I wanted a special birthday cake for my friend, so I called and spoke to Cody at the Safeway bakery. Cody was very knowledgeable as I went over what I desired for the cake. He filled me in as to what might be available. I was able to put in my final thoughts and requirements for pick up time, etc.. Picked the cake up yesterday and it was amazing! White cake with apricot preserves and fresh sliced strawberries for the filling. Buttercream frosting with colorful flowers on top and also cascading down the side. All complete with a customary birthday greeting on the top. Delicious! Thank you Cody! You went above and beyond!

Everything is out of order so it never fails that I'm going all over the place to get certain things. Example there's literally three different sections depending on what dairy products you need. Another example groceries and cleaning supplies are mix matched and literally everything is so separate that it's impossible to guess where stuff is without asking.

What's not to like about Trader Joe's?…read more I was invited to my dear friend's home for Christmas dinner this past year and her son-in-law offered to make me a dirty martini with Trader Joe's lemon stuffed olives along with the juice. Immediately I was hooked, so much that I had to go there on 12/30/25. Surprisingly the store was moderately busy and with the help from a very friendly staff member, I was able to locate them. The store is well organized and stocked and as usual, the staff members are very helpful and friendly.

This time we grabbed chicken legs, cheese, summer sausage, olives in addition to our top sirloin and ground beef. So we're excited and hope the new items carry the same quality. We figure they would be given most the cheese selections are from Wisconsin. As an original Wisconsinite, I beyond approve! The staff behind the deli is on top of their game. When busy, they have a ticket system and you're barely waiting long. Everyone behind the meat counter is ready to help. Space is a little tight to maneuver but very manageable. The best part is coming to the seafood section and not smelling the coast. They keep the space very tidy and clean. This is officially my new meat market for sure!

As such, you get great cuts of meat, house-made sausages, bacon, pre-made meals, and roasts, etc. This fish selection is strong, and they have an excellent deli. That said, given they are a small independent shop, you will pay more for some staples, and you will pay more for higher quality items; you won't have the same selection of produce as a 60,000 sqft grocery chain. All of this, though, is fairly obvious when you walk in. Tony's is focused on quality over quantity.

I'm used to this store being open early (8 am) so this morning, when I walked in at 8:30 and I was kind of in my own head thinking about what kind of nice steaks I would like to buy for my son's birthday, I was abruptly yelled at and told to go away because the store was not open. It was so shocking and so rude. I thought the person was joking. I said you're joking right and she goes, "No, I'm not joking! We're closed! " Even though the doors were wide open, I guess they were open for employees coming in. I was ready to spend several hundred dollars, but instead I walked to my car and placed an online order from Snake River Farms. I got $25 off and two day delivery so I'm thrilled. It might be a while until I go back to Tonys. It's OK that the store was closed. I just wish the employee had used better tact.

Over the previous two years or so, Las Huertas went slowly but steadily downhill - the shelves were progressively more bare, the fruit and vegetable selection tapered off, and the variety of available meat was steadily reduced. That steady decline has been reversed by the new ownership, and Carniceria la Tapatia is better than ever! Full display cases of delicious meats and seafood, queso fresco and other south of the border delicacies. Lots of hard-to-find* salsas, hot sauces and canned goods. The shelves are full of staples again, and the racks are filled with fresh tortillas, cookies, fruit, beans, vegetables and other delicious fare. If you stopped going to Las Huertas during its final months, it is now time to return. * - Hard-to-find in south metro Denver, that is.
