Just finished an hour of Thanksgiving shopping at the Helena Safeway. Without fail, the crew were upbeat, patient, and curtious. In the midst of chaotic produce section, a clerk took time to locate brussel sprouts that had just come into the store and put them in the public space. Enabling me to leave with a completed list of vegetables. A stocker noticed I was too short to get to the chocolate pudding. He not only grabbed a container, but also checked the experation date. The checker was courteous, and patient with my coupon. And Stuart was careful not to overfill my bags as he told me about his holiday plans. The place was crazy with last minute shoppers, and I did not experience a single negative person. Thank you to a wonderful crew. read more

This is the best place for groceries in Helena, the problem is with the parking lot. Specifically, about 20 % of the Helenans who shop here seem to have no concept of how to exit the parking lot onto Prospect Avenue. Rather than exiting the lot into the nearest lane (as the law requires) this minority 20 percent are so pigheadedly self-centered and ignorant that they will trap a line of cars behind them in the parking lot for 10-15 minutes while they wait to illegally cross 2 lines to the third and farthest lane, presumably, on their way out to the valley. Avoid this grocery store if you can for this reason --unless you have unlimited time to spend an extra 20 minutes in the parking lot every time you need groceries. read more

Be prepared for a long wait in line. Ever since they got rid of their 6 self-check out lanes, there is alway ma a long wait. If u don't mind the wait, they're the best grocery store in town, because they balance a high quality feel and higher quality options with decent prices. They also have a Chinese buffet & hot food deli, as well as a Starbucks. More details: They replaced their 6 self check out lanes with 4 express lanes, & they usually have 1-2 open. Before they got rid of their self check out, they already didn't usually have quite enough regular lanes open, bit it wasn't a complete disaster yet. This is my favorite grocery store in town because they balance a higher quality feel and options with a decent price. But I'm abt to switch to the higher priced natural grocers if they don't fix their long-wait problem. read more

This use to be where I shopped, but no longer. Prices aren't bad as long as you play their online coupon game. My problem lies with the meat department. On two separate occasions, one of which was my last time going there, the services was beyond bad and the exact same thing happened. Anytime I've asked someone from that department for something or just a question they seem annoyed. They had burger on sale and the limit was 10 pounds. I asked someone from the meat department for 10 pounds of the burger just bulk packed in a big bag. This is the exact way I always get it from the old Albertson's just down 11th. The guy was clearly irritated with my request and stomped into the back. He comes out with a bunch of pre-packed packages of burger and says, "This is about 10 pounds". Hmmm, I specifically asked for 10 pounds, not about 10 pounds, and bulk packed. it's not that tough to provide good customer service and you just don't get it there. read more

I recently called the pharmacy to ask if they had measles vaccinations available at their location and was disappointed with what I learned. The website said that they offered them but upon calling to confirm, they had none on hand. The woman I was speaking to mentioned that they could have them ordered but after speaking with her manager said that they would not be ordering an entire box for a single shot. So despite what is posted online, they only offer specific vaccinations when they feel like it or when they are willing to cough up the $800 or so to stock their shelves. The woman was definitely more helpful that the manager (a bit backwards if I do say so myself) but neither was willing to make the order they had previously promised me. I'm disappointed with the manager's actions as he was not very accommodating. read more

I will start by saying that this store is beautiful, clean and has a lot of selection. I stop here on my way through Helena. The staff at the seafood department is excellent and you can tell they care about their job. Very knowledgable and helpful. The store however is a little bit choppy and it's a bit hard to find certain items. There are only two reasons I am only giving this store only three stars: the In store Starbucks staff is absolutely rude and inept and the deli is absolutely understaffed for the amount of services that are available. Hire more staff and better staff for the Starbucks staff. Please!! read more
