Save your time and energy and give Safeway a call first! Because of this, I didn't get a bunch of annoying texts every other day asking me if I was still looking to move my car. I had the information I needed within two emails and one phone call. Done. I used Mike for transporting a salvage auction SUV from Arkansas to Florida in June 2024, about a 12 hour drive. Great guy, very helpful. He was able to schedule transport within the 3 day window for pickup so I didn't have to pay extra fees. His cost was reasonable and the transport company he used did a good job. They picked the truck up the day after I paid, and had it to me the following day. The problems here were not related to Safeway in any way. The truck was sold as running and driving, but upon arrival could do neither due to a flat tire and non-starting (this lack of transparency did not increase the Safeway cost BTW). The driver was very patient & helpful, as I had to use a portable inflator and found the battery cable was loose. It ran and drove after that. 5 stars, and would use Safeway again next time. read more

I was trying to ship a vehicle that I purchased and was having issues, it felt like the run around from multiple companies. I reached out to Safeway to see if they could help. Mike was great! He could tell I was frustrated, looking for a straightforward no BS answer and that's what he gave me. He quoted me a price, no lines or BS and that was the price he was able to get it done for. Everyone else was walking up the price and couldn't get the trip booked, all sorts of excuses. Here's the killer, he wasn't the most expansive and whether by luck or skill he got the truck shipped the same day we spoke. Two other brokers had the order for 2 weeks and couldn't get it done, but these guys pulled it off. So, we set this up on a Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon and Mike tells me it will be to you Friday. Now I am expecting that to be a week and 3 days away, but nope Mike tells me no this week. Now I don't believe him, but the truck shows up on Saturday the same week. Ok its technically a day late from what he told me, but there was a snowstorm in the area where it came out and it's a full week ahead of my expectation, plus the driver called to tell me they were delayed, which I fully understand. You have to expect delays when you ship a vehicle due to weather, breakdowns, accidents on the road and other unforeseen issues. Mike called me and explained the whole process to me and what to expect as the process of transporting my wifes Vette moved along towards delivery. All communication via phone email and text were answered in a timely manner. Our car was picked up in widow and delivered in the window of time I was told it would be. The car was secured properly and arrived without any issues or damage. The driver was also very professional and kept me informed and gave me plenty of heads-up text to be ready for our delivery to end things on a good note. Being realistic with your time line and not waiting to the last minute to ship helps alot in ending on a good note. It was my first time buying a car totally online over Facebook Marketplace. I am based in St. Louis, Missouri and the car I was buying was in Chicago, IL about 4/4.5 hours away. I figured out the details for purchase and payment with the seller of the vehicle and needed to get the car shipped to me as I did do not own a trailer - and it doesn't run and drive so could not drive it back home. Towing the car here myself using a Uhaul rental would cost me almost double of what Safeway Car Transport quoted me. I was very happy with the service. I spoke with Mike over the phone after getting an online quote from them. Read some reviews online about them and trusted my gut and went with Safeway Car Transport. They found someone to pickup my car within 1 day of putting my deposit down. Car was delivered the next day as promised by the trucker who picked up my vehicle. Every transaction went smoothly. In 2001 I had Mike with Safeway Car Transport ship my two cars from Ohio to Arizona. I had no issues whatsoever then so when it came time to ship one of those cars from Arizona to Tennessee at the end of May, I called him again. He took a $400 deposit from my daughter's bank account which I knew he'd do but unlike the first time Mike didn't give us a confirmation email with details about the pickup and drop off. I called him several times and he never give us a date for pickup- would text saying he had a pickup. I'd ask when and where, and he wouldn't reply. We were up against a deadline, so I contacted Nexus Auto Transport. They instantly gave us a time, date, place, and confirmation email. I told Mike to give me a refund because he forced me to go with another company. He texted back saying and I quote My driver told me I just confirmed it. You do not have a company picking up tomorrow as you told me. You actually double booked it now. Because he wouldn't give me a straight answer. The driver we used was with Fair and Fast Auto Transport based in Georgia, not his company Safeway in Michigan. I have asked several times since May 28 to refund the $400 and to date- June 17, he has not. I DO NOT recommend using Safeway. Instead, contact Nexus for your car shipping needs. read more

Had a car coming out of a dealership in Houston TX to Southern California. There was a delay due to the truck having an issue, Mike was on top of it keeping us updated. It all about the communication and Mike is on top of that. Great pricing too, he found a carrier for less that the dealership. The carrier did deliver the car dirty as it out in the elements for days I expected that. The dirt all washed off right away and looked great after a quick wash as the dealer detailed it before the pickup. Driver was super nice and had the car off the carrier before I even went outside. Part 2 He said he would pick up on a date and drop off on a date. He knew condition of car which is why it cost $500. He did not provide door to door service on dates and under the conditions he said he could. I dont want apologies. I want $125 refunded. Look at all the other Yelp or online complaints. Update #2: Vendor tried getting Yelp to remove my feedback, which now better explains the fact that he has few reviews, seemingly scrubbing feedback is something he does well with Yelp's help. To address specificity of the issue, when asked for a ship timeline on specific dates, and different windows in the dates, a terse reply was simply that it's not possible, and "you won't find anyone to do that", well, that was not true, I did! I did find a few vendors who did meet the timeline, and WERE CHEAPER, and polite in dealing with the customer. Generally speaking, the auto transfer market is not well organized, however, much of it is due to vendors like this (Mike) who are not willing to work on schedules, be organized, and be fair on pricing. They try to find opportunities that best suits them, as opposed to working for the customer to hit the most timelines they need, or costs that they need. Is this specific enough for Yelp?? Again, shipping and moving is based on timelines and schedules, this vendor is NOT able to sign up to the, like others/better organized companies do. And second, pricing is on the mid to high, there are more cost effective vendors. Update #1: Adding one star just because he reached out after seeing the low rating... I did end up going with another provider. Original: I just gave up on the quoting process, noncommittal and a bit of attitude in responding to questions. read more

I ended up paying 150$ more than quoted and stressed until the last moment my car won't be shipped prior to my departure. Regarding tracking the shipment, I got one delivery date from the driver and another one from the driver. Also, the driver requested to bring cash and at the moment of pick up he didn't want to take the 100$ bills claiming they are fake. I had to show him the receipt from the bank so he would believe me. This really made me upset, I mean I already gave them a down payment prior to shipping the car and my new address, where the car was actually delivered, how can I give them fake money? Sent email after email to try and get a HUMAN voice to return our calls. We no longer required his services and did not return our money. Then, I googled his name and well, you can see the numerous complaints, same story, takes the deposit and is hard to get ahold of. I was told I needed to send a deposit to hold my place for pick and I'd have to discuss a pick up date when it came closer to moving. THIS IS WHEN THINGS BECAME SHADY FOR ME AND SHOULD HAVE BEENA RED FLAG. I was told to call them about 3 months before me moving which I did in April. I was always sent to voicemail or the phone would just ring continuously. I tried emailing them as well and received no response back as well. I got a call maybe a month out from me moving saying I'd have to call the following week to schedule a pick up which again led to me calling multiple times with no answer. I went ahead and used another company who was more reliable, but I tried asking for my deposit back. They refused to issue my deposit and said it was too close to my pick up date (which was never set). Moral of the story is I was screwed out of a couple of hundreds and led on by crooks. read more

i spoke with "mike" to set up pickup and delivery of a vehicle after numerous calls to me he pressured me into giving him a deposit by 11/18/20 and told me it would be picked up in 3 days, and it would take 5-6 days to deliver. i gave the $150 deposit and then waited, waited, waited with "crickets from mike" called left a vm and sent a notice of cancellation as per his contract by registered, certified, return receipt requested. guess what, the address is a ups store, i called the ups store and a "richard" answered, i asked if safeway auto transport had box # 254 he abruptly answered "nope" i said "so safeway auto transport doesn't have a box there? he said "sounds familiar" then hung up. don"t waste your time and effort with these bozos get a legitimate company and also ups is part of the fraud. read more

I tried going through this company to get my vehicle shipped from CA to SC. I had used this exact company to ship my car out to CA, had no problems. I made a payment before my vehicle was picked up from CA, but there was a shortage in carriers leaving CA to bring my vehicle back to SC. In the end, this company was not the one to ship my vehicle due to the inability to find a carrier, but I have been waiting to get my refund back for over a month now. UPDATE #2: Throughout this entire fiasco Mike did not pick up any of my phone calls. During the incident I had multiple family members call with no response. Mike says that he was unaware of the incident. However, I do firmly believe that it's a game this company plays with their customers after they receive their deposit. Mike reached out to me AFTER I posted the review on Yelp. More of a way to pressure me to take the review off because obviously it reflects poor on his business. Not taking to account that his 2 and a half stars are not a result of my ONE review but multiple poor experiences from other customers. He also told me (Phone conversation) that in order to receive a call back I must leave a message. Funny because when I first called to inquire about his services I never left a voicemail but received a call back immediately. Funny how the service changes after they receive their deposit. Mike's e-mail and receipt also included that if the carrier does not arrive on time that I would be replace with a new one. That didn't happen. WHY? Mike doesn't pick up the phone. I was a little concerned over the other Yelp reviews here and I spoke with Mike on the phone. He said they ship about 200 cars/month, so 6 reviews is not an adequate sampling of his customers. I can't speak for the other reviews on here, but I am a real customer and I was very happy with the service. We shipped my 1957 BMW Isetta with Mike and Safeway. We actually had to cancel the first carrier as they wanted to use 2x12 ramps for the rear wheels since the wheelbase is different than the front wheels. Mike had transported an Isetta before and was familiar with the peculiarities of transporting them. I did not feel comfortable with the first carrier and Mike was more than helpful in getting a transport with a hydraulic lift for the same price. Super happy with the transport experience and felt like Mike handled my transport with a white glove service. read more

SCAM. Everything was nice and sunshine with this company to get my deposit. As soon as I gave them my $150 deposit, everything went downhill. Getting a hold of someone was impossible, and if I managed to after calling multiple times, they were always rude to me. It's not like I was rude to them on the onset, so I don't know why they gave me such a horrible experience. The carrier never showed up and was "Out of Office for some time" according to his office voice mail, so there was no communication from the carrier they chose either. The day of pick up came and went. The next day came and went and still no carrier nor any word from them. I called Safeway to cancel and get my deposit back and instead of being professional they hung up on me. I still have not gotten my $150 back for a service that was not provided. PLEASE DO NOT GO WITH THIS COMPANY! I should have listened to my moving consultant and picked a more reputable car shipping company that actually is legit and not a scam to get $150 for not providing a real carrier. My Mercedes was delivered with a cracked side view mirror, It was loaded on the carrier and the AMG air dam was scuffed and cracked resulting in the drivers front bumper and grill being loose. To top it off, somebody went through a third of a tank of premium fuel. Big Boss transport denied all of it and demanded payment. Mike said he would look into it and never got back with me. I am a good customer, payed cash and got screwed b y these people. Find another carrier. read more

In trying to move my car from New Jersey to Oregon, I quickly found out that the auto transport industry is a shady business. I came very close to signing with two other companies, but after reading reviews on Yelp and other sites, did not feel comfortable proceeding. Safeway, as another reviewer aptly put it, was a breath of fresh air. Mike was very knowledgeable and always easy to reach if I had questions. Though they were not the least expensive option (nor the most expensive), having that peace of mind was invaluable. After signing a contract with Safeway, I was contacted by the car carrier (Rapid Transport) before my delivery window, and the car was picked up promptly during the delivery window, and delivered without any problems. Though Safeway is only a contractor for the actual transport agency, I felt comfortable using them knowing that I could always get in touch with Mike should questions or concerns arise, and I would not hesitate to use Safeway again in the future! read more

Its been about almost 2 months and still have not even felt like anyone was going to fixed what was damaged during transport first the driver write on the transport slip . (car is n poor condition ) then marks right below that (unable to inspect due to darkness) 1. how do you know if the car is n poor condition if it was too dark to inspect. The damage. is on both side of my sunroof 2. how does the color of another car get on the roof of my unless there was another car/truck above it " (during transport)" . I can't sing praises enough for this company. I found out that my new job across the country wanted me to start about a week earlier than I had anticipated. I knew I would no longer be able to make the drive and would have to ship everything and fly out. I was super nervous to ship my car. I have a 2015 Honda CR-V. While I realize this is not a luxury car or anything, it's my first big girl purchase post college graduation, and I'm rather proud of it. I began researching a bunch of car shipping companies, and found horrible experiences from people from many different companies. Some people had their money stolen, others had their cars damaged. I accidentally stumbled upon Safeway Car Transport on Yelp and saw their great reviews and decided to give them a call. Mike was awesome!! He gave me a fair price, and didn't pressure me to put down a deposit until I was 100% sure I was going to use his company. The car was picked up a few days later to be shipped from Maryland to California. They told me it would take 7-10 days which was fine. Surprise! It showed up a day early! I expected it to be pretty dirty (the car is white) having just traveled 3,000 miles, but its actually still pretty clean! The best part of all, the driver actually drove the car to my front door because his truck couldn't fit up the small lane to my house. Literally door to door service. The entire process couldn't have gone smoother. Both Mike and the driver were very friendly and professional. I highly recommend this business and will use them in the future if ever needed. These people only want your money. I wish I went with another shipping company to avoid all the headache. They're cheaper than the others but very unprofessional. Once they get your money, good luck. If you can afford to go with someone else, do. FYI after paying the deposit & they collect your vehicle, they expect the remainder to be paid in cash or check which they leave out and expect you to read in the terms. After I had already told Mike how I'd be paying the remainder of the balance, he assured me that was acceptable and it wouldn't be a problem. On the day of my vehicle delivery (which also took a lot longer than they said- another problem in & of itself) I was told that I couldn't pay with my card & that my car would be put in storage. I had to threaten to report my car stolen for them to take me seriously. & even after that I was assessed an additional fee on top of my balance. Had it been made clear to me how they wanted the remainder of the balance, I would have more than had the funds in the form of their request. I was honestly better off going with someone else who may have seemed to be more pricy because at the end of the day I ended up paying another vendors cost anyways- AND A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Do NOT give Safeway Car Transport your deposit! I scheduled with Mike from Safeway to transport my car. Once they got the deposit, no one would answer the phone and my car was never picked up. My car was supposed to be picked up the week of August 11th and almost three weeks later, no transport and no communication from Safeway about my car. If you call the company they will sly dial you back so they do not have to talk to you in person.
