I've always gone to this Safeway with low expectations as they do not have a lot of offerings and NEVER order from the disgusting deli. However my last trip left me feeling like I was on a hidden camera show. My first stop, the meat aisle, the butcher watched me step in a puddle on the floor and get the whole bottom of my dress wet. He didnt say a word or move to clean it up. I cant even begin to wonder what it was. So onward with my wet dress the place is PACKED with only two lanes open. I was 8th in line and no call for more cashiers. I find myself in Kay's line, I wait for the person ahead of me to grab their bagged groceries before I proceed to load my groceries when Kay puts up a hand and tells me to wait as she cleans the conveyor belt.....ok I get it and appreciate it BUT she could have done that while the previous customer was having her groceries bagged or was digging in her purse for her wallet. Then she tried to get crazy with me and say she was a mother just trying to keep her kids safe! What is the point of cleaning a quarter of the conveyor when your touching all the grocery items between customers and not cleaning the atm pin pad? I appreciate essential workers, as I am a mother and essential worker but I dont use it as a excuse to be a jerk read more

Lines are ridiculously slow. The customer service is average. Dont expect to be in and out in less than 30 min. The only good thing about this grocery store is the deli employee's. read more

This store has the most arrogant clerks in the county, and plays games with customers' credit cards that caused BofA to cancel my card and Fedex me a new one overnight. And if you object to having the clerks mess with your credit cards without authorization, don't bother reporting it to the local police- they don't care. They think you're a vagrant. No telling what "additional advantages" the manager is giving the cops. I am a local and do not shop in any Safeway in Monterey County, but this one is the worst. The Yelp reviews of this hole have been purged repeatedly, but we will continue making the state of this store and the rest of Pacific Grove clear. read more

I too, have had bad experiences at this store. I sent the attached letter to the corporate office after picking up a flyer at the checkout that said "We want to hear from you." I would encourage other shoppers to do to the same. I just mailed it this week, so we'll see if anything becomes of it. Stay tuned! Today I shopped at the Safeway store in Pacific Grove, California (Store #0761) and left very dissatisfied. During my visit, (10:30 am) I encountered obstructions in three different aisles while trying to shop. Large empty green totes (aisle 5 and bakery) and boxes of flattened cardboard (aisle 4) prevented me from moving my large basket freely down the aisle. In all three instances, no employee was present and I had difficulties reaching for products and negotiating my cart through the aisle. These obstructions were simply left behind instead of being cleared after restocking. When checking out, I found a single (one) line open by a stressed checker, Melissa, with three people in front of me and at least three more behind me. Melissa called for help twice during my time in line (at least five minutes) and no one came to assist her. I could see that she was stressed about being the only checker, but was cordial and pleasant to customers, trying to do the best she could. I have been a loyal Safeway shopper for many years, but after today's experience, I have no compelling reason to shop there again. There are plenty of other choices in town that will happily take my business. It is obvious that this store is severely understaffed and the staff available is stressed by not getting support they need to work as a team. I would suggest that you look into this matter and find some resolution so that customers like me can continue to shop in a pleasant, well staffed, well stocked store. read more

Unfortunately........ the deli dept is SO S L O W and I blame managment for this, they are aware of this awful set back and know that many customers have left that store dissapointed (as you can read in previous comments). I will say the older lady that works there can be a doll, but there are days that she is a VooDoo Doll! I keep going back because I love the sandwichs, but now I call my orders in.....ugh! read more

This complaint is specifically about the pharmacy. I'm giving it one star because of the seriousness of what happened. I went to the pharmacy to have a prescription filled for my son who has a peanut allergy, the prescription was for an EpiPen. I was told flat out by the woman in the pharmacy that my insurance does not cover the EpiPen. So I left without the medication and had to contact the insurance company as well as my child's doctor, and I did find out that my insurance does in fact cover the EpiPen. I went back to the pharmacy and explained what happened two other women that work in there, I believe that both of them are pharmacists. Basically what happened is the woman who told me that my insurance does not cover the EpiPen, either didn't know how to bill it correctly to my insurance or just didn't want to deal with it. So because of that, because of her laziness or incompetence, I was not able to get the life-saving medication that my 10-year-old son needs. I'm complaining to the store manager today, but this is something that I think anyone going in there to use their pharmacy needs to be aware of. Luckily my son did not have any anaphylactic shock episodes, but if he would have, I would not of had the medication. read more

Worst of the worst. Their remodel took out good parking and put in a soup?coffee? bar no one ever seems to use. Only 1/2 mile from home and I avoid it like the plague. They may have remodeled and put in SOME new display areas, but the produce section that holds lettuce, carrots, etc. is deteriorating and disgusting. It seems that way too much space is devoted to fast/deli food and not enough to shelf space. Avoid this store if you can -- it needs to be toally demolished and rebuilt; no mere remodel will get rid of the grubby feeling that permeates the store. read more

Management doesn't give a. Flying Rip, and it shows in their hiring quals for cashiers: 1) be bored or absent, especially when the lines are long; 2) be as dumb as a rock and twice as slow. This is the worst Safeway EVER!!! Their selection is horrible because it is so small and their check out lines are ALWAYS backed up. If they are going to operate a small Safeway like this, they could at least make something outstanding...like customer service! This store has zero quality control and sells items past their expiration date. They still tried to sell eggs on their expiration date which is questionable in my opinion. The worst was the Hormel mashed potatoes I forgot to check the dates on before I put them in the cart and one was over a month past the expiration date and the second container had a rancid smell as well even though it wasn't expired leading me to believe it had not been refrigerated properly. I would never shop here again! read more

At our local unsafeway, I've never been all that impressed by their selection. Even with a remodel, and glitz with glam. I've heard a few stories of my local Pagrovians buying expired food items off the shelves and getting sick later. Stepping into the store totally brings the vibe of screw you, we don't care. Fine. The meat department are great Vince and Kirk are very helpful and polite. Good prices to compared to other local Markets.

I hate this Safeway! They are rude and very unhelpful. I'll not be going here again accept to get Starbucks. One checker to completely avoid is a tall gray/blond lady that always has the look on her face that she just ate a pile of dog poop with an attitude that matches. Forget about using any kind of coupons. (no, not an extreme couponer either) The deli service is completely slow and unhelpful. You ask them to make a sandwich and you'd think you asked them to build you a house on the spot. If you don't like working the deli, get a different job. Union workers - slow, entitled and not worth the money - ugh! Go to Savemart down the street for sure. read more

I like them; not too big. Pretty quick in and out; except sometimes. 7 in line at deli couple nights ago, dinner time. Only one worker doing sandwiches. Manager stopped by but didn't do anything. Another time, recently, two workers at deli, nobody else waiting but me and neither one of them would acknowledge me. I finally asked if they were open. Only then did I get waited on. I use them for quicky shopping. Cashiers nice enough; meat guy pleasant. Good for flu shots every year. Using new Quest lab there. read more

I don't mind bagging my own food, (not enough workers or the cashier doesn't want to), fruit in packages tends to (either) be partially spoiled or will spoil within one day and I suspect bagged fruits (such as oranges) are those taken off the individual sales counter and bagged so you can't see the spoilage. The disabled parking is used by those without disabled plates, mirror indicators of being disabled and more often than not, people park in front of the store to wait on shoppers... dangerously blocking the entry and forcing you to swerve around them. But today may end my "convenient" shopping here (I live in the immediate neighborhood). Due to the shopping for Father's Day (tomorrow) I waited in our car so my wife and daughter could shop for their "surprise" dinner. My wife came out visually upset... and this is something very rare for her. I have shopped at the lane where the tall, older (streaked hair) woman works and have witnessed firsthand her apparent "unhappiness". I have had a young man (who worked there) step out of the 15 item lane to "dress me down" for having more than 15 items (it is very hard to see the sign amongst all the other signs), or I would have gone to the NON EXISTANT more than 15 items line... two 15 or less lines were open and no over 15 item lanes were open. But, today my wife was treated very disrespectfully for something one could only describe as quite discriminatory. My wife is a language professor, three degrees and three languages. She has dual citizenship (US and a South American Country)... yet, when she spoke Spanish to our daughter (our 11 year old daughter also speaks 3 languages), the usual air of "cold-kindness" went completely cold. No further words were discussed... eventough she spoke to others in line about buying for a special Fathers Day dinner. To say the least, she became quite cold, stopped talking and hurriedly pushed my wife out... at least the young man asked my wife if he could help her out. Again, I have witnessed the "unhappiness" of this woman and this is someone who should not be in such a customer service position. If speaking Spanish (she could have easily spoken French) and did the transaction in English, but Spanish triggered an air of total disrespect. We shop here out of convenience, even if the prices are high, the produce is hours away from rotting and quite a few of the cashiers are very rude. NO MORE. I haven't seen the manager, a very nice man from Wasco, CA or I would have mentioned this to him... he truly cares and will work any position to assist those who make this store possible; the paying public. read more
