The one cart available was broken so, frustrated I just did my shopping. When I was exiting the other cart was back - I had to snap a photo since it came back with an empty bottle of Petron in the basket so hay, Sunday AM - if you are drinking down a bottle of tequila, at least its a good one?!? I was loading my groceries as an employee was kind enough to warn me that someone had taken an actual dump in the ADA section right near where my car was parked. I appreciated the warning but, again, early Sunday AM - WOW. I also had forgotten the PTSD this parking lot will give you between it being horrifically arranged, that most of its users drive trucks VERY aggressively that are the size of an RV so they will and try to run you down ridiculously and the entire parking lot has potholes that are nearly a foot deep and a foot and a half wide. The whole lot is crumbling and getting in and out is challenging due to the horror show of the surrounding streets.

Staff members are often unhelpful and, at times, outright rude. Safeway is a large company, and I expect a basic level of customer service and cleanliness. Unfortunately, this location repeatedly falls short of those expectations. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and works to improve the experience for customers.

This place reminded me of the small grocery store my family frequented when i was a child many years ago. Chester's is a great, slightly small, full service market with prices that are not sky high. The produce section was actually very well stocked, as were the meat and seafood areas. In short, my grand daughter and i found everything we needed and didn't have to leave town to do so. The store was clean, and well stocked and organized. The staff was friendly and helpful as well. It was very easy to find, and the large parking lot made it easy to get in and out of.

I appreciate having an occasional glass of wine, and expect that it's difficult to find a quality wine selection in a small town that probably depends very heavily upon the tourist trade. Frankly, most towns known for heavy tourist traffic usually don't do well when it comes to what they stock in wines -- they usually aren't that impressive. I was truly shocked to see an excellent selection of highly-rated wines, especially for domestic Cabernet Sauvignon. If you enjoy having an excellent wine, this is the place to find it.

However, the fruit and vegetable selection is frequently a huge frustration. Everyday fresh items are in poor condition or have run out. And sadly, the prices do not reflect the quality. I might accept a lettuce that I'll have to throw the outer leaves away, if the price was reduced. That doesn't happen. Sometimes I stare at the produce area and just want to weep. I've spoken to the manager who basically shrugs and says he has no control over what they send him. I'm not sure I believe that, but I'm tired of speaking to him. This situation is turning Clatskanie into something of a food desert for people who don't want to travel out of town once or twice a week just for produce.

This is my first convenient market review and never thought I would, but it was listed and I thought why not, someone needs to be recognized. It's a typical market with tobacco, sweets, beverages, snacks & fried food. We really only go there when we are passing through Lyons or need something like milk, butter or anything else we feel might be an emergency. It's on the corner, as the name states and easy to get in and out of. What makes this place special and worth mentioning is the wonderful lady that works the register. She could likely be the owner, but I've never taken the time to have an in depth conversation with her. From the time you walk in to when you exit, she is gabbing & babbling away about anything & everything and somehow making the whole experience very enjoyable. We find ourselves talking about her for many minutes/mile after leaving. Her personality is positively contagious. For me, these types of people/workers/characters can make or break an experience for the consumer, whether it's dining out, shopping or I guess even at a convenient store. I hope she works there as long as I go to that store. It's simply a pleasure! Thank you lady and I promise I'll make time to get to know you a little better with each future visit.
