monday the 25th, 2019 I came in tonight around 11ish and checked out around 11:30 but I noticed one of my favorite employees were working and he looked kind of defeated we had also noticed the people in front of us a woman and a man and I didn't notice anyone else I think,, the man grabbed the bags and walked out the door as the woman swiped her card and her card declined and she said she'd be back and she walked out. It was 10 to 15 minutes passing and she didn't come back. We left and the poor guy named zach or zack however he spells it looked defeated like he didn't know how to handle a situation like this or what to do. This wasn't at all his fault and honestly I don't know for sure if they came back or not but I just think it needs to be known this wasn't his fault. read more

The stress of the pandemic has really affected your staff. I've been coming into this store since it opened and most of the time I have been treated fair. Since the pandemic began the staff at this store, including management, has become increasingly angry and hostile. ........Often barking and snarling at customers. Safeway is now just a store of convenience for the things I can't get at Trader Joe's. I dread walking in as I know if I have to wait for a cashier it will take forever, although they are friendly and know me since I have been shopping there for years. I guess it's easier to make a list this way: Things I do like: Conveniant - near other places I go to frequently Variety of basic foods and products (Not a great healthy selection of foods though) Friendly cashiers Things I don't like: Parking is always a pain The costs - if you are member (I am) you get to watch the prices drop at the end, but still... then there are those darn e-coupons you have to ADD to get the discount. I don't want to spend more time to get the savings the store should be passing on anyhow. Lack of QUALITY meat - pasture fed... their organic doesn't even feel organic :-p Always asking if you want to donate your change to some cause or another - no I don't. I donate to charities often enough, and I am curious if they get a tax credit for all those donations? Although I am sure they probably help raise funds that wouldn't normally be raised - so maybe I shouldn't complain about this. Overall, I think Safeway is a fine place to shop...IF you have one of their membership cards. The markup on items is really outrageous if you don't have the "discount" that comes with being a member. In a way, it seems like a scam to get you to get a card, even if you're only there once and never plan on coming back. With that said, I've always found the store to be clean and relatively pleasant. The self-checkout lanes seem to move pretty quickly and the attendant has responded promptly when needed. The bottom line is that even with the member card, this is one of the more expensive places around. It is, however, convenient and clean. I suppose that's the tradeoff. read more

This store is in mid-renovation, which is not reflected in star count but I am hopeful that post-renovation I can update this review to something better. I find the perimeter of the store to be really dark, particularly the produce and the bakery to deli area. I'm not sure if this is some kind of ambiance lighting designed to make fruits and breads look more appealing but it does not work for me. I also find that Safeway has really really tall aisles, maybe to accommodate more selection...but it makes me feel very boxed in and abnormally short to boot. Prices? On par with other Safeways. When there are deals they are quite good, and they often have a better selection than say Albertsons. The employees are most friendly, and that certainly counts for something. Your typical Safeway chain grocery store. Pretty clean, but their check out stands have lots of knick knacks and do-dads to help you add more into your shopping cart! (nice try corporate but I will deter your sneaky ways and just pay!) You usually don't have to wait too long at this Safeway to get rung up. So far great service and employees are pretty helpful. The employees are mostly friendly and helpful. But I mostly stop here for grab-n-go items on my way to work (either breakfast if I dashed out the door without it, or lunch for later). They don't have hot deli breakfast items. A pity. They do have decent donuts. Their deli used to be decent for salads but the new pre-packaged salads they've had lately are smaller, and cost the same or more as the bigger ones they used to have. Deli sandwiches? I've learned not to buy anything if it has a generic cheese because they don't differentiate between types well. Cheddar is a good bet, as would be American or Provolone. Safeway: land of the unexpected pepper jack! You know, when you say "monterey jack" cheese I expect that, NOT pepper jack, which I can't stand. At least cheese is easily removed from a sandwich, but I wasn't pleased. (The first time it happened, they promised to talk with their staff, and they gave me a free sandwich. It's happened twice since. I didn't bother complaining: fool me twice, shame on me. I just stopped buying sandwiches with 'monterey jack' cheese. Which WAS sometimes as advertised, not always pepper jack, but...I kinda like it to ALWAYS be what it's labeled as.) Also, come through around 7:30-8:00 am and they'll have only a single cashier open and the self-checkout lanes will be closed. Understaffed much at that hour? The cashier has always been efficient and friendly, but when I'm dashing on to work and just need to grab and go, it's not too amusing to play roulette with whether I'll get stuck behind the one person in the place doing serious shopping with a full cart. Safeway chain store this one is a better one. The produce is always good. The checkers are always friendly. The hot food section is average. The Safeway club card is a bit annoying to get items on sale but worth having because of the savings. It has a decent deli and meat section. Over all not a bad Safeway chain store. read more

I never have a problem coming here, I always find what I want. I do self checkout, faster and easier for me. Most of the time prices are too high, but if you have a club card you can get amazing deals for...things you probably don't need. I've walked away with five packs of 12 cans for something like five dollars...I've walked off with ten hamburger helpers for ten dollars... They have deals on things in HUGE quantities so if you drink a crap ton of soda or eat a ton of hamburger helper... if you're a bachelor, then safeway club card is for you. Other than that, I don't bother coming here. Everything I need is cheaper at Winco, there are just a few produce and hygiene items I need to get here. read more

Avoid this location unless you have no other choice. The entire store needs to be cleaned, the shelves were not stocked, and quite honestly it just smells from rotten old dairy products and out of date seafood. I ve been returning back to the store mainly for their baked goods and on some trips realized that though the prices for items in other departments are high, with their club card, some deals are worth visiting the store. I like that they have a Starbucks inside and the women at the counter are helpful and friendly. It has become my go to place for having breakfast some mornings. A bagel from their bakery section and a coffee from Starbucks :) It's still 4* for their bakery. read more

I went in May 12, 2022 at around 1230pm to pick up 2 orders. The first one was a grocery order which I completed myself. The other order was flowers. I went to the floral department at around 1245pm & spent around 10 minutes wandering, waiting for customer service, nobody came. I then came back at 110pm and asked a worker if someone could help me because I'm waiting for my order. He said she was helping another customer, she would be back soon. I waited another 10 minutes, then called customer service off my phone. A woman picked up and I told her no one has been at the floral for about 20 minutes and I have a customer waiting for their order. She then says Im lying & that she just left for the restroom. I tell them her "ok" to avoid arguing. When she shows up she proceeds to argue with me, & all I tell her is "I just need my order " She then says she's going to rate me bad This older blonde lady was unprofessional & I never got mad once for waiting approximately 20 minutes but she got mad at me saying I was lying. Safeway probably won't do it, but if you check your cameras, you will see I'm not the one lying. She's a very interesting lady though read more

I go to Safeway only a couple of times a year at most. It's a typical chain grocery store, but I do find this location to be very clean and has been fairly recently renovated. Items are easy to find and the self-checkout makes checking out a breeze. There's a Starbucks in the store and parking typically isn't too challenging. read more

It 6:30pm everyone is getting dinner and headed home. Safeway however has 2 registers open with 10+ people in line at each one. There are another 6 people at customer service and there are 15+ in line at the self service stations. I spent more time in line than I did finding the food to fill my cart. read more

I feel like Safeway has really gone downhill over the years. I stop by only out of convenience. They used to have a decent natural foods sections with various gluten free products but they gradually stopped carrying certain items over time. Now they took it a step further and tried to mix those types of products in with everything else. Makes it next to impossible to find anything! The quality of the produce has also taken a dive. They do have self checkout now but that isn't enough to draw me in. read more

I really wish this Safeway was better than it is. It is right across from where I work, so I end up there if I have to pick up an item or two or if I'm already at Trader Joe's. Almost every time I go in, I end up annoyed by the poor service and cashiering. If I want good quality or unique food, Safeway is not my first stop, but with so many other grocery stores in the area, I don't really need it to be. What I need is for the products to be in aisles that make sense, the prices to be reasonable, and to get in and out in an acceptable amount of time. But when I go in to purchase one or two items that I really could buy for cheaper elsewhere, I shouldn't be yelled at by the rude man working the self-checkout because some customer has started ringing up items and then walked away, so I walk up to ring mine. Or when there's a line of five people in each of the two checkout lines because the cashiers are going as slow as humanly possible or are stuck because another employee is walking slowly through the store to get the customer in front of me a different gallon of milk. I've noticed on more than one occasion that the cashiers look at each item and can't ring items as they talk to the customers. My boyfriend is one of the most patient guys I know and has actually left his cart in the aisle with the food in it because it has taken so long. I definitely prefer to go to other stores over this one if I can help it. read more

The fresh produce and meat selection is superior to that of any other chain grocery stores in the area, possibly with the exception of specialty grocers. Their Rancher's Reserve beef is competitively priced with local butcher shops. Because their beef supplier uses an alternate beef tenderness classification system as opposed to the USDA quality grade system (i.e. Select, Choice, Prime, etc.), you won't find USDA shield labels or quality grades on Rancher's Reserve beef. Given a choice, I would prefer that my beef was graded on nationally uniform standards of quality. Overall, I find their pricing to be competitive with other grocery stores in the area. On the downside, their plastic bags are so thin that your well advised to have a any glass double bagged. I had two bags give out on me when unloading my trunk -- one had a single bottle of wine, and the other had two jars of marinara sauce and an assortment of small, light items. The bottle of wine survived, unfortunately one of the jars of marinara did not. read more

I love all Safeways, but especially Forest Grove, OR Safeway and the Esplanade Safeway. I think Safeway stores are unique with their special gifts, cards and magazines, Starbucks coffee, nice delicious deli food, and lots of healthy foods too. Their own Safeway brand is great too. I find lots of unique gifts for Christmas and other special occasions, and they have great sales too. I'm allergic to wheat and they even have lots of gluten free products. read more

My produce from this store is almost always bad. And now they stepped to a whole new low. My pork ribs had a sell by date of june 01, but the best by date was May 25. (5 days ago) I went back to the store and the manager said they are bad. (Obviously) but the worst part is, all of the ribs they had out had been expired for 5 days. It's Memorial Day. Lots of people buy ribs. And they were BBQ'ing them outside. ALWAYS check dates on EVERYTHING when you come here. read more

We moved to The Lakes Apartments near this Safeway to visit my son for two and a half months. My experience is that this store ranks very near the top of grocery stores with cheerful, helpful employees. On my first visit, the floral manager asked me if she could help when she saw me looking at the flowers and grapes nearby. I told her why I had come and she took me to the other side of the store and helped me find the other item. An employee behind the meat counter said they would order an item I didn't see. When I said we wouldn't be back for a week, she said they would order it anyway. Prices may be a bit lower at a warehouse store, but Safeway was walking distance, so I walked there frequently during our stay. Store-wide, the attitude is most helpful. The store is not as large as others within a few miles, and so does not carry as many choices or specialty items, but my experience was very positive! read more

If I could give 10 minus stars I would. I just received the worst customer service ever. I spoke with "Cole" who said he was the manager but if that was the case Safeway needs to teach their managers what customer service and manners are. He hung up on me supposedly "accidentally" "the call must have dropped" 3 times! Made no attempt to call me back or even solve my issue. I placed a grocery delivery order through their store at 10am...the groceries were supposed to be here no later than 8 pm , it is now 10pm no groceries $70 worth...nobody reached out to say there would be any kind of delay...can't get anyone to help on the phone and this "Manager Cole" tells me they don't do delivery out of their store...yet they are on the list of stores to choose for delivery and when you open this particular stores website the first thing that pops up is that they do grocery delivery! This is crazy that a big chain like Safeway would rip me off $70 and have management in their stores take no accountability, make no effort to figure out what happened, lie to the customer and show no customer service skills what so ever. Someone needs to get me my money back , get me my groceries and train their people how to act. What is wrong with Safeway where they need to rip off customers for $70 and then give them the run around. Totally disgusted by this store and Safeways grocery delivery. read more

We moved here a year ago and the guys in the meat dept have always been great! Helping us with sales, giving good deals and going as far as finding us in the store to bring us our meat. We have a couple favorite cashiers who joke with us and are always helpful and the lady who works the self pay isles really works hard at getting to everyone and very friendly. All in all the people at Safeway really make a dull chore a much better experience. Ill always shop there read more

Basic Safeway. Thankfully it's open late- for when you need Tylenol at midnight or whatever. It seems to be busy all the time (especially at midnight?). I have lived in this area for over 10 years and only go into this Safeway when I have no other options. This store has always been horrible. High prices, rude cashiers and I'm so tired of my husband and both having to show our ID when one of us is buying a bottle of wine. And forget trying to use any coupons at this store. They don't like to take them so they will make a huge deal about them a pick apart every single one you use. The last straw for me was Christmas day. We looked online and saw that they didn't close till 5pm. When we got there an employee was standing in front of the door telling everyone they were closed. It was 430pm. He told all of us that they had to clean the store and close registers so that they could leave at 5 not close at 5. Thank goodness the always friendly, coupon happy Rite Aid was right next door and open 24 hours. And even though we were buying 3 bottles of champagne, only my husband was asked for ID. This Safeway is awful!! Go out of your way to shop else where! You'll be dissapointed if you don't! read more

This store has a very bad Store Manager. I heard him yell at 2 employees. And he was rude to some one their stocking the shelves. I asked her if she worked there and she said no. I told her she should report the manager she said every one knows Troy is that way that is why all the old time employees have transfered out of there. She said she will not shop there and goes to Ceder Mill. You can find a very nice manager and happy employees there. Sure enough I stopped in there and there is all the old employees from Tanasborne. I will never go back to Tanasborne unless the Manager is gone. I had my kids with me and did not like what they had heard! Safeway needs to take note. Sure, Safeway is a little overpriced (vs saving money on an item that expired yesterday or today at somewhere like Grocery Outlet...), but I went in tonight to buy some flowers and items for the holiday BBQ last minute and was quite impressed. The man ahead of me was trying to buy alcohol at the last lane left open, and the cashier refused to sell it to him...he had been in earlier with his girlfriend (who couldn't produce ID), and the cashier recognized him. When this guy started to throw a tantrum and asked to speak to a manager, the cashier said she WAS the manager. The man went on to say how horrible the customer service was, etc, etc, etc...I just want to give this woman props. She knows the law, and in case no one else does, if she were to sell this man alcohol knowing that he was buying it for a minor, whatever resulted from that would have been, legally, her responsibility. She stood up this dude, who was probably a foot taller than she was, and had maybe 75 pounds on her, and refused to cave in. Good for her. She did the right thing when the right thing is often hard in customer service. She may be the manager, but she still deserves a raise! read more
