I would be very careful getting anything from the Deli, I just watched the lady (Anette) that works here serve 2 people from the cold case (salads) without putting on gloves, before serving them she was on the back, who knows what she was doing back there and she didn't even go to the sink and wash her hands. After that she went back into the back to do whatever and came out to cut cold cuts for someone else this time she had gloves on but did not change them, did not wash her hands again.... Definitely going someplace else to get my cold cuts. Almost forgot, when I told customer service they said they will need to let the manager know and then went back into the office and never called anyone to go take care of this.... 20 minutes later she is still doing the same thing and no one cares enough to send the manager over to stop it fro continuing. read more

Apparently it was not their "job" or they were too "busy". I left without buying anything and went to Save Mart where a very nice person made my sandwich and it was $1 cheaper. I haven't really shopped in Safeway since I was little kid in San Jose, though I'd shopped at their Vons chain in SoCal a few times. I liked that they had a sandwich shop. I used a coupon that offered a discount based on the value of the order. The coupon had no value after items were not included so I paid more for what I got than I would have been willing to pay. The only reason why they're getting one star is because they won't let me give them zero stars so 7 PM I came in to get a little can for my mom I sent there for over 10 to 15 minutes at first until I called on my own cell phone to the curtaincy desk to request someone to come and help me and other customers that had been waiting. Manager Misty walked up already have an attitude and explain to her and been there how long and all I wanted was a cake and what she said to me was well the bakeries close and I have worked in a safe way and I have never told a customer all we can't help you just because the bakery is closed Manager sent us there we help them the best we could and we had them happy when they left. Continue to tell me how she's never worked in that department but I know the all managers if needed have to go where they're needed so the fact that you don't know or even or aware of what is in the star shame on you I think you need to go back to training and the fact that when I told her I worked at a Safeway I hear that she clown complaining saying that I was rude but all I wanted to do was purchase a cake and when I asked her what kind of cake that was inside her reply was I don't know I told you I don't work in the bakery. Again you're in management so if you are that way then your staff will be that way correct. Who does reviews for grocery stores?! Um, ME! Love how they are open on holidays especially on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. My sister is big on procrastination so this is her place for when she needs something ASAP-Super last minute- T-minus seconds before her big party comes up. She lives down the street and I am her messenger to pick up groceries for her. Parking is never a problem. Carts are always available. Small-town customers are always nice (smiling at you when you pass them at the aisles), produce are all tended and well put out, and this place is ginormous. Will choose this over Walmart (which is located next door --but who cares)! Btw, Safeway (and affiliates) has a j4u app which helps you save some $$ here and there. Everytime you earn 50 (equivalent to $50) you save .10/1 gal in your next gas trip. I've also earn cool rewards like free Starbucks, $10 off my next purchase of $40, etc. Just a nifty way of saving some bucks while your already buying stuff you need. Safeway has an amazing floral area. Really pretty flowers & balloons at a reasonable price. I went in looking for an orchid plant to give as a gift. They had a really good selection, ranging from small to really big arrangements. I found the perfect white orchid, & went over to the register located within the floral area. Haley rings me up, gives me my total. I give her the money, she gives me my change, & then turns her head & starts talking to whoever is besides her. I didn't get a thank you/have a nice day, or was asked if I needed a box for the orchid or anything. I didn't even know if the transaction was done. I stuffed my change into my purse, grabbed my orchid & walked away. As I was walking, I looked at my boyfriend & told him, that was rude. He completely agreed. read more

What a horrible Safeway. I had a really bad experience with a cashier today. I forgot to buy 1 item after doing self checkout, so I grabbed it and saw that the self checkout line was pretty long so decided to go to the 15 item check stand. There was 2 people in front of me in line waiting to be helped. A new cashier opened up next to them so he grabbed the next person in line. As I was waiting I noticed the cashier in my line was helping a woman who clearly already checked out and had over 50 items at least. From what I gathered a coupon was not working, the correct thing to do was to go to customer service and have them help out when the lines are crazy long. Well that's what the cashier should have done. She looked at me and the other person waiting in line and just walked out of her stand back and fourth to the customer service. Not once did she say I'll be right with you or that she was closed. After waiting 5 minutes the cashier comes back from customer service and said I'm closed. I asked why she didnt tell us before while watching us wait for so long. Instead of an apology she said well my lights off. What horrible customer service. She was helping customers in line with the light off the whole time yet that was her excuse instead of the correct thing which was to apologize and just ring the last two people up who only had 1 item each, especially after waiting in line. I've actually worked in supermarkets and none of them would have ever been so unfriendly or have such a huge lack of customer service. I live local and use this Safeway often and notice many of the workers here are not very friendly. The woman who cleans the carts upfront when you enter is pretty rude too. I have been entering the store without a mask for the past few times and no one ever says anything, and so many people also enter and this woman never says anything to them. This past time I was leaving the store a black man was entering and this woman said very rudely and loud to him "you cant come in you don't have a mask" he looked at me and my niece leaving and stated well they do not have masks on, so this woman lied and said they did when they entered. Like I mentioned earlier, she let's almost everyone in without a mask so why target this one man and then lie about why she singled him out. I'm hoping management sees this complaint and has a talk with there staff, this is really bad customer service and I'm pretty sure someone will complain to corporate and they will have a bigger issue on their hands. read more

I moved to Manteca a year ago and this is the closest grocery store to my house. In Stockton I stopped shopping at Safeway because the lines were so horrible that every time I ran in to grab a couple things I would be there at least 45 minutes. So I was reluctant to go to this smaller location. This smaller location always is well stocked. I always find what I need. I have always found it cleaner than the Stockton location. And even at peak times I have never had to wait a long time in line. I come here frequently now! I couldn't give five stars because of the parking lot situation! I hope Safeway considers building a new store South of 120, all the new homes need a grocery store closer to them and having a parking lot away from Walmart and easier to access would be better for this store! read more

I ordered all of the food I needed to prepare my family a Thanksgiving Neal, and low and behold at 5:30pm the day before I get a call letting me know that "nope, not getting my order". "They are too busy".... then why offer the service?? Why?? Parents like me rely and find respite with services like this.... don't falsely advertise. I am so sad that I have to write a review like, this it's one of my favorite stores to shop in. However, when placing an order online to be delivered buyer beware. I placed an order early this morning, I was very specific and made sure to check all "do not substitute' any of my items. They mailed emailed the receipt and several items had been substituted and they added items that I never asked for. I immediately called the delivery number, after cancelling my order, I was told that it would take up to seven business days before the money would be put back into my account. I am a senior citizen on a fixed income, fortunately I will survive this, but what if it was all the money that I had, what if I had no other resources to feed myself for the next seven days? Why is it that they can take money out of someone's account but take up to seven days (while the money accrues interest) to pay you back when they are the ones that made the mistake? When is yelp going to allow us to give a rating of zero stars? We've encounter two bad experiences back to back (Separate visits of course). One from the front end manager Donna (I believe that was her name) & another from a cashier name Anita. Both were extremely rude and the situations were similar but the worst experience was from the manager herself! We approached the registered with our items that were on sale (Safeway Club card) for .99 cents. ME: Hi, do you double coupons here? MANAGER: No we don't do that in California! That's fine, I have good hearing you didn't need to add some extra character (attitude) to your response. ME: Can I get a raincheck on this item? (Holding one toothpaste in my hand which was on sale for .99 with the Safeway club card) MANAGER: I can't give you a rain check if the item is still in stock. MY FIANCE: You expect us to keep coming back for one? (This was the second time we tried purchasing their deal but there were always only one on the floor) ME: The box is damaged and I know it's just the box but I don't feel comfortable purchasing it, and there was only one left. MANAGER: Ahh, ok. *Shrugs shoulders & laughs* After my transaction of two items I entering my club card number & handed her two manufactured coupon for .25 cents off. She turned to look at my fiance and said "Wow! What are you guys doing with all the money that you save? Are you going some where?!" Then asked us if we had a coupon for the item we requested a raincheck for. We replied, "Yes." She made some rude remarks about all these people coming in to purchase the toothpaste in large quantities and what are we going to do with all of the toothpaste. To be honest, why would you pass up a great deal on a product you need? Who wouldn't want toothpaste for .50 cents a tube compared to practically $3 dollars which it is normally? To make a long story and a terrible experience short, as we were walking out she said quite loudly, "Somebody will buy this!" and laughed. (Regarding the damaged box of toothpaste) The situation could have been handed differently. I was not expecting this from a manager. My wife and I shop here only when we have to. We live down the street but go to Trader Joe's in Modesto every Saturday to do our shopping. It's much cheaper, much better food, and the help is much nicer. I've never been impressed with the prices at Safeway. I love when they mark down my favorite Dave's Killer Bread from $5.99 to $3.99, like that's a deal.. Anyway, the other day I came here before going to work around 7:30am. Please be advised that the complete turkey dinner for $59.99 is a complete disaster! When I picked it up on Wednesday evening before Thanksgiving, the turkey was frozen solid. I used to come here all the time when I was younger but before it was Pak n' Save before it turned into Safeway. Every time I used to come here, I would literally go straight to the bakery section where they used to give out free cookies. If they didn't have any free cookies out, I would ask one of the workers to give me one lol. Also, they had the best binder paper here. Way better than Walmart, Office Depot, and Target. I'm very picky when it comes to paper because I don't like the dark recycled paper and the one they sold here, it was literally the perfect binder paper I've ever seen so I stocked up. Now that it's Safeway, it looks a lot better interior wise. They finally have a Starbucks here and a Blockbuster box. It seriously is more of a quality than quantity grocery store unlike Food 4 Less. read more
