Jackie is the manager of this safeway pharmacy. It is a circus sideshow. I was recently kicked over after Rite Aid closed. Nothing but issues. They frequently lose prescriptions from my doctor. They try to charge me if I dont mention my insurance coveres certain prescriptions. Today the manager Jackie said my insurance doesn't cover one of my prescriptions. I know this. The last 5 years I have been paying cash and using a good RX coupon. This takes the prescription from well over $1000 to under $20. Jackie said its policy i cannot pay cash with the coupon. Safeway pharmacy states if your insurance doesn't cover, you pay cash. SAME AS EVERYWHERE ELSE, COUPON OR NOT. So you see the fraud is rampant and truly is, all around us. I would advise against getting your prescriptions here. Jackie makes up her own policies. She'll try and get you for every dollar she can. Beware. read more

I arrived at this Safeway at approximately 3:30pm today, Wednesday February 4. One of my items was a 1/2 gallon of milk. Much to my surprise even though it was on sale there was absolutely NO 1/2 gallons of milk! Safeway can you explain this to me please? I have been a Safeway member since the 1980's! Long before the checkers were even born! Please do not advertise an item on sale - especially the very first day of sale unless you can provide it to the customer! Just the worst. Everything is moved around way too often, or straight up not stocked anymore. aisles are crowded with product, prices are way too high for the experience and product quality (seriously, deluxe foods is down the street and has better food for almost the same price), flavorless meat and produce every time I try it again, etc. I see why I stopped shopping here YEARS ago, but we needed a cake so here we are. Today we went to pick up the bday cake we ordered 2-3 days ago. We get to the bakery counter at exactly the time we were told to be there (between 9:30-10am) and...nobody is working the counter. Like lights and baking appliances are turned off and only person there is a cleaning guy who doesn't work the department, wiping the floors with a mop in the dark. He finally sees us, finds our cake, and forgets to put a price label on it - understandable because he's usually not doing that job. However the clerk at the front also didn't know the price for a 1/4 sheet cake - ok fine it happens. But he ALSO didn't have a little booklet with all the prices in there. What is going on with this place?! So he has to call the bakery department and ask - but don't forget - there's nobody there to answer! So he has to physically walk across the store and find out. Finally we pay and leave after it taking 15-20 mins to check out and a huge line now built up. In every lane, they had 2 checkers open and about 10 people in each line. we finally get home, and open the cake to find... it's dry and cracking, and clearly been made yesterday or even the day before. Then to put icing on the cake (pun intended) THEY SPELLED THE 4 YEAR OLDS NAME WRONG ANYWAY. Guys this isn't rocket science here, it's literally having days to decorate a cake correctly, but apparently that was asking too much. The locals avoid this place like the plague for a reason. The store is dirty and cramped, the products are expensive and not good quality, and parking is basically impossible every single time, and checking out takes about 20 mins. This must be one of the worst managed Safeway stores ever. Chronically understaffed. Shopped yesterday, only one check out register was open, and at least 5 people waiting in line. Opted to use self checkout, but I had some alcohol purchases that I needed to take to the person monitoring the self checkout area to ring in. He then scolded me for using self checkout because he thought I had more than 15 items. I pointed out that only one checker was working, and he didn't seem to care. F*#king unbelievable!!! Actually my self checkout receipt showed 13 items, and I had 2 additional alcohol items that were a separate transaction, so 15 items in total. Ridiculous. read more

I come to this Safeway on my way back from dropping my kid off and going to work quite often. The morning crew is great, very kind and helpful. The sushi and the hot food is always a hit, sometimes I do wish they put more avocado sushi out (just because my child absolutely loves it and sometimes we don't get there until they leave), but that's just a personal preference. I went here the other night, we clipped all the coupons on the computer before we went in. I saw a bag of popcorn for 1.99 with coupon, I take it to self checkout but it rang up for the wrong price. I've had people quickly come up, ask questions then fix it for me many times, but I tried to ask for help from an older man that was helping self checkout. He approached incredibly irritated that I asked him for anything, when we told him the problem he asked us to open up the app and show him that we had the coupon clipped, we weren't signed in on the app so we decided not to take it. He grabbed the popcorn bag very angrily then tossed it to the register to the side of the self checkout while grumbling about us wasting his time. I work customer service and I was honestly surprised at his attitude. Won't stop me from coming in though. Thank you to the other workers who are always so incredibly helpful and sweet! I fought going between a three and a four star but that experience just really made me uncomfortable, no one should feel uncomfortable when trying to shop. read more

I went in today with a e-giftcard, and they refused to accept it and told me I would have to leave the store and print it out. I followed the instructions sent along with the gift card and how to use. I had $75 worth of groceries including cold items, and it is absolutely unreasonable and unacceptable to require me to leave the store after they were unable to process the transaction from my gift card, first telling me they didn't work at self checkout, then telling me I needed to go print it out. This Safeway has a habit of hiring individuals who struggle socially, rude, and unable to do their job effectively, more specifically at the self checkout area. I'm extremely disappointed and hope this place can get it together, absolute waste of my time and energy. read more

UPDATE: Safeways have a tendency to incorrectly charge you by NOT applying discounts when you clip them in the app. This has happened to me EVERY VISIT for the past 2 months at different locations. As a matter of fact, I did some research and found that Safeway and its parent company had a class action lawsuit due to overcharging people. So, no, I'm NOT making this up, however, a clerk decided to basically call me a LIAR when, once again, the clipped coupon failed to apply the discount by telling me, "The register never lies." Oh, so by default, he's saying I'm lying. That's a false accusation and horrible attitude for someone who's supposedly works in customer service. This guy asked me several times and even saw my coupon was clipped, he STILL DOUBLED DOWN and claimed, "Well, someone else used the deal..." Which is a lie, because I'm the only person who actually purchases cereal in the home. Watch your receipt if you clip your coupons there, because you might be getting ripped off, and get implicated as a LIAR. This location still has very little inventory and usually run out of sale items quickly. The variety of brands are very limited as well. There's also always issues at their gas pumps, be it they don't all work at the same time causing the lanes to bottleneck (it doesn't help that clueless drivers are also unable to understand ARROWS which direct them where they should enter, perhaps they need neon signs). The woman who is filling in at the floral department today really dislikes her job. I approached her in the floral department and for about two minutes she acted like she didn't see me even though I was about 3 feet from her, finally I just said hello and she looks up and says I'll be with you in a minute! Really because I've been standing here for two and you looked so busy putting a box together that you couldn't ask me what I needed help with? Finally I just asked her a question, but she didn't know anything because she was filling in. OK, so what do you do while you're in that department just be a jerk to everybody and ignore them and then not answer any of their questions go back to self check! Safeway kleenex. Safeway has now put their brand on the (Softly) kleenex and whenever that happens run do not walk away from that product. Bought 5 boxes of the Softly kleenex and since they have their brand on the box the way the kleenex is made has changed. So beware that they put two thin pieces of kleenex together and appears a machine crimps the edges to sell as one piece. Try using to remove makeup and the two kleenex pieces slide away from each other and you end up with one sheet completely shred in your hand. Maybe fine for blowing your nose but that is all. read more

They never have what you need and their milk is always a couple days from the expiration date. Was just there today and they had milk nearly TWO WEEKS PAST expiration date pushed to the front. Most of the Safeway markets are almost the same. The best about this one is close to the campground we are when we are there on the Labor Day weekend. The store in front is the older style classic looking of the Safeway. It is outdated but still organized and clean. The key is I can found everything I needed in the store. The parking lot at this store is smaller than most of the Safeway markets I have shopped. Finding a parking space can be challenging sometimes! But the parking lot is clean and looks very safe to me. read more

I received some flowers from my husband yesterday from this Safeway. I opened the wrapping, and half of the flowers were dead. This is the second time this has happed. I asked my husband where he bought them, he told me and I told him, don't buy any flowers there again. It's just a waste of money. The florist needs to do a much better job of going through the bouquets to ensure the flowers are fresh. I would have thrown them all out but I didn't want to hurt my husband's feelings. Don't waste your money here. I would give this a zero rating if I could. read more

(Gas station) This is the Safeway gas closest to my house and my least favorite one!! I always wait in the correct line. Because I know they only have it to lanes for one way in and two lanes for the other way, however, no one ever pays attention, but I patiently wait in the correct lines however, it seems like it doesn't matter and I'm the only nice person there is. It just causes a big traffic jam and it takes even longer. I would rather pay more money for gas then. read more

Made a grocery run here during a vacation in the area. This is a nice quaint strip mall that reminds me of one you would find in a mountain town somewhere. We got everything we needed and we left stocked up with food and more importantly wine. A week after this incident I went back to Safeway to the customer service counter and spoke to a nice older lady who has always been nice to me whenever I come to this Safeway. I explained the situation to her and she ran the gift card through the customer service register for 25 cents and confirmed it worked just fine... I asked a male Safeway director who walked up to ask what was going on, to ask Joanna (the Safeway director who I had an issue with during the incident) if Joanna could call me and apologize. No call was made to me. I also want to point out that corporate responding to my complaint was terrible. They kept saying the district manager would contact me, but they didn't contact me either. Seems like they just want to sweep it under the rug and pretend it didn't happen. I left a copy of my gift card printout that clearly says it was purchased from Bitrefil (Safeway gift card for $250) with my phone number written on it. I'm assuming Joanna just threw it into the trash. Thanks Safeway, and thanks corporate for no accountability. If corporate says the district manager will be reaching out to me but nobody reaches out, it makes me feel like corporate doesn't care. read more

Be attentive..I've been stalked/observed, photographed, and recorded throughout my entire visit inside, and even to my and home. .. I'd recommend not shopping here if you read labels, compare items, use the phone/app(or anything in your pocket periodically, are indecisive, injured, handicap, or take time. They'll call code 200 and 201. Most likely, they will label you and then share all they've obtained with other locations, so dont be surprised if you get extra odd attention by random shoppers. They most likely took off the apron just for you... They stalk and awkwardly shop next to you. Won't help when you have questions or need help, like a cart throughout your visit. I've always been curtious, kind, and polite and cautiously shop for my strict diet often. It's not acceptable to feel uncomfortable buying food while being judged and treated like a criminal. The DM and SM have been made aware after i experienced this for many visits. I've been fed up with it and can't take it as a joke any longer. Safeway creates a false narrative by b discriminating and judging your shopping presence. If they lived up to their name, a safe way to shop is providing quality over quantity, genuine assistance, and setting the standard on their knock-off brand! How i see it, instead of bulk buying questionable foods to charge unrealistic prices on while blaming the consumer due to high turnover(waste) that they've made. It'd be more welcoming if they were charging a reasonable rate, discounting*(and honoring the discout( or donating the food before it expires).. read more

Consistently bad customer service. Cashiers barely make eye contact, much less greet you pleasantly. You have to just about ASK them to bag your items, and then they do a terrible job of it. Today, my eggs almost ended up in the bottom of a bag - I had to ask to please make sure the eggs are on top. When I got home I found canned goods on top of pieces of fresh fruit. Either lack of training, or the workers just don't care. Maybe both. Many times I've gone in, and have seen several employees at the front talking loudly amongst themselves--all but ignoring the customers. Cashiers on their phones. The selection is limited, but it's a relatively small store, so that's expected. Shelves are often not re-stocked and pricing tags are missing. read more

Smallest Safeway market I've ever visited. Limited inventory compared to the newer mega-markets. I stopped in for a fast 4 items purchase. Constantly had to weave and dodge between other folks because the aisles are ridiculously narrow. Pharmacy section pitifully small. Looked for a specific sun screen lotion that is super common. Was not on the shelf. There were only 4 brands of sunscreen and about 2 bottles each of those. I've been in bigger and better stocked 7/11 mini-markets. read more

This store has drastically improved within the last 4 months I've noticed and my friends have also mentioned to me! Once a store that I would purposely avoid is finally being run and operated correctly! Ringing up is now positive and fast with so many lanes open, the staff is very friendly and kind, what used to feel stale and unwelcoming is now full of life and inviting! Deli is terrible, ordered a hot Ruben sandwich. The sandwich was terrible as was the service. The only bread they had was everything bagel seasoned roll, they was basically no meat on the sandwich and it was supposed to be toasted. It was cold. The entire store smelled of urine. Safeway Pharmacy is cheaper, but it doesn't always work. Sometimes they tell you to come on "Wednesday," and on Thursday, the prescription isn't ready. It happens often. I really against "telling on" employees who're "not happy," but Safeway pharmacy is very extreme. I genuinely don't think that employees who "don't smile" should be reported, but in Safeway pharmacy, they genuinely look miserable. I don't know if the salary is offensive, or they are mistreated, or they are just poor pharmacies, but for many years, they honestly seem to be suffering. I wouldn't care unless they would screw up almost every time. In some cases, they gave me the wrong medication; in others, they didn't have my prescription "ready yet," and other problems. Safeway Pharmacy is only for the homeless and the poor, but not for the regular people. read more

This store is very restrictive in the variety of products and foods that are available at most other Safeway locations that I've noticed this one has many of the things I purchased at the Safeway stores near my last place always had all the different varieties of food brands and options that this location seems to struggle with, I'm not sure if I just need to put in a request with this particular Safeway to see if they'd be willing to order the products that I prefer, I don't know how that works or if it would change anything. If it would make a difference some of the areas I would like to see more options in are; the food products ranging from produce to frozen aisle items, for example the pizza selection is awful and the ice cream section could be better also. Product services in the hygiene section are limited as well as far as options and the pet department. I could go on but I'm assuming I'm made my point. I'm also taking a guess that this may be because this particular location is quite small compared to the other Safeways I used to live by. read more

This particular beach-town Safeway is a little rough around the edges! If I were reviewing the entire store, it would be a 3 star "er".... okay maybe just 2 :-)! But tucked away in the back of the store is a definite five-star floral shop. From my sister's birthday to impromptu get togethers on the beach, this is my go-to place to liven things up with balloons and floral decorations. I have never been disappointed with the service and always appreciative of the creativity of the expert behind the counter. On this particular day my sister was serving brunch in honor of her best friend's, daughter's birthday. Because I had popped in rather unexpectedly, which I do often, LOL I wanted to present my own personal gift to the birthday girl. So off to Safeway I zipped! It was a Sunday morning about noon and Safeway was crowded, as always, with tourists and locals doing their thing. I raced back to the floral department and there was only one person ahead of me! Yayyy! She was being helped by the florist person so I took that time to look around at all the fresh flowers, potted plants, candy and balloons! I loved the bountiful selection. It has, actually, been my experience that almost every Safeway I have used to purchase flowers or balloons has a very good selection. That is something you can usually just count on no matter what city you might be visiting. So now it is my turn and as usual I can't make my mind up so I turned everything over to Kristi and hoped for the best :-). I did explain I wanted something very fresh meaning the flowers that have just been put out and something somewhat sophisticated. She did not hesitate and took me over to a bucket of flowers and told me these had just come from the back. I loved her choice so we walked around and she gave me some suggestions of what might look nice with this particular flower type. I love she give me choices and then i could select my favorite. Kristi is very good at what she does. She just made it all so effortless and even kind of fun choosing this birthday bouquet. I was a bit under pressure so I was super relieved to have someone as professional as she was to make it all go so smoothly. After the flowers selection she went to work and I swear in less than 10 minutes she had created this beautiful bouquet . Thank you Kristi! Safeway is lucky to have you. We recently started using the order pickup at the Rio Del Mar Safeway in Aptos. Place your order on-line using the Safeway app and you get a pickup time window. They pick the items off the shelf for you, send you a text when it's ready, bring it to the car, and load it into the car for you. There's currently a charge for bags, but no other fees. In these days of Covid, this service limits your exposure to others in the store and reduces spontaneous purchases. The "runners" have been friendly, masked, and explain order changes in the event an item isn't available. Great, GREAT, service! read more

I would like to update any yelpers or readers about my call with Briana Lyle. Today 2/25/22 3:19pm I ended a call with Briana and I am left in awe as to how kind and compassionate she was on our call. I am very thankful I made yet a fourth attempt to reach her over the incident with her fellow employee Yoana. It is my hope that Briana is very well recognized for the way she cares about each customer and their in store experience. Everyday since that day I've driven in the area of this Safeway I can't help but to fee the negative feelings after my experience in the store that day while wanting to get a sandwich. Since my call with Briana, that feeling will change into a positive feeling as I am very thankful to know Safeway has a great store director. To Safeway Corporate, I hope she is recognized for the way she's handled this situation. I went to 3 different clerks at Safeway, Aptos, yesterday. I let them know that there are 2 Safeway carts sitting next to the garbage cans, behind New Leaf. (The area where the fake grass is at) One clerk thanked me and walked away. The other 2 clerks were very polite, but they pointed out that the carts can just stay there, no one can pick them up. They will just buy more. According to them, the carts run $800 each. I would think that this loss of equipment, gets passed down to the shoppers in the price of groceries. The carts are still there. Does anyone have enough common sense to go pick them up? New Leaf has no use for them, either does the businesses down there. If I had a van, I would bring them back, but, since I don't, please pick them up! read more

We went in looking for proper ingredients to made a lovely dinner and 3 of the ingredients we came home with turned out to be expired that being Edemame ,seaweed salad ,and artifical crab. The expiration dates all were valid for another 3 days yet the food itself was clearly spoiled all above mentioned items smelling rancid and tasting foul. If you are going to Safeway looking for any of their ingredients near the sushi counter think twice otherwise your just throwing your money away. It's a real shame this happened because the staff who helped us were very kind and helped us find what we needed. I would have loved to leave a 5 star review if only they had checked the products quality. It's been 3 hours since we've thrown those Edemame and spoiled , sea grass salad , & artifical crab outside in the garbage and the noxious stench still haunts my nose. read more

The pharmacist I spoke with was just unnecessarily rude from the beginning of the interaction. It was as if she was in a really poor mood and didn't leave it at the door. She was very demeaning and overly authoritative, I'd even say aggressive to my grand mother who just needed her to slow her taking speed down a little. Giving us the time of day as customers would be nice as well but I think that's asking a bit much from this pharmacy. A little respect would go a long way, be nice to old people. read more
