I came in needing a new filling and a repair on an old one, and from start to finish the experience was genuinely great. What stood out most was how thorough he was in explaining everything before touching a single tool. He walked me through exactly what he was going to do, why it needed to be done, and what my options were -- no pressure, no rushing. He made sure I was fully comfortable before moving forward, which honestly made a huge difference in keeping my anxiety in check. The actual work was smooth and efficient. Both the new filling and the repair came out great, and I barely felt a thing. You can tell he really cares about his patients, not just getting through appointments. If you've been putting off dental work because you're nervous or just dread the process, Dr. Hartford is the guy. Highly recommend!

Every single visit the staff is thorough, friendly, and makes you feel genuinely welcome from the moment you walk in. They don't rush through the cleaning and always make sure everything is done right. But what really makes this place special is Dr. Hartford himself. He always takes the time to stop by during my visit just to check in and ask how things are going. It's a small thing, but it makes such a big difference; it never feels like just another appointment. You feel like an actual person, not just a patient on a schedule.

I finally found one under my dental insurance, it is in Novato, after signing all sort of documents ( also including " not allowed to share my opinion in social media"). This dental group said I need deep clean!? What? And they were being very pushy. They wanted me to sign a 3-deep clean treatments contract. I was not allowed to get a copy if I don't sign a paper said "I acknowledge it. ". There is no way brushing 2 times a day, flossing every night still needs a deep clean. In doubt, I searched dental care in Petaluma. Lucky me, found Dr. Lester. Without insurance, I paid $150. Got x rays, evaluation, and thorough checking , Dr. Lester said I am good to get a dental clean, deep clean is not necessary at all. The hygienist, sweet Debbie was shock that my previous doctor's evaluation in May. She said in her 39 years of experience that there is no way I need deep clean. She took her time to explain all my questions . She said I don't have much plaque or deposit between my teeth. Constantly she asked me if there is any discomfort or any other issue. Walk out with detailed clean and buffed shiny teeth! Happy!

She is condescending, rude and a total "Karen"! An epitome of a horrible dental hygienist. She started sweet but fake. One of those type, you can tell she will explode in a drop of a pin. I warned her about my sensitivity and she began her "Karen" attitude when I started feeling the pain. She asked me in a condescending sweet fake voice "so, what did your dentist do to clean your teeth when you act like that?" While I was uncomfortably twitching due to the pain of my extremely sensitive teeth. I replied, "my previous dentist gives me anesthesia and proceeds" she said, " well I can't do that, and, who's your old dentist? Is it a private practice?" Why would she give you anesthesia all for the whole mouth? Your tongue will not have any movement. I am thinking, ok, so, she's a dentist she knows what's she's doing. Why am I explaining this to you? She is just oozing with negativity and I started feeling so uncomfortable. Never in my living years of going to the dentist I felt so bad that I had to literally jump out of the chair and wanting to run as fast as I can away from this person. I am flabbergasted at this point. Is that question even relevant? Who is my dentist? Is it a private practice? She started blaming her incompetence on me. Told me she have to cut my session into two parts because I can't sit still and I have severe plaque etc. my old dentist has 5-6 hygienist who are all capable of handling my situation of extreme sensitivity and heavy accumulation of plaque etc without being rude and condescending. She repeatedly continues to say that it's my fault she had to be this way. She told me to take an anti anxiety pill because my stress level is way too high And that the doctor will prescribe me medication and I have to go to a pharmacy to pick it up and come back. It's the last appointment of the day by the way. This woman is nuts. When I told her that my previous dentist in Fremont is a well known top notch dentist. She cut me off by saying "anyway, I have 40 years experience" so, irrelevant. Why is she working her? Who hired this woman? Are people just lucky that they have not encountered her bad behavior. She asks questions and if she doesn't like the answer she retaliates with rudeness. I also scheduled my son's appointment an hour after my estimated time. My son was running late and the front desk manager Laura asked me to call him. When Debbie the "Karen" hygienist came back she told me. Did you read the sign no phones allowed? I said I saw that, but Laura told me to call my son. Then she stood closely with a weird hovering psycho attitude I was forced to hand my phone to one of the dental assistants. The experience is just so off and disgusting. She dragged the doctor back in and presented me with a bill of how much it will cost and still have not began anything and when she did. She splattered a numbing liquid on my tongue which caused more unpleasant feelings. I told her I want to go and she changed her voice from psycho to psychotic times 20 fake concern voice. "Have you not have a numbing cream given to you before?" I said I have but not like how you gave it to me, burning my tongue!" Laura tried to book me again for a new session with Dr. Lester. As I drove away. I feel so bad and embarrassed for this person's behavior. I will just pay someone else that's much more deserving. Bad employee ruins businesses. So bad So sad Poor Dr. Anastasia Lester I feel bad for her for having Debbie on her team.

I went in once before the pandemic and again in March 2021. The good: the place is bright and clean with what appears to be up-to-date equipment. They took x-rays which I could see on the screen. Quick and painless. The bad: I have the feeling, both times, that I was being up-sold. I understand that dental businesses don't make a lot of money on check-ups and cleaning, but that's the way it is. I don't make the rules. Both visits, they refused to do the insurance-covered teeth cleaning. They said I need "special cleaning." At times they called it "deep cleaning" and "gum scaling and root planing." Also bad: the front desk woman was rude and condescending. I came in ten minutes early, but she seemed upset that I had not responded to an email asking me to set up on their new portal. She said I could do it now, but it would take a while and if it took too long, they would have to reschedule my appointment, OK? I replied, "No, that would not be okay," remembering that they're booking three months out and I've waited the whole pandemic before scheduling this appointment. Her tone was what I'd expect a bad parent to take with a naughty five-year-old. She gave me a post-it and pen and said, "...so you can write down your username and password, so you remember it." With the looming threat of rescheduling, I hurriedly filled out the lengthy online survey of my medical history, WHICH I HAVE DONE BEFORE, probably on paper. Remember, this is my second visit. I'm not sure what crazy procedures I approved or whether I listed everything that should be listed. I made it to the finish line in ten minutes and waited for my appointment to begin. The uncertain: the dental assistant didn't seem convinced by her own sales pitch. She used vague language. She said that the routine cleaning wouldn't do any good. Last time she even said it would do more damage than good because it would just "stir up stuff." I asked if brushing my teeth and flossing was doing more damage and she seemed flustered. She listed a string of bad outcomes if I didn't approve the deep cleaning. I remember she mentioned heart attack. I was there for 90 minutes, easily enough time for a thorough check-up and teeth cleaning, but only the check-up was done - and most of that was my gums. She poked my gums with a sharp instrument - 6 times for every tooth - three places inside and three places outside. After poking around each tooth and calling out the numbers (between 2 and 4 with a few 5s on a scale of 1-10) she said, "there appears to be some blood." I figured that might be from - oh I don't know - maybe having my gums poked 120 times! But she said it indicates that I was close to having gum disease. I've moved on to another dentist. Both the hygienist and the dentist said I don't need the "gum scaling and root planing." Instead, they recommended waiting and showed me how I can better care for my teeth and gums.
