This isn't one of the mega Safeway stores. The selection is average. The staff will help you find things if you ask them, but they won't go out of the way to see if you've everything you need. Safeway's main appeal is that it's the only grocery chain in the Kent Valley and their sales are a lot better than Fred Meyer on the East Hill. Tip: Park on the east side of the parking lot by where the employees park. It's the shortest walk and easiest in and out. Wait - don't park there it's my spot! read more

This is our new neighborhood Safeway, and it's fine. We used to be loyal QFC members but we don't have one close to us anymore. The location is extremely convenient and they typically have what we need, so I don't have too many complaints. It does take some time to get in and out of and it's usually packed, so that's why I can't give it more than 3 stars. Fine to run in and out of real quick to grab a few items, but we'll continue doing our main shopping at Winco. read more

I use to live in Kent and shopped here weekly for food and other items. I have since moved and only occasionally use this store location. When nature called I had to use the bathroom off the shop floor and it was one of the filthiest places I have ever seen. It was disgusting and I hope no one has to change their toddler's diaper in one of these rooms. I left immediately. Shameful. read more

Don't normally bother reviewing big chains like this, but I am baffled by this store's 2-star rating. That said, I shop here regularly and find it completely unremarkable. It is a perfectly serviceable grocery store with no particular strengths or weaknesses. I have never had a bad experience here. She was very rude and disrespectful, during the transaction she made several comments about my financial situation during a global pandemic, when most people are laid off. She even joked to other customers that I didn't have money to pay for all the groceries and had to run out to the car. Not only did she get upset she then lectured me about the situation and said it's my fault that the line was backing up and I was wasting customers time. Safeway delivery is terrible. Do not use EVER. I have had nothing but issues. Last time I ordered my groceries, they left them on the porch and did not knock and they all melted. This time they did not even show up and there were things I needed in that order. Plus, they have upped all their delivery charges. The 4-hour window used to be free now it is 7.00. Never again. Their produce selection is lacking, especially in freshness and quality. The checkers here are among the slowest I've ever seen, and the computer system also fails at speeding along the process of checking out. Most Safeway locations are getting like this, so this is no surprise. Grocery stores need to stop competing with stores like Wal-Mart, and start being good at being grocers again. The bakery selection at this location is minimal, and the main focus of this store is probably feeding and offering drinks for local residents looking for cheap drink and easy food. read more

This place used to be a somewhat scary, serious trash-pit; staffed by Dumb and Dumber. I don't know about the staffing, but they've spiffed up the interior to the point that it no longer makes you want hurry out of the place swearing "never again!". One odd thing is that I couldn't find any public restrooms, which may be just as well. Its main claim to fame is that its got the cheapest gas in the area that I know of, and I use the station if I haven't been to Costco lately. read more

This store has given me a number of my worst customer service experiences. Usually, i like to wait a bit before giving such a poor review. If you have one bad experience, it may just be bad luck or the person your're dealing with, right? surely the store isnt that bad all the time, right? WRONG! I often feel forced to go here if I just want to pick up a few items, because it is the only grocery store in downtown kent. I feel that safeway is generally overpriced, so if im doing a lot of shopping, I will head to Winco. Today, I just needed a few things. While the store was clearly organized without any logic (the lunch meats are on the baby supplies/diaper isle), what really got me was my bad customer service experience. When I went to chekout, there were only 2 lines open, which were so long they were extending back into the corresponding isles. So, with my few items in hand, I went to the cust. service counter- nobody was there, but the woman soon returned to her post, helping the customer who had gotten there after me. When she finally helped me, she had a problem with the coupon I was using, saying that I hadnt gotten the right count on the item i was buying, but the coupon specified for certain ounces, "OR" a certain count. So, even though she couldnt back it up, she wouldnt honor my coupon and I had to get another item. Then, when she was checking me out, she saw my Safeway club card info. and started questioning my last name, and also called me it as if it were my first name, butchering it on purpose. Wtf? I told her how to pronounce it properly and left, and as I was leaving, she started yelling to me some bs about how I should really renew my gas points. It was all totally unprofessional, and Ive given this store enough chances. Its just bad. The parking lot is also a mess, and they have a major problem with loitering inside and out. read more

I've already ranted about this Safeway about my couponing experience where a clerk told me that my coupons were "illegal". Well today, I went to this Safeway again to get Starbucks. There's this new thing that everyone's raving about that's cheap and good. A venti iced water with 3 scoops of matcha. Apparently Starbucks isn't serving it anymore because who knows what. They probably know that's it's too cheap? Anyways, I still love Starbucks but not the gal/barista who told me NO. A blonde barista helped me out and when I ordered, she asked her coworker (can't remember her name but she was a brunette with glasses and dorky looking, super dorky looking) to see if it's ok. She tells blonde chick no. I have purchased the drink twice from there already and funny thing is both of them were the ones who helped/made it for me before. I didn't mention to them that they were the ones who helped me but I should have haha. She told me that THAT person could get fired for making me that drink. Sooooo shouldn't they both be fired then? Anyways, I think there should be a sign indicating that they will no longer serve that drink and maybe brunette chick should reconsider her tone when telling someone they can't make that drink anymore. read more

I hate this Safeway! It's not hard to find or get to, but they lock up the condoms and lube! Here I am trying to stop on my way home to buy a few essentials. I get to the personal items and they're under lock and key!! I had to go find some 16 year old kid to unlock the case. It is a grocery store. The reason I like this one is because they are close to my house, people are generally friendly, and parking isn't too big of an issue. It does get really busy during their evening rush, so I just avoid it then. I am fortunate and I can grocery shop during the day, and there is virtually no one ever there. read more

This store is the worst . The employees park in the spaces in front of the store because the store manager tells them the lot is unsafe.i am not making this up. Ask them! I think this is where Safeway sends problem employees hoping they will quit due to the low morale and military style management. The shelves are half barren and unclean You have panhandlers around the entrance who sometimes follow you to the car No security at all so no wonder the employees park in the front. This Safeway is often busy and has too few cashiers on hand. To make matters worse the self-checkout line has no limit on the number of items, so if you just want one or two things here you're screwed as the express line is normally closed. Unless you're making a serious grocery outing that makes the wait and long lines worthwhile go elsewhere. Now, that does not mean that I have ever gotten anything but outstanding customer service from the harried employees that work here, but there aren't enough of them. read more

Every time I go to this Safeway, I leave feeling annoyed. Shopping here is annoying, the lines are long and slow, there's always somebody having trouble at the cash register, baskets are hard to find, the self checkout always says "help is on the way" when help isn't needed, the store is filthy. I can't even blame the employees for this fact, it's just the people that shop here seem to be inconsiderate and self centered (throw their garbage on the floor, cough without covering their mouth, block the aisles). Also, Safeway never seems to have the items I'm looking for. There is always one particular item that most grocery stores carry and either Safeway just doesn't carry that item or they are always sold out of it. I usually go to Fred Meyer because there is no such thing as a "fast" trip at Safeway and Safeway is more expensive then Fred Meyer. If you don't mind other shopping with other customers who always seem to have the "I've never been in a grocery store before" expression on their face, don't mind paying 10-20% more for your items, don't mind the poor quality of the produce and don't have anywhere to be then this store shouldn't be a problem for you. The only positive to this Safeway is the gas prices. read more

I usually would put a 5 star but to night was strange when I went to check out the cashier with the lime green hair helped me ..so when she check me out I was waiting for my changes and my receipt she proceeded to put it in my bag with my watermelon..hmmm.weird any other cashier would usually gives it to your hand with ur change so thinking she just being nice so I proceed to leave safeway with my groceries I got to my car the first thing I grab is the bag with the receipt and my changes so I can put my receipt and my changes in my pocket I grab my receipt thinking my changes are in between it no changes no money just a receipt so I can back in with my groceries and ask did she forgot my changes so she said OH IM SORRY I MUST OF FOR GOT .. how can you forgot to give my changes I gave her a $50 bill on the computer so say she owes me $25.05 so she grab my receipt and have me my changes .. the thing is you can't forgot to give people their changes back when it sayd it on the computer and the receipt DUHHH... EVERYONE PLEASE BE CAREFUL OF THIS LIME GREEN HAIR CASHIER WHO KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE GOT SCAMMED ALREADY BY HER. JUST MAKE SURE SHE HANDS YOU YOUR CHANGES AND RECEIPT .. Store and parking lot was the worst I have seen for a Safeway. Bathrooms were the most disgusting unacceptable level of filth I have ever seen! This takes into account a multitude of portable potties and gas station bathrooms across the States. Both bathrooms were unimaginably horrible. It looked like they had not been cleaned in a week. Talking to individuals present, apparently the bathrooms had been like that for awhile. They present a clear health hazard and lack the ability for staff to follow food guidelines for health and safety. Only one working toilet and other one was so full of toilet paper and feces it would have to be shoveled out. Tried to talk to management and they were unavailable unwilling to respond to customer needs. In process of contact corporate and potentially health depart and/or food safety board. The worst part is that they have signs everywhere how they are following CDC COVID recommendations for cleanliness and that is a completely inaccurate. Not sure why corporate hasn't already address this as it gives there negative press. read more

I've been shopping at this Safeway location since it opened. It was clean, friendly, safe with great selection for people with allergies; but most of all the staff was like family. I can't say that anymore, the store is so dirty, lines are 5 or more people deep, the shelves aren't properly stocked and the staff is crabby! I will drive to Fred Meyer from now on. read more

My friend and I went to the Safeway Bakery on 5/23/12 to pick up a custom cake, and while I was picking up the cake, a woman from bakery department came back towards the bakery area walking really fast with a cart and hit me with it, straight in the back of the legs . She bumped me hard enough to knock me off balance (and then very hastily asked if I was ok, while continuing to walk). I left the area to do other shopping and a few minutes my friend overheard the bakery staff laughing about the incident, saying "did you see the look on her face". They laughed for a good couple minutes. They were totally weird, rude and very unprofessional. Thanks Safeway Bakery for a terrible customer service experience. read more

So far so good. I'm new to the area (sort of) & I've always loved Safeway stores because of their selections & just being able to find what i need, more sale items than competing grocery stores & they're always at a convenient location. This location is like any other Safeway I've gone to. But it ain't perfect. Yes the organic section is lacking, i tried finding some organic protein bars & came up empty handed. The stores layout is confusing sometimes but eventually i might get the hang of it. The isles are big enough but i am very disappointed with the check out. The checkout lanes are too close to the food isles & when lines start backing up, it makes it difficult to get through. Even when there is no lines, you can barely have 2 people walking between isles without almost hitting their carts so that is annoying. The workers here are nice however but its one of the bigger Safeways I've been to. Probably not as big as Downtown Bellevue's Safeway but a good size. Since moving to this area, I've found the same products i would have at other Safeway locations & i'm pleased with that. Also i don't see parking to be much of a problem for me at this location but i guess i haven't come during the busy hours of 3-6pm. The only downsize to this place is possibly the people who shop here. It makes me mad whenever i see someone smoking right in front of the doors. There is a law against people from smoking this close to an opened door or window & this location doesn't seem to care if they do it! Which is a huge let down seeing how kids have to breathe in this crap as well as i have asthma attacks whenever i walk past people who don't care about you but only themselves. But overall i'm happy shopping here & it's the closer grocery store to my home. read more

My husband and I have used this store for years with no issues as able bodied shoppers. I've recently had mobility problems so depend on stores which I know have electric chairs. Kent Safeway only has 2 chairs and the last couple of times I've gone to the store both chairs are dead, needing full recharges. There's clear signage telling people that the outlets are for the chairs only. Fair enough. But there's no sign reminding chair users to plug their chair after use. There needs to be a big sign on the wall reminding folka to PLUG THE DAMN CHAIR IN AGAIN. A similar sign should be on each chair. I wanted to use the shopping cart for stability to get me back to my car safely Because my cart wasn't piled high with groceries the wheels on the cart locked up, settling off an alarm resulting in an employee rushing over to see 'What's up' It occurred to me that the alarm must get triggered many times a day, resulting in an employee response. How hard would it be for the responding employees to check to make sure the chairs are charging? Or for enployees bringing carts into the store to check the chairs too. Being disabled is eye opening, you suddenly become a non-person or just invisible. If you rely on in store chairs, Safeway Kent is a crapshoot. read more

This Safeway is a joke! There is never enough checkers so the lines get backed up into the isles making it impossible to move in the front of the store. I never see employees actually stocking the produce or shelves. The parking lot is always full. This place is just too small and too slow. dear Washington, im new in town and fell on hard times for this 2017 holiday/winter, Today i walked into Safeway and found a manager name Paul,(i think), it was approx 1030 am, Told him my name is Karen, i am a sexual assault victim, i relocated here and my husband and i have fell on bad times, we have jobs but have to get time in before pay. we also are sleeping in an empty apartment with no food/water,this week my husband worked on empty stomach while i survived on crackers. but we know God is a Good God. this manager told me to wait by customer service, he called up to a lady who was waiting for me, Gave me a gift certificate for $15,to pay for my chicken,rolls and milk in my basket. I will always go to this store and one day, I WILL RETURN TO THIS STORE WITH PAYMENT, im so grateful for this act of kindness to me. Thank you SAFEWAY in Kent on Washington for having such a caring staff/mngr. Im eternally GRATEFUL for the meal today. 2 days before Thanksgiving 2017 i will never forget the kindness. The cold food deli at this Safeway is horrible! I used to get at least half way decent salads here but now all I get is very black and rotten romain lettuce that looks like a slug or some kind of insect has eaten half of it before they mixed it up with some fresh iceberg lettuce. I asked the salad maker Zoe if I could just buy the salad dressing by itself, because what I'm doing right now is buying there ready made salad with the dressing that I like for 4.99ea or 3.99 when you buy 2 or more. I usually buy 3. Then throwing away the bad lettuce and adding some more fresh lettuce that I buy separately from the produce section. (very expensive) I even said I would buy a case of it.( Because I am in deli management myself and I know that's how things are ordered.) she then said some lame excuse about them being in a set???? Whatever! So I said can you just make me some with only the iceberg lettuce? Zoe then now see's that I really do want to buy her product and I'm not going to take some lazy employee answer from her because i too do the same special order stuff for customers at my deli. She then went to her manager, ( who was talking on the phone I might add a personal call as well.) they talked for about 3 minutes all the while looking at me with a look of aw man really... The manager never hung up the phone. That's how I know it was a personal call. There are no distributors that I know of that will just wait on the line listening to you tell your employee how do do his or her job. They would just say, I see your busy I'll call you later. I get it! I do! Trust me I don't like doing extra shit either! She then said that yes they would make them for me. I was very happy! I know how much of a pain in the ass it is to have to stop what your doing and make something fresh for someone. So I of course told her I would give her as much time in advance as she needed. Zoe then says that she would need ONE WHOLE DAYS NOTICE AHEAD OF TIME TO MAKE ME A FRESH SALAD! I absolutely love the avacado ranch dressing in these salads though. ( I eat 3 a day) so I says no problem. Thank you! I then went to the manager who was still on the phone and mouthed THANK YOU to her because I know it was her call to make. This was great for about 2 weeks. Me or my wife would call in advance and they would make me a fresh salad. Then today my wife called in ordered some salads went to pick them up and three girls working behind the counter told her... here are your salads but we can't make them for you fresh any more. They said It totally messes up there day. Oops! I mean kit. We work in the same field. I do understand what my job is! The customer is not always right! But sometimes they are... Hence the very bad review. I will however still buy my groceries here because it's close to my house and the cashiers are top notch! They take the time to say hi and thank you for shopping at Safeway type of blah blah blah until you get to know them. Then there customer service really shines through. Vonda, Venus, and a few others that I don't know by name yet are great. Bottom line is... Great groceries! Bad workers in the cold food deli! Chinese food is ok though. read more

The short, old Indian self checkout head clerk gives Safeway a bad name and gives horrible low level customer service. I headed to the Self checkout with about $50 worth of groceries. Moving my Grocery bag prompted the sensor to go off and needed an override. I signaled for her and she just ignored me and walked off not even working. She was just avoiding me. That is not the kind for service one should provide at self checkout and with Safeway. I always get quick, courteous and friendly customer service at fred Meyer. She scolded me after returning and said they have a new system. So what? Do you need to be so rude and demeaning? She then asked security to come watch me. Which they didn't say or do a thing because I'm just a regular customer. Then another male courtesy clerk came and further scolded me, now I have 3 people watching and bothering me yet none is helping me and I cannot scan my items as the guy is holding my paper bag trying teach me more like bully me. I got so frustrated with how I was being treated I threw the groceries in the scanner and left. I will go to a grocery store that knows proper customer service I yell out. I was about halfway done shopping and it was announced over the pa system that the store would be closing in three minutes and anyone shopping needed to finish and come to the check out stand. 2 minutes later I had an employee telling me I was done and needed to go to check out. I told i was almost done and it would only take a moment and the rude sob followed me around staring at me and telling me my time was up. I won't go back.
