I live in Frederick and I've been making the drive to Gaithersburg just for the sopes for close to a decade. If I had one meal before I die I honestly think the sope combo would be it. I'm Mexican and all my aunts are real competitive about their food and the person that makes theess sopes blows all of them out of the water. The texture on them are absolute perfection and do not get me started on their habanero sauce. They sell bottles of it and I do leave without one. This place has a special place in my heart. I don't think people in this area really know how incredible Sabora Azteca is. The food is filling in the best way, where you feel healthier and energized. The flavors are unique and refreshing. Also their menu has some great vegetarian dishes. Consistently awesome food. read more

Came here with my Spanish teacher to experience authentic Mexican food. The food was based on dishes in the 1700s and the flavor is amazing! Walking in, there is a display of their desserts on display: flan, arroz con leche, and jello with yogurt. I ordered enchiladas with mole, and the mole was not something I had expected. I learned the mole is made from at least seven ingredients, one of which is chocolate. And, yes, I am not a fan of chocolate, but the dish grew on me quickly after having several bites, and I finished a majority of it before I got too full. It is situated in a Salvadorian neighborhood, and the food is authentic, true to its roots. The meals are very cheap, and don't let the presentation fool you: the flavor and smell are amazing. read more

My dad and partner told me about this hole in the wall restaurant that i had to try! Beyond my expectations it's about 35 minutes away from where i live and worth that drive. The sweet cooks that perfected this shape of a sope and the salsas. You'd think it would be such a basic dish but no it comes with love FLAVOR and just the right portion. If you get the combo which is what i went with you get rice, beans, two sopes (i ordered carne asada and tinga like a spicy chicken with onion) and a can of soda. You truly can't beat that. It's a hit every time and want the entire world to know about their amazing green and red salsa. Coats your lips well and you definitely need that soda to cool down in a good way. read more

Anyone that tells you that you can't get real Mexican food in Maryland has not been here! This is pretty close to anything I've had in TX or CA. Prices are very fair and portions are large. T It has all of the atmosphere of a Chinese or sub take out counter but is a true diamond in the rough. read more

Large menu with pictures which is nice at an ethnic restaurant. Service was quick. Tried the tacos on the first visit. They were fine. Not worth coming back for (kind of bland and not loaded with meat) but edible. The tacos are better at the MVA Food Trucks. ;) I'd come back to try some other things. They have Huevos Rancheros all day, which Id like to try. The Horchata was good. So, don't be afraid to eat here if you're in the area. Some of the food I got here was good. I liked my beef tongue and pork tacos the most. The chicken tostada was worth getting too. I would never recommend the pambazos; don't be fooled by the description. There is almost NO meat in it... My friend got hte quesadillas. She wasn't impressed at all. I tried and wouldn't recommend it either. Stick with the tacos and tostadas in my opinion! read more

I came here with my bestie and her family and I must say the food was definitely amazing! It is truly a gem. Everything that we had was great down to the horchata it was a bit more of a cinnamon taste but still good. We definitely decided that we would come back. A meal for 7 was around 70 bucks. read more

Pretty interesting hole-in-the wall authentic cheap Mexican food. I had a stuffed cactus dish. Very casual, very quiet place except for the soccer playing in the background. A lot of things I have not seen before on the menu. The food could have been a little more flavorful, though. read more

Love This place! Best authentic Mexican Tacos in Montgomery County, Maryland. I moved here following ten plus years living in Southern California, and this is the closest you'll get to the authentic mexican tacos available over there. Went here with my girlfriend and it was great! Just FYI, this place is authentic so get the idea of getting nachos and burritos out of your head. That's tex mex. if you truly want Mexican food, this is the place. Fast service as well. Kind of small but nobody can fix that. Can't complain since this is the authentic Mexican experience. I can't believe it's literally taken me 3 years since moving from Chicago to the DMV to find a great taco joint but I just moved 3 blocks away and I could not be happier! The steak is perfectly charred, the tortias incredibly fresh,the house sauces are delicious and ingredients fresh. You can't ask for better tacos in the entire county! read more

This is a small Tacqueria type place in a strip mall just off downtown Gaithersburg. Just a few tables to sit and eat and the menu is written on a white board. The food is authentic Mexican and pretty good. The tacos were really good. My fiancee had a Torta that she said was good. I also ordered the Chilaquilles but they were just ok. I like them when some of the chips are still crispy but these were completely soft and a couple of fried eggs on top. The prices were reasonable but not super cheap like you might expect at this type of establishment. The service was ok but they were not very friendly. read more

This place has the banging taste and authentic flavor you could ask for in any meat, the people there are so nice and very well mannered. If you ever need anything it doesn't hurt to ask, they'd be happy to help! Came in there expecting to order 2 carne asada tacos but left with 6 in my stomach because of how astounding they are, comes freshly made off the flat grill so the food comes out nice and hot which in my opinion is the preferred temperature id like to eat my food at. I recommend to try the combo list thats on the rightside of the register, they usually don't tend to point it out as much or promote it but i always order the 2 taco combo, comes with a can of coke or a horchata and a side of beans a rice just for 8.99. Also ask about their card rewards system, as you can see their business cards besides the register it says in the bottom "turn this in to get a free taco" if you ask about it they give you a paperhole stamp in the card and they tell you once you reach 10 orders/visits you can claim the free taco, that also comes with a side of a drink! Not promoted but like i said, never hurts to ask here because of curiosity! Im giving them a 4 star unfortunately due to my notice in the price changes on the menu, it seems this summer they've revved it up a notch and have noticed the demand so they have raised the prices quite a bit not much maybe 35¢ or less but they do add up sometimes when you come in with a group or make a big order. Nonetheless i always come out of here satisfied! read more

If you're in the mood for happy hour, Guapo's meets the mark as they have an extensive drink menu including frozen options which is fitting for the restaurant theme. The customer service I received was very good. Overall, a good experience and will visit again in the area.

Push back on rushed service. Expect to be approached quickly and pushed until you order and left alone after your food arrives until you feel compelled to ask for a check and leave. Do not sit outside if you have babies/kids if you want your table to be large enough to fit your meal/drinks. -- Starting with the food, it's pretty good overall. Beans/rice come standard on a lot of options. They have a lot of creative appetizers. The guapomole and guacaviche are both worth trying. Might be a tad pricey for the portions and quality but nothing unreasonable. Burritos are a little on the small side for my expectations. During days when Rio is busy and dinner hours this place is so exceptionally busy so expect it to be loud. Everyone and their cousin has their birthday here and the wait staff are seemingly constantly singing and banging on instruments some days. The wait staff are exceptional for this type of restaurant- the reason why is likely due to so many experienced wait staff working here. And here's where we arrive at my issues with Guapo's and where it goes from a borderline 5* to a rapidly dropping 3*: Guapo's prioritizes turning tables over customer experience. And it RUINS the experience. The staff rush you to order, if you order dinner/appetizer there's a very good chance you'll be two bites into an app when your dinner arrives. Their tables are too small and too tightly packed- especially in the outside area. You can't really fit two meals, drinks, and an app on these tables for 4. Guapo's is a high volume money printer and it's become so bad I prefer looking at other options lately.

Last night my husband and I decided to dine in. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with cultural artifacts and art. This may just be a me thing but the serveware was envy worthy. It was gorgeous. I'm obsessed with beautiful dishware. There were only two people taking orders and serving food for an almost full dining room so we were understanding of a bit of a wait time. The staff were very friendly and checked in on us when they could. We ordered the khachipuri, samsa, oxtail, chohobli, steamed rice, pilmeni, and hot tea. Both the khachipuri and samsa were flaky pastries: khachapuri filled with a salty stretchy cheese with a cheese pull that tasted better than it was Instagram-able and samsa filled with a savory meat/onion mixture served with a tomato based sauce. Get one per person because you will not want to share. We ordered fried mini dumplings which are filled with meat and also served with same tomato based sauce that came with the samsa. They were delicious but afterwards I saw that you can get them steamed in a broth, I told myself I have to get that next time. The slow-cooked, tender oxtail was served over the best crispy, fat-fried potatoes I've ever had. The chohobli (chicken stew) was fall off the bone into a delicious tomato-based stew. We ordered the rice to sop up the delicious stew. The tea really helped to cut the richness of all the delicious food. I have not shut up about this place since we had this meal. I will rave about it to just about anyone that will listen in hopes that they will come with me next time so we can order more dishes to share.

Overall, I'd come back to try more items from the menu since the cafe was clearly popular and had a great atmosphere. If you're in the Gaithersburg area looking for breakfast or brunch, it's worth checking out

The line at the toppings bar can be another 10 minutes. The staff is incredibly rude, doesnt understand what dairy is, and they have never included beans in the burrito bowl and I've ordered it 4 times. Even with a cheap price, it's not worth it because the food is mediocre and they never get the order right. The chicken is dry every time. Then they charge something like 54 cents just for a Togo bag or else you have to carry the boxes. They also fail to put the orders together the way they were ordered. For example if you go with a group of friends and you each separately order, they put all the tacos mixed in 1 box. Last time it became a huge argument and they unpacked the entire order, threw away all the boxes, reboxed it, then wouldnt give our food back until we each paid (again) for 53 cents for each to go bag; held our food hostage for $2.12. If you're very poor and don't value your time, this is a decent spot to stuff your gut. And if you're thinking of taking a date here, don't. They decorated it like a NY cab stand for some reason, and it's a cafeteria, not a restaurant. Many people find the toppings bar disgusting because it is not up to health code.
