This review is for the STARBUCKS located inside. The woman working there-Cindy? Or Sydney? Can't remember her name, but she held that place down and I'm really thankful for her effort. Even gave a little extra frap in my drink. Thanks. read more

Worst grocery store I've ever been too. I try to be positive and find a silver lining but here there is no hope. We went to the deli where one would hope to find a friendly employee who would assist you with your sandwich needs. The man was not friendly and was doing anything to convince us not to order a sandwich including trying to sell us pre made sandwiches, we took the bait until he told us he only had one when we wanted two. We then decided to order from the sandwich bar, where he was angry and outwardly disdainful towards us. At the time we were the only ones in line with no one behind us, but the attitude continued. My husband and I were going to add to the order when more attitude came, and I decided I'll just make my own sandwiches from the lunch meat area. The store was overall nice but disheveled. Maybe this store could learn from food prep and having enough staff for a Saturday. read more

Worst Safeway ever. There are birds flying around the bread and bakery section. Service is rude. I will avoid this store to my end. Horrible! read more

I wouldn't recommend this Safeway. For one, the store isn't very clean, and there are often things clogging up the isles. When we went, it was nighttime, but the lines were still long, probably because there were only two checkout lines open. I would rather go to Nugget Market up the road. read more

Great butcher - If you are looking for the butcher of Marin or even in the Bay Area, look no further. Luke Douglass at the Strawberry Safeway meat department knows his stuff and great customer service to go along with it all. read more

So I needed to get a temporary phone today and had to wait in line for customers service for over 30 minutes just for a key. Why, you ask? Because no one was there. I was the second person in line, and I had to wait for that long, so imagine the last person. It was frustrating. They were all running errands and doing everything else but helping the customers. A woman who seemed like she was a newbie got pushed into the customer service table when she clearly had no clue of what she was doing. When it was my turn, which was a good 40 minutes of waiting and standing in frustration, she told me flat out, "I have no idea what I'm doing; they haven't even trained me yet." Wow. I did not wait for 40 min just to get that type of answer. I wanted to talk to the manager but apparently she was on her break. I ended asking another guy 10 min later and luckily this guy knew what he was doing. It took him 2 minutes to get the key for me and helped me get what I wanted. Overall, this is some horrible management and customer service. Shame on you, Strawberry Mill Valley Safeway. Improve your customer service. You need some help on this. read more

On Sunday 12/6, Safeway canceled all of its deliveries. Customers received a phone call, and when we called customer service they couldn't offer a delivery earlier than Wednesday. A pathetic 5% discount was offered to make up for the inconvenience that our groceries for the week being delivered. The obvious solution is to put on an extra truck and deliver true customer service. Lame. read more

Busiest time of day and this Safeway has two checkers working. No express aisles. Not shopping at this Safeway again.

Called the bakery several times starting at 8:30 a.m. When someone finally answered they asked me to call back as they were busy. Called back again and asked if they could decorate a cake with "Happy Birthday Sue" only to be informed the cake decorator was too busy to do her job today. I try not to shop at this Safeway as they never seem to have enough staff to run the store properly and the staff they do have are always rude and incompetent. read more

The overriding "feature" at this location is the unusually unfriendly, slow staff; it pollutes the experience. In fairness, management must be determined to manage costs by paring staffing levels (resulting in aforementioned rude behavior, I suspect). The space and selection are good (especially compared to Corte Madera and other Mill Valley stores), but the atmosphere overall is unpleasant. The balky self-check-out system at least lets you avoid the grouches, but either way, the experience is suboptimal. Meat & bakery counters are pleasant enough. Produce and cashiers: not so much. read more

Safeway is ruining their delis. At least two of the local stores (Strawberry and Corte Madera) have switched their meats and cheeses from Primo Taglio to Boars Head. In my opinion the Primo Taglio products were so much better. To make matters worse, nothing is pre-sliced. You used to be able to walk up to the deli, select the item you wanted, and all they had to do was pick some slices, bag them, and you were on your way. Now everything has to be sliced as you order it. The last couple of times I've been to the delis there were five or six people waiting to place their orders...and one person behind the counter. I live right behind the Strawberry Safeway and can literally walk down my driveway, cross the street and I'm in their parking lot. But I'm just about to the point where if I want sliced meat or cheese I'm going to drive to Mollie Stones. Even with the drive I'll probably be finished and home in less time. read more

The bakery looks very gross nothing looks clean. They always get the cake orders wrong. They're not always friendly to the customers.

Be sure to buy the green bananas. You don't want them over ripe by the time you manage to get out of this black hole. They have decided that 2 checkers is always enough for any number of customers. They also "pass the stavings on labor on to you" by requiring that you bag your own groceries. Or if you want the full unpaid intern experience you can battle the self check-out robots constantly insisting that yes, you are using your own bag. So if you have a free afternoon and need some groceries, spend 3-4 hours trying to shop at the Safeway in Strawberry. read more

This is a very busy location, and right off of highway 101. It can be chaotic only because of the wacky customers. The people who work here are amazing. Today my credit card would not work when I tried to buy a gift card and the manager DJ and the clerk at the auto check out were incredibly helpful and patient. It was just my Chase card acting up, and I had to call my bank and confirm that I was really ! trying to buy something. Anyway, the people here are very nice. Safeway is an amazing company and now that Albertsons has bought the company I hope it stays the same. read more

The people reviewing this store must be employees of the competition or spoiled trust fund babies. I've only started coming to this store about a month ago but find it clean albeit a bit old and the employees to be helpful when needed. Maybe they've changed managers recently so that's why my experience has been good. Sure you can pay a lot more at one of the "whole paycheck" stores (I loved that comment and will continue to use it). But if you are like me and are looking for good value with commensurate service and like to keep more of your hard earned money then this is the only store for you in Mill Valley. read more

Recently I experienced the most amazing, stylish, yet super professional checkout experience ever. So I just had to Yelp. I work in the area and visited this Safeway very late in the evening of Monday, May 14th. The cashier was "Regina," according to my receipt. I paid with cash that night. Regina looked towards me and held up the bills I had just handed to her, squarely for me to see, gripping them with both hands at opposite ends. She cradled my bills as if they were gold, and firmly articulated "Fifty Dollars..." She made change swiftly yet methodically and repeated her earlier respectful formality with my money. She held the change in front of me with both hands in this super cool, highly dignified ritual, and announced "Five dollars." She treated my money as if it was the most important money in the world. As she placed the money into my hand she grasped my hand slightly to close it around my bills, as if to encourage me to hold it firmly and safely. Regina had done a lovely job of bagging my purchases a few moments earlier, which was, for my convenience, now located a couple of feet towards the end of her cashier table. When the receipt printed out, Regina took it into her right hand, raised her right arm, then seamlessly swiveled and turned in a move reminiscent of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and feigned a "sky hook" of my receipt directly into my bag, yet elegantly dropped the receipt in before actually completing a slam dunk. It was slightly deadpan but very funny and playful. She bid me a pleasant evening. I returned my wishes that she do the same, to which she replied "always." Style, charisma, accuracy, and super professionalism like I've never seen retail. Kudos and thank you, Regina. And Neal Hutchinson for having Regina on your team there at Safeway, Strawberry Village. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. DRIVE FURTHER. This Safeway sucks. It bears no resemblance to shopping at either of the two other nearby Safeways, the one in CM just up the road and the one near the high school in Mill Valley. The Strawberry Safeway is overcrowded, understaffed, has a horrible parking lot and the last four times I've been there the checkers have been bickering at customers or each other, actually sniping at each other from across their stations. This last time the checker told a customer in line behind her to get out of her personal space (he was accidentally backing up to her register area a bit). Strawberry charges for bags when the Camino Alto one doesn't, and on two occasions I have seen them refuse to swipe their own safeway card to get the discounts for customers who didn't have theirs with them -- a courtesy that is standard at every grocery store I've ever been to that requires them. They usually don't have baggers so it takes forever to get through the line, think they are trying to get customers to do this job too. The lines are among the longest in Marin. SW in general is not a bad store, but this one must be a terrible place to work as the people are negative and petty. I"m going to try harder not to patronize this store. read more

First, let me say that I'm a regular customer of this Safeway, but after today, I'm going to look for another grocery store. I did my weekly shopping, to the tune of $225. First, the store was out of several basics, so I'll need to make another trip to find those, but that could have just been bad timing on my part, since the store was extremely busy. The girl who begrudgingly agreed to bag my order complained that it was time for her to leave, but they asked her to work another ten minutes to help out. Obviously she was paying no attention to her job. I had seven bags of groceries. I usually bring my own bags, but I forgot them this time. When I got home and tried to unload my car, the bottom fell out of three of the seven bags. A carton of milk exploded, and a bottle of vanilla extract (no cookies tonight) was shattered. The other bags were loaded so heavily that the handles ripped. I ended up taking my own bags to my car and rebagging to be able to get my groceries into my kitchen. Also, I bought a rotisserie chicken, which made it onto my bill, but not into my bags. So, all in all, I lost about $15 worth of stuff before I got into my door. And, to make matters worse, I tried to call customer service, and I held for TWENTY minutes before finally giving up. I'm so annoyed. read more
