Most of the Safeway markets are almost the same. The best about this one is close to the campground we are when we are there on the Labor Day weekend. The store in front is the older style classic looking of the Safeway. It is outdated but still organized and clean. The key is I can found everything I needed in the store. The parking lot at this store is smaller than most of the Safeway markets I have shopped. Finding a parking space can be challenging sometimes! But the parking lot is clean and looks very safe to me.

A week after this incident I went back to Safeway to the customer service counter and spoke to a nice older lady who has always been nice to me whenever I come to this Safeway. I explained the situation to her and she ran the gift card through the customer service register for 25 cents and confirmed it worked just fine... I asked a male Safeway director who walked up to ask what was going on, to ask Joanna (the Safeway director who I had an issue with during the incident) if Joanna could call me and apologize. No call was made to me. I also want to point out that corporate responding to my complaint was terrible. They kept saying the district manager would contact me, but they didn't contact me either. Seems like they just want to sweep it under the rug and pretend it didn't happen. I left a copy of my gift card printout that clearly says it was purchased from Bitrefil (Safeway gift card for $250) with my phone number written on it. I'm assuming Joanna just threw it into the trash. Thanks Safeway, and thanks corporate for no accountability. If corporate says the district manager will be reaching out to me but nobody reaches out, it makes me feel like corporate doesn't care.

The staff is extremely rude. The lines are long and there produce is rotten most of the time. Don't shop here.

The produce is fresh here. Probably because Greg rotates it right! They even have spirulina.

There are local brews and wines among the adult beverages. They make very good sandwiches. In fact, this is the only store that has some hard to find sandwich breads. In all the years, I can't remember being upset with the quality. The store is always clean and customer service is very good.

Unfortunately, the butcher counter is a serious weak spot -- both in quality and service. On the craft side, the butchering is sloppy. The NY strip steaks are being cut from the nerve end of the loin, which any skilled butcher knows should be repurposed rather than sold as premium full strips. The pork chops have the same problem -- end cuts with that ragged, uneven "cap" where the muscle narrows are being sold right alongside uniform center-cut chops, at the same price, with no distinction made. These aren't nitpicky complaints; they're basic standards that a full-service butcher counter should meet. With one notable exception (there's one guy there who's actually great - tall, Caucasian, ~30 YOM), the service ranges from indifferent to actively rude. Expect to be ignored before anyone acknowledges you. If you order half a pound of ground beef, they'll grab two-thirds of a pound and start wrapping without asking, then get an attitude if you point it out. Ask for two pork chops and you might get one that's half the size of the other. Request specific pieces from the case and you'll be treated like you're being difficult. The biggest issue for me: they wrap chicken directly in butcher paper without a plastic bag first. I learned this the hard way when chicken juice leaked all over my refrigerator overnight. That's not just sloppy -- it's a food safety problem. I want to support this store, and I genuinely enjoy shopping there. But the butcher counter's combination of poor technique and poor service means I won't shop here if I need to buy meat. It's a real shame.

But right afterward we came to Sunnyside Produce and the difference was night and day. That contrast made me realize how important it is to give credit where it's due, especially after calling out bad service somewhere else. Sunnyside absolutely deserves praise. From the moment we walked in we were met with kind helpful people who were actually attentive and happy to assist. There was no attitude or indifference, just friendly efficient service. The team here clearly cares about what they do and about the customers walking through the door. The produce is fresh vibrant and well-organized, with a great mix of organic and local options that are thoughtfully stocked. Everything looked clean and cared for from the shelves to the displays, and it made shopping here feel relaxed and enjoyable. The prices are solid too, better than most other local places when you factor in the quality. It does not feel overpriced, and you actually leave with the sense that you got value for your money. What stood out the most to me is the atmosphere. This place has a soul. You are not just shopping, you are being welcomed. That is rare. After our visit I felt like this review needed to be written not just to balance out a negative one, but because Sunnyside Produce genuinely deserves recognition for doing things right. If you are looking for a place with real service, real food, and real people, this is it.
