Literally bought a brand new box of Rice A Roni a couple of days ago and while cooking it saw at the bottom of the package it had expired 3/21/25. 8 MONTHS EXPIRED AND THEY ARE STILL STOCKING IT ON THE SHELVES?!?! I love this Safeway! I stopped by on Friday to grab some last minute flowers and satisfy my kombucha craving and it looked like quite the popular Safeway. The outside looked majestic with the snow covered trees in the mountains in the background and it is located is a cute area. There was a large selection of kombucha to choose from and I chose multi green, which is one of my favorites. The flowers were breathtaking and I had trouble picking out a bouquet. The prices were very reasonable; at MET market the bouquets look almost the same except they are $38!!!! There were also great sales on wine I noticed at checkout. I went to self checkout and although it was busy the line moved very quickly. Great shopping experience! read more

This review is for Safeways bakery's Boston fruit cake, yes please. In Orange County we are spoiled by countless bakeries within arms reach, here in washington state it's not as accessible. This grocery store cake is fluffy, light. The cake is moist and layered with a Boston cream in the middle. I personally wish there was more cream but, the amount is a good amount. The fruit on top was fresh and the whipped cream was slightly sweet and plentiful. Although it's a 6/10 to likeness, it does remind me a bit of a Korean bakery cake. Horrible staff. Had an issue with some deli food. They person watching the check out lanes acted like a car salesman - just outright lied about the situation when he knew nothing and I had not yet explained things. The store manager refused to refund because it was from another store. I called the other store and they said she should take it back. A pleasure to shop at: always tidy, well-lit, and fully stocked. It's the closest supermarket to my house, and I'm glad to have it nearby. The produce section of this store has been more than just awful the last few months. I've attached a photo of just one example of produce that went moldy within 3 days of buying it. Black mold on one side, classic white fuzz on the other. This is constant. And for what they charge, it's robbery. There isn't any point in going back for an exchange because they have so little and what they do have looks like this when it's sitting there for sale. If it's not already molding in the store (assuming there's even a selection) it will be gone in two days tops. Most of the time I'm choosing the best of 8 cucumbers that they have for sale and one time my girlfriend brought one to the front that the cashier noticed made noise and sound when it was handled. Thankfully that person just threw it away. If you see me shaking cucumbers, you now know why. I'm not crazy. This store just has ZERO fresh produce. read more

Cashiers are required to wear masks and the cashier I had today not only wasn't wearing a mask but had a deep cough. In the self checkout, I tried to get my bill from the printer. But whole paper was coming out. Old white gentleman cashier is very rude. He is yelling at me for their bill printer issue. Review is for their pharmacy. They are so unorganized and unprofessional, I can't believe they are operating like this. I came in a total of 4 times to pickup a single medication that my Neurologist had been trying to get me for weeks. My usual pharmacy was out of stock and I had to come all the way to this location just to get my prescription filled. No one seems to know what is going on. The first time I was turned away because they claimed to not have the medication (even though my neuro had specifically called to confirm since this was not my usual pharmacy). The second time they said they needed to call the insurance, the third time they claimed again they didn't have the medication... Now, the 4th time I am here right now and have been waiting to get this medication so I can be on my merry way. They had to call my pharmacy because they wanted to validate the medication and reverse a charge. Then because I was not one of their regular clients I had to go through all sorts of loop holes. THANK GOD THIS IS NOT MY NORMAL PHARMACY. Not to mention my medication was beyond overpriced and the woman was not helpful when I tried explaining that I normally pay way less due to my insurance. Today marked the grand opening of this much anticipated store. The company did a great job designing this store to reflect the Issaquah Highlands' community as a whole and offers a huge selection of just about anything one would need from a grocery store. Even though today was the first day for many of the staff members the store was laid out perfectly and employees while tired were more than willing to provide help in any manner they could. It's great to finally have a grocery store a few blocks from home and better yet a gas station that honors the fuel rewards. read more

I don't mind self checkout and use it when I only have a couple of items. Also like that there is a Safeway gas station nearby. Most customers are used to and understand long lines in a grocery store. If all lanes are open and the customer service team is friendly, your shopping experience usually isn't affected by the wait. Unless you see an open lane with cashier texting.. this is unacceptable. See photo. The lane was obviously open (light was on) but the cashier was on his phone and kept his back away from customers so we just stood waiting where we were. I was soon directed by another Safeway cashier to go to this cashier's lane and though expectation was already set low, I was surprised that he didn't actually deserve any expectation at all. Customer service was even more appalling than I imagined it would be as he stopped scanning my items a few times to talk to a bagger from the next stand about someone calling in sick and who he's supposed to cover. I finally told him I had a family waiting for me in the car and I need to get going. This is the third time this year that I've visited this Safeway. I normally go to the one on Gilman. I had high expectations on this Safeway because it's newer and I liked the layout. I'll come back because we shop on the Highlands a lot BUT it sucks having to experience crappy customer service. The whole store is understaffed by unhappy unknowledgeable employees. In the deli, after waiting for 10-20 minutes your order is given to you by someone that barely speaks English, in a container that isn't the right size because someone either doesn't know how to order, or the store is trying to save money on containers. Have you ever wanted some greasy over-breaded General Tso chicken sauce leaked all over the seat of your car? This is the place for you! Self-checkout has laughable technology. You can't put your items in a bag until after your order is complete weight will stop the order. The lane locks up inexplicably sometimes and some middle manager meanders over to make sure you're not stealing, great customer experience. I've had the only employee in the front end tell me after being forced to clear errors a dozen times for my dozen item order, that the lesson we learned was that when I have a lot of items I should go through a manned checkout lane. I would have loved to, but none were open. I think the lesson learned is a Whole Foods can't come fast enough. I begrudgingly shop at this dirty under-staffed store as little as possible. read more

The older gentlemen working self checkout on 10/3/21 at 10pm needs to be retrained or fired, because how he treats customers is unacceptable. If I buy something that has false advertising and doesn't live up to its expectations, I expect to be able to return it (for store credit at least) without hassle, not be treated like a piece of crap. Bought a sandwich, the club price was $5.00. It didn't ring up correct. I asked the checker and he said it did. I looked at the receipt and it didn't ring up. I had to wait for the moronic self checkout employee and she said it clearly said the price on the sandwich but she'll give it to me ( like I was a moron) I told her it said $5.00 on the sign in the deli and I'm not stupid. I decided to do some grocery shopping at this location while my little guy was at preschool. This is my first and last trip to this location. I realized that I bought 3 things close to or on expiration date from location after getting home. If I am buying ground beef and the "use by" date is the same day, I would expect that package to either not be for sale or have a reduced price. I also found some precooked bacon that is less than a week from expiring and this stuff usually has a much longer shelf life. The fresh ravioli I purchased from the refrigerated/deli section was also a week past expiration. Now, maybe if I had just purchased one item that was bad, but 3 items in one trip???!!! I am shocked. Shame on me, I guess, for not checking every single item I purchased expiration date. I guess giving a big chain store the benefit of the doubt that they wouldn't sell me expired food was too much too ask. At checkout, I was reminded why I don't grocery shop in Issaquah. I don't own 10 thousand reusable bags to accommodate my BIG shopping trip. For all the Highlands residents who use this Safeway, try the QFC right down the street in Klahanie. They have a better selection, they are much friendlier and they offer all the bags you need to bring home your groceries from store (b/c they are in unincorporated King County) and the parking is ample. I have never once had the issue of buying expired food off the shelves in an entire year of shopping here. read more

I'm actually quite impressed by how small this Safeway looks on the outside but how big and spacious it is on the inside. I've been coming to safeway lately instead of fred meyers because of the price and location. But its quite nice compared to other stores, including some safeway stores ive been in. For one, this is a newer place since its up in the highlands so expectations are high for the space, the convenience and their overall service and inventory. Space outside can be small since the parking lot isn't too big but its easy to get in and out of and i can find a parking spot most of the times, just not anywhere near the doors. And speaking of the doors, they have the worst bumps by the front of the door and my cart starts shifting off into another direction, making it go out of control. That is the only annoying part about the parking lot, except for the future of issaquah. I expect the population to grow very quickly and when that happens, that parking lot isn't big enough to have a ton of cars in it. They probably should of made it bigger but for now its ok. On the inside its quite big, bigger than other safeways ive been in which is nice because that means inventory is large and i can actually find what i come to buy. Some sections are small however but the workers there seem to keep things in stock without having bare shelves. I don't know however if its bigger than safeway in downtown bellevue or not since both are pretty huge stores but whatever i find in Bellevue, i can find here in Issaquah easily. I get excited when i see they have more flavors in some items i buy than anywhere else. Its nice to have a variety. Quality of all the different departments is great. Floral is probably my favorite since i walk inside and im surrounded by flowers. One of the best places to buy flowers in my opinion, even better than QFC which has quality in their name. The flowers i buy tend to last the longest and i never see a almost dying plant there. At least, not yet. The Bakery department is pretty nice. They have so much to choose from. Tasty muffins, donuts and cakes. Its a pretty sweet deal shopping there and its spacious in the back. Easy to find what im looking for. The Meat and Seafood department is good, i never have any problems with them. The people are very friendly to me. And the produce department is kept clean every time im in. They have their fruits and veggies placed perfectly and are always fresh. No complaints. Prices at safeway have always been good. Better than QFC, target or fred meyers. I find more of the things i buy here on sale than at any other store. so far my experience up here has been friendly, fast and the quality of the foods and things i buy has made me happy. Happier than if i were out of town, shopping somewhere else and not finding what im looking for. People tend to stress over going to the store but here i never feel like its a bother running to this location. Its easy to walk to, easy to find and the community is great. 4/5. read more

This Safeway location consistently has only one regular checkout lane open. When I go grocery shopping, I'm shopping for a week of meals for my family. I have way too many things to use self-checkout (and even the self-checkout will have so many people in line that you can't push your cart through the front of the store). Despite a line stretching down the aisle, this Safeway location will have only one lane open. It's like this EVERY. TIME. I. GO. THERE. I'm not a huge fan of Fred Meyer, but at least Fred Meyer always has several checkout lanes open and opens more if the lines grow long. I've wasted way too much time sitting in line at this Safeway. The last time I was there, the checker was telling me how he had only 45 minutes left in his shift and how much he hated working there! read more

This grocery store is clean and fairly well organized. However the staff needs lesson in courtesy and customer service. In the deli section the workers just stand around and space out. There just stand there while customers wait. The checkout clerk was rude. He let a rude customer who didn't ask to cut in front of me to get ahead of me when I already had my cart unloaded and I'm standing in front of the credit card reader. So because of that I had to move my cart . It slowed the line down. The store clerk shouldn't decide who's time is more important. I did state I did not say yes to him cutting in line. The store is clean and big, I will give it that. I got to my car and drove away before realizing the box of crackers I just purchased was not only open but the inside bag was open too. I prefer Sammamish Safeway better than this Highlands one. Because Highlands store's bakery is sometimes not as good as other Safeways, sometimes it's hit and miss I know I can trust sammamish location for my favorites. Price at checkout often rings different from what they advertised inside store, it happened to me way often I have no ideas why but now I do check my receipt trying to find mistakes on regular basis that is a kind of fun. read more
