I called this morning to confirm that the bakery would be able to make a cake with the Moana theme. I was informed that I would and would be able to place the order before 7 PM today. I arrive at 5:30 pm then had to wait 15 minutes for someone to service me and a line full of people. Then was told that they were all out of the Moana figurines.... you have to be kidding me! If it wasnt for the wonderful ladies at the starbucks inside, i would never shop here. They make it worth going in. They always greet you, remember your drink and how to make it and even go as far to remember things about you and your family. They give the store the warm feeling that the rest of the establishment is lacking. This is the only Safeway Ive ever shopped at where I have (on multiple occasions) had to bag my own groceries. Produce at this store can't be beat. A lot of local produce - corn is as good as the corn at the roadside stands. Fresh, plentiful and reasonable. I can also fine a good mushroom selection that I cannot find elsewhere. The deli has a good selection of different cheeses that are difficult to find in the other stores in town. I have to also praise the full serve meat and seafood counter. Where else can I buy .25'lbs of hamburger or 2 slices of bacon or 1 filet of wild salmon - only here. I go here ALLLLLLLLL the time. I live right around the corner from it and I'm a frequent customer to say the least. So much so I'm going to give them a 5 star review. Because I've never had a bad time there. Even the customers are awesome. So, the best reason to go here is the bakery, they have the most awesome Oatmeal Raisin Cookies. I mean they're boss. I make late night runs here like I was a stoned kid in high school who had a mad case of the munchies. I do this because they're just awesome. The people who work in the store are always more than helpful. They are polite and well informed and more than happy to do whatever it takes to help you. The self check out is always fast and easy. Hello All, Two and one half stars rating on Yelp for the store! 78 -100 of health rating. Customer service is trying as I was placed on hold twice and called at 1:11PM PST on 9/21/2019 to request a safety standard in the deli as I helped the new employee with sanitary suggestions of the deli meat cuts. Even worse, the lead deli employee stood and listened in the background instead of her help with my suggestions and deli cut of Black Forest Ham. I walked in and immediately looked at he deli meat cutter with scraps of Turkey, Ham-Off-the-Bone and God will only know what else was cut of scrap piles not only to the left of the cut blade, but on the tray where the meat falls off the cut. The in-experienced employee greeted me fine yet was confused about where the Black Forest Ham was to be located and stated she was not trained to find it in some particular way. Huh! First sign of trouble. Second sign. She located the Black Forest Ham and made a feeble attempt clean the blade with a towel that was lying around. There was still chunks of deli meat on either side of the blade and even worse the area where the ham would fall. She proceeded to cut the meat upon my one-dial-meter cut, and the first piece fell right on the previous cut scraps of deli meats. Oh, My! ( What do I do? ) She did not even place the wax paper down, first before the first cut and swish away the half inch pile of left over, multiple deli meats, that was still on both sides of the blade. OK! At this point I am shocked and push to educate her (deli cut woman) on the practice of the deli cut ( remember, the head deli LADY is still at the cut-out window listening to our conversation and still looking off to the distance ) . I stopped with a polite, "Excuse Me", you understand you need to remove all of the previous deli meat cut scraps and use an approved sanitary clean spray that should be accessible to your needs before and after each meat deli cut. She stated my manger did not tell me and I stated very politely I cut meats for restaurants and see you are being trained properly and need to clean the entire cutter before proceeding before the next deli meat cut. She defended herself by saying, " My manager never told me to do that, ( in a broken accent ), the woman staring still three minutes out of the back open square that looks out to the store. Third sign and strike out! The woman who cut my meat, grabbed the Black Forest along with the meat scraps into my bag. Oh My! And I took it like a Seinfeld episode and, yet told the cutter that if I get sick from cross contamination, I would sue due to your ignorance and the lady in the background that never made an attempt to help. HELP! HELP! HELP! I dig, ( love and not sounding off ) my Chevron credits at the gas pump and never what to jeopardizes my points by shopping here. Yet every time I visit this location, it is either the customer service, meat department ( Michelle is the worse and ruins frozen food by throwing it around along with worse customer skills to a level two ), self-checkout or managers that do are not available to help the situations to better approve the store. This Safeway sold my mother rotten shrimp. She reported it to the Mgr. yesterday in person. He gave her a refund and the rotten shrimp back in order for her to freeze it and said someone will be contacting her in case they want to test. Right now I am wondering who is to contact her and who will be wanting to test it. We will be contacting the Corporate Office and the Health Dept. I will never shop at this Safeway. I am absolutely dissatisfied with Safeway's grocery delivery service. My order was missing four items. I called customer service and was not apologized to or compensated for a delivery fee. Also was on hold for 15:54 befroe the call was answered by customer service. I am not clear how Safeway could possibly not deliver the groceries you order and charge a fee. After my usual Thursday morning grocery shopping at Walmart Manteca which is just next door to Manteca's Safeway, I had to pick up a 2 litre bottle of Fresca soft drink at Safeway. As usual with Safeway's rip-off pricing structure, the bottle was waaaay overpriced at $1.99. If I would buy four, which I didn't need, I would get a discount - if I had their ridiculous membership card. Then the rip-off price would be $1.25 each and my receipt would show that I SAVED $2.96 when I actually paid $1 too much. At this time Walmart sells Fresca 2 Litre for $1 per bottle. Period. No dumb membership required, no minimum purchase, no double rip-off to non-members. Just a simple $1 per, take one or take 'em all. Unfortunately, in spite of repeated requests, Walmart Manteca does not carry Fresca but the $1 price I quoted is available in many of their other stores, including Turlock. Safeway's prices are based on absurd gimmicks. Their price structure is proof that they cater to the careless shopper. In reality, raising their prices far above the normal price, then with a dumb "membership card" overcharging their customers just a little less makes no sense to anyone that pays attention. Excellent selection of vegan food! They carry Beyond Meat, Field Roast, Daiya, Coconut Bliss, vegan creamer, cheeses, a ton of Amy's stuff, and more. They have a bulk section for grains and trail mix type stuff. They even carry legit Hawaiian coffee which made me a very happy girl. If you're looking for poke, I saw two kinds at the fish counter, but it looked a little sad and said "previously frozen" so I did not try it. read more

i decided to venture out today and check out the new-ish safeway in manteca. it was formerly a pak-n-save, which was remodeled and upgraded to its more hoity-toity sister of safeway. i believe this opening happened back in november of 2008. i will admit, it looks nice inside with sleek displays, better lighting, and overall cleanliness. the grocery carts promote their desire for you to purchase a cup of coffee from their starbucks inside since they have a handy-dandy cup holder molded to the inside of the cart. the selection of fish, meats, produce were good. the deli counter and bakery center had lots of tasty treats begging to be purchased. there was also a rather large floral area on the far left side of the store. an employee working in the produce section was very nice, offering a slice of an organic apple that he was stocking. and wow, that was a tasty apple! price wise....eh. it seemed a lot higher than what pak-n-save had to offer, which seems weird since they are owned by the same company. yet the entire mantra of pak-n-save was the mere fact that you had to pack your own bags (and hence, saved a bit since they dont pay baggers). the strange twist to all of this was that they had a large self-check out lane. so let me get this straight.....i am paying higher prices at a store whom now wants me to check AND bag the groceries myself?? hmmm. i think i'll stick to the modesto grocery stores, get my groceries bagged by an employee, and pay slightly less (especially since stanislaus county has a lower sales tax than san joaquin, thankyouverymuch.) read more

I had to write a review about Deanna (sp?), the cashier who provided me w/ excellent customer service during my 1st or 2nd visit to Manteca Safeway (visiting my Grandpa). Usually when a cashier gets a customer in line w/ a zillion items, at 1:04 am, when the store closed at 1:00 am, & they're tired & ready to go home, they're usually not that friendly or hospitable to the customer. Deanna (I really wish I got the spelling of her name!) made checkout quick (but didn't rush me), easy, & painless. Even when I forgot to get Mini Babybel Cheese, she insisted on bringing one for me. She not only brought one, but a variety of flavors for me to choose from. Now that's what I call not only great customer service, but an awesome example of a genuinely kind human being (which I'm sad to say, are a rare find these days). Meat department is great! Friendly staff, and always ready to help. Can't give more than 3 stars due to the cashiers and staff at the front end. They can't pack bags to save their lives. They crush my food, over pack bags, and complain when I ask for paper.
