Only 5 registers total and only 1 or 2 open at a time during busy hours. It is half the size of a normal grocery store. Walmart in the same town has more choices and much better prices. read more

When I first moved to Cochise County over 15 years ago, I was the sort of person who looked down on Walmart and much preferred to do my shopping at a "real" supermarket like Safeway. Well, over the years Safeway has worked hard to convince me to shop primarily at Walmart, and these days that's what I do. They accomplished this by hiring employees who are unkind, unpleasant, and/or unhelpful (although, it is true, there are some FANTASTIC and KIND people working there, as well). They accomplished this by often not having their sale items available. When they are available, they are sometimes of poorer than average quality. In addition, even when an item is on sale it often can be found at Walmart at a lower price. They accomplished this by requiring a card to get the sale items, but the card does not always work properly. I have to check the receipt every time and then wait on line at the service area to get a refund. They accomplished this by not having enough employees to stock the fruit and vegetable area, so I often have to ask someone to look in the back for what I need. While some of the f & V area workers are more than willing to be helpful, others have let me know in no uncertain terms that they resent being interrupted. They have accomplished this by not training their employees to pack bags with the heavier items on the bottom and lighter items on the top. It is sad to me to write this as there really are some kind and generous people working at the Benson Safeway. However, a much higher percentage of the Walmart employees are kind and generous. I know because that's where I do the majority of my shopping now. read more

First time in a Safeway . Not impressed . We just got into the area and wanted to stock up for the house rental . Lots of water beer wine and groceries . No carts out front , nine in either . When I asked someone working there he kinda shrugged and said there were hand baskets . Terrific . I asked at the customer service . She looked at me like I was crazy for wondering why there were no carts for a supermarket swing through . I waited a few minutes . Did what we needed but we went on to Walmart too . For a small town this Safeway is well stocked with decent produce. Most employees are pretty good. HOWEVER, the bagger we had twice in a row needs to be trained. He puts canned goods on top of produce, and does not put all cold goods together. Now our produce is brusied. We arrange things on the belt for easier logical bagging. He then randomly shoves things in bags. PLEASE, TRAIN this bagger!!!! We will refuse him as a bagger from here on out. read more

I've been going to this Safeway for 20+ years, and I have never been recognized as a regular customer but once (in the pharmacy). People are cheerful enough, with a few exceptions, but unless you hang out at the local church or something, you don't really exist. You can tell who the employees recognize by the length of the conversation at the checkout line. It's not my imagination that they don't pay much attention to the stock. Almost without exception, when I find something that I really like, it's out of stock the next time. And it often disappears entirely from the shelves. I know that my tastes don't match up with their typical customer, but it's amazing how systematic it is. All that said, I usually get my groceries there because it's not Walmart. I'm switching my prescriptions to mail order because of a string of problems getting what I need. They are friendly and helpful, but when it's nearly a two hour round trip for me to pick up a prescription, it's irritating when there's a problem. Sometimes, it's not their fault, but they can't resolve issues by calling up another Safeway when they don't have an item. All in all, they are an asset to the community. The produce is fine, the meat sometimes has spectacularly good prices, and other stuff is adequate. I was afraid that they were going to go out of business when Walmart moved in, but they seem to be hanging in there. read more

The store is fine but there's one checker that will belittle and embarrass you. It happens to us . We had a rain check and boy did we get a dirty look from her. We felt like we were doing something wrong! Then they didn't have the strawberries that were on sale so the department manager told us to take 2- 16 oz packages. Same weight that was listed in the sale flyer. He told us to let the checker know and we did. She said she needed to call and verify. After talking with 2 managers she started to refer us as those people and yelled at us because we didn't have our phones. The customers behind us couldn't believe what was happening and the way we were being treated. I have to say the managers were great but stay away from Carol. Unless you want to be treated badly. read more

As I am 67 I try to limit my exposure to public places due to covid 19. I was a bit disconcerted when I was chatized by an employee for taking a cart "that hadn't been cleaned" from the cart storage area. I then was waited on by a deli worker who wore his mask down below his nose named Dakota according to his name tag. Its bad enough that I've seen workers on both Willcox and Benson without masks. But to be chastised and then see an employee not properly wearing a mask at the deli counter is aggravating. This says a lot about Safeway's attitude toward customers read more

Every member of the staff that I have met at this store is gracious and eager to help. The store is brightly lit, aisles only moderately cluttered, and produce varied and usually fresh. Occasionally the shelf item I prefer is unavailable for a couple of weeks, but that's unusual. I appreciate the opportunity to donate toward meals for Bensonites in need. My receipt reminds me how blessed I am and how my donation can help others. I also appreciate the talented Starbucks baristas and that the store now takes ApplePay! Thanks Safeway! read more

Well Benson sure seems like an out-of-the-way place to me. An Ink Spot on the freeway between Las Cruces and Tucson who knows what goodness lies. This Supermarket is clean beautiful spacious well stock and more. Beautiful produce and the Lovely Bakery area. What more could a local want , who knows. What more could a Traveller want - nothing. This store is one of the best examples of poor management in the area. It is amazing that at 3:30pm in a Wednesday that the the 3 open checkout lines have a line so long that people can't figure out how to get in in line....we are talking 10 plus to the line.....yet that is no one calling for help or additional lines opened. The Wal-Mart in town consistently had shorter lines if that gives you an idea of how poorly this place is run. With price matching and by far shorter lines....Safeway will no longer get my business.....I hate Wal-Mart but.not as much as a poorly run over priced Safeway. It's to bad Albertsons bought them out because now the lack of service and high prices are showing. read more

They reduced the amount of Insulin I get, they lied about my pain medication which pressed my Dr. and I into words (ended up with me loosing my Pain Medication!) And they almost always get some of my prescriptions wrong!!! Worse when they get caught they lie about it! Horrible Pharmacy! read more

Safeway carries very little organic produce. The worst part is the mix organic and non organic under a big a** sign that says organic. I would rather drive to Tucson than try to not be tricked by them. read more

Benson is super cool! Most people don't think so. I guess the people who live there lol. Visiting though and passing through is pretty awesome. It is like going back in time. Let me start out by saying that I hate Safeway. I am not a fan and only go when I have too. There are only two food stores in Benson. Safeway and Walmart. This one just happened to be closer so I went here. I was shocked that the staff was so nice. The area was super clean and orderly, It made me rethink my position on this establishment. I really liked the people and everyone was nice. I will come back when I go back to Benson. read more

This Safeway may be 'typical' but Safeway is part of Albertson's and Albertson's is WONDERFULL! Great prices, fresh produce and fish and meat and terrific employees! Can't say enough wonderful things about Albertson's and since they are part of Safeway it should be the same there! read more

Really she schooled at this store. The deli chicken tenders were so dry I could barley eat the middle. The he ends were dry and too crispy to eat. I love Safeways chicken tenders. I know it's the 4th but this was bad. I gave them 3 for the people, they were all very nice, store is clean, produce was nice, and I was able to locate everything I went in for. read more
