An old Roman Hosteria, Sardo as the name suggests is owned and run by a lady from Sardinia and the menu reflects this with lots of excellent fish dishes, cooked to perfection and Roman staples such as tripe, carbonara etc. What I especially liked was the staffs no nonsense honest approach to food; the Dorado some of the best prepared grilled fish I have ever tasted was not local - they were not 100% sure of the actual source but trusted their supplier. The kitchen team were two extremely skilled Romanian women. Anyone who knows their culinary history will look no further than Genoa and Venice's trading routes and the Italian population in Romania dispersed throughout that has influenced the culture there, including food. Despite its location on the outskirts of Rome, Il Ristoranto Sardo is well worth a visit.

It was our last…read moreday in Rome and since we wanted seafood, we thought that a Sardinian restaurant would be a good choice. Lucky us to have chosen Eleonora d'Arborea. Located in an outer neighborhood (you can take a bus from Pizazza Venezia to within a couple of blocks of the restaurant), we had a late reservation but entered to find the comfortable main rooms still active and lively. When our waiter realized we spoke English, he sought out the owner who helped us navigate the large menu of choices and with his encouragement, we made a meal of primarily the restaurant's starters. We had crudos and tartares, raw clams, and plates of fish and vegetables. The food was extraordinary. Probably the best seafood I've ever had, and I grew up on the New England coast and now live in NYC -- I think I know fish. We also enjoyed a delicious Sardinian wine and ended the meal with the owner's treat of two small glasses of a strawberry liqueur, house-made. Our only regret was that it was our last day in Rome and couldn't return to try more things on the menu. We appreciated the restaurant's friendliness, helpful service, and most of all, the superb fish and shellfish. If I can't travel to Sardinia, I can only hope to return soon to Rome so we can eat at Eleonara d'Arborea again.

**WARNING**. Dine here at your own peril!…read more I don't usually write reviews but this one forced me. It's the worst restaurant I ever ate in Italy (out of dozens I've been to). Me and my girlfriend were walking back from the Collesium and decided to stop here for dinner. The wait to sit down was not long but there were too many issues after that and the best way to describe it is with bullets points. - It took 90 minutes from the time we sat down to getting our food. I undertand that this is a tourity area and things get busy, but during all this time waiting there was no check-in by the staff to see if we needed more drinks or water. - Salad was ordered and got to our table 60 minutes in, "dry" with no dressing or even basix olive oil. Eventually we asked for some oil/vinegar and we were charged extra for it. - Got a glass of wine and water was evidently added to it. My girlfriend also thought it tasted watered down. I should've complained but at that point I was already wanting to eat and just leave. - Food eventually got to us cold and stale. I got the Tagliata de Manzo and it must be the most gammy meat I ever ate. For a good comparison, imagine chewing bubble gum with bloody meat flavor. - The nail in the coffin was when I tried to go to the bathroom and the server inside kicked me out (I was sitting outside). Extremely rude and aggressive. Granted there may be lots of tourist just trying to use the facilities but the lack of awareness and willingness to check if I was customer was baffling. I ended up not going to the bathroom and just asked to the bill as I was done dealing with the BS. Note that this was also not cheap. The bill landed at 80 euros for basically a lettuce and tomato salad, two mediocre meals, one glass of watered down wine and an extra touch of disrespect for desert. NOT RECOMMENDED!
