This Safeway in Pacific Grove is such a great little neighborhood store. Every time I stop in, it's clean, well organized, and fully stocked, which honestly makes grocery shopping so much easier. The aisles are easy to navigate, and I can usually find everything I need without having to hunt around. The produce and floral sections are always fresh, and the store overall feels welcoming and well cared for. Staff have also been friendly and helpful when I've needed assistance. It's just a solid, reliable Safeway and a convenient stop when you're in Pacific Grove. Definitely one of the nicer locations I've visited. Especially if you are from the Central Valley. read more

Clean and well lit grocery store. Friendly staff and good variety of food and other grocery items. Smaller location but really fit the aesthetic and neighborhood. Parking lot was smaller too. One electric car plug is located at the backside. Possibly two but one looked out of order. Great place to stock up on treats! read more

Once again this place is the worst. $10.50 on sushi that is literally inedible. And I bet they wouldn't do a thing if I returned it. I really don't appreciate this. Service is beyond terrible. Nobody is friendly. Last time a thief almost ran over a little old lady running out with his goods. 2 employees witnessed it. Didn't do a thing for the lady, just waved bye to the thief and yelled "see ya next time!" (Ok not really but they might as well have) However they have no problem being rude to the paying customers. The entire store reminds me of that movie Idiocracy. If you haven't seen it you should. You'll get it. Meanwhile please please let this store get bought out by a company who cares. Cuz as it is this PLACE SUCKS! Minus 5 stars! Go to Lucky 6 min away!! read more

The Brussel Sprouts were all worm eaten on the inside. Also, they are out of the certain yogurts and the frozen fruit 3 out of every 4 trips. When they do have them, by buying 3-4 yogurts and 1-2 packages I buy all of the product. Today , I didn't qualify for the 10 yogurt discount because of course there was only a couple. I asked for it anyways, and the checker refused but mentioned we probably have more in the back. I was thinking how many products do they have stock in the back that they never refill? Unacceptable. This is frustrating since there are only 2 Safeways in the town. Lack of competition allows this store to get away with mediocrity. read more

The deli workers were rude and unapologetic. We ordered a few sandwiches and at first they said they never received the order. They ran out of bread, chicken salad, and told us to pick it up at the back of the store! Sketchy. Tasted horrible and was not even cut. Took about 40 minutes to get two sandwiches and warm water. Yuck. read more

My boyfriend and I went in for some groceries, he grabbed beer. I left my wallet in the car considering I only use Apple Pay. Cashier said he couldn't sell us the beer since I didn't have my ID, but this wasn't the issue I had. I understand that. He proceeded to SCOLD us and say "mhm 10,000 dollar fine and if I was the owner of this business I'd go to prison.", in a rude tone. Once again, we didn't argue or have an issue with him not selling it to us. It was his tone and scolding us, that's crazy. Shop here if you enjoy being talked to like a child. read more

Food poisoning from pork shoulder in manager's deals, was dated 826. I boiled it for 15 minutes, then air fried it for 16 minutes at 390 degrees. That is the only thing I ate 7 hours later. I woke up and got violently sick about five times. Today is 827, so I bought it last day. read more

Christmas Day 2025, Safeway opened after a gigantic storm. Much of the power was out last night. Today after 12 noon, Safeway was well stocked (for what I needed) and beautifully run on a very short staff. The Santa at check out told me that the employees that were there volunteered to get the store up and running. They handled the volume of customers efficiently as well. Thanks to everyone there! read more

Such a rude lady at cashier counter. She didn't respond to my hello. That's fine. Then while billing, she carelessly tossed my egg tray over. I checked and saw she broke one egg. I pointed it and then she couldn't see it. Of course I checked the eggs before picking them. I pointed hard and then she saw the cracked egg and asked her helper to get a fresh one. Helper was dropping most of the stuff while packing. So glad o don't happen to live in this neighborhood. Pity to those who have to tolerate this. Not sure whether she is rude to everyone or just being racist with me. Tons of 2 star reviews speak volumes about the place. However, another south Asian cashier was really sweet and helped me with the restroom directions. read more

Safeway - Grocery Near Me - Pacific Grove, California

Wow, if I could give this store a zero, l would. Talk about old and dirty. This store was probably built in the 70's and it looks it. The aisles are narrow and cluttered, the baskets are tiny, the store is dimly lit and the selection of goods is so limited. And the prices are 3x as high as they are in almost every other state. Then you go to check out and the staff is rude and they don't supply you with bags, because they are bad. But they will sell you all you need. What a joke. It has probably been 30 years since I have shopped in a Safeway, and I know why. No wonder they went out of business in my state. If anyone thinks this is a good supermarket, they need to get out of this city more. It is so regressive. It isn't old and quaint. It is old and dilapidated. Corporate needs to spend some money on a remodel. read more

I can always find what I need here. Great selection of cheese, meats and crackers to go with a bottle of wine. I visit Carmel 4-5 times a year. I love all the workers there ...but that older, tall , red headed cashier has anger issues . He has no patience , I have seen him be so rude to costumers . This one time he was so mean to this old guy because he was having trouble tapping his card ...he was about to explode . Another time I was bagging my groceries (I could tell he was mad) so he proceeded to toss my groceries so hard down to me that my cans were bent around the edges and when i got home my fruit in the plastic bowls had cracked open and was all over everything in the bag . That dudes an Asshole . I am shocked he still works there. He needs to go ! read more

I came in here to get some items for our picnic lunch. Terrible! Lines were beyond long and they did not open up more lanes. This woman cashier rang up something that ended up not matching the promo price. Instead of apologizing, she asked me what I owed her. Who does that?! You should refund and re-ring it at the correct price. Not just be lazy and just take the difference out. She actually just asked other cashiers to get me the change. Instead of being treated with dignity and respect, she made it like it was an inconvienience. This is the worst Safeway cashier and Safeway I have ever been to! In Sacramento Natomas Safeway they say "Thank you (insert your name)!" that they got off your Club Card. This Pacific Grove Safeway is not even in a ghetto area but the customer service is worse than in any area! Shithole trash Safeway. Do not go to this one. Every Safeway is better than this one! read more

Just walked out of the Pacific Grove Safeway. No stock on several sale items listed in ad. I always regret walking in this dump anyhow seeing as how much of staff is unknowledgeable, lazy, rude and there are very long lines every time it seems. I will head down to Andronicos to deal with much better service and stock...and pay a few cents more. read more

All Safeway's have started using digital coupons, has member sales and regular sales. There were 5 people standing inline and of the 5 people were upset including me because we bought based on sales and found out we had to download digital coupons to get the sale price. Not only did it hold up the line but we all left upset. Stop making things more difficult than it has to be. Just give us the sale price and stop with the gimmicks of luring people in the store for the sale then making us download the stupid digital coupons. read more

Megan, cashier at this Safeway has been amazing. She ensures you get checked out quickly so you don't need to spend any extra amount of time in public while social distancing. She's courteous, helpful and this is not just a compliment because I'm Safe-at-Home Month 4 now and lack of socialization at this point ha! Leaving this review also for the store itself. With their modified hours, to ensure shelves are restocked and touch areas are cleaned properly. This location has been my lifeline for all my household needs. Thank You Safeway for keeping your doors open, shelves stocked and areas clean for the community. I wanted to clarify to some of the reviews that say that the staff was not wearing masks. They were not wearing them when there was no mandate to do so and no guidelines were issued. When the mandate was issued, I've seen the staff complying immediately. read more

Safeway - No lines, clean parking lot. Our savior during these times. - Grocery Near Me - Pacific Grove, California

Came here for a sandwich. First the pre-made boars head sandwich section was completely empty, and I mean not even 1 product to buy. So I went to the actual deli counter. A female employee made my sandwich (I'm guessing morning-mid shift) I'm a New Yorker so sandwiches are my favorite...They barely had anything on the menu, not the cheese I wanted, not the Turkey I wanted not even vinegar. So I ducked it up and just paid for a basic cheese and Turkey sandwich. I'm already more than halfway done with my sandwich and I found a long piece of hair in my meal. I can't eat it anymore! I've also worked in the food service industry for 10+ years and as a food establishment quality assurance inspector. The servers need to wear hairnets that cover the entire head. If I could give 0 stars I would. read more

A great supermarket. Plenty of parking. Clean and functioning carts. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The produce is fresh and the shelves are well stocked. I feel a few times a year at my whits end with having yet another disturbing, disheartening, or otherwise very poor experience at this store. Over time, I have watched as well as listened to staff and customers regarding my same and some new impressions and concerns. My last straw, not so simple. I have to continue shopping here. They are the only store open late, I care for elderly near by. I do not want to have to go anywhere else. I just hope for the store to improve. I do not know if it is indeed the manager as many say, I do not have experience managing a grocery store. i am sure it is very difficult. I do know in my own experience the woman manager I have had run ins with scares me, I feel she comes across rude and seems to not see the stores patrons as "customers" in a way I wish to be treated. My current issue with this store is the placement of liquor in the most child visited section on the produce section. Not that I want to see Liquor or anything related in this section ever. I feel the impression on a child to think about the packaging being so related to their school snacks is Ludicrous. Dawn M.-Business Manager at Albertsons, I hope you respond to my review. read more

Incompetent and rude staff. I came in for lunch and went to the lunch counter. I asked how many wings come in the "assorted combo" I was told none. I asked the wing combos comes with no wings? The reply was yes, it comes with tenders. I repeated the wing combo doesn't come with wings? In the most rude and entitled voice said, "You asked for the tenders". I said no, I asked about how many wings came in the "wing and tender combo". All I got was unprofessional service, a rude tone, and a ton of attitude. After I said I'm not buying anything here after that, the employee laughed at me. This level of entitlement from someone who serves precooked chicken is startling. The staff here severely need to be retrained by management. I will be contacting corporate and the site management about this inappropriate employee. read more

This location is CONSISTENTLY understaffed. They're either too lazy to hire people or corporate is too cheap, likely the latter. There is always only 1-2 lanes open and the lines are always long. I am leaving a five star review based on the employees only. If I had to leave a review based on the physical condition of our local Safeway store I don't know if I could give it a whole one star. A couple years ago they made a big deal about kicking the front of the building out 15 feet and we all thought hey at last were getting an improved Safeway but no; they built yet another Starbucks. I find the people at the pharmacy to be especially helpful. My favorite cashier of course is Andy but I'm sure everybody says that. I wish Safeway would invest some money in our community and give us a decent place to shop especially when Trader Joe's is it just two doors down the street. We also have a Luckys a half mile away. Not to mention a Andronicos a half mile the other way. I honestly shop at Luckys and Grove Market just as much as Safeway but Safeway has the pharmacy. read more

Very glad to see the remodel finished. It is such a need improvement. The produce section is way bigger and better than before. The coffee shop is a nice addition as well. As far as Safeways go this is a very small store. I've shopped here a couple of times before and my visit today solidified its place on my "Yay! I'm a fan" list of grocery stores. The tight aisles and somewhat cramped feeling inside is made up for by super polite staff from courtesy clerks to checkers and meat or produce specialists. This morning the inside store Starbucks sported a long line but the two persons running the stand worked the line steadily. Demographics run along the same you find at the Rio Road Safeway in Carmel or the Safeway in Carmel Valley. Unlike the Safeway in Del Rey this market has very clean and inviting tables in front of the store. Unlike the Crossroads (Rio Road) store this one has a pharmacy. What's great about this store is there's a Trader Joe's next door so if one lacks a product for a particular recipe the other is likely to have it. Pacific Grove and PB residents are somewhat blessed with such shopping options. read more

The usual Safeway products with the usual Safeway lack of front end service (i.e. one cashier working and a line running so long that your milk might curdle before you get out of there -- and the cashiers are usually weird).
