When we first moved to the area I was a little worried because I didn't recognize any of the grocery store names. I will admit, I didn't try this one at first because of the shopping center it's in and the surrounding stores in the center. But as I started to realize that I pass it literally 4 times a day or more, I caved and gave it a try. Compared to one of the competitors I will say the prices here are reasonable. We're not talking Aldi cheap but for the things I can't get there, I am willing to pay a little more. For the most part, they have everything I need and in good quantity. I will say I have on two occasions been disappointed that they did not have items in stock. Both items were either a freebie or had an ecoupon and I didn't run right in when I got the promotion. So I guess I shouldn't be surprised. But outside of that I've loved random $5 off $5 ecoupons and a few random freebies I've been able to take advantage of. I think the only huge disappointment (most people won't even deal with this) is the bathroom. I know it's not an area that they really care about, but it does still reflect on management for the way it is kept. I don't honestly even know if it's dirty or not because I can't get past the paint on the stahls. It's like someone put paint thinner on it and just walked away. It just doesn't set well with me. read more

WATERMELON SEARCH!!!. I had to go on a mini hunt for seeded watermelons. I finally found a huge one at Safeway. It is sweet, huge however a bit pricey ( 7.99). The store is clean and well stocked. I didn't require service however attendants were easy to locate. I've never had an issue at this location. read more

Awhile back Safeway had a $1 sale on produce which was not bad. I managed to snag up some baby carrots, cucumbers, bag of salad and spinach. I didn't find the onions, and decided on the Red Delicious Apples. I always like to browse, and then end looking at the discounted clearance items. I didn't find anything worthwhile. Then I went to my favorite section, the bakery. Their bake goods are a little expensive than other local grocery stores. But hubby did get me the lemon cupcakes ($5 for 4). Check out was quick and I was out within 10 min. read more

High priced even with the membership, it's my 2nd time here where one of the cashiers never even took the time to greet customers, im speaking specifically about one named Matthew. A simple hello, thank you for shopping makes all the difference especially when you spend $100 for 2-3 bags of nothing. The lack of customer service has been why I go to self checkout. I love the curbside service. The young lady that usually brings my order is always sweet and personable. I get my food fast and it is always fresh. I'm a member so I get discounts and rewards. I've saved alot of money each time I shop here. Being a disabled person it's great to be able to shop online and not have to struggle walking through the store. I'm giving this store a five star rating ONLY because of Terrence, who is the best cashier. He is very friendly, always positive, interacts well with customers, and makes you feel appreciated. I am a weekly shopper (who spends quite a bit on groceries) and will always seek out Terrence to check out my items. Don't get me wrong, this store does have its problems (personnel attitudes, questionable management, too many worker bees with no guidance, etc.) but at least I have a pleasant experience when checking out. Also, a shout out to Andre who works at the seafood counter. He too is a great asset and provides excellent customer service. read more

It was clean, well organized, and keeping up with the trends of modern supermarkets. I've only been there later in the evening, but I can imagine it gets very busy during the day. Today after standing in line for 5 minutes, a cashier opened a register and took customers that just walked up not the next customer in that line. Sadly, I have to agree with the one star reviews below. Poorly managed- well, yes. How hard can it be to make sure that there are actual shopping baskets at the entrance? Apparently, it is horribly difficult since they manage it about once in 10 shopping trips (and that includes less busy times, like Monday afternoons). Totally agree regarding the long checkout lines. Had to return "live" mussels from the seafood department some of which were about as live as Monty Python's dead parrot... Well, not much has changed in 4 years since my last review. I still occasionally have to come here for an item or 2 while I'm in the area. Last night, I decided to actually go grocery shopping here. Aside from not being able to find an item that should have been in stock, all went well -- until the checkout. Just read all the negative reviews about this Safeway (and honestly, most Safeways.. Heck, most stores. They are cutting out clerk positions and making you scan your own items.) I had a cart full of groceries. There was 1 check-out open - an Express '15 item or less' lane. Being the rule-follower, I wasn't going to be "that guy" who brings a cart full of groceries to that lane. So, I go to self-checkout. I have to go get a 2nd cart since my cart full of groceries needs to be scanned and then actually go somewhere... That would have been OK, expect the self-checkout machines scream at you and prevent you from continuing when you remove items from the bagging area. So, every bag I generated, I had to have the Safeway attendant scan his badge to allow me to continue (or I waited 5 seconds until the screen cleared itself). About half way through, the guy from the aforementioned Express lane was walking by to clock out, and asked why I didn't just go to the Express Lane. He offered to go ring me up -- but my items were split 1/2 scanned and 1/2 to be scanned -- I didn't know what I was supposed to do - so I just continued. The attendant made some snarky remark (that was probably not meant to be malicious at all), but I made it clear I wasn't enjoying the "challenge" of this experience. He disappeared, and then it seemed like a manager came over to relieve him. I was 3/4 of the way finished at this point, and the Manager asked if I wanted him to finish it. Again, I'm confused as to how that helps since I'm almost finished - it just seemed more complicated to go to a lane to finish with stuff in 2 carts and 1/2 paid for. Eventually, he explained I can always just go to an Express Lane if you have a cart full - you don't have to do it yourself. That's good to know and I'll definitely do that if there's ever a next time. I would have appreciated that information from the self-checkout attendant who swiped his badge 10 times to let me continue scanning $300 worth of items all by myself. It comes down to Manage and training/coaching (like I said in my previous review). The Manager actually had a decent idea and seemed to know how to handle a troubling situation (though he could have been a little more clear on his suggestion). But really, that self-checkout attendant should have recognized the situation and suggested I go to the Express Lane - even though I had 20x the 15-item limit. read more

Just had to add my 2 cents. I went in several months ago to buy some lottery tickets. Two clerks at customer service, one eating and the other talking to her. I was the only customer. The only thing I got from customer service was dirty looks. Gave up and went across the street to Shoppers. Haven't been back since. Save time and go elsewhere. read more

I've been to this Starbucks a few times. I usually go on the morning before heading to work. The lady at the register is very friendly. Also, she makes my latte very well. However, I'm only giving 3 stars because of the wait. If you are in a hurry, don't bother. You will be staying put for a while until your drink is done. read more

I visited this store yesterday for the first time with my son who regularly shops there. The store was very nicely arranged and clean. We were getting lunchmeat, cheeses, salads and bread to make our own subs. Not only was the food fresh and delicious but the Deli clerk, Dan, provided exceptional service, offering a sample of a salad I ended up buying. We were looking for another item and did not where to find it, Dan took us directly to it. I would highly recommend this store, especially the Deli. read more

I've been living in the area a little over two years, the place has gone downhill fast. Managed horribly, staff members aren't exactly rude but they aren't friendly either, and don't get me started on register lines. Just the other day I walked in because I needed something quick, 10 people in line and one register open (I turned around and walked out), in the middle of the day! Needless to say I avoid this store unless I absolutely need something because it's pretty terrible. Bit of a mixed review. This store has good and bad. It is woefully understaffed at the registers. At most you will get two registers open at a time. I have never seen more than that open at a time. The guy who works the seafood counter most days is friendly and knowledgeable. They generally have good prices one seafood and meats. I go there for my steaks generally. Their selection of seafood is pretty limited though. Usually the same three fish all the time. read more

I like most of the people at this store and have been coming here for abou 30 years. But the store changes managers so often if you have a problem you have no relationship with the manager and you do not know who to go to. Ms. Francis was the managed and recognized you as a shopper and would help you. Do miss her. Also as mentioned many times before the bakery needs a lot of help. All Safeways are different in the bakery Nottingham has a wonderful bakery. Bagels are large not the case at Waltham Woods and bakery is laid out nicely. read more

How hard is it to predict a monthly refill? This pharmacy never has the prescriptions, there is always one delay after another, the meds don't come in when they say they will be in. Go anywhere else but here, it's a fist fight every time. Plus the pharmacists misinterpret the law, making fills even more challenging. read more

Had nats in there bagel case in the bakery.also the workers at the deli counter are snappy. Act like you're bothering them when you ask them something. If you ask for meat they get pissy if don't tell them the specific kind. Bought a dunkin donuts creamer, took it home and found out it was already opened and was bad. Do not go late at night because they only have one cashier on duty. You better hope someone isn't doing there weekly shopping abd checking out the same time as you cause it's a long wait. The Starbucks closes early some nights, between an hour to half an hour early. Everything seems to have gone down hill since they've gotten a new store manager. In my opinion he's a little to young to be running the store. read more

Never enough checkout lines running at any time of the day or week. You wait wait wait--don't come here if you're in any kind of a hurry. If you try to use the service desk for, say, WesternUnion, they act like you're causing a huge bother. I will drive further away rather than go here. Also they have some kind of anti- theft device that randomly locked my cart IN the doorway after I checked out. I must have looked annoyed because the worker snapped "don't get angry!" If you are going to have a western union advertised you should have it available for your customers until western union closes not 20-30 minutes before it closes that is just bad business practice and saying that it is down before 9 when western union closes everywhere is just...and then you send the poor saps that come in expecting to be able to utilize this service to another store and mislead them on the hours of operation for their western union counter. read more

If I could rate this place negative stars I would. This is the worst grocery store ever. I would rather shop at Aldi's and eat their pesticide-laden half-rotten produce and horse-flavored meatballs than shop at this Safeway. At Safeway, you can plan to spend at least 20 minutes to 60 minutes standing in line. It doesn't matter what line you are in, what the person in front of me has in their basket or already on the belt, or who the checker is-- you should bring your Bible so you're ready for the Second Coming. Because it really feels like Jesus will be here before you get to leave with your groceries. Don't come here if you'd like to leave before you die. Why are the checkers so slow? Do they pass a negative speed test before being hired? This grocery store is closest to my house, sometimes I feel like it is the devil tempting me-- "just one item, one little item, it surely is faster than driving to that other grocery store".... then when I arrive it seems nice and clean, and there doesn't appear to be anyone in line at all. Deception!!! There are people in line... but only ONE person in rach line.... AND they will STILL be there when I check out! In addition to their slowness (are they getting an award for taking the longest time possible? When I was a checker, we got awards for being fast...), the checkers are completely incompetent. Ask for cash back. "You do that on the machine yourself." Go through the entire process--- NEVER see a cash back screen--- "I wanted cash back and it never asked me to put in cash back"----"You can use our ATM for that." WTF!!!! I wanted cash back because I don't want to use the ATM!!! You said it would ask me for cash back!! WTH!!!! Standing in line at Safeway is hell. I have written this entire review as I wait to purchase ONE item... in the "15 items or less" line! Yelp sats it is longer than most other reviews.... this is the kind of time you have as you wait to purchase your can of soup. I could have raised and killed a chicken, cooked it, grown vegetables, and made the soup myself in the time it has taken for me to come to the front of the line!!! read more

Horrible customer service at check-out. They couldn't be more unfriendly or any slower. I only shop here for small orders but mostly to go to Starbucks. I don't think Justin understands how to smile, greet people, or move. Large orders have been impossible. Service has been horrible for years which why I usually go to a Giant or Wegman's. It's worth the drive. Sad too. Produce, seafood, and pharmacy do have good people working there but if you can't get out the door before things defrost it's not worth the time. It would be nice to have a genuine, pleasant greeting, faster pace at check out, and managers who understand how to mange front of house. read more

Also love the fact Safeway is open until midnight sometimes iWork late and majority markets are closed..this being said $5 Friday's is awesome ! & the bakery is always fresh. I love the self checkout! I don't want to talk to anyone and I am able to pack my own groceries in my reusable bag and I can sort how I'd like things to be packed. There are only 4 self checkout counters, so you may have to wait. I recommend getting a Starbucks coffee for your trip before heading to self checkout line in case you do have to wait. read more

There are never hand baskets available! I always have to start off by walking past the checkout lanes hunting for a basket, and that hasn't changed in the 3 years I've been going here. For a while they had nice double-decker carts but I rarely see them anymore. Besides this, the prices and selection is comparable to other large grocery store chains. Everything you read is true, this is the third level of Hell. It's clean, has good product, and the Pharmacy is Great. But plan to spend at least 20 minutes in line and don't even try Customer Service. There doesn't appear to be any pride in anyone that works here. read more

1.) They often neglect to remove old sales price stickers, and then will not honor the tagged (advertised) pricing because it's expired. They expect customers to read the fine print when the fact is the employees should keep things tagged properly. Their prices are already higher than Shoppers, Giant and Walmart on items I typically buy. 2.) The lines are always crazy long. It could be 6:00 on a weeknight with people flooding in from the beltway to pick up last minute items for dinner, and there are only 2 lanes open. You have to wait in line 15 minutes to pick up an onion. Are there not enough cashiers? 3.) The last time I was there, I wanted to buy a package of figs for a salad I was making. The only package there was covered in so much mold the figs were unrecognizable. I also noticed moldy oranges, tomatoes and strawberries and ended up leaving disappointed and determined to never shop there again. It's really a shame because it's a pretty store, with large aisles and certain specialty products not found at Mars or Shoppers (the other two grocery stores in the area). And they have a Starbucks. I just ca't overlook moldy produce and I have better ways to spend my time than waiting in line. read more
