The staff are rude. They are short staffed, and cause gossip throughout the whole store. I have tried to gain employment to only be treated liked garbage. I don't know why these ladies take so much pride in being rude bit it's untasteful. Employees look lost. I wonder if they can retaliate against reviews. Don't ask for no ice at the Safeway Starbucks. They charge extra. And if you do ask for no ice they ask you if you want your cup full? Because that is extra. When you ask why they say because they aren't a regular Starbucks and they follow measurement. So they make up rules and follow rules as it suits them. They are rude, unfriendly and extremely slow at the Safeway Starbucks. why do they work there if they don't like it? This is the worst Safeway I've ever shopped at! Pretty shocking as the locations in the Portland area are great. Our checker Brandon has the same level of customer service as a cardboard box. He charged me twice for an expensive chocolate baking bar. Luckily I checked my receipt. Went back in to customer service, waited forever, and once again that employee was terrible. Didn't apologize for the overcharge, acted sleepy and had zero eye contact. I will avoid this place like the plague. read more

If I could give this 0 stars I would. The store was beautiful and shelves were stocked there was a nice selection but the customer service at checkout was EMBARRASSING. I am not from Madras and am here visiting family and stopped into the store for items for dinner. Everything was great until I went to checkout. My cashier was Oriana and I don't know if she was having a bad day or what but she was very rude to me and my family. I worked at Safeway in my home town for over 6 years and I was shocked with the service I received. Never would I not greet a customer and then proceed to treat them like they didn't exist. I understand that things are tough with covid and Safeway wasn't always the best job but it isn't that hard to be nice and greet someone. Sad to see that this is how customer and visitors are treated. read more

Shopping at Madras Safeway is like a bad dream. The woman in bakery was very rude to my friend and I. Asked about ordering a cake and I had wanted to see book of designs. She said that she didn't do that, they did and looked at cakes. So I asked well where are "they"? Not here probably at home sleeping! Gave me book and walked away. The whole time being rude, slamming trays. Never came back to assist or take order! The Madras Safeway is dirty and one of the worst customer service. read more

I second the motion saluting the Madras Station Safeway for providing good products at normal prices. We arrived about 8:30 a.m. on August 20 after sailing through from the south. We spent a total of $60 at this store. They did not charge inflated prices, and they even put up with lines at the restrooms. The parking lot was full but always had some openings even up to 1 p.m. when we left. A few of the people in the parking lot didn't even go to the Safeway; those people shoved their doors open and blocked other people from leaving their cars. Others slammed their doors into my mirror and denied doing it. The cashier who sold Safeway products to me told me the weather forecast was for sunny since it is always sunny in Madras; I told her that at least they have cheerful cashiers (although frankly I was then worried the eclipse might have fiascoed out with the weather). This particular safeway even accepted my Safeway Club Card and accepted the phone number to get "club member" prices for my wife. read more

I understand that with COVID going on things have never been more difficult. However I have never felt more discriminated against in a Safeway store then I have here at Safeway in Madras Oregon. I had left The store in tears, because as soon as I arrived to start shopping I had an employee who claimed to be a manager screaming at me because I did not wear a mask. Personally I don't have to explain my health issues, but I was going to, but Tue employee who claimed to be a manager would not let me speak. I hadn't even been in the store one minute before I had police surrounding me claiming to be there on an unrelated incident but they were only watching customers which made me terrified because why do you need multiple officers to watch a store? However I kept getting yelled at to wear a mask and that it is state law, which look it up its not a law or mandate. I've never felt so embarrassed, Harrassed and discriminated against by an employee. All who shop there should be cautious, they do not care about the customers. Edit: I would also like to add during the whole pandemic I've been shopping with out a mask, and not once had someone scream at me (Until now, people from other businesses have usually been understanding and follow The correct rules. We stopped for gas and coffee on our way back to Bend at Starbucks (Safeway) in Madras. Unfortunately our experience was really bad, my wife asked for her a latte and I ordered just a danish but the cashier (Mayra) she was very unprofessional arguing with me in fact she told me that I was being rude for asking my money back. Reason being is that I changed my mind and I asked for coffee before she finished the transaction and she decided to ignored me and continue talking to the barista and also when I asked if my danish pastry could be warmer between her ( Mayra) and the barista were playing with my pastry like throwing from one side to the other instead walking 3 steps and handed properly and then use the microwave so as result my danish pastry ended in the trash by mistake or not I was expecting maybe an apology, so obviously that didn't happen and I was frustrated with the situation cause she was acting like do whatever you want I'm not afraid in fact she told me, do you want me to call the manager? and my name is Mayra in case you want to report me. Absolutely ridiculous and poor customer service I have a restaurant and if one of my servers acts like this with a customer would be fired right then. When someone works facing customers should shown respect, care and carisma I didn't feel any of those qualities from this employee whom knows nothing about and what customer service means. I called the manager on the phone after I left and he offered me $10 gift card I appreciated him but I said thank you but I am not calling to take advantage I just want this to be addressed since could happen with other customers. Next time instead arguing with a customer how about she gives them what they need in this case I was just asking for my money back especially if you don't know what an apology is. Also Mayra needs to make eye contact when talking to a customer, since she was avoiding it all the time while talking to me and other customers too. Horrible experience. read more

this store really just not good. oooo it has a starbucks who care's. it's probably the only clean part of the store. The veggie/Fruit section is sad. Nothing is fresh it all seems like junk that fell off the back of a truck and they just threw it on the shelf. 1/2 the shelves are empty. The meat dept guys...wow where do i start. #1 Saw one of them making out with a girl in his cutting apron. #2 asked a different one where the game hens were he said we only carry them at Christmas...no you only carry them frozen. #3 there was a dog in the store being pet by the meat guys in their aprons.. WTF it wasn't a service dog it was some chick in whore shorts holding a dog in the store. the store could use a good sweeping. A more diligent management would probably help whip these people into employees that actually gave a damn. I'd give 1 star but the deli lady that was making roasted chickens was super nice and she was the only one. read more

Well, they offer gasoline that isn't as ridiculous as the rest of Madras tends to price it at. Fine selection, ok pricing, luke-warm service. It's a frequent stop through Madras for us. read more

My target for the August 21 eclipse. My intuition led me true. The folks here did an amazing job producing hundreds of breakfast sandwiches and burritos...and not at the inflated price they could have charged! They kept up with the huge demand on their bathrooms...and stayed pleasant through what must have been a strain. Madras put out the welcome mat for visitors and the Safeway store did it wonderfully! read more

Usually I have a good experience with the cashiers there but my recent visit was awful. When I approached the check stand, the cashier didn't even greet me. He was too preoccupied with the gossip from 3 other employees. Mind you, they were talking smack about another employee while my food was being thrown around. I gave the cashier a look to see if he got the hint but he kept talking to his coworkers. I asked him a couple of questions but wasn't paying attention, I had to repeat myself. Several times I have noticed the curtesy clerks are rude and even burp out loud without excusing themselves. I don't know about this place anymore. read more

At 9:30 AM, the restrooms were filthy, and the sandwich deli ladies were so involved with their gossip, they totally ignored me. One of them looked right at me as we made eye contact and proceeded to turn her back to me and continue her conversation with the other woman. I live in California, shop at Safeway exclusively and thought this was a great stop from Kennewick, WA to the Bay.area. Don't stop here if you need any help at all. read more
