On a more personal note, I visited Albertine three times before deciding to feature it on The Boutique of the Week, not because I was wary of the selection, but the price is higher than my norm. However, Albertine truly is too good to pass up and is the perfect place to splurge and treat yourself to an amazing piece (or two, or three...). The jewelry is the best feature of Albertine and will have you coming back just to drool over it. The exquisitely edited collection is priced from $100 to a steep $1,000+. The beautiful vintage pieces are displayed in glass cases, but touching and dressing up is encouraged. Delicate necklaces share a wall with leather cuffs, and pendants of owls and horns share a case with a silver snake ring and jade earrings. Prices can only be found out from a large binder where handwritten notes and photos document the inventory. The womenswear boasts up-and-coming designers and custom-made pieces that are feminine and vintage-inspired ranging from $150-600+. Flowy fabrics in all colors can be found in floor-length silk gowns and highly-structured bomber jackets. The cozy store normally only has one or two sizes displayed, but the staff is happy to find you the perfect fit in the back. A Victorian couch faces a large mirror for ample viewing, and you can even sometimes find the owner's dog napping as the eclectically chic staff offers spot-on critiques and styling tips. While not a Judaica shop, I took a chance on stopping by while in the neighborhood for an appt nearby. They are BEAUTIFUL inside, and have an old fashioned, knowledgeable awareness of all things jewelry. I never expected to find what I had been looking for but also did way better than if I'd gone on Etsy, or even to Tiffany, or other regular jewelry store. In general their collections of all types of jewelry is amazing and very thorough and of quality in all categories. This happens to include a dedicated section for gold and silver religious pieces. I was looking for a gold Star of David and a gold chain too for it. They were very nice, helpful, and knowledgable about the gold and very reasonable. They even marked the weight of the pieces I purchased and gave me a very well made box for it. We got there an hour before they closed and there was a couple of people but they were on the jewelry side (which you can customized your own). Prices were what I expected and I chose about 5 patches for my tote. They had lots of varieties to choose from- NY style patched, animals, letters etc. My boys ended up finding some patches they like and added it to a hat (also available). There were 3 people in here, we ring the bell to go in, they make us wait, in the scolding rain. After ringing for a second time, they're telling us to wait, like if they had no time for us. Another woman was on the phone right near the door, didn't care to open it. I believe they are racist, because I'm black and looked kind of street, maybe I don't meet their "requirements" to enter their store, and maybe they don't like pregnant Asian women, that's the only reason I think they wouldn't open the door for us while it's pouring rain.

The floor stocks only one of each style, no sizes (my guess is they are around 4/6), which my friend is lucky enough to fit into. We loaded the dressing room with half the store and my friend paraded each sharply designed dress revealing even more seductive detailing then could be discerned through hanger appeal. Other women (also waiting for tables at Frankies) joined us in fawning over each other's selections, yeaing and neaing as each of us stepped out the dressing room like we were all the best of friends. The moment, the bond, the way we sincerely invested ourselves in insuring we each purchased (and we did each purchase) a dress that showed off her perfect ass or her awesome tits or adjusting the necklace chain so the brass K perched dangerously atop my décolletage... we were a magnificent team of fashion whores... but as the host across the way began to call us to our tables, we exited one by one never to speak to each other again. ---- Espresso cups empty, money laid down, my friend and I stood up to continue on our evening romp. Looking across the dining room we are graced by the sight of 2 Szeki dresses worn out of the store, 1 Szeki purse on my friend's shoulder, who knows how many Szeki necklaces draping our necks, and an acknowledging nod that we are all more fabulous ladies because of Szeki.

I ended up choosing a couple of vintage books for gifts and along with some pleasant conversation, the staff was able to gift wrap them in the most ornate way. It was well worth the visit alone to watch these ladies wrap. The books themselves were about $15-20 per book which honestly is not bad. But I do value others opinions as well. Even though I had a great time here, it may be worth it to read others opinions on the shop especially if you are an antiques buff (unlike myself). We were on vacation and stopped into this shop because we wanted to browse and spend some money…read more Unfortunately, it turned into one of the rudest customer service experiences I've ever had. As soon as we walked in, there was a large bottle of hand sanitizer by the entrance, and the owner immediately said, "Excuse me, sanitize your hands." The tone was demanding rather than welcoming. As a business owner, that's not the way to greet potential customers. I smiled and politely replied, "I'm sorry, I can't use that. I'm severely allergic." She responded, "You can't stay unless you do." I then held my hands to myself and said, "I won't touch anything." Her response, verbatim, was "Then you can just leave." Throughout the exchange, she smiled sarcastically and spoke in a snarky, dismissive tone. It took everything I had to remain composed in front of my children. I have a documented medical condition that prevents me from using alcohol-based hand sanitizer. I politely explained my disability-related limitation and offered a reasonable alternative so I could still shop without touching any merchandise. Rather than discussing any accommodation or offering another option, I was simply told to leave. I left feeling embarrassed, humiliated, and discriminated against because of my medical condition. Based on this experience, I will be filing a formal complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice under the Americans with Disabilities Act so this incident can be reviewed. I hope the owner takes the opportunity to learn how to respectfully interact with customers who have legitimate medical disabilities and understands the importance of considering reasonable accommodations. I cannot recommend this business, and I hope no one else with a medical disability is treated the way I was.
