I've eaten here several times ranging from a group of people to a date and it's always been a great experience. The staff couldn't be any friendlier and they are consistently on top of making sure you have everything you need. The prices are also great and it's BYOB, so bring a bottle! As my husband and I planned our wedding in Lancaster PA, we decided to feature cuisine of some of the places to which we have travelled. Thailand had some of our favorite food, and when we looked for a restaurant that served authentic and reasonably priced Thai food, we went downtown to sample Sa La Thai. We had a really great dining experience with them and decided to place an order for our wedding reception. As far as the customer service goes, the people we worked with at Sa La Thai were extremely helpful and accommodating. Even more important, everyone at the wedding RAVED about the Thai food. The drunken noodles were a favorite, and everything was so delicious. I am so glad that we decided to go with Sa La Thai for our special day and can't wait to go back for dinner in the future! Overall great experience - I went here with my fiance's family and I had had Thai food a few times before, but this was much more authentic and delicious. I forget what I got but it was great, and my fiance got the Pad Thai which was really good as well - I got it the next time we went. After reading all these raving reviews here we were very exited to have a great lunch at this place. To our surprise it wasn't the case. The ambiance was nice, the service was nice, but we were very disappointed in taste of everything we had (though we love Thai cuisine very much). Everything we ordered ( starting with soups and finishing with entrees ) was tasteless and watery and looked NOTHING like the pictures on their menu. The only thing we enjoyed was Sticky rice and Mango dessert. The price was over $30 for two which is not a good value for lunch ether. Poor service... Food was fair, but my waitress sulked at me when I told her my flavor of bubble tea was wrong, the cheese cake was hot, the bubble tea was warm. Arguably the best Thai food I've ever had! The Pineapple Fried Rice is to die for along with their Crab Dumplings and Coconut Soup. Very poor dinner. Lemon grass soup tasted like ketchup flavored broth with overcooked pieces of chicken and a few raw vegetables. Chicken Satay was 4 pieces of dried chicken on skewers with no hint of any flavor. Panang Curry Chicken again was a ketchup flavored watery broth with overcooked chicken and raw green beans. I was craving Thai and stopped in for a late lunch one day; we were pleasantly surprised to learn of its lunch special - an entree, soup and appetizer for less than $10. Incredible deal. I had the drunken noodles -- my Thai stand by -- and was very pleased. The sauce was perfect. The spring rolls were great, too. I had one of the yogurt-y drinks and it was yummy. I'm giving it a four because I didn't have a good experience in the bathroom; it smelled like sewer and on our second visit there a few weeks later (actually the day we eloped!), the sewer smell was still there and seeped into the dining area. I understand issues; but a sign acknowledging it would be a good way to let people know they are working on the issue so people don't think it always smells like that. Also, there was a sign in the bathroom that said, "please put toilet paper in the waste basket." That was odd and there was no lid on the can; what if I had gone #2? That would just be weird. This place was wonderful! We went at lunch time and ordered two lunch specials which included a choice of soup, choice of salad and choice of entree, all for a very reasonable price! The food was fresh, well prepared and presented and full of flavor. I have eaten at many Thai restaurants and I'm pretty critical of restaurants that serve "watery" curries; I was pleasantly surprised that the green curry here had a nice creamy texture and lots of flavor. I really had very bad experience with the place. To start, the owner was very rude while taking the order. We ordered 2 dishes which she messed up completely. Inspite of telling her we don't want egg in our dish, she brought the dish with eggs. Lyndsey , our server, was attentive, proficient and very pleasant. We enjoyed the crab dumplings, shrimp pad thai and the red curry with chicken. All dishes were fresh tasting and very flavorful. The shrimp was firm and the chicken tender. The warm plum pudding and the sweet and creamy, premise-made coconut ice-cream were delicious. We sat for hours chatting without being rushed. I came here about a year ago for lunch with my mother on a Friday. It was immediately off-putting that they had very specific menus based on events, or rules and regulations...first Friday's no lunch specials, open these hours , closed these hours..it was strange. They appeared very concerned with money..The two of us couldn't care less what we paid, we just wanted great thai food. We explicately stated we wanted dinner portions from the menu. Tragic FAIL..I got chicken satay, which was dry as fu..the masamun curry came out on a flat plate with rice, and the portion was appropriate for and eight year old. And, it wasn't great...My mom ordered a vegetable and pineapple dish;,which she noted were canned pineapples..we left still hungry, and slightly robbed...go to Uthai for great food, or make the trek up Harrisburg for equally good Thai. I have patroned this restaurant dozens of times with varying experiences but my latest trip was extremely disappointing. My friend and I arrived for lunch at 2:25. Lunch hours are 12-3. We walked into an empty restaurant and were told the kitchen was about to close. We were given the option to order take out or stay for lunch if we could eat quickly. After deciding to stay, we were given menus and asked to place our orders immediately. My friend is unfamiliar with Thai cuisine and was forced to select items haphazardly that he did not enjoy. Throughout the duration of our extremely brief meal we felt extremely rushed and uncomfortable with multiple employees staring at us. One would think that a struggling restaurant would encourage customers, not push them away. Perhaps that's one of the reasons why the restaurant was empty. All this being said, the food is often quite good and reasonably priced. But this being the second episode of this nature, I will likely not return to Sa La Thai. read more
