This spot is tough for bottle drop. With baseball games nearby I used this as my Bottle Drop location. And honestly they don't have the greatest spot. It usually takes a while for the balance to update when I used this location. That's my big drawback besides the smell. Most locations do have an odor but this one is particularly bad. So yikes. Grocery looks dated and some sketchy people around due to the bottle return. Frequently, meat area is not stocked and butcher counter may have no one present. What bothers me the most is that so often items ring up the wrong the price and never in my favor. We noticed an item rang up wrong as 4.99 per pound instead of 1.99 but did not catch this one until we left. When we returned 12 days later, they would not refund it. That is not how you treat your customers. We try to do most of our shopping at either Fred Meyer or Trader Joe's. We come here if we just need one item or if they have a good digital coupon. read more

If you deliver doordash, self checkout is a godsend. Last night, though, I was told I can't use it because I had 19 items. I was instructed to wait in the very long line by a very rude associate. Nobody was in the self checkout area. Not one person. The line fore the ONE cashier was backed up into the aisle. I told her I'm doordash, I shop Safeway almost exclusively and I'm very fast. Then she got an attitude. I couldn't help but take it a little personally. What is wrong with these people? I've been shopping and doing deliveries from this store for eight years. Let me take down another star and wish that I could give ZERO. An hour before close... first off, when you are completely not allowing access to one of your main doors, maybe put signs out front so that someone, like me with a disability doesn't park in the ADA spaces by that door that I discover is closed and face the reality that I now need to walk to the other end of the store because, genuinely, it was the same distance it would be to walk back to my car to repark and I was already exhausted. I get to the entrance and then discover I now need to walk all the way to the other entrance that is closed to get a motorized cart because hey would you leave the door that has accessibility open to the public? BEST PART...I now need, LIKE DESEPRATELY need to use the restroom because I am in so much F*CKING PAIN that my bladder is SCREAMING. So I ask a guy who sends me to have to ask someone else as I apparently need a code. I am told...get this friends... OUR RESTROOM IS CLOSED FOR THE EVENING.... As if I walked into a restaurant ... Genuinely, I was glad that this was not more than one item for a customer I was shopping for. I messaged a friend that this is how places end up with people using parts of stores as a toilet... FYI - this is technically against the law but also you are supposed to have a medical note etc etc. I get that you all have crime but causing us who just genuinely need to restroom to wet ourselves because someone might do some drugs. I am just shook - like come hang out with me in the damn stall if that is what it takes. read more

Basic Safeway - large footprint that requires you going from one side to the other and the back of store to get just a few basic items. Stopped in to get some "digital deals" before they expire. The prices are great in digital deals, usually several do,Lars off the sale price. Just make sure to clip before going to the store or get in their Wi-Fi while in the store or you won't get a connection. I had a gathering of about 12 people for an office function about two weeks ago. My wife called and talked to Gloria over the phone for an order. I picked up the order a few days later. They were pretzel bread sandwiches and they were absolutely fantastic and fresh - made that morning. Gloria made them as well. There was mustard and mayonnaise in halved bell peppers on the side. so I did my pop cans and the limit is $14.40 per day per person which I completely understand. However I had $1.70 extra cans and one of the Safeway workers in the cans told me to go ahead and do it and they shouldn't have a problem Cashing it in. The lady behind the customer service desk told me I could only do the $14.40 and she toled me that as long as I do it today, but I would have to come back and she would it couldn't be her who cashed them, as long as it was somebody else cashing in. I went and got somebody else to cash it in after about half an hour, and the guy told me no he was informed that I've already hit my limit per day. I completely understand that but I would've never cashed in the rest of my cans. Especially since two times I was told that I could do it as long it with somebody cashing it in and the me to go ahead and do it that they shouldn't have a problem with . You have to be very mindful of expiration dates on their food at this location. Can't tell you how many times I've mistakenly purchased expired food and drinks. I doublecheck everything now! Just two days ago, we did a curbside pickup and the lunchmeat they gave us had expired 5 days prior. I was PISSED! Wish I would have kept it just so I could post the pic in here. I like this location of Safeway. This store, along with Trader Joes, is my neighborhood grocery store. This means I visit almost every day. I've never been one of those weekly shoppers. I like things fresh and my meals are whatever suits my fancy that day. I enjoy shopping here. The store is always clean, neat and well stocked. It's fairly well organized so finding items is never a problem. Every so often the store moves merchandise around in an effort to improve things. This is typical of all stores. The new layout can take a while to get familiar with but soon we're navigating our way around once more. There is a Starbucks inside so we don't have caffeine withdrawal. There is a red box for renting movies. The produce always looks fresh and the floral department is beautiful. There is a nice bakery and deli. This store does not have a pharmacy but Rite Aid is only a few doors away. There are some really awesome employees at this store. Vince, who manages the self check out area, is great. He is always friendly and very helpful. The lady in charge of the bakery always says hello and gives me a big smile when she sees me. The man who handles the outdoor barbeque is terrific too. He was passing by one day and offered to help me reach something on the top shelf. These folks and others help make this store a place worth visiting. read more

The first thing you should know about Safeway in the PDX area is that they are very limited due to business regulations. Also Safeway doesn't work the same way in California location wise. I have very minimal issues going here because I am used to it in Cali. I was in the area back in 2017 and 2019 but didn't actually go in the store until 2021. Unlike the stores in California, prices are a bit lower than what I would normally expect. This location of Safeway is very convenient. If you are riding the bus to this store, you can just walk right in. Grab whatever unfrozen item you need and get back on. There's even a wide variety of different foods and drinks that appeal to every taste. I personally bought some great fruit juices here and it was awesome. They even have Orangina for a very reasonable price. Drawback: Like every other bad review on here, customer service can be a bit bad. If you don't come here at the right times it will be terrible. I'd appreciate if some employees bring their A game. read more

They put items on sale then don't have them in stock, drove to this location yesterday and was told by the guys in the meat department that they would have new stock today so that I may be able to get the sale, came in today and guess what? Joanne is an older cashier, and she is so very rude. I think she gets away with it because of her age. Every single interaction with her is unpleasant. One time she said something very rude about my 4 year old that was with me TO ME. If someone in charge sees this review, remove her from being a cashier. I avoid Safeway because of her. At Safeway, everything used to be of good quality for a good price. We just had to pick up sodas before dinner and we happened to be here. I pay less than $6 total for a 24-pack of Pepsi usually. But we already bought dinner, we were starving, on our way home to eat and out of sodas. Safeway just charged $11.19. 12 pack of Sprite? $7.09. $18.28 total for 2 packs of sodas. Insane. Not okay. This store is hard to get to because the parking lot is structurally awkward and sometimes I feel like it's a never ending traffic jam. Once in the actual parking area is well set up and easy to park close to the store. The store is always clean and well stocked. The layout is very nice and was easy to navigate. The staff are always helpful and friendly. Even when the lines are long they set a tone of politeness and it is always a pleasure to go in and be actively assisted by kind interested employees who care about your experience and make you feel important. read more

In a town that's got Trader Joe's and Fred Meyers, Safeway has an uphill battle to be enticing. This Easter weekend they fought that battle with a tasting table loaded with all sorts of cheese, including several wine-based, savory cheddar, blue cheese, a garlic and a jalapeño offering, some traditional ones, and even Manchego, upon request. I want to make a special shout out for their choice to carry the Tine Brunost collection  of cheeses, made by boiling whey to "prim" and adding cream results in a soft, sweet, brown cheese. Safeway has there variants, Ski Queen, Ekte Geistost, and the Caramore (which is like a dessert caramel cheese); the hunnybunny loves the Caramore. These special events are essential to bringing eyeballs back from the specialty purveyors, and it worked for me. I explored the rest of the store: clean, well-laid-out, with helpful staff. I like the new improved self checkout. The cashiers and other employees are friendly. Everyone seems to keep busy here either stocking shelves, replenishing bags, and doing other things which shows excellent work ethic because I've been to stores where employees aren't doing anything and the checkout lanes are either out of bags or it looks sloppy. The meat selection lacks quality but the produce section is good and I like to buy my staple foods here like salad dressings, pastas, and condiments. I do like to purchase my raw meat from Costco because it does seem it have a higher quality. I don't like the congested parking lot and people speed through there. It is right next door to Trader Joe's so I shop at both most of the time. Safeway seems to have better prices but there are some items like the grilled chicken I like at Trader Joe's. read more

tl/dnr?? it was ok. I really do not like the inside of this store. It is dark, which makes me feel like they are hiding something, and it is trying too hard to be hipster in unhipster Tanasbourne. I am just not a big fan. Trader Joes is in the same lot. We usually go there. But I have been experimenting with grocery delivery because I am sad and busy, so I gave this a try. Amazon/Whole foods had two days of zero delivery windows available which they only told me AFTER I struggled with their software for 45 min to put an order together. And Freddy's clicklist and I broke up. It was them, not me. So, Safeway. 1. You can order online and get it all delivered or go pick it up and they will bring it out to you. 2. The software is user friendly. Unlike Amazon which keeps reverting to multiple stores mid list even when you clicked your store choice over and over , or Freddys with two non mergable lists. Safeway's has AISLES , and subcategories,and a good search function which are all helpful. 3. If you have a Clubcard ( I have had mine for 23 years since I moved to Eugene) you can get some good deals and you earn gas points. 4. There are more drugstore- ish choices than you would have at New Seasons or Wholefoods. We needed toothpaste and they had all the kinds. Not just Tom's of Maine. 5. There is a good range of organic fruits, vegetables and staples. We do eat a lot of organics if they are affordable so that is nice. 6. They offer you the choice of substituting what they don't have ( this is after you add them to the list) or cancelling the item. We had around a dozen items substituted. Most were close. I don't see multigrain and everything bagels as interchangeable ( whole wheat is closer) but they tried and my kid likes everything bagels so that worked out. I also don't see farmed and wild salmon as the same and now I have a bag of farmed salmon I typically would not eat. Meh. 7. When Freddys substitutes they give you the lower price of either the original or the substitution. Fair. Safeway doesn't do that I don't think. So my farmed salmon was a different quality and cost more. 8. My avocados arrived perfectly ripe. Nice. Some other stores don't do so great at the produce choosing. ( looking at you Amazon/New Season's). 9. Because it is Safeway they have the healthy things that annoy my child like organic brown rice or organic greens ( who still eats them btw) and the name brand junky things like Lay's Dill Pickle Chips (on sale) and boxed mac and cheese (10/$10) that she craves. It is about balance. 10. They don't allow you to tip the driver. I chose a 4 hour window so delivery was free. Our groceries arrived an hour into our window. I think this was an ok try. My receipt said I saved $100+ using my Club Card and buying a lot of house brand/sale items. But I also think I need to suck it up and go shopping myself next time. Did I mention that I hate grocery shopping and my ex used to do it for us ? yeah. That is pretty annoying for me. I was spoiled in that way. If I find a 4-5 star solution as a single working mom, I will let you know. read more

This review is for the bakery. After doing a ton of research my partner and I decided to get our wedding cake done here and were absolutely blown away with the quality, flavor and decoration. Maria was easy to work with, did a beautiful job and people raved about how delicious our cake was. No one could believe it was a Safeway cake! We got a 3 tier, middle tier lemon filled, simple white icing on outside that I added succulents and a topper to finish it off. It was elegant and beautiful.
