I have a 09 VW Beetle that seems to be difficult to work on for most mechanics where I live (norfolk). While I was on deployment, my gf was taking care of my car in Maryland and she noticed my car started acting funny. She took my car to DAR cars and they told her there were multiple major jobs that needed to be done and quoted her a price that would cost me my arms, legs and lungs. I told her not to get the work done and I would do my own research when I came back. Upon my return I started looking for foreign car mechanics here in Norfolk, D.C., northern Virginia and Maryland for a second opinion. Over the years I've become somewhat picky on who works on my car. I found S-2 Dynamics and a few other mechanics that I wanted to speak with about my car. I gave them all a call. Ultimately I picked S-2 dynamics and here's my reasons. 1. The obvious, they have VERY good reviews and seem to have happy customers. 2. When I called a very nice woman picked up the phone and I told her about my car and what was going on. She was very pleasant to talk to and, took my name, number, and VIN. She told me she would talk to the owner about my car and have him call me back. 3. When the owner called me back (Pat), he was also very nice. I explained to him that I would have my gf drop my car off for them to look at later on that week and that I would prefer to have my car by the end of the week so I could drive it back out to Norfolk. ------ Fast forward: after looking at my car, the owner called me back and gave me a full on explanation on what was going on with my car, I had tons of questions and he was very patient with listening and answering my question with detail. At this time I felt very comfortable and confident with S-2 Dynamics working on my car so I gave him the green light. As asked, they had my car ready for pickup on Friday and it was for an amazing price! When I finally got my car back, it drove sooo smooth, like flawless, and it's been driving smooth ever since. I called on a Monday (3/1/21) to schedule an appointment to get my wheels and tires mounted that I ordered from tire rack. I spoke to I believe "Juan" to get a quote . I mentioned will there be any discounts since I'm bringing the wheels and tires separately, he said they can do $100.. ok cool let's book for the following Friday... He gets my information and said he'll put in their computer system so the day I arrive, all is on record .Friday, comes up, I show up to drop off my wheels for them to mount. Few hours later i come back to pick them up and was told $140.. I told the gentlemen who rang me up that I was quoted $100. He tried to search their database but had no record.. it just so happened " Juan" was not working that day either. This is my second time here with my second car. The first time I brought in for tires mount and balance on the Audi SQ5. This time I brought in my MK 7 golf for long coding. I could only obtain the codes in German from the internet, but Patrick was willing to accommodate and did the coding for me. This is something it would never happen at dealerships. Where do I start when you find a shop that's reasonable employees know what they're doing and it's in the middle of Rockville . I've been in the area for 30 years this was the best car experience shop repair I've ever had on my BMW 528i I used to take it to a shop for years it was using aftermarket products this gentleman explain the difference was minor but I was told from the old shop that I was purchasing original products. Patrick and his crew took my car in very efficiently replaced parts scanned and had my car back on the road in a timely manner .. one of the most professional car business quote places in the area. I would like to take my Volkswagen to this place, but when I have called this place three times on three different occasions to get a price quote(regular service, N80 value sensor replacement, and clutch replacement). On all three calls the telephone operator got my contact, and car information; and told me they would call me back in a few minutes. On all three occasions I have never received call back. Truly the best place we have ever taken my Audi for service. When we dropped the car off, we thought the wheel bearings and brakes needed work, but it turned out only the wheel bearings needed to be replaced. This was the first time in my life I've had a car place tell me I needed to spend less than what I originally thought. I felt like they were completely honest and upfront about what was best for my car, rather than just doing extra work because it would make them more money. They finished the same day and even returned the car cleaner than it was when we dropped it off. The customer service was incredible. I've been meaning to leave a review for S2 for quite some time now. I've been going to Pat and his team for about 6 years. I brought my M3 here for years and now I bring my Audi and my ML350. S2 always does a great job. They also take the extra time to help me and inform me when I have questions. Recently, I needed new tires and an alignment but I wanted to switch the tire size from OE to a wider tire. Pat checked on it himself and confirmed for me this was possible and then explained a few extra things to me to make sure I was good with it. The first time I dropped my car off I expected the usual runaround, the same one I have received from the dealer for the past nine years. I found Pat to be easy to talk to, extremely knowledgeable, and as concerned about the drive-ability of my GTI as I am. We moved into DC last summer, and although out of warranty, took my '06 Audi A6 to the local Audi dealer last year for service. Not the kind of experience I had come to expect from a certified Audi dealer, and the cost made it prohibitive to return again this year. I spent a good bit of time reviewing European mechanics in the DC area, and found some great reviews for S2 Dynamics in Rockville. I called and spoke to Pat and asked for an appointment for the yearly "regular" service (oil change, lube, rotate tires, check levels....that kind of stuff). He was very informative and polite. I arrived at S2 Dynamics at 8am and they took my car immediately into the shop and started working on it. The waiting room is clean and bright. About 45 minutes later, Pat came out and said I was all done and ready to go. He went through all that was done on my car in detail so I knew what was accomplished. He also said that they looked at the condition of the other parts (like brakes, belts, hoses, and overall condition) and they all looked good and didn't need to be fixed or replaced anytime soon...an honest guy! I paid and made it to work by 9:30am.....painless! Based on the pedigree of cars in their shop when I was there, lots of people who have high-end cars agree this is where you want to take your European car to be fixed. After being raked over the coals at the dealer and still not fixing the problem, I had to reach out to the Audi world for a honest and dependable mechanic that would actually fix my car, S2 came up. I had some issues with my S6 and it is still under warranty. Pat spoke to me, gave me some options and offered to take a look at it. I've been a happy customer of Patrick and S2 Dynamics for a number of years. After trying to be loyal to another independent repair shop in the area and paying a fortune for unsatisfactory results I finally brought my '04 Audi allroad to S2 Dynamics. What a difference! A car that basically lived in the shop now runs like a champ. The car now lives far away, so it hasn't been in to S2 for a while and I'm dreading the next time it needs service. When my '11 Audi S4 was about to come off warranty I happily took it to S2 to take over the service. They have done a number of modifications to the car (APR exhaust, KW coilovers, Revo stage 1 chip, SPC adjustable control arms, the list goes on...) and have always done an outstanding job in a timely and courteous manner. They've also handled all of the routine maintenance and dealt with the inevitable problems (hey it's an 8-year-old Audi, it's gonna have issues!) in the same fashion. I'm writing this review because my S4 is currently on a flatbed heading down there. The thermostat failed (a known issue with these cars), which is a pretty big job since you have to take the supercharger off to get at it, but i have the utmost confidence that the job will be done quickly and correctly. I thought to leave this review because it looks like I will be moving out of the DC area to Massachusetts in a couple of months and if there's one thing I really regret it's that Patrick and the team at S2 Dynamics won't be just a few miles away. Honestly I'm not sure what I'll do, I may just buy a new car in my new location so I can let the dealer there worry about it under warranty. Took my BMW here a few days ago for an oil change and to have them look at a couple lingering issues I had been having. I was happy with the work they did and will be bringing my car back here to have them work on the oil leak and door issue going on with my vehicle. I was especially impressed with how they dealt with the key fob issue I was having. I bought a new battery from Amazon and they had experienced similar problems with the exact same battery for the key fob. They replaced my battery with an OEM BMW battery at no cost. We have two Break My Wallets (BMWs). Recently, I get a recall to fix front passenger side air-bag for my 2000 BMW 323i. I took it to dealer for this recall and they performed a complimentary check up and wrote me a long list that needs to be fixed for the car. As a Ph.D. in mechanical engineer myself, I know a little bit about car and found the item needs to be fixed right away is the front control arm and bushing. My dilemma is "Should I fix it" or "should I sell it"? The car is still in good shape and the resell price to CarMax is about $3000. So, I decided to figure out how much does it cost to fix control arm and what other stuff need to be fixed in near future. I shopping around in many top BMW specialized repair places in Stonestreet and Parklwan (I am old customer of many of them) and decided to go with S2 Dynamics (first time). The main reasons are: 1). The owner of S2 dynamic, Pat. After I talk to him, I feel he really care about his customer and is a honest man. Also, he enjoys fixing car (BTW, he is a mechanics, not a manager). He is the main reason I decide to have them fix the car. 2). The warranty, is 2 years, 2400 miles for all fixes. Most of other places use cheap parts and hide from the 3 months warranty. 3). The price is reasonable. The service is good. 4). The car run very smoothly without any noise after changing the control arm and bush. One of the other reason I was not sure to keep the BMW is because I have not found a honest and reliable place for BMW repairs. I think I found one now. Highly recommended! read more

The difference between an auto shop you trust and one that you don't is huge. Most people don't have the expertise to be able to validate that the work being done by their shop is necessary and reasonably priced, so once you find a shop you trust, you don't switch. S2 Dynamics is my trusted shop. I've been going to Pat and his team for a couple of years, and have always been extremely pleased with the service they've provided. I found him by chance when another shop gave me an estimate that was completely unrealistic. Since then they've done large and small jobs on my VW. They're always flexible, professional, and the work stands up. In addition, they do a really nice job of making customers feel like clients. So many places treat you like an inconvenience if you're not a 'car guy'. Pat and his team are clearly experts, but they do a nice job of explaining the work being done to a civilian like me. My 2012 BMW 750 was running rough. As in if I hit the throttle too hard she'll go into limp mode. For anyone who doesn't know the N63 engine has some known problems that can be quite costly, to say the least. It is not BMWs finest engineering at all. I consider myself a weekend warrior and don't mind doing my own work. I'd rather pay my myself than pay the stealership any day. Needless to say I was nervous, but I knew it was time to change plugs and ignition coils. I ordered OE parts online got everything installed and uh oh she was doing a lot more than running rough. Multiple misfires in bank 2. Tried troubleshooting thinking maybe I got bad plugs or coils, to no avail. So I researched a suitable Indy shop and selected S2. Needless to say my skepticism is at high alert. I called an Indy shop one time in PG county and they told me it would cost a $1000 to do brakes on this car and if I wanted ceramic pads that would be a extra $150. There's nothing special about BMW brakes. They recommend you change rotors also but that ain't a $1000 job. Not their fault, they didn't know how often I've done that job on MANY cars and know there's no way in hell I would allow that to happen. Anyway, got the car towed to S2 and they called first thing in morning. Patrick was personable and immediately eased my fears. First he verified that I had done everything correctly and had not messed up anything or broken something. Second he confirmed they knew about this engine and it's problems and that he didn't think it was something like failing injectors. He stated he thought it was most likely coil boots not fitting properly on the plugs that may need shaving and ensuring the contacts were clean and seated. Even though I ordered oem parts they've seen issues like that before. He called a short while after and said I was all set. Whew! $258 included fixing the problem (it was exactly what he said), looking the vehicle over, testing, and making sure everything else was ok. BMW would've easily taken over a $1000 for that. Pickup was super simple. Paid online, received a text w/ a code for my lockbox to get my key, bam, done! Also told him about my Mini Cooper having a coolant leak (another BMW flaw) and he knew about that right away and knew the fix. So I'll be dropping that off next. I've found my Indy shop. I am pleased and recommend S2. They could've raked me over the coals on this but were honest and knowledgeable about my BMW. We also talked about what I was planning to do next and what I shouldn't do. Great advice! read more

The 5 stars are well earned. My 08 B7 A4 went into to sort out P1093 (I'm including these designations for future searches by others). This is an Audi specific code, no check engine light, that usually has a clear fix but not always. Pat meticulously went through every component of my fuel system and was able to find the solution. Any dealer and most Indy shops would have sent me home with my car with a "good luck hope it gets fixed". Bring your car to S2 for any and all services, I know I will continue to. read more

I had KW coilover installation done here and the owner seemed very knowledgable and reasonable person. Coilover installation went perfect and patrick even threw in a free VCD coding for my car. However, the mechanics working on the car seem to have forgotten to give me back coilover height adjustment tool. I called them about a day later but haven't heard back about the tool kit and it has been almost three weeks! 09-03-2015 Update: Pat called me as soon as he saw the review. I was looking around for a shop to dismount tires and found this place with good reviews. I called in the morning to see if they do walk ups for dismounting tires and they did. I got a quote and it was a fair price. I dropped it off signed some paperwork and paid beforehand. About an hour later I receive a text saying that its been finished. I've been going to Patrick and his team exclusively for any and all service on my 2007 BMW 525xi for probably 7 years now. While the car has been extremely reliable it's got well over 200,000 miles on it so 'we' have been through some big things like a major front-end rebuild and lots of little annoying things that these cars are 'famous' for like the trickling battery drain, and the normal stuff like a starter gone bad. He also brought it back to life when when the insurance company totaled it after having run over debris in the road that destroyed much of the bottom of the car, shattered the gas tank and battery box and box, shredded a tire and crushed a wheel - etc. I could not have been more happy with all aspects of the service in all of these interactions - always prompt and professional with the kind of integrity that is hard to find and I am always confident that he's addressing the things that need to be done, doing them the right way but always looking for ways to it as affordably as possible. I've recently started bringing my wife's 2012 Porsche Cayenne to him as well. I like to refer to the Cayenne as her garage ornament since after nearly 8 years it's only just turned 20,000 miles on the odometer. Despite the low mileage I started experiencing a "stutter" during shifting in the otherwise perfectly smooth performance of the car. It was subtle but definitely there. After doing some research it seems that a design flaw or a manufacturer's defect is common in the Transfer Case of these cars. The forums are full of stories of people literally spending 10's of thousands of dollars having their transfer case replaced multiple times in the course of 30-60K miles of driving. Despite the 20K on my car it was obviously out of warranty due to its age. The Porsche dealer confirmed that the stutter I was experiencing was due to a "failing Transfer Case". They said they were not aware of systemic issue, confirmed that Porsche would do nothing to offset the $5000 cost and replacing the unit was the only maintenance option. I called Patrick. I was not surprised to learn that Patrick was aware of the problem and also said that he's had some success changing the fluid in the unit augmented with a particular additive. As an aside I had asked the Porsche dealer whether changing the fluid was an option and he stated that the fluid is never changed in these 'sealed units' - not even a service they provide. Patrick did warn me that the fluid change may not be effective but suggested we try that for less than $300 before changing the unit which he would do for about $2000 less than the Porsche dealer if it was needed. After changing the fluid the car drives like new again. I've put about 1,000 miles on it in varied driving conditions and have not a single stutter. If you're looking for a place that assigns you a "service counselor" and sells sporty jackets, golf equipment, and key fobs in the lobby this is not the place for you. If you want a team that knows how to address your car's needs and approaches that with your best interest in mind you will not find a better place. For my own sake, though, I hope you continue going to the place that sells you key fobs because Patrick's already way too busy and getting an appointment can sometimes be a little challenging. read more
