We had a small chip in our windshield for a few years but didn't do anything about it until we moved up to Iowa from Florida because our small chip cracked all the way across the windshield after our second winter. So we decided to wait until spring and as we were driving down university ave in cedar falls, my wife says" there's a small mom and pop vehicle window place right there we could go to". And I replied" I think we should go to a big well known place instead". So she said "what about safelite since I just saw a commercial for one it popped into my head". I said "yeah that sounds good". So we looked and found one not too far from our house, perfect!! Oh if we had only known..... we made an appointment to drop off our truck first thing in the morning. I ended up having to work so my wife took the truck and had to wait until I could come and pick her up. When she got there (15 minutes before the appt time) the technician said he was running behind about an hour because he was having trouble with the truck he was already working on, which was no big deal because my wife is super patient. She told him she understood, things happen. But while she was patiently waiting there, she had to use the restroom. She went into the restroom and there was feces and urine covering the toilet and the sink was caked with muck that was unidentifiable and no paper towels or a hand dryer... Not a huge problem but disgusting. I was finally able to get a break and come and pick her up. She was there at 9:15 am for the 9:30 appt. I picked her up around noon and asked the tech approximately how much longer and he replied 45 minutes. I guess I shouldn't have assumed he would call when it was ready. I called an hour and a half later to the national call center (since you can't call your local safe light directly...) and he told me it was done. Great! So we went and picked it up, paid almost $300 and started to drive home and noticed my cowl was shaking like crazy. So I pull over at the Hy vee and check it out and could see that something was very wrong. The cowl was super loose in the middle and it never was before. So I call the national call center again located in mystery land and spoke with a lady who tells me she'll set up an appointment for 12-5pm the following day. At 8 a.m. The following day a safelight van pulls into my drive. The tech pulls off my cowl and says the installer broke my middle clip off and that's why it's vibrating and loose. I ask him what the next step was and he said he wasn't sure since the manager was on vacation that week and no one else was authorized to make this kind of decision so I would need to wait until next week to find out. So the tech reassembles my cowl and assures me that safe light is pretty good about making things right. He further tells me that the installer should have vacuumed my truck and cleaned the windows wow, not only did he not do that and broke my owl but also didn't protect my dash and has drips of something on my dash along with greasy fingerprints! The next day it was raining of course and I had a lot of leaves and debris from my tree on the windshield as I was driving my son to school. I turn on the wipers and try to use my wiper fluid and nothing comes out! I try several times and can hear the pumps but no fluid! So I drive my son to school and return home with leaves and such on my windshield streaky and dirty and when I get home I find that the tech that took off my cowl did not reattach my windshield wiper fluid pump hose....So on the following Monday the manager calls us and we explained what happened and he says, we'll order a new part and when it gets here we'll call to set up a time for a tech to come install it. Well that didn't happen. What did happen is their automated email system sent me an email telling me I had an appointment at my house between 8a.m. and 5p.m. on the following Tuesday. So on Tuesday I take my sons car to work, my wife stays home nearly all day long waiting for these people and guess what? No one shows up or even calls. Like we don't have anything else going on in our lives but to sit at home all day waiting for someone to come replace something they broke. So right now it's 5:21 and I haven't heard from them. But I did see a safelite truck parked at sams club with a guy sleeping in it, which isn't too far from my house, approximately 2 blocks. So now my wife has been sitting here all day waiting for this guy and we haven't even received a phone call!!! I try to leave an extremely honest review good or bad. And most things that happened weren't a huge deal but when compounded with all the other little negative details, it all turns into a terrible experience. And in the end my wife said we should have gone to the small mom and pop shop, they would have probably appreciated our visit instead of taking us for granted like the big name nationwide Safelite. Now it's after 5pm on May 9th, two and a half weeks since they replaced my windshield read more
