We have stopped here 4 times while traveling between Yakima and Tacoma. Our goal is to get lunch sandwiches from the deli. The first three times we waited in front of the sandwich station and were ignored all three times - no one even looked our way, and staff were not busy. They keep the sandwich fixings covered with metal lids which makes it appear that they are not set up to make sandwiches. After making this assumption, we bought premade sandwiches from the case which do not come with condiments. Today I started out being ignored. I engaged one of the workers who was preparing sushi to let her know I would like a sandwich. She pointed to another worker who was joking around with some other customers and while she did so, she did not check to see who else might be waiting. When the other people left I walked down to ask about having a sandwich made. There was some subtle attitude but she walked down to the station and made the sandwich I requested. It seemed like I was putting her out. Husband picked out a premade sandwich to avoid getting the stink eye we assumed could happen if we asked for a second sandwich. Like many other Safeways we have been to, the restroom cleanliness is marginal. This one has an unpleasant smell. read more

Needs positive attitudes from management and employees and open daily discussions. Management will be liked if they make an effort to be kind and honest to employees. A management that is liked? The employees get in line and follow. Where knowledge is lacking on both sides, Management and employees must not have barriers asking for explanations and what problems they are having. If management gets behind the employees, the employees will follow and it will be a great place. Honest clear minds to start. I can't work in a place where my job is unfairly threatened at all times. I like this store but my issue is with the weekly digital ads. Bought a spiral ham. Had a digital special $.97 a pound. Checked my receipt l was charged the regular $1.99 a pound a $10 difference. went back in got it corrected. Same ad a few days later got 3 lb pkg of hamburger digital spec about $9. Checked my receipt got charged $13. Customer service verified that I should have got it. The checker was as frustrated as me the digital prices don't always download right. Been shopping here for 16 years. I know alot of the cashiers and have become good friends with them. It's a clean store and they have good prices to boot. Their weekly sales are always a great deal and produce has always been fresh and tasty. AGHHHHH 1 pm on a work day yet of course NO parking (seriously after driving around the lot three times) I finally got one except some LAZY person left the cart in the parking spot! What's worse is I got out to move the cart so I could park here and I see a Safeway employee over at the cart return which is literally 20 feet from where the lazy person left their cart in the parking spot! So maybe this Safeway employee didn't see it somehow or didn't bother to get it and super lazy person couldn't walk twenty feet to return the cart. Besides that I would say just find a different grocery store... This Safeway is never not crowded even at weird hours when most people usually are at work. Ive spent 35 minutes in line one evening and instead of another register opening up I watched one close down which pushed that line into ours. I never have something bad to say about Safeway. I've always really liked my local Safeway but since moving here I have definitely found a Safeway I can be disappointed about. I'll definitely change my review or update it if something changes. I only come here if I absolutely have to and once I get to know the area better I'll be visiting a different grocery store for sure. My advice would be stop in Tumwater on your way home if you go through there on I5. I like the Costco and Fred Meyers there. Haven't been to a Tumwater Safeway yet though. read more

This is the Safeway I've been frequenting since High School. Yes, it's way, WAY out in the sticks, but so is my son, so it works out. I know many of the employees by name, and they know mine. I can't recall a time I've ever experienced what some of the other reviewers have as far as rude, apathetic staff. Quite the contrary, actually. Those that don't want to be there usually end up leaving in short time anyway. There is a decent sized organic section, and a lot of the fruits and veggies are local. They have a great high-end cheese selection (including goat cheeses, which I *can* have) and now (finally, after a few years of hounding) offer gluten free and lactard-friendly options. Some things are still hard to come by, like sesame oil, full-fat coconut milk (without all the added mumbo-jumbo), cashew cream, and their komucha section needs more love (they NEVER have the one I want in stock even though they DO carry it), but eh.. this is a small town, and having lived here, know that a lot of people don't eat the same things a lot of us "city-folk" do, thus there isn't a need for it out there. I like stopping by after dropping my son off to pick up things I'm low on and get gas. Gas is ridiculously cheap out here compared to Seattle. And I shop enough that I usually get a nice discount every time I fill up. OH!! Annndd, unlike Seattle's Safeways, this one doesn't monetarily knock you for forgetting your own bags. I have to say there is nothing special about our local store. We have been regulars for a long time now & as time has gone by the environment of the store continues to unfortunately get worse. We both remember when we were younger the store was more inviting. The staff was more personable, more willing to reach out to help or see if there was anything they could do. When you walk into the store now no one really even looks at you, let alone asks if you need any help. I can't tell you the last time someone asked if we would like some help out to the car or even if we found everything we were looking for. More & more often we find ourselves just trying to get in & out of there as quick as possible. The shelves are stocked but you always have to check the expiration dates. We find that it's very consistent to see expired products still on the shelves all over the store. They also seem to have an issue with getting the carts that are spread all over the parking lot. It's very rare that there are some up by the door. Overall it's disappointing as we are a smaller community & it would be fantastic to have that same small town feeling that was there before. We continue to shop here as we want to support the local community but not sure what can be done to change the environment. read more

Not one to rant but I'm concerned what kind of Safeway is being run. I walk in as I'm from out of town to see an employee smoking pot in public, where anyone can see her. As I preceded to shop staff was helpful and kind. I go to the cashier and as luck would have its the girl from outside. She seemed nice, names Chantell. Stopped by to pick up a few items, Safeway has pretty much everything I ever need, and they are always running some sort of promo to help the local charities. This week they were doing a grocery bag that you could buy to donate to Plateau Outreach Ministries. Which is a well respected charity that works here in this local Plateau area. I love Safeway. The workers here are friendly and I always have a good experience. Their prices are definately more expensive than a Winco but you can usually find specials and deals. Safeway has their own Organics line which is pretty decent. They also usually have a good selection of meats. read more

Duane, cashier, was very helpful, kind, respectful and reasonable. I bought a bag of kale and noticed when I was packing away my groceries that there was a hole in the bag. I went back and spoke to Duane. I was concerned about it going to waste and would have settled for him to just tape up the bag. Instead he refunded my money with no hesitation. My mom and I went shopping here tonight and had a great time at first. Apart from some fruit flies in the produce section, the produce looked great and fresh and many items in the store were marked down which is always nice to see. However, when it came time to check out our time was soured by a PIC named Lori. As my mother puts it, "we had the worst checker everrr." We were in a great mood and are generally friendly people but were immediately put off by the harsh manner in which she spoke, very blunt and bossy. At one point I pointed out during the transaction that the grapefruit had rang up wrongly, and she told me she hadn't put through my number yet- very bossily I might add- but she had because other sale prices were coming off. I trusted she knew what she was doing, and let her ring it up. I am a cashier too, for Fred Meyer, so I know some prices can ring up differently for different items sometimes. When the receipt printed, I let her know it hadn't came off. She said I must have grabbed the wrong grapefruit because that was the type of grapefruit I'd bought. I told her, "well, that's strange, because I specifically picked up a grapefruit from the $1.99 pile....but don't worry about it. It's only $2." (Later I went back and checked, and indeed, they were X-tra Large Grapefruits for $1.99. It was more of how she argued with me about it than the fact it had rang up wrongly.) It got worse from there, she started throwing bags around in a strange way, talking and growling about how angry she was about the bags. I mean literally slamming them down. This went on for awhile. My mom became uncomfortable and told her to relax but it kept going. When my poor mom tried to tell her her rewards phone number, Lori quite rudely told her to wait until she was done. We stayed polite the whole time. A parcel came up and interacted with her for a bit and the poor guy looked like he felt like he was walking on eggshells, saying sorry about 10 times for no legitimate reason and looking like he feared speaking with her. Everything that came out of her mouth had a horrible intonation. Clearly, this is how she behaves on a daily basis, and I feel very bad for the people that, unfortunately, work under her, as that is not how a respectable boss behaves. I would quit rather than tolerate that disrespect. As someone who has worked in customer service for years, I would never ever act like that on my worst days- it is completely unprofessional and shameful to treat people the way she does. It's up to the bosses to nurture a welcoming and friendly environment. I really hope this is not the type of people Safeway believes in, because we've shopped at the store every week for years and it generally has never let us down. It ruined the rest of our shopping experience, and was almost shocking even, and I truly wish someone at Safeway reads this so they are aware of the situation. read more

Ok...this is getting insane here in Enumclaw, Washington. I picked up a foldable box used to carry groceries out from the store. The security clerk helping others at the self-checkout lanes is watching everyone including me. As I am walking out, that clerk starts yelling at me if I paid for my groceries or not. I told her yes, but to stop me after you just watch me pay for the products with a credit card, is too much of an ASS HOLE! I get you are doing your job, but seriously! You stood behind me and watch me use a credit card to pay for the products, and now you are asking me if I paid for the products. What motive would you have to call me out among the dozens of people doing self-checkout? Honestly the stupidity among Safeway employees is intoxicating. read more

Just visited for some food at the deli. Very disappointed by the service at the deli counter itself. The young man there could not possibly have cared less or put less effort into his job. He literally told me that he wasn't listening to what I said when I tried to clarify a part of an earlier comment. I'm more of a QFC guy, so I'll keep the review short. Produce, Deli, Seafood, and Wine sections are all sub-par. The big advantage it has going for it is a nice gas station that is rarely busy, so you can fill up the tank before heading up the mountain. read more

As far as Safeway's go, this is a pretty good one. It's very easy to stop at on our way to Crystal Mt to stock up the cabin. They stay pretty stocked, however before major holidays they tend to run out of things really quickly so I would suggest grabbing the necessaries before you stop here. This past Thanksgiving when we got hit with a snow storm in the city they ran out of eggs...kind of bad for a large grocery store. They also have a gas station so it makes it easy to grab our food and gas. read more

I've know this store and the employees for a long time, I worked here for almost two years and from that stand point I hate coming into this store, the staff now and the managers now and then are so rude to their staff, the courtesy clerks don't know how to do their job, they defy authority and don't even greet you or ask for help out. No staff really makes small talk or even seems to fake like their job. I don't understand how they don't have more complaints. I don't mind coming in for a few things but will not bulk shop it's ridiculously priced I l will rather go to winco. The floral department can be great if they are willing to dress up your bouquets and not be rude. Never received bad product from the store and is mostly clean. Hands down will go to Walmart or winco instead of here if possible though. read more

This Safeway has a convenient and relatively inexpensive refueling station in addition to the supermarket-- pretty much the last chance for gas and groceries if you're going into the mountains. Otherwise, its pretty standard. read more

I just read ALL the previous reviews. I cannot understand the one- and two-star ratings, nor the unpleasant comments about the employees and cashiers. I've lived in Enumclaw for 15 years, and have shopped here (by CHOICE) for the whole time. Yes, I've run into a couple of ugly employees, but both were gone within a month or two (one was fired, the other quit). The produce is VERY high quality, generally, as is the meat (I've found very few items past the pull dates). The butchers are friendly, and will cheerfully cut and trim your selections, or give you a special cut (I like my rib-eye steaks over an inch thick). This is one of the smaller Safeway stores, so they don't always have the variety you'll find in a bigger store, but it's still good. The prices are competitive, and if you insert your club-card or enter your phone number you can save a lot. If you use the "Just For U" online coupon program, you get a LOT more savings without having to carry and track a bunch of paper coupons. I've saved well over $2,000 in the past five years. Two of my favorite Safeway employees are now gone: "Gino" ran the Chinese food part of the deli for years, and was a good friend -- he was transferred to the Auburn store; Mike O. ran the florist stand until he retired earlier this year. I never saw either of them without getting a big smile and a friendly "hello!", even when I wasn't buying anything from them. They both worked non-stop, yet found time to greet me every time I came in. There is almost always parking available near the entrance, and the lot is almost never full to the point I have to search for a slot. Every checker asks me if I found everything I was looking for, and I seldom leave the store without getting a "have a great day!". I do NOT wear rose-colored glasses, I am giving you an honest view of my experience in this store for a long time. My only gripe was when Albertson's bought Safeway a few years back, and immediately jacked the prices up (example: a cherry-Danish went from 79 cents to $1.29, OVERNIGHT! -- that's absurd). All in all, my wife and I find this to be a great market, and we enjoy going there. read more

I wentbto Safeway yesterday and bought dinner there, few hours later I had been vomitting and had diarrhea all night. The doctor said it was food poisoning or contaminated. I will never buy food from Safeway again. I'd rather go to QFC or Whole foods. I also have been noticing that this particular Safeway is selling expired food. I called and complained to Apartment Manager and he said sorry and I could get anything free up.to $10. But its not worth your health, time and missing day at work. read more

I totally disagree with the first review. I moved here from Seattle, and in comparison, the produce is much better, but....what really makes this store stand out is the people. Granted, the employees are super friendly and go out of their way to help, but the shoppers are also courteous, friendly and considerate -- a HUGE change from Seattle. I will shop at this store pretty much exclusively for groceries for at least the next decade unless something catastrophic happens. Also, as far as prices, you can get good deals on sale items pretty regularly. If you don't have the Safeway card, it would be pretty pricey. read more

this location in Enumclaw is terrible. over the past 3 years we have watched it become so bad! the clerks have no desire to be there! we have heard clerks talk about wanting to work elsewhere, even a seasoned clerk who should know better will often put items in a bag that obviously will smash, but he does not care! today the lady in the deli was like a zombie...it took her forever to fix a rice bowl and then I had to wait for her to finish her conversation with a friend of hers so I could ask where the cups were located. she acted as if I was such an inconvenience to her! I use to go to the pharmacy at Safeway but stopped because of Tim. He was the one running it. I just started going back when I noticed he was no longer their. They are so friendly and helpful now. Kim is the best. She goes out of her way to help you and never leaves you standing around. She actually makes it look like she enjoys her job. I wish more places had people like her. read more

I have shopped here for years, off and on. Today was the last day I will give this store my money. I am calling the store manager to also complain. I stopped in today to do a light shop for dinner. My last item to pick up was a package of red meat -my cart was half full otherwise I would have walked out. There were two butchers who were fighting on the floor right by the meat I wanted. Their argument seemed to be about how to cut the meat before packaging it and what the manager had told one vs another. This was all happening right where the meat I wanted was. As I tried to look for my cut of meat, they never once stopped their discussion to offer to move or if I needed help. Finally I asked them if I could cut between them because I think the beef I needed was right where they are. All they did was move aside and continue their argument. Not even a sorry or again asking if I need help. I thought by my actions it gave a clue that I may need some help, obviously not or they did not care. Hopelessly unprofessional. This is not the first time I have encountered an unprofessional attidude- I am sorry you hate your job or you don't like the way the union tells you to do something or you hate the store management. Keep those conversations in the back of house, not on the floor. Paid for my groceries, got in my car and drove to QFC where they got my $45. Probably not a big loss for this Safeway but on the average I spend $200 a week at the store....I like to cook. Over time it adds up. To the consumer, employee's represent the company they work for no matter how big or small they are. To me, these two butchers represent a very unprofessional business that does not deserve my money. read more
