On my way home I stopped to grab a few items to make food for the week. I tried to find a place where I didn't have to get too far off the highway. I found a plaza and made my way here. I was gearing up to make a cheesecake but also wanted to make a few things as meal prep for the week. It was interesting coming here on a Sunday, especially since there was a man outside the entrance giving a sermon. Made it inside and grabbed myself a cart. I was able to find a lot of what I needed, but I had to deal with people that were just not caring that they were ambling through the store and standing in front of areas where you need to grab an item. Then you have to be mindful of the ones that might mistakenly take your cart as you are grabbing items from the coolers. Then they ask you where Nutella is as if you work there. (I did say to him that I would check near the peanut butter, an aisle over, since I was just there and he ended up going the opposite way) Checking out was fairly simple. I went the self checkout route and prefer this. I was able to get through this part rather quickly. Made my way outside past the sermon again and was on my way. read more

Store is clean, most of the cashiers are nice some can be a little rude. There's not always people walking around to get help from-so that's a little annoying when you're looking for something. The flower shop is pricey but beautiful-they also have balloons. I've never had a problem with my food or quality. Some times they're out of arugula-i wish it was more consistent. It's gotten better since I moved here 5 years ago. For awhile there were issues with the carts and one of the entrances being closed but last time I went there was no issues. I use the app but sometimes the deals can be tricky. There's lots of stores nearby. The hours are late and early so that's nice. The area doesn't seem the "nicest" but I've never had an issue. read more

I've been using their delivery service and they have been messing up my last few orders. Some of my items have been missing. The food that I did get about 80% accurate. I have the app with Delivery Pass so delivery is free. I wont be renewing if this keeps up. I dont always have time to walk around but I guess I'll find time. Doing it myself is best. You get there and try and find a cart.....where the carts should be! None! You try and find a basket at one of the isles. None. You literally have to leave the store and go find a random cart in the parking lot. I get to my car and review my recipe, half the items that I was support to get on sale.....I got nothing. If you shop @ the Safeway in Clinton MD, check the dates!!! I purchased several items for clam chowder on 8/6/24 & realized afterwards that 3 of the items had already expired! The celery was slippery so, I checked the date... Expired July 24th. The clams... Expired November 2023. (refer to pics) I could only imagine eating expired seafood! I used to shop here many years ago and due to the long lines and sometimes rude cashiers, I switched to Wegmans for the last 5-7 years. Lines there have become just as bad so I'm back to Safeway again. First trip a few months ago was great. Line was short and several really nice cashiers. Produce is much better and the employees are much friendlier and helpful especially in the produce department. Yesterday's trip was not good. At 2:30 in the afternoon, lines were ridiculously long with 2 cashiers open. They eventually opened a couple more but just not fast enough. When there are 8 people ahead of you with full carts and 3 behind you, management needs to be aware and be more proactive!! read more

This grocery store needs new management or to be shut down entirely. The shelves are often empty - why isn't food being restocked in a timely manner? Why aren't enough crates of popular items being ordered to keep up with demand? The lines are terribly long and customer service is lacking. If I could put zero stars, I would because 1 star is too good for this funky unclean store. If you visited that old Giant that closed down in Clinton or old enough to remember those old A&P stores, where garbage odor hit you at the door, you know exactly the what I'm talking about. And to top that off, they're always out of stuff, have out dated foods sitting on shelves and the lines stay long no matter when you go there. The parking lot is always littered with trash and carts are left wherever. Don't shop there, go to Aldi or Shopper's Food Ware House which are much cleaner and better stocked. I order online because of my immobility. More than usual thery are always out of stock for the items I want and I don't find out untill they deliver WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT, WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY. Whren I ordered the item was there (supposedly) I tried the delivery PASS too costly for the number of times I order. SO I SWITCHED TO AMAZON FRESH. Their inventory system is more accurated as to what's in stock. Though I agree with some of the points made about this Safeway, I think the one-star​ reviews are a bit harsh. This Safeway has great produce; I come here weekly for their kale and cucumbers, and I am satisfied every time​. I do see some opportunities for this location to grow, however. Starting with the excessively long lines regardless the day and time: this location is so content with only having two lines open, and the lines move exceptionally slow. I have only seen three lines open max in this location. Are they understaffed? Are the other lines broken? I am not sure. Furthermore, they can have ​more of a consistent shipping practice for the juices because it is a challenge getting the juice you came for because​ of a "shipment delay." ​ Despite all of this, I do appreciate this location. They keep it reasonably clean and stocked. Thus, don't let the one-star​ reviews deter you from visiting. read more

This store remodeled and down sized foods they used to stock. The store still stinks like rotten fish that greets at the door even with 2 masks on. Lines are still long and try as they may, fresh fruit and veggies often look like they're seen better days. And the bathrooms take funk to a new level of disgust. Close it down!! I try my best to avoid this Safeway. Rude employees and shoppers. It's dirty, smells like rotten fish and the lines are always at least 10 people long. They had "fresh cut fruit" from 6 days ago out on the shelf, and Safeway is the only place I've ever gotten expired meat, of course the label didn't say it was expired, but the smell sure did. The cashier wouldn't even speak to me when I tried to make friendly conversation after the customer before me was so rude to her. This is a reasonable Safeway location. It is generally stocked during the busy hours/days of the week. I've been coming here for years and many of the same staff still work here. They are usually friendly and helpful. Occasionally you can catch some good deals, but my regular experience is that Safeway is a bit more expensive than Giant and Shoppers. I always have issues with the lines here. The lines are always long. Always, but I always assume that's any grocery store. The most dissapointing thing about this Safeway location is that they do have a self-check out section, but it never seems to be open during the busiest times of the day. I stopped in to pick up a few gift cards the day after Christmas and only four registers were open including one 15 items or less line. I only had two gift cards, but I got stuck behind someone with a full cart. Not really the store's problem, but it would have helped if the self check out was open that day. Despite the issues I have with long lines, I'll still continue to come to this Safeway. It is close to my home and I always find everything I need. read more

This place has huge lines, and there were no shopping carts available! There were some lucky 20 or less people who had shopping carts but I'm sure they got them from other people who were done using them. And because the checkout lines are ALL full of huge lines, this leads to a bunch of isles being blocked for others to walk by comfortably. I hope this place changes, I don't want to be that person that says "I'll never shop here again" but honestly im making it down on my google maps as "never shop here ever!" read more

This is a grocery store on my way home from work. I only stop when absolutely necessary because there are usually only 2-3 lanes open at 6pm, so ALL of the checkout lines are backed up into the isles. Items are not restocked throughout the day, so at 6pm, your choices are bare minimum, especially on sale or popular items. Recently, a woman in line behind me complained a great deal because she was exchanging an item that she had purchased that was expired. This had happened to me before, but I tossed it and moved on. Mine were a few yogurts, hers were frozen products. Either way, you need to check dates before you buy. This store is in a premium spot...I just don't get why they aren't staffed during rush hour! This is by far the worst shopping experience I've had in this forgettable part of western MD. It's a supermarket; it stocks produce, dairy and dry grocery. But it is afflicted with a terrible, pervasive sense of disinterest, a lack of urgency, and a parody - nay, a caricature of passive customer service. The level of attitude and disinterest was palpable during today's visit. I rather like to think that it being a national holiday the staff felt collectively at ease to overly relax their expected standards and just waddle along, plodding through their shifts. I kinda thought that maybe this was just another day in Clinton. Today's visit was awful. Children running around being disobedient for the "adults" (?) with them, screaming and messing with stuff on shelves; men and women stalking the aisles with sunglasses indoors pretending to feature in some absurd hip hop video showcasing their "vida loca"; and worse of all - the amount of swearing by both customers and employees!! I'm not at all a saint, but feck me there's swearing and there's the excessive gratuitous and purposeful avoidance of using normal grammar to express yourself. It was so obnoxious, irritating and crass that it made the place too obnoxious for me. It made me cut my quick stop even shorter than it was meant to be; got my water and I was lucky there was no queue for me to pay quickly and get out. I really hope it's not like that everyday there - otherwise it would be a miserable place to have to endure. There was one employee that seemed nice and I hope for her sake she's not the only one. I really do hope this was a random one-off experience as it was really...obnoxious, that's the main adjective that comes to mind. It really made the place seem tired and unpleasant. If you have time and love bad customer service this is your store. Longest lines and the management does not care about the customer. They have very little TRAINED CASHIERS and will not hire more. Produce is not current and fresh. Dreamfields pasta has no macaroni shells all other SAFEWAY STORES are fully stocked. DELI area has servers that rather talk to their old friends and play around that service customers. No training IN meat cutting or cheese cutting. Absolutely the worst safeway! I live very close to here and though it would be very convenient to have a grocery store so close and accessible. Oh was I wrong. There are several instances of problems I have had in this safeway, more then a yelp review can explain. Lets just say as an overall review that the customer service is horrible, the lines are always ling because they have at most 3 registers open at any given time (and of coarse the cashiers are absolutely not in a rush), the entire place smells, and expired food is not hard to find (I have to check dates on everything I buy). What kind of grocery store doesnt clear expired food off of the shelves. The floral area is the best thing about this place but, god forbid you ask a florist for any kind of something extra. Most rude people I have ever met! GO TO "SHOPPERS" 2 MINUTES AWAY! Its clean, cheaper, and has excellent customer service. Please never visit this safeway! It is time to put them out of business!!!! I live in the area, and the service at most of the shops in this area is horrible. I actually go to the neighboring town and the shops are almost walking distance from my home due to the lack of organization, lack of staffing, and the cleanliness is always lacking. I really think the shops need to rethink their organization because long lines, lack of cleanliness and organization seems to happen in "URBAN" areas, not the areas where the masses considered more wealthy. This is ridiculous no matter what time you come in here the lines are around the corner it's truly frustrating to deal with this. You can barely find a manger and then you have some cashiers mad that you had to come to the store and you're in their line. I've been living in Clinton for 5 years and always go to this Safeway when I need some quick groceries and out of all my times of going, never once have I encountered good customer service. I swear they don't care about their customers.. They always have like two cashiers with endless lines and no one doing anything to help them go down. Even after taking out self checkout. I always try to make sure I have all my groceries for the week just so I don't have to go to this trashy place. Nothing against Safeway though, other safeways have really friendly staff. Regularly understaffed. Two registers open and one self-checkout; ten plus people in each line. I've seen this on more than one occasion. At 4;30 pm when folk are headed home from work and want to grab something quick for dinner, there are only two lanes open and one of them is run by the slowest checker in creation. This past Monday will make it the third time I've come to the store and there was no milk. I am writing a review because not only was there no milk but when I asked an employee why there was a milk shortage, he looked away from me and dismissively stated that he didn't know. I could have gone to the manager but I knew I would still be leaving the store without the milk I came there to purchase in the first place. I really hate living in P.G County.
