Slow and poor service at sandwich deli counter. I can't believe I waited 30 minutes in line just to place my order because the 2 sets of people ordering ahead kept asking for items not readily available and the one worker would please the customers by getting the items outside of the deli area. Just went in to get a deli sandwich on my lunch. I saw the lady working the deli counter roll her eyes at the couple in front of me when they kept asking for different items for the hot foods. After she served them she proceeded to help another customer that was there after me in the hot foods. Initially my thought was maybe she only worked the hot foods but when I asked the lady who was Rolling sushi the other lady yelled from across the room that she would be with me in a minute when she's done rudely. I understand a deli clerk can be a hard job as I worked as a deli clerk before but if you don't have good customer service skills and you are not happy with the job maybe you should look for somewhere else to be because the customers did nothing to you. It's a new world we're living in. Labor shortage, people not wanting to work, etc. So it's very hard to find bodies to fill positions, let alone people who actually care and do well. I don't know what this Safeway is doing but they're doing it right! The level of service and care I've received recently is OUTSTANDING! The staff are genuine and so helpful. We love the store, especially my daughter. Since they opened it is our goto store. We generally have good experience EXCEPT for this one guy-Jose I think is his name. He somehow give us/me a hard time. One day my daughter went in with her roller blades, he told her to take it off, as we are rolling to go outside so she can take them off, Jose followed and kept chasting us and demanded she take them off immediately on the spot, which is unreasonable as there are no chairs or bench for her to sit and do so. This AFTER I apologized and said we are going outside to take them off. Another time we were in the wine section, employee told us to go to self check out. My husband was doing the scanning, but Jose decided to come lecture ME about no alcohol beverages at self checkout!! I said why are you yelling at ME as I am not the one doing the checkout!!!!!! Both times a manager had to come and put him in his place, and told him to put on a smile, as he always look like he is mad at the world. read more

This may be petty. After spending a nice amount of $191 allotted 17 monopoly tickets. Had to ask the cashier for the tickets. She only gave 7. I felt jipped. That is like purchasing 5 lottery tickets and only handed 2. Hey... you never know if you have the winning ticket or your entry is selected in the raffle prize. ‍ Other than that the store is absolutely beautiful. Then again it's brand new and to be expected. Very clean. The prepackaged seafood area is rather small. The parking lot is not up to par for the size of the shopping center. Not necessarily Safeway's fault but it does affect grocery shopping there. I do love that they have the drive up and go option and plenty of pick up parking stalls. They have one of the cheapest gas prices in the bay area. Currently gas is $4.00-4.50 usually (June 2021) but it is $3.70-3.80 at this Safeway and this one only. It is not overly crowded. I don't really have to wait in line. I've never been inside this Safeway, just the gas pumps and the mini mart. The mini mart has a public restroom! The review is mainly based on the gas pricing. This was my first time at this Safeway (Hercules Feb 6th 2023). I highly recommend this place the employees are friendly & helpful especially Kevin (in the seafood department). He was not only helpful & courteous to me but to other shoppers as well, which I hardly see anymore. All I got was "I don't know if anyone is working there, let me page them". Again, waited and no one came to my aid. I left the store. Amazing staff! Everyone was so helpful even with the large bustling crowd. Special shout out to Luis in the Meat/Butcher Department for helping me out. There were others that were also pleasant and welcoming but I couldn't remember their names. My personal favorite is the well stocked adult beverage selection! Safeway need to be careful to not get in lawsuit regarding public racism to customer by screening their employees properly and training them. today on Oct 16, at 5:45 pm I went to Safeway located in Hercules. when I told the employee named Carla (Karla), the white lady, that I need 1 lb of ready made chickens, she said is per 4 pieces, I Told her with smile, ok, but since is end of day these pieces are very different in meat amount, some are very broken and are super small however would be counted as one. In return she responded with very demeaning rude condescending language to me "these are called chicken wings". I am an immigrant with accent and found her extremely insulting and racism. I am doctor and lived 15 plus years in this country, don't I know what is a chicken wing?! We don't need to get harassed by chicken lady for stopping by Safeway for god sake. If Karla is looking for a better job, I am looking for housekeeper and can pay her $30/hr. She doesn't need to get competitive with customer. What a poor management of Safeway so so disappointing. Saying goodbye to Safeway Delivery. My last 'delivery was due by 4pm." No delivery. Called Safeway should be here soon. Waited until 6 pm. No delivery. Called phone number listed of the delivery person no answer. Called El Cerrito store no answer. Had dinner plans . Came home after 9 pm. Checked my phone a delivery was attempted at 8 pm!!! What the hell!!!. I'm suppose to wait an additional 4 hours in hope my groceries are delivered! . It seems Safeway is hiring people who work at there own pace. Do not order anything from the bakery at the bakery! I went to the bakery to purchase a cake for my wife's birthday. Much to my horror it has mold ! It takes several days for mold to grow on cake. I went to return it the next day. The manager told me it was not her responsibility because the cake was not made there! I informed her that the safety of the food she sells is her responsibility. There was a young man today saying he was raising money for his basketball team so I gave him a few dollars and asked him if he was from Hercules high school he said no but he couldn't tell me what high school he went to, but he knew it was in Oakland. There are some good helpful workers here! Store is always clean, Sometimes there is lines, but I notice they do there very best to get you out as quickly as they can. The evening Deli staff is nice as well as the sandwich makers, but there is a Lady in the Deli that's kinda tall can barely speak any English and it's very frustrating at times, I notice she caters to her own each time I'm there. There was zero customers in front of me, I am the only customer, and there were 2 attendants behind the counter slicing deli meat. I was at Home Depot in Hercules and thought I'd check out the new Safeway... Saw the sign for the butcher, turned down the aisle and was met with a wall (apparently the liquor and cold meds are in a walled off section that has separate a register). Finally got to the meat counter, pork chops that are $3 at Raleys are $7 here. Didn't buy anything, but needed the restroom. Someone literally lost their shit in the men's room and it didn't exactly look fresh (aren't there Rona cleaning protocols?) decided that it could wait. Finally, I figured I'd fill my empty gas tank. The pumps don't appear to take the club card for discounts! You have to enter the phone number! I bought a few items that should have come out to about $20ish. The checker however was busy talking to her coworker, which is fine, I guess but she didn't finish the transaction and just handed me my bag. I later get a notification from my bank that I got charged $307 at Safeway. I called them as soon as I saw it and had to go back for a refund. They took the items off the receipt and refunded me the extra $287 they had charged me. I'm annoyed that I had to go back to get a refund and they didn't offer me any sort of compensation for it especially since now I'm out that money for the next 2-3 days. I went to the deli and ordered a sandwich which is called the trio. The lady in the sandwich department is named Damon and she put the meat on half of the sandwich. She asked me if I wanted to toasted I said yes and then when the sandwich came out I noticed that there was only meet on half of the sandwich. I have experienced long wait times for Deli service and my recent ultimate issue is this...on last Thursday I went to order pinwheel sandwiches and a fruit tray that is on their catering on line menu. The lady at the deli counter said "I'm sorry we don't have anyone to make this for you". "I want to pick it up on Sunday morning" was my response. "Okay but we won't be able to make that for you". I didn't understand what she meant. No deli person at all and it's Thursday and don't need this until Sunday. "Okay, I need to talk with a manager". I went to the customer service desk and I asked a female employee to call for a manager. The assistant manager walk over, can I help you? I told him my request for pick up on Sunday. "I'm sorry ma'am but we don't have the staff to make this order for you". I said "let me understand, you can't fill this order by Sunday? His reply..."I can't even get anyone to fill the Boar's Head deli case". I was stunned at his reply and unnecessary comment about the obvious lack of performance of his staff, to me as a customer. Very unprofessional and no effort to have a satisfied customer, make sales (approx $139) and no positive energy. Very, very disappointed as I left the store and was baffled by this person who is "managing" a major chain supermarket. Went to Tara Hills Safeway and was greeted by the Deli counter worker. "Yes, we can and here is your catering book and order form." and was given suggestions and made a few changes. Order placed. Picked up Sunday morning! Safeway execs and area managers, if you really care about satisfied customers, and I'm sure you care about making "sales" in all areas of the store including catering orders. Think outside the box and partner with Tara Hills for training and staffing and offer employee incentives to give the service that the community needs. This store has covid shots , they do walk-ins and have a pharmacy. I get my organic lettuce here for my animals here so it's not a bad place to shop , but the location big no no! The reason I'm upset with this place is not for the store per-say but the location and what happens in the area when you leave your car unattended/attended. If you shop here please don't leave anything in your cars ! All she had was a grocery store jacket in the car... so they don't care what you have they want it. My family member was just parked here BROAD DAYLIGHT and she had her head down not paying much attention at that moment thank god she didn't because shes very opinionated and isn't scared to speak up for herself no matter who you are. The reason I'm saying that is because there was someone looking into the back of her RENTAL car with her sitting RIGHT IN IT !! Thank god she didn't see it but the worker did and instantly spoke up and told her. What could've happened if she said something and spoke up for herself just asking them what business they have looking into her car... We shouldn't have to worry about this. They were in a black mask where you couldn't even see their face. Keep your older family members away from this place especially if you have a nice car. Old young they don't care ! What an amazing worker he could've saved my family members life potentially. So the reason they have a better rating is for that reason alone. For that worker. This review is for the DriveUp & Go service. We love the convenience of ordering our groceries to save time in our busy schedules, but that's not often the case with this service. When checking in the app for grocery pickup, it says they'll be out in about 5 minutes, which rarely happens. My partner and I have done DriveUp & Go multiple times and at least half of the time we're waiting for half an hour or longer. What prompted me to write this review was not the consistently long wait times, but the most recent experience I've had with this service. After waiting for about 20 minutes, we called the store's customer service and someone answered. They answered with "okay, hold on" and then proceeded to put us on hold for 15 minutes until we got automatically transferred to another line, which rang for another 5 minutes until it hung up. We decided to go inside the store to check on the grocery pick up, and were told by the manager of the store that maybe next time consider not coming at busy times. WTF! The icing on the cake is that the manager didn't even know how to help with the DriveUp & Go and it took them consulting with 4 other employees to figure it out, 3 of which who didn't respond to their walkie. I can tolerate the ridiculous substitutions and the long wait times, but the customer service was horrendous. Hercules Safeway, GET IT TOGETHER! read more

I injured my leg last week so I couldn't go to the store, I decided to order some stuff online, after I waited almost 7 hours, some guy showed up with half the stuff missing , the meat seemed like it had been sitting around for a while, I called there customer service and them to refund my money and come pick the stuff up, she was in the Philippines and I can hardly hear her or understand her.
