FOOD & DRINKS Finding a really good Korean restaurant…read moreoutside of Düsseldorf can be quite a task. When I found this restaurant I was open to the idea that this could be authentic and yummy. I went there completely with no expectations. From what I saw online I already liked the short list of Korean dishes. All pretty common items in Korea. So far so good. When I tried to order the Dak Galbi I was warned that it would take about 30 minutes and instead Jay, the owner, suggested to pick Dak Bokkeum instead. Dak Bokkeum is a spicy korean stew with meat and veggies. I went with the owners recommendation. The stew to me was spicy but not too much to be honest. It had some heat but nothing I could handle with ease. I've eaten way spicier in Korea. That said I grew up eating spicy food. For others it could be way too hot. The chicken was tender, juicy and had quite some flavor from all the chili. I actually expected that the stew was made with enoki or oyster mushrooms but instead the chef used button mushrooms, kimchi, onions and a lot of bell peppers. I prefer carrots, potatoes and a lot of green onions. Using Asian mushrooms to me would make the dish so much better. This is what I am used to from Korea and my own preference though. The dish was not lacking in authentic flavor which wasn't a surprise since I heard them talking in Korean. The one big criticism I have is that the stew was very oily. Half of the pot was just oil and all the veggies were swimming in all that grease. SERVICE Friendly, helpful and nice. Jay is a real character. ATMOSPHERE The restaurant is small but has its charm. It looks modern and clean. I also very much appreciated the K-POP music playing in the background. RATING Quality of the food was good. The taste was authentic. All the people working here will make your stay a great experience. I only had a problem with the level of execution regarding my dish.

I typically get the bibbimbap, but I can also say that the bulgogi, kimchi pancakes and gyoza are delicious. The quality is great as well, and the service is very friendly. I lived in London for years and no Korean restaurant in London has matched up to Youn's. I would recommend it to anyone who is in Cologne!

Chimaek!!! Korean spicy fried chicken and Beer!!! Koreanisches pikantes Chicken Wings und Bier!!!!…read more I haven't had Chimaek in a few years and couldn't find this in a Germany restaurant yet. This restaurant did not disappoint. I asked them to make it spicy, but they didn't as most Germans don't eat very spicy food. I had one bite and the chicken was really good, but was a bit sweet with a chili taste. I asked for more a hotter sauce and they brought out one with a pair of plastic cooking gloves and warned me about the hot sauce. I have a high level of spice and hotness and am very aware of how to eat chili, so I tasted this sauce and it was very spicy. I poured it all over my hot wings, but I didn't end up using the plastic gloves as it was ok for me. There were a lot of people in the restaurant looking at me as I guess they aren't used to people eating or ordering really really really hot food. The chef was an older Korean lady that speaks German. She is the main and only cook and she cooked to perfection as you would expect in your grandmother's kitchen! I saw how she was able to cook 4-5 things at once and everything that came out of her small kitchen was perfect. If you go there and love to cook, just sit at the first table on the left and you can watch a great live cook. I ordered the Korean spicy fried chicken, Hite beer from a bottle, a bowl of kimchi, and a bowl of rice. I would have ordered Sundae, but they didn't have that here. If someone knows where to find that in Germany, please let me know. 5 stars Korean spicy fried chicken 5 stars Hite beer from a bottle 5 stars kimchi 2 stars Bowl of rice, wasn't the tastiest rice I have ever had and was a bit undercooked, which you would think wouldn't happen in an automatic rice cooker Ich habe seit einigen Jahren kein Chimaek mehr gegessen und konnte das noch nicht in einem deutschen Restaurant finden.

Bulgogi Haus offered four types of sauces when two is the norm, for varying combinations of flavors. The meats are grilled in front of you on charcoal, and the servers take care to replace the charcoal at least once so that you are not eating burnt pieces of meat. I really liked the concept of having the side dishes buffet-style. It's really a mood-killer when you run out of lettuce or salad in the middle of eating your meats then waiting for your server to refill your salads. The offerings included fried calamari, Korean-sushi, sticky and sweet potatoes, fish cakes, and kimchi. Bulgogi-Haus does not seem to use MSG, even in their yummy kimchi, and I was simply content after the meal without having to reach for extra glasses of water. Kudos for having a coat rack separate from the dining tables so that the coats don't smell like meat after, and kudos for the plum wine/aloe drinks on the house!

Not just our table, every table had consistent excellent service. I'm from Australia where there is a large presence of Korean food. Trust me, you will not be disappointed. It was easy travel on the U-Bahn (tram) from Cologne central station. Welcoming break from all the heavy Bavarian food. Highlights: 1. The service 2. Friendly staff 3. Fresh meat and seafood 4. Unlimited Kim chi and rice buffet. So many different styles! 5. Cheap!! 6. Located away from a touristy area...so you know it's made for locals and not just a fast food place. I will be back again, hungry for more! Only next time I'll definitely make a booking to be safe
