Brand new Safeway in Hercules. 6 cashier lanes but only 1 wants to work. Unmotivated workers, supervisors are probably sitting in their office while a poor asian guy is sweating to serve 12 people in line. read more

This Safeway has wide aisles which is a big improvement over their other nearby store. I can't really say if the layout makes sense, I never did our grocery shopping before. The only real problem with this location is the small parking lot with narrow spots. There is no street parking for blocks. They have nice deli selections and the soups are always excellent. I also buy wine here; it seems strange to me that I cannot take wine to the regular checkout. Before I knew this I was on my way to an empty checkout line when the security guard blocked me and sent me back. I was embarrassed. read more

I don't like going to ANY Safeway! This one is no exception. At this Safeway and all the Safeways, they have HORRIBLE customer service and all seem like they need a deep clean. Also any grocery store that has security at the front is a red flag. Their produce always looks sad and old. Don't let the "newness" of this Safeway fool you, it's horrible just like all the other Safeways. Their sandwich counter has abhorrent service, it's hard to find an employee working. I have seen an employee put their personal food in the microwave that heats up the customer's food. The Asian station, that food is disgusting and the service is also poor. And another thing there is hardly ever anyone at the customer service desk! I only go here if I absolutely have to and that's rare. read more

Safeway Hercules: (1.) Beware of substitutions. If you order a product that is more expensive (due to its volume/size) and Safeway substitutes a cheaper product (smaller), you will NOT get a refund for the difference. (2.) Safeway advertises "Fresh Pass" delivery service and charges for membership on its website, but Safeway does not have the manpower employed to deliver groceries to your door (as promised by Fresh Pass). Only commercial delivery services are available (Door Dash, GrubHub, InstaCart, etc. which are much more expensive. (3.) If your online Safeway account username is your email and your "member discount" is your cell phone, you will NOT get your member discount on items ordered for pick-up if you log into your online account using your email (to place your order) instead of your cell phone. read more

Slow and poor service at sandwich deli counter. I can't believe I waited 30 minutes in line just to place my order because the 2 sets of people ordering ahead kept asking for items not readily available and the one worker would please the customers by getting the items outside of the deli area. There's a menu with ingredients for a reason - to quickly complete orders. You would think this was some fancy deli the way these people are ordering! read more

This may be petty. After spending a nice amount of $191 allotted 17 monopoly tickets. Had to ask the cashier for the tickets. She only gave 7. I felt jipped. That is like purchasing 5 lottery tickets and only handed 2. Hey... you never know if you have the winning ticket or your entry is selected in the raffle prize. ‍ Other than that the store is absolutely beautiful. Then again it's brand new and to be expected. Very clean. The prepackaged seafood area is rather small. The parking lot is not up to par for the size of the shopping center. Not necessarily Safeway's fault but it does affect grocery shopping there. I do love that they have the drive up and go option and plenty of pick up parking stalls. Will definitely be using that option in the future. read more

I would personally not recommend this business at all I don't know why people get into the customer service field and don't know how to act towards kind customers it's always somebody who just look like they don't want to be at work you ask a simple question nobody knows anything I went in today for a simple money order and had to wait well over 15 minutes while they attempt to find somebody to help me then when I see a worker approach me she had a look on her face like okay what do you need instead of hi how are you sorry for the long wait is there something I can help you with this business needs to do better on hiring friendly people this is a family grocery store no need to have looks on your face like your just so irritated with your job read more

They have one of the cheapest gas prices in the bay area. Currently gas is $4.00-4.50 usually (June 2021) but it is $3.70-3.80 at this Safeway and this one only. It is not overly crowded. I don't really have to wait in line. I've never been inside this Safeway, just the gas pumps and the mini mart. The mini mart has a public restroom! The review is mainly based on the gas pricing. I always come here if I'm in the area. I go to school in Moraga and have friends around Berkeley too. read more

I have never been more dumbfounded in my life of a grocery store until I stepped foot into this store. I was walking down the soda aisle and I saw a Safeway employee named Chris making racist slurs about the customers and acting very inappropriate towards another employee who looked very disturbed!! He would make comments like "don't help that customer they are gonna get deported either way." He also said that all black people are the same referring to as they all steal he wanted the employee to keep an eye on the customer to ensure they didn't steal anything! This is the worst thing anyone could do especially when their job surrounds customer service and shouldn't make assumptions about people this way! I will definitely not be returning to this store again and I suggest if you consider coming to this store you go in there with caution!! read more

It's a new world we're living in. Labor shortage, people not wanting to work, etc. So it's very hard to find bodies to fill positions, let alone people who actually care and do well. I don't know what this Safeway is doing but they're doing it right! The level of service and care I've received recently is OUTSTANDING! The staff are genuine and so helpful. And they have amazing attitudes. I've worked in retail in a past life and it's hard to stay motivated. The joy has to come from inside and drive to do a good job. There's no carrots big enough. It's so refreshing to see so many good people working at this store. Thank you for caring. Thank you for showing up. Thank you! Shout out to Nadine, Miesha, Rosie, and Shawn. Sorry if I misspelled any names. read more

We love the store, especially my daughter. Since they opened it is our goto store. We generally have good experience EXCEPT for this one guy-Jose I think is his name. He somehow give us/me a hard time. One day my daughter went in with her roller blades, he told her to take it off, as we are rolling to go outside so she can take them off, Jose followed and kept chasting us and demanded she take them off immediately on the spot, which is unreasonable as there are no chairs or bench for her to sit and do so. This AFTER I apologized and said we are going outside to take them off. Another time we were in the wine section, employee told us to go to self check out. My husband was doing the scanning, but Jose decided to come lecture ME about no alcohol beverages at self checkout!! I said why are you yelling at ME as I am not the one doing the checkout!!!!!! Both times a manager had to come and put him in his place, and told him to put on a smile, as he always look like he is mad at the world. read more

Amazing staff! Everyone was so helpful even with the large bustling crowd. Special shout out to Luis in the Meat/Butcher Department for helping me out. There were others that were also pleasant and welcoming but I couldn't remember their names. My personal favorite is the well stocked adult beverage selection! Picked up a locally brewed (Richmond, CA) stout that can be difficult to source. Looking forward to pairing that tonight. Notice the local road names to each aisle? Nice touch Safeway! read more

Just went in to get a deli sandwich on my lunch. I saw the lady working the deli counter roll her eyes at the couple in front of me when they kept asking for different items for the hot foods. After she served them she proceeded to help another customer that was there after me in the hot foods. Initially my thought was maybe she only worked the hot foods but when I asked the lady who was Rolling sushi the other lady yelled from across the room that she would be with me in a minute when she's done rudely. I understand a deli clerk can be a hard job as I worked as a deli clerk before but if you don't have good customer service skills and you are not happy with the job maybe you should look for somewhere else to be because the customers did nothing to you. If you can't handle it then leave. Sorry. read more

This was my first time at this Safeway (Hercules Feb 6th 2023). I highly recommend this place the employees are friendly & helpful especially Kevin (in the seafood department). He was not only helpful & courteous to me but to other shoppers as well, which I hardly see anymore. He helped & answered questions and also found someone to help me in the meat department with my shopping items. This place is clean & bright and you see many employees stocking the shelves. This will be my Safeway to go even tho it's an extra 10miles for me read more

This is for the BAKERY department. I waited 15 minutes for someone to help and no one came to check in on me. I had to go to the deli department and ask for help. All I got was "I don't know if anyone is working there, let me page them". Again, waited and no one came to my aid. I left the store. I came to this Safeway thinking it would have been better than El Cerrito but I was absolutely wrong. read more

Saying goodbye to Safeway Delivery. My last 'delivery was due by 4pm." No delivery. Called Safeway should be here soon. Waited until 6 pm. No delivery. Called phone number listed of the delivery person no answer. Called El Cerrito store no answer. Had dinner plans . Came home after 9 pm. Checked my phone a delivery was attempted at 8 pm!!! What the hell!!!. I'm suppose to wait an additional 4 hours in hope my groceries are delivered! . It seems Safeway is hiring people who work at there own pace. Have been a customer of Safeway Delivery service for over 4 years. Don't think spending $99.00 a year for delivery service is working anyone. Been using Whole Foods recently excellent service cost a little more but no problems with delivery or products ." Goodbye Safeway it was nice knowing ya." read more

The city of Hercules should have never put this here. It's in a terrible location. It's understaffed and always out of stock on common items. The people who work there seem to be trying pretty hard. But they don't seem to be able to keep up with the flow of traffic read more

This is only my second time here and it seems different from the Safeway I'm used too. 3 people I asked for help all of them are like does not want to be bothered and not friendly. All I can say if they don't like their job or they don't like the salary just leave and give other deserving applicants a chance. If there's a zero star I will give it a zero. In fairness to the owner of Safeway, the place is nice, big and clean, and almost all you need is there. read more

Do not order anything from the bakery at the bakery! I went to the bakery to purchase a cake for my wife's birthday. Much to my horror it has mold ! It takes several days for mold to grow on cake. I went to return it the next day. The manager told me it was not her responsibility because the cake was not made there! I informed her that the safety of the food she sells is her responsibility. She just deflected any responsibility. The store manager refunded my money . A terrible experience.! read more

TRASH LECHES CAKE Ordered a tres leches cake and was so DISAPPOINTED! This cake was BONE DRY - basically a plain yellow cake with whip cream on top. Overall, it's a good store. Parking is not very good and now they allow people to stand out front and ask for money. There was a young man today saying he was raising money for his basketball team so I gave him a few dollars and asked him if he was from Hercules high school he said no but he couldn't tell me what high school he went to, but he knew it was in Oakland. Really? Also, lately I've seen people run out the front door, holding groceries they didn't pay for maybe they should hire some security, and be more careful about who they let "fund raise" in front of their store. read more

Safeway need to be careful to not get in lawsuit regarding public racism to customer by screening their employees properly and training them. today on Oct 16, at 5:45 pm I went to Safeway located in Hercules. when I told the employee named Carla (Karla), the white lady, that I need 1 lb of ready made chickens, she said is per 4 pieces, I Told her with smile, ok, but since is end of day these pieces are very different in meat amount, some are very broken and are super small however would be counted as one. In return she responded with very demeaning rude condescending language to me "these are called chicken wings". I am an immigrant with accent and found her extremely insulting and racism. I am doctor and lived 15 plus years in this country, don't I know what is a chicken wing?! We don't need to get harassed by chicken lady for stopping by Safeway for god sake. If Karla is looking for a better job, I am looking for housekeeper and can pay her $30/hr. She doesn't need to get competitive with customer. What a poor management of Safeway so so disappointing. Advice: retire this Karla and put some polite young person who treat customers with respect. read more

I was at Home Depot in Hercules and thought I'd check out the new Safeway... Saw the sign for the butcher, turned down the aisle and was met with a wall (apparently the liquor and cold meds are in a walled off section that has separate a register). Finally got to the meat counter, pork chops that are $3 at Raleys are $7 here. Didn't buy anything, but needed the restroom. Someone literally lost their shit in the men's room and it didn't exactly look fresh (aren't there Rona cleaning protocols?) decided that it could wait. Finally, I figured I'd fill my empty gas tank. The pumps don't appear to take the club card for discounts! You have to enter the phone number! Our account is attached to my wife's OLD number and "favorites #1" was not an option. 0 stars, won't return. read more

There are some good helpful workers here! Store is always clean, Sometimes there is lines, but I notice they do there very best to get you out as quickly as they can. The evening Deli staff is nice as well as the sandwich makers, but there is a Lady in the Deli that's kinda tall can barely speak any English and it's very frustrating at times, I notice she caters to her own each time I'm there. Sometimes I think she acts like she doesn't understand to get out of being helpful. Other than the parking lot traffic, I like this Safeway. read more

I've come to this Safeway 3 weekends in a row due to the fact that they are new. I don't know if they are lazy or just choose not to want to slice bread. They keep saying their waiting for a part. This will be the last time I will be coming here, might be nice but service sucks read more

I bought a few items that should have come out to about $20ish. The checker however was busy talking to her coworker, which is fine, I guess but she didn't finish the transaction and just handed me my bag. I later get a notification from my bank that I got charged $307 at Safeway. I called them as soon as I saw it and had to go back for a refund. They took the items off the receipt and refunded me the extra $287 they had charged me. I'm annoyed that I had to go back to get a refund and they didn't offer me any sort of compensation for it especially since now I'm out that money for the next 2-3 days. The manager was nice enough but I'm overall pretty disappointed at the customer service. read more

I went to the deli and ordered a sandwich which is called the trio. The lady in the sandwich department is named Damon and she put the meat on half of the sandwich. She asked me if I wanted to toasted I said yes and then when the sandwich came out I noticed that there was only meet on half of the sandwich. I asked her and see if she's going to put meat on the other side of the sandwich and she said oh yeah. I think she was more worried about when she was going to take her break because she asked another sandwich maker when she was going to take a break and said I was going to take my break right after yours While she was making my sandwich. Very unprofessional. For such a beautiful store. Hopefully management takes a look at these yelp reviews and applies training. read more

This store has covid shots , they do walk-ins and have a pharmacy. I get my organic lettuce here for my animals here so it's not a bad place to shop , but the location big no no! The reason I'm upset with this place is not for the store per-say but the location and what happens in the area when you leave your car unattended/attended. If you shop here please don't leave anything in your cars ! All she had was a grocery store jacket in the car... so they don't care what you have they want it. My family member was just parked here BROAD DAYLIGHT and she had her head down not paying much attention at that moment thank god she didn't because shes very opinionated and isn't scared to speak up for herself no matter who you are. The reason I'm saying that is because there was someone looking into the back of her RENTAL car with her sitting RIGHT IN IT !! Thank god she didn't see it but the worker did and instantly spoke up and told her. What could've happened if she said something and spoke up for herself just asking them what business they have looking into her car... We shouldn't have to worry about this. They were in a black mask where you couldn't even see their face. Keep your older family members away from this place especially if you have a nice car. Old young they don't care ! What an amazing worker he could've saved my family members life potentially. So the reason they have a better rating is for that reason alone. For that worker. I will be going back to ask his name and praise him for that. THANK YOU SIR! Thanks for reading hope this helps ! read more

I wish I could give it a less than zero star, but, no supermarket store is that bad. in fairness, when it comes to selections and location, this Safeway gets a 5 star rating. I am giving it 1 star due to the service, or lack of service that I received from the deli department. Went there today, 09/09/23, around 1745. I wanted to buy some fried chicken for dinner. There was zero customers in front of me, I am the only customer, and there were 2 attendants behind the counter slicing deli meat. I stood there for more than 5 minutes, the 2 attendants occasionally looking at me, and neither one of them stop whatever they were doing and asked me if I needed assistance or told me that they would help me once their present tasks were done. Totally, terrible, service. I will never come back to this Safeway. Really bad service at the deli department. read more
