From day one, the staff made our family feel welcomed. They strike that rare balance of being warm and nurturing while also maintaining high academic and behavioral expectations. My boys are excited to go to school each morning, and as a parent, that peace of mind is priceless. The teachers are exceptional--patient, communicative, and deeply invested in each child's growth. They recognize that kids learn differently and somehow manage to challenge, encourage, and celebrate each child as an individual. Yes, it is a Christian school, but it is by no means over the top and our boys really enjoy the stories and songs. The lessons are truly focused on being good humans - who can argue with inspiring a little more love and kindness? What stands out most is the sense of community. This isn't just a school; it's a partnership. Whether it's helping my youngest gain confidence in preschool or ensuring my older kids are engaged, curious, and supported, the school consistently goes above and beyond. As a mom juggling work, schedules, and three very different personalities, I can say with complete confidence that this school has been one of the best decisions we've made for our family. My boys are thriving--and we can't say thank you enough to SCCS.

We are beyond happy and feel so fortunate to have found the school. All the staffs are genuinely kind and caring. The school environment is safe and have a warm community feeling. I love how the Principal Mr. Brazil and the teachers instruct the morning drop off traffic, they would walk the kids from the cars to their class lineup. Before switching to St. John, we toured a few other school, i.e. Stratford and Challenger. It was St. John that won our heart, the admin office ladies are efficient and organized, kids are well behaved, class ratio is lower than other private schools. Maybe St. John is not as academically rigorous as the other private schools, but it's more challenging than the public school where we went (a year ahead). My son loves his first grade teacher Mrs. Amer, she communicates effectively to the parents, and we appreciate the transparency and timely report on the children's progress. When our younger one is ready for K, we will bring him to St. John as well, easier drop-off and pickup :)

This school is a very mixed bag. First the good. The principal and his wife work very hard and,…read moreaside from the issues below, seem to be genuinely good people who in ways care for the kids in the school. Whether or not they are saved, based on knowing about and believing in the free gift of salvation, is a different topic. The school is also very affordable (subsidized by the parent church) and limited to parent church members only--therefore keeping out kids that may have been kicked out of public school. The academics at the school are also decent, not great for sure. Here are the bads: * It's a feeder to the college of the parent church: GSBC (Golden State Baptist College), which is basically a career dead end, except for the very small percentage of those pre selected for pastoral roles, based on family connections. It mainly serves as a meeting spot for college kids to get married--but at the cost of a four year education. The vast majority (nearly 100%) of the high school's graduates are expected to and do attend GSBC. * There are many kids in the school without their dads in the home, whether from divorce, being born out of wedlock, or through adoption. As such, the fatherless group can often seek out to harm those with fathers in the home, creating a weird atmosphere. * The favoritism of the children of the staff's inner circle is off the charts, which harms themselves and others. The co founder of the school often recounts that while she was growing up as a daughter of a pastor, she once won a bicycle in a school competition, but had to give it to a laymen's daughter instead to avoid the perception of favoritism--and how she was always mad about that. However, things have gone wildly in the opposite direction at NVBS with favoritism including: manipulating spelling bees to help the chosen, preventing popular laymen's children from running for class president, and massive manipulation of the sports programs, including: - Putting the principal's daughter on the varsity high school volleyball team as a Jr high schooler, without merit. - Putting the principal's son on the high school basketball team in front of players in his own grade who made varsity earlier than him and play the position better. - Spreading out the favoritism by allowing the parent coach of varsity basketball to play his older son as the starting point guard for the last two years, even though he hasn't spent the time to learn to dribble with his left hand. They also do weird things like the first grade teacher often asked the girls to rub her feet during class, which once we found out about, the principal did a good job to stop. So, all in all, I would say to avoid this school and pursue homeschooling, other Christian schools, or even be a light in the public schools. The favoritism issue alone not only hurts the confidence of the majority, but it also doesn't allow the favored few to actually work for and gain skills--hard work is simply not incentivized (the sports programs way under perform based on their size and effort). We left the school 1.5 years ago and have never been happier. Our son, who had been suppressed like the rest was a rising star in 8th grade basketball (top scorer by far and won the Student of the Year award). But when he got to 9th grade, the new parent coach of basketball benched him in JV, told me even many of his own classmates were better than him (including the coach's younger son who scored 0 baskets in junior high), and made him sit on a "bag of balls" instead of a chair during the Best of the West tournament during games. And, this is for a team ranked 95th in the county, out of about 100 teams. Now, two years later, my son is playing as a varsity guard at the 10th best school in the county.

The process for scheduling, visiting, and later enrolling at the school was so user-friendly. Ms. Elis answered all of our questions in person and later over email in a timely manner. You could tell she really cares for the students and is in-tune with the staff/children. She made a special point to tell us to bring our child on the tour as we could see how they interacted with the space and how they felt around the other students/staff as we were touring while school was in session. All of the staff is very supportive and we get regular updates throughout the day via message and more info at pick up on how the day went. It is also very easy to communicate through their app regarding pick up changes, general questions, etc. In the Bumblebee class (ages 2-3), you could not ask for better teachers than Ms. Yolanda and Ms. Sarah. They've taken such great care of our baby. Hands On Learning was our first school/daycare experience. Prior to this, our baby was regularly with me as I work from home. While already very extrovert and talkative, we really wanted them to gain more social experience. Most of the children in our lives are all older, so they're not used to parallel play with others their age. They're also used to 1:1 attention from an adult, so we wanted to expose them to a larger group setting sooner than later to improve on any growing social or separation anxiety. Ms. Yolanda in particular has been working tirelessly 1:1 with our baby and really partnering with us to make the transition from no school to half day to now full time (!) 5x a week to be as seamless and pain-free as possible. She's been great about learning what we already do at home and providing additional recommendations for us to try that will help with adjusting to full time school. While we're still navigating BIG emotions at drop off, Ms. Yolanda is always ready with a hug and a smile for our baby. There's still some days of all tears, but those days are getting less and less. I keep hearing that our baby is making lots of improvement from both Ms. Yolanda and Ms. Sarah. The evidence is all over our baby's laughing, smiling face as we talk on the drive home and lasts all the way until bedtime. I can't thank everyone here enough for helping our baby thrive. It really has been an excellent experience for our whole family!

We decided to switch school and join Res after starting at a Montessori school and wanted to continue ensuring that our children were in an environment that balanced strong academics, social emotional well-being, care for one's community and extracurricular activities. We've been so happy and impressed with Resurrection Elementary! A few things that we've truly appreciated about the school - Communication: Both the school and the teachers send periodic messages making sure that parents are informed about weekly/upcoming activities, what's happening within the classroom, and if there's anything notable about your child. (I just received an email with pictures from special activities and a note about something nice that my child did in class.) - Class connections: I think most Catholic schools may have a buddy system, but I have found the buddy program at Res to be really quite special. The older grades pair with younger grades and do weekly/monthly activities where the kids get "buddy time." The younger kids feel so special during these activities and it helps the children know people throughout the school, not just in the few classes around them. Beyond these activities, I often see the buddies acknowledge, play with, and include their little buddies at recess, in school activities, and during weekend church. The attitude, kindness, and thoughtfulness from the older kids says a lot about the school environment to me. - Academics: We've appreciated the attention and thoughtfulness the teachers have towards the children. During our last conference, the teacher could tell us where our child was doing well, areas they could improve upon, and how they were getting along in the class and school community. When we asked about making some of the work a bit more challenging, the teacher had great options/solutions and it has felt like a very good partnership. - Active (but not too active) parents/community: the school will ask for help via volunteering and the various events have been really lovely to join. Whether it's helping in the library, at lunch Duty, or with different activities to help the school, it's reasonable -- even for working families. - After care: The aftercare is incredibly helpful and reasonable. As a working family, we need the extra support through the day. During aftercare, there are sometimes extra activities/clubs -- whether sports, coding, chess or other activities in addition to the extended care activities. My kiddo asks to stay longer at extended care and we often see him playing with kiddos or playing games/reading with one of the teachers. We've had other experiences in other schools that haven't been as great as Res. Ultimately, each family needs to make the best decision based on their kiddos needs for school. We've been at schools that focus nearly solely on academics and push material in a way that children don't ultimately understand the information. We've appreciated Res and their focus on understanding the material while maintaining high academic standards while also thinking of the whole child. (Also, I should mention that we are a mixed religion family. While Res is a Catholic school, we've found it to be very welcoming, regardless of religious beliefs.)

I've been wanting to write this review for a very long time but wanted to make sure I wasn't…read morewriting it emotionally. Parents - do your research in this school before enrolling your kiddos. Kindergarten teacher (Hall) was amazing. Fostered an incredible experience for our kiddo for the 7 months she attended in person school for the 2019/2020 school year. Would give her 10 stars if I could. Our daughter loved her and truly excelled in this class. She had an issue with another student bullying her and Hall handled it extremely well. Principal (Jackie Wright) was useless in this situation to be honest until we threatened to unenroll her. Luckily, we had Hall on our side who truly helped us fight for our girl. First grade teacher (Rodriguez) was TERRIBLE. Spent the full first grade year on Zoom listening to her berate 6 & 7 year old kids. At least 5 times she put my daughter in a position of complete meltdown where she was inconsolable for a while after. She would publicly shame students on Zoom and specifically point out students by name if they did something wrong or didn't know the answer to something. It was really sad. At one point, we pulled her from class after Rodriguez completely crossed the line and immediately emailed her that we needed to talk. She was completely dismissive about our feedback and literally told us that "6 year olds lie" forgetting that we heard the entire interaction that lead up to that. Wound up emailing the principal (Jackie Wright) who was also completely dismissive (again) of our concerns and made excuses for the teacher treating little kids that way. Never would have thought my child would be bullied by a teacher for thousands of dollars a month. Real Christ like, right? Absolutely abhorrent behavior from adults who are supposed to be fostering a positive learning experience for young children. We pushed through the end of the 2020/2021 school year and left Resurrection. Our daughter is now in public school and THRIVING. Good luck if you send your kids here. Outside of the kindergarten class, don't expect the emotional and physical wellbeing of your child to be taken seriously.
