OK this is a brand new store. It super clean, well lit & has a great layout. I'm not used to the layout yet but its easy to find what I'm looking. The produce section is large & has a nice selection of fresh produce. Looks fresher & better than most Safeway's I've been in. The meat department is relatively large. This makes it easy to find what you want & maneuver around other shoppers. I haven't talked with a butcher but that'll be soon (its jerky making time). The only real drawback is it's still Safeway. Meaning make sure you check the expiration dates! Tonight I found several items past their use by date. I don't know why but over the last couple years I've found expired food on their shelves & refrigerators. Meat & other foods a week + expired. I know those dates are a guide but still certain things should be pulled (like meat). I gotta take a star away for leaving items out after the use by date came & went. Especially stuff that really does have a limited life span. read more

I had an excellent customer service experience with Carla last week. I realized after looking at my receipt that there were two discounts shown in the mobile app that I didn't receive. Carla patiently helped me and promptly refunded the difference for both items. Thank you, Carla! read more

For the first time, I left items on the self-check till and walked out. I'm sure I pissed off someone at the Cupertino Safeway. I've used self-checks for years. When they work, they work. But when they don't, 85% of the time you have to wait for someone to re-code something before you can proceed further. Doesn't that defeat the purpose? I read an item that stated that 20% of the time, people have just taken things when they don't scan, after the frustration of not getting assistance after some amount of wait time. I can see that happening. I've made the joke that the best thing you can buy at these machines is a hammer (especially at Home Depot). I know, it's a mean thing to do-leaving my purchases on the machine. But seriously, the real reason stores put in self-checks is to reduce personnel costs. Your food costs still include the costs of staffing the store, but, you are doing the work of the cashier. Whose convenience is the self-check system, in reality? The real-person cashier line was long. Someone was trying to pay with some scrip note or EBT, and it was obvious that there was a problem with accepting the currency from Mars. I'm not going to hazard a guess. We were called by the self-check person to use her section. Getting back to the narrative, purchase items were morning pastries, flowers, and a 6-pack of diet soda. Nothing was at the right price. I was told that I picked up the "wrong" flowers-they were not on sale (no signage or pricing for this item in the floral area, so I took my best guess). The attendant was going to help me, but she was interrupted by another problem, and walked off, telling me she would be back. I was going to wait for her return, then Dave said, "Let's go." So, we did. I think I'm starting a trend for myself. When self-check is yecch, leave the dreck. What the heck. read more

Admittedly, it is my fault for continuing to use delivery service after multiple poor experiences. As a full time mother, employee, and student, I need the help. Almost every order I have placed has been late or been missing items. One order last month was 2 hours late. The order I placed last night was missing 16 items, yes- 16. The Door Dash delivery driver didn't even have a proper item list on her delivery instructions. Not to mention that when I pulled my frozen pizza out of the bag it folded over it was so melted. I had to discard my eggs, milk, 3 small frozen pizza's, and some ground turkey because they were no longer cold. I called and the call center rep set up a re-delivery for my missing 16 items. Window was today between 9am-11am. It's almost noon and no delivery. I've been on hold for almost 30 minutes as I sit hostage in my home waiting on a missing driver. At this point a redelivery and refund on ruined items is not nearly enough to make up for my wasted time and aggravation. A total of 1.25 hours on a phone hold trying to get this resolved so far between last night and today... The store is no better. Staff looks overworked, and there are never enough people checking out customers. I feel bad for the employees, and for myself that the Cupertino/Homestead location is my nearest store. From now on I will switch to Amazon delivery or drive to Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. This is just sad. The local residents deserve better. Someone please step in and properly manage this location. Don't offer grocery delivery if you can't handle the service. How did you lose 16 items? read more

This new Safeway will be having their grand opening on Friday May 2nd! Whoo hoo, can't wait since it's around the corner from me. Definitely better than the store that was here previously, and a better newer upgrade than Hollenbeck's location! read more

Safeway - Opening soon - Grocery Near Me - Cupertino, California

The new hot to trot Safeway. It is rather lovely. Outside they have fountains flowing with water. Inside is a Starbucks and deli. Bathrooms are located in the front, in case you have to go? There isn't much else to say, it's a grocery store. They do have a few self check out systems. read more

No line at checkout, but it took the checker, with some help from her supervisor, to ring up eight 6-packs of Diet Coke that were on a rain check for $2.50 per 6-pack, 20 minutes to figure out how to get the correct price into the register, and in the end, she still wasn't correct. She never did apologize to the line for her delay or offer to send them to another line. Prices at Safeway are already extremely high except of specials, and there's usually not enough product for us to buy the amount we wish and need to get a rain check to make good the price later. Because the rain check is nothing but a hand-written form, the point-of-sale system has no was to expedite you through. Each and every rain check has to be calculated by hand and each piece has to be adjusted manually, one by one, before the correct amount can be determined, the payment collected and the customer on their way. This is painful for the customer, the customers in line and the checker who often has no idea how to handle this transaction. Safeway is deeply in remission for not automating this at the cash register upon issuing the rain check, generating a code to be scanned when using the rain check and automatically issuing the correct price with a single scan. Shame on Safeway for such poor performance. read more

Bad customer service, when there is any employee around to provide any. For example, the late night Self-Checkout young female employee was literally stalking the machines and the aisle where customers were lining up to make sure that no one cut in line, even when there was no line. Once I was told that I was cutting in line even though I was at the front of the line. Another time the same young female employee stalked me and double checked the line as I walked toward one of the self checkout counters from the side even though there was no one in line (it was close to 9:30pm). Being stalked by an overzealous, undertrained employee while trying to pay for your grocery after a long day at work was not a pleasant experience. When I decided to return my purchases because of the unpleasant Self Checkout experience, the Customer Service manager(?) made me wait while she went into the enclosed office, telling me that someone would be with me shortly. After a few more minutes, when no one else came to help, she came back out to process my return. When I complained of my experience being stalked and made to wait, she did offer a $25 gift card but by then I had had enough. Why would I want to come back when there are other options with at least 3 other Safeway, 2 Trader Joe's, and 1 Whole Foods within a 2-mile radius to choose from. It is really too bad because the store is new and I was looking forward to making it my regular Safeway store. read more

Safeway is a reasonable grocery store. The design of this new store is quite nice but has one major problem that is causing me to use other stores -- cell phones do not work inside the store and their internal WiFi system is very flaky -- does not work much of the time. So inside the store it is almost impossible to use the SafeWay app to get coupons and other discounts that are advertised on the shelves. 12/26/14: Updated review from 1 star to 3 star. They have mostly fixed their internal WiFi (although you must log into it anew each time in a web browser on your phone before you use the Safeway app). Cell service is still very poor in the store so hard to call home about last minute needs, etc. Prices, food quality, and selection are ok. read more

Finally it's open! This is a very convenient location. Whole foods is nearby but doesn't have some things Safeway carries & vice versa so I'm glad that both are literally like a block away. I stayed away from this location for a couple days because I knew it would be crowded, which it kinda was when I went it. The growing variety of organic & gluten free foods is a nice improvement at this location. The split in half rows are nice too so you don't have to walk down an entire aisle or turn around & go around. The employees are very knowledgable where everything is too. I needed power energy bars & based on that the employee took me to one of the two locations in the store. The other location is for breakfast bars & snacks while the one he took me to is for working out. I'm glad he knew what I was looking for right away & walked me over to the area instead of pointing "over there". Overall I really like this location & there's a Starbucks inside too. There seems to be an abundance of extra space in this store in particular. For example the bbq sauces are a little excessive as to how much are on the shelves. Everything in the store has a lot of one thing but I guess the more the merrier! The only down side is the cashiers seemed to be new or just slow? Idk but other than the slowness while checking out this Safeway is pretty cool. read more

the worst customer service and the one in charge of closing. They are Naomi, she is an Asian woman who asked for help in self checkout and she didn't care, she was playing with her personal phone. I am a customer of this store and it is always the same. read more

One of the best safeways in the area! I love there larger variety of Asian food products, it makes it very convenient to pick up a few things instead of having to go to a few stores. Their hot food selection and the sushi selections are always packed with fresh food!! Never disappointed when I come here and the lines are generally not too long so you can get in and out easily, especially if you use self check out. Their Starbucks "lounge" area is also slightly larger and a much nicer set up that other stores in the area as well. This is my new go to Safeway!! read more

I have been shopping in this branch a lot, and today received a very rude service by the cashier Curt. I didn't know that they now have this rule of not placing items on the moving cashier line before the previous customer finished paying and naively tried to place some items there. I was not even close to any other customers and the moving line to was already completely empty. Curt raised his voice and started very rudely talking to me as if I am some type of a criminal breaking a federal law. It was heard by all the customers in the line before and after me and was frankly humiliating. I understand that you guys are implementing new COVID related rules every few days, but screaming at customers for not knowing these is unacceptable in any reasonable situation. I am very disappointed. read more

This Safeway is amazing and on par/better than the other ones around Santa Clara County in my opinion for several reasons. First off is the prime location. It's situated right off the 280 freeway and so for those who are needing to grocery shop after or before work, this is the best place to do it. Parking is pretty easy depending on how far you want to walk and at what time of day. I usually go after work around 430/5 and there's usually plenty of spots. Second, this place is 24 hours. FOREAL? That's already +5 stars already. In all seriousness, it's great when you need something late at night and the other Safeways are closed or your favorite Trader Joes isn't open late enough. Third, the grocery store has a good layout. It's easily navigable for first time shoppers here. Signs are pretty helpful, everything is within reach, and no items are in awkward locations or shelves. The one bad thing about this Safeway is that the surrounding area gets lots of traffic. This is due to the freeway next door as well as the number of people coming in and out of the lot. Also, it's a pain getting out onto Homestead sometimes because of the incessant stream of traffic. Tl;dr my favorite Safeway. The only thing that's bad is the traffic. But that's the peninsula for you. Shop well and prosper folks, read more

As you can see I do not review a lot, but I count on reviews for places to eat. I am use to consistency when it comes to the deli at all Safeway/Vons throughout the state as I travel for a living. With that said this is by far the worst deli I have ever been to, not just Safeway. Customer service is nonexistent the people behind the counter were not only rude but couldn't even make the sandwich that is a signature sandwich correctly and when I brought it back to ask about the difference they were so rude I just took what I got and left. I will never visit a Safeway in this area again as there are more options available to get a sandwich (just seemed convenient and usually reliable). That said I would steer clear of this locations deli department. Wish I could give zero stars!!! read more

This rating is specifically for ordering cakes from their bakery. I ordered a sheet cake for pick up the next morning at 10:30AM. I came to pick it up at 10:50, and it still wasn't done. Not only that, but the lady who was working on it came out and asked me what exact design and colors on the design I wanted. When I gave her a basic idea (flowers and hearts), she didn't know what to do, and wanted more specifics. When I then showed her a photo of a specific design, she said, "Oh Safeway does more simple stuff." And she still didn't know what to do. Uhm. Ok. Isn't it your job to come up with a design for the cake? I don't have experience making cakes. This is why I'm paying you to do it and you get to have creative freedom with it. I'm extremely disappointed and do not recommend going to this Safeway for cakes. read more

Terrible customer service from the manager(Harold) that rung me up. Not honoring prices that are posted where products are placed. Someone in his position that is representing Safeway should be better trained . Never going back there. Skip this location. He was rude on top of it all. read more

I have recently moved in right across the street of this Safeway on Homestead and De Anza in Cupertino. It was the first store I visited in the area, and it is still the place my wife and I go for our groceries. The selection is good at this store. The prices are good too. Especially the club prices. And there is always something on sale in every type of product. If you shop wisely, you can actually save a lot of money at Safeway. And the club member card is just a normal card, not a credit card like in some other stores. We have now been to the local Target, CVS and Whole Foods that are all in the direct neighbourhood. But we keep going back to Safeway! read more

This Safeway store is absolutely terrible. The management does not schedule enough cashiers during peak times and most often there is only 2 cashiers for the whole store. We ended up waiting in line for 20 mins! Management needs to do better in scheduling for peak times. There is absolutely no excuse for this type of service. On top of that management was not around to help the cashiers. MANAGEMENT needs to do better! This is unacceptable. Take care of your customers read more

Large Safeway that carries asian snacks in the front near the deli with teas as well as a small section for asian dumplings. It was well thought out and also has a cute cheese section. Stopped by for the grand opening today. This store is an excellent upgrade over the the dingy old location down Homestead. Similar to the new store on El Camino and at San Antonio Center. Employees were pretty friendly for the most part and the store was well stocked. Open 24 hours for your shopping convenience! Parking is already a little tight, and the revamped center isn't even completed yet (1-2 more anchor stores and a bunch of smaller units). read more

Had a coupon for free Arrowhead sparkling water. Was surprised when I found it at Safeway, so I put some in my cart. Checked out, saw that the checker was having problems with the coupon, but was pre-occupied by other things going on (putting groceries in bag, making sure other coupons were applied with Safeway card, etc...) When I got home, I realized that the coupon never did scan correctly and I was charged for the product. Immediately called, and they said to come back and they would take care of it. Problem is, they are not very close to my home (happened to be along the path I was taking that day). Finally passed by the store again. Went to customer service. Explained my story and they confirmed that the coupon didn't scan properly (no kidding, I was charged for the free product). They wouldn't refund my money and let me keep the product, they would only refund my money. So while I have my money back, I don't have the free coupon anymore and won't be trying the product either. Won't be going to this Safeway or any other for a while. They are really too expensive, and you have to spend all your time adding coupons to your card to make sure you don't miss any specials. Fortunately, Sprouts, Costco, and several Asian supermarkets are closer than the nearest Safeway to me. read more

Great location but untrained associates. They refused to take a carton of milk with a receipt even though the milk was stinking. This is ridiculous considering the product was bought at this store. Terrible customer service. Twice in the last month, I have had bad service. First time I asked a manager to have someone check to see if an item I needed was available in the back because the shelf was empty. After calling for a clerk to come and no one came, I asked if he could check. He said he couldn't leave where he was and was not apologetic. They next time I wanted to ask a manager a question, but was told there was no manager there. The worst situation was when an elderly, frail neighbor had her purse stolen in the store and when asked to call the police she was told they didn't have the number and told her to call. (Her phone was in her stolen purse). They were completely not unhelpful in a terrible circumstance. I only shop there because I have a gift card. Will not again when it has been spent. Too bad because the store is very convenient. read more

Judy, a cashier, is EXTREMELY rude. She did not acknowledge us during the entire checkout process, except at the end of our transaction when she rudely asked if one of our bags was ours or theirs (implying we were trying to take a bag without paying for it). Our total was over $50, why would we steal a ~$2 bag?! Her tone and demeanor were uncalled for. She did not give us our Monopoly playing pieces either. I pray for Judy to find joy in her life. I live right across the street and this Safeway is so nice and clean! I always come here every weekend and I love it! Everyone here is so nice and helpful. The Starbucks manager has to be the nicest lady on planet earth. Only person that is of concern is the bigger lady that works in the Meat/ Sandwich Department. Anyways I continue to order a simple drink nothing fancy just a drink and she continues to say that she doesn't know how to make it and therefore I couldn't get that. My first and last time at this location!! A Safeway shopper for over 40 years. I get in one of the only 2 lines open and ask what I think was a manage if there were more checkers he said "Yes" and paged, in the mean time our cashier just up and leaves us standing there for at least 5 min I heard the manger page again for a cashier. I can't switch lines because it became very long because guess what? No other cashiers came to help!!. When I told Michelle this was my first and last time instead of apologizing witch anyone in customer service should know (common sense) she says Mamm all stores will be like this for the holidays!! ........Really? I visited the Chinese takeout food place at Safeway yesterday. I was so disappointed in both the service and the food. I ordered two rice bowls. There was hardly any of the entree that I ordered, mostly just rice. Just the top covered with entree. I asked the guy to add a little more entree and he did not understand me. It was very difficult communicating with him in general. I gave up, apologized to my poor starving husband that there wasn't that much except rice. I also ordered a small noodle which he gave me plenty of. Half of the entree trays were empty and I asked the guy. He didn't understand at first and I asked again and he went to check with his manger who never said one word. I think it would be good if their communication skills or language skills were better. read more

Never going back. Am used to the insanely long lines for non-self service checkout, and the LONG lines for self-service checkout, with at least 2 of the machines always being out of service. Saturday night around 8pm - 2 checkers with about 5 people in each line. Remember when they would call a cashier if line was more than 3 people? I spent about 8 minutes at self-service checkout as I bought a lot of produce, Went to swipe card, and had the self-service attendant inform me, in the most blase of terms, that register takes only cash. No sign on said register, no Green light, and certainly there was no attempt on her part to alert me to this issue while I was scanning things. She said "there is a bag over machine", which there was not, and the light was green, not red. God forbid she write a note on said bag saying "Cash Only". This lady has been at the Safeway a LOONG time, and used to be one of the highlights of going to the store. She, along with most staff, seems disinterested and tired. She made no attempt to apologize, to show me to another register, she just moved to the next irate customer, until I asked her what about me. Asked her to call supervisor who showed up and whose first comment was "Huh? What is wrong?" After hearing my situation she said - you'll need to go to another register and re-ring everything up again. No apology, no better solution, no acknowledgement of my wasted time, and no commitment to make sure this didn't happen to the next person. Makes me remember when I was buying chicken from the deli counter, and told the attendant that I would like 4 fried chicken breasts. She had some sort of issue where she floated the tongs over a piece about 20 times (SLLOOOWWW) and then put in box. I noticed she was looking for a breast, could not find one, and put a thigh in the box! I called her on it (as the price difference is big and I asked for white meat for reason). She admitted she did it and the confessed they only had 1 breast available. Bizarre. Bottom line - self-service lines are LABOR SAVING devices for Safeway. I am happy to help, if they do their part, and the equipment works. Given the absolutely crappy, indifferent service, and the lack of customer focus - I am taking my money elsewhere. There is a new grocery store opening up on Mary & Fremont - they, along with Smart & Final, will be getting my business. read more

I am impressed by the space and the floral department which is always beautiful. But my last visit was tainted by the use of only one electric cart.
