Placed an order through their drive up and go system. Waited until I got the text stating that the order was ready. Drove down and indicated that I had arrived. Almost immediately I got a text stating that my items had been delivered to my car and that the order was completed. I still had not received my items. I called the number on the order and was told that she was shopping someone else's order but she would bring mine down later. I called customer service who transferred me to the supervisor of the service it rang quite a while. It was answered,a button was pushed and I was sent to voice mail. I called back customer service and was told that my order had been brought down. It had not. Another car had received theirs but I hadn't. Called customer service four times before someone answered. Was asked if I wanted my order, during this I received an e-mail stating that I had received a credit for my order. They finally brought my order down 27 minutes after I received the e-mail stating that I had received my food. The charge and credit for my food both left my pending transactions the next day. I was not happy about the service but was pleased that they gave me a credit to make up for the bad service. Today, one week later they charged me again. There are plenty of other Safeways and other grocery stores. Safeway Millbrae isn't worth going to anymore. Too bad, it used to be my favorite. read more

2.5 stars This Safeway and the Menlo Park location (also on El Camino) are the biggest of the chain's supermarkets that I have been to. Obviously, the bigger the store, the more inventory and wider variety of items they offer to sell. For this reason, I used to drive the extra miles from my house to grocery shop at this locale. PROs: This two-story market provides patrons with a covered parking lot and quickly finding a spot is rarely a problem. In the few cases that the garage is full, there are plenty of more spaces to park your vehicle in the uncovered lot as well as the street. I would say that the best attribute about this Safeway is that they sell more international products than you would typically find at standard-sized grocery stores. I have seen them sell mochi ice cream, lumpia, siu mai, lavash, and even century eggs. CONs: Aside from one awesome lady manager (short, white hair), the customer service is pretty HORRIBLE. They are so bad that I even wrote to the corporate office to file a formal complaint - Cashier Andrea rudely threw my purchased items into my bags (which included glass bottles of spices), then put my two cartons of 18 ct. eggs atop the tossed small food items. I told her that I did not want my eggs placed on top of such an unstable surface, so she took out the cartons of eggs and left them for me to bag myself (On another occasion, a different cashier had the audacity to tell me that I could help her bag!). Additionally, when I pointed out that my cream cheese sale prices were not correctly reflected in my receipt, Andrea instructed me to go back to the cream cheese aisle and speak to the inventory person there, leaving me to resolve the issue on my own. I asked to speak to a manager and after two pages, Gabi came running, catching her breath. When I told her about Andrea's behaviour and about my cream cheese sales issue, she told me that I had to return to the store the next day because she was off the clock. She then said that she had to leave and when I informed her that I was going to contact Corporate Services, she exclaimed, "You can tell them that I was off the clock!" and ran off. Where do they find these people who have no reverence to customers' concerns?? Additionally, it NEVER fails that every time I shop here, I am overcharged for at least one or two items. They just can't seem to keep their systems updated with correct prices. Pretty frustrating. Needless to say, I no longer go out of my way to shop at this location. So disappointed. Went on a $5 Friday sushi with free Smartwater. I picked 5 orders of sushi and asked the sushi lady chef where the Smartwater was. She said to ask customer service. I thought it was weird, but I went to customer service after I finished my grocery shopping and checking the water aisle. OMG, six people in line. Who knows how long I had to wait, for wanting to purchase? So, I asked my hubbie to wait in line while I went to self check to ask the cashier. She was so helpful. She tried to call deli with no avail. She then went there. One of the sushi chefs even followed her back. The cashier said if there is no water in the water aisle, then there is none. She then asked another Safeway employee, none. I asked if rainchecks were given, none. I then went to customer to return my sushi. Really, please have a sign, "sorry, no water". Often, sale or free items are out of stock or "we haven't received any stock". Meat Department is poorly run. Many items are not stocked even though a space in the refrigerator with a sign is prepared. Have to go to Meat counter to ask for them. Yet, the department is understaffed which causes a long wait. Not one because Bakery Department is well managed and staffed. Self checkout stands are also well managed. Somewhere dirty near the main entrance. Caused by homeless? But I was there last night around 6 pm (Thursday, October 4th). The Asian woman working at the self check-out area was way too busy to talk to her friend (it was a very lengthy conversation they were having), and could not be bothered to be doing her job. In this tough time, I understand and appreciate to even see that people actually reporting to work. But when at work, you should do better. Be blessed to have a job and you can do better. read more

There is a decent amount of parking here. The Safeway itself is located on the second floor so you can either walk, take escalators, or take a freight elevator up. Note: they do not have carts on the second floor so you'll have to grab one before you head up. The Safeway is decently sized and I was able to find everything I needed pretty easily. The lines weren't long when I came by so I only had to wait about 5 minutes or so to get checked out. When I was done with my shopping trip, I waited for the elevator to go back down which actually took quite some time. However, the elevators are nicely designed so that you always enter one way and exit through the opposite doors. This avoids anyone from having to turn their cart around or walk backwards when they have to get out - pretty smart. read more

One of the rudest and unprofessional employee ive ever seen, she was giving the lady an attitude and refuses to help her out because according to her shes at the 15 items or less lane and she has more than 15 items when the store was not even busy and there was only 2 people in her line , the lady in fron of her and me , the only time she helped the customer was after i told her why cant she help her when theres no on in line and its not even busy , then she helped her out but that is after she gave me an attitude by rolling her eyes on me .... I've been shopping at Safeway for a good 20 years and I've never had an issue with racial profiling and discrimination until this location tonight. Treated me like a criminal and thought I was trying to scam the store asking for a exchange or refund on a defective item. Safeway is growing on me! I think in the last year, they have slightly up their customer service? Oh, they also stopped calling my last name saying "Thank you Mr.....R....." while they hand me my receipt! And another thing, I started playing their Monopoly! This location is quite spacious with huge parking both out the lot as well as indoor. The whole store is located on the second floor. You will need to use the "cart" escalator for your cart. There is an elevator on the South side entrance, if you prefer the old fashion way! Ha!! :p And depending on where you want to start, the escalator side has wine, soups and sandwiches while their elevator side starts at their produce! Their meat and fish dept including their RX are all located towards the back. Their frozen section including their ice cream is slightly off center closest to the wine aisle. You will also notice the aisles are clearly marked, so you can quickly find things that you need!! While I do most of my grocery shopping through my local grocer because I prefer to walk and support local businesses, and the other plus to shopping locally, I get to walk with my dogs. Lately however, I found myself shopping at this Safeway for two reasons: (1) they're open 24 hours and (2) their prices are generally lower than Mom and Pops. Perhaps if Safeway bumps up their customer service a few notches higher, I may shop here more often which will also give me a good reason, to stop by at Paris Baguette and order my cappuccino!! I have been to a few other safeways. This is the worst one! The ready to eat sandwiches are a mess, the soup is tasteless, the cake slices are stale! They didnt have small soup container, they also had no spoons! How do eat soup without a spoon! The person at the deli counter could not speak english. This review is long over due, but, I was reminded of how awesome this Safeway is after yesterday's trip. Months ago when I discovered this Safeway has a Starbuck's & a Jamba Juice I thought that was pretty amazing. But their deli section is HUGE, not only do they have the standard deli items, but also a hot Chinese food section & BBQ/American classics in the deli section but in it's area in the middle kind of like a buffet set up. And the food actually looked appealing! I always make fun of fake Chinese food like Panda Express, but some of the dishes looked tasty, so next time I'll definitely have to try it! Oh, and my favorite part, they serve Gelato Classico here too! We shared a small cup of Creme Brulee for $2.90...it was delish...I am not usually a fan of Creme Brulee, but this was so good! The cafe seating area also has free wifi. It's big, has a big selection of items, it's got some self check out registers & it can give me & my coworkers a dining option for lunch. It's been 2 weeks and no one has contacted regarding the food-borne illness I was given from their deli. Completely unprofessional.

Went in as I always do to buy arrangement of flowers and use their service to put bouquet together which used to be $5 to $8. She said she'll charge me $65 just to put flowers together, absolutely outrageous! Then I said I'll do it myself can I use the counter, she refused to let me even put it together myself. In the deli section the old lady makes Patricia was very agro while working, she did her job but honestly so rude to my girlfriend and was yelling At literally everyone in line and her coworkers. While I can understand being unhappy about an unstocked item (ham) but yelling at my girlfriend yelling at a literal kid is unacceptable in my opinion. All meanwhile making a sandwich while making it harder for her coworker to work as well. At one point hitting and slamming the wrapping paper he set for himself before she even got there. Had the worst experience from a Safeway employee in the meat/deli department named MARIA! I ordered 8 pieces of chicken which were displayed in the counter, but was DENIED the order by this MARIA. She RUDELY said there was no chicken to be served and to come back in an hour. Then she simply walked away and dismissed me while I still had questions to ask! TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL! I asked her to provide me with her manager's name and that is when she put on the "Customer Service Oriented" facade and asked me what would like to order ? I kept asking for her manager and she pointed out a female who was NOT the manager but was kind enough to help me out. I visit this Safeway location almost daily and spend money, thus I expect the employees to treat me (and everyone who shops here) with a certain level of kindness and professionalism. While out shopping with my husband today I was in dire need of a bathroom so before getting groceries at this Safeway, I used the bathroom next to Starbucks inside the store. As you can see from the photos... their bathroom is quite disgusting and most things seem damaged. It looks like parts of their bathroom have never been cleaned and I would recommend any gas station bathroom over this place. By the way, the employees can thank me for throwing away the trash near the toilet that was clearly used to wipe someone's rear. I nearly threw up. My husband who used to work at Safeway says they were supposed to clean the bathrooms every hour at his location. I guess this place doesn't care for their employees or customers the same way. I have also seen employees borderline breaking their cart elevator. Otherwise, the store is fine. The bathroom is just unforgivable. read more

We are so fed up with Safeway in Millbrae! We stood in line 8 people deep with one check stands open. We all asked several times if they could get more checkers and were told we're trying. Forget about asking the manager of that store. I don't know her name but she's a short blonde and walks around with no name badge so no one knows that she's the manager. She could've come up and opened one of the lines but could care less. This is not the first time that this is happened. I don't know why Safeway keeps her as the manager there! Safeway is my favorite store but this store has a vibe different than other Safeway stores I've visited. The selection is the same, the aisles are wide and there are plenty of checkers. (is checker still the proper title?) The parking spaces are tight, I often see shopping carts kissing bumpers and the lot is always full because the spaces are shared with other businesses. The times I've visited I'm greeted by someone asking for spare change (different than Walmart greeters and I don't think they work for Safeway) Having the store upstairs and the patio layout attached to Starbucks is a plus read more

The impression I received is that this Safeway does NOT want to sell customized birthday cakes. It's like pulling teeth to get my order in, processed, and correct. Leading a birthday is stressful as is and to have to babysit this task is becoming such an ordeal. I am going to share my experience and gripes here so hopefully corporate will see this. Mind you, I am contemplating sending an email or mail this to corporate too. My job include process improvement and it gets under my skin when I have to deal with what a failed system. I placed a customized sheet cake online and paid. Immediately, I received the email confirmation. I thought great, this sealed the deal. WRONG! Upon check my Safeway account there was no such orders. I checked for the next several days, still no orders on my Safeway online account! I have read on Yelp where people shared they placed an order to find their Bakery claimed they never got the order. This will not fly with me! Mind you I am dealing with senior leader guests so I need this cake! After I placed an online order, I went out of way to the physical store to make sure and Julie kindly helped me so I filled out an official form. Bless this woman because she did her job and was very helpful. On the other hand, when I called in to speak with the Bakery Manager, he was unavailable. Called again another day and luckily I was transferred to him, Eugene. My experience with him was subpar. I hate it when people like this Manager rushes me, acts impatient, and doesn't make sure what I ordered and already paid is correct. Do your job man! You're in a leader position for goodness sake. I asked him for future reference what is the recommended process: online or in person. He says: online orders eventually make its way to us. WTF?! Dude didn't answer my question. Corporate fix this: streamline the process and QA it-make sure it works! This is such headache! If I don't get my cake tomorrow, I going to make sure all these senior leaders know how bad this place is and never order from such again. I will update if things turn out well.
