(FYI: they have a small book selection that's incredible; books that are rare to find.) Dr. Eccles office was my answered prayer after a long-standing, hidden and scary tooth infection and my first biologic dentist. To date, they've saved two of my larger back teeth. Biomimicry is the way of the healing future and Dr. Ward Eccles is on the cutting edge, yet never pretentious & always down to earth. Care is always done with compassion. The office staff reflects the art of customer service. Audrey, Megan, and Elizabeth are absolute gems who always make you feel like family. Audrey is a wealth of knowledge and will always rise to meet you where you are to make sure you understand everything. Everyone has a great sense of humor but is also impressive when it comes to knowledge, skillset , professionalism and talent. Dr. Shah is my dentist with swag - she is her! I'm always educated on my options and they always start conservative. Dr. Mark is also wonderfully kind and steady-handed, as is Dr. Eccles himself. Dr. Renee is the absolute best and my dental hygienist Hoodah is top tier, her solid confidence is reassuring, she's thorough, gentle, humble, kind. I would say everyone there has a great bedside manner. Which is the new currency in this economy: top notch customer service. The ozone shots here optimize healing for a very affordable price. Imho- the star of the show. All of their prices are affordable. Care Credit makes cash pay easy. I make the drive from Antioch because they're worth it. I've learned so much from their quaint and friendly office and staff. I've been coming here for most of my life for teeth cleanings every 2 times a year, but I'll speak about ny most recent procedure. No idea what it was called, but hopefully to get my point across, I had to be numbed in all four corners of my mouth where my wisdom teeth had been pulled. Barely felt the syringes, to my surprise. The procedure went extremely well, even the blood draw for the ozone infusion, which I was most scared of given my low paint tolerance and fear of needles. The guy that did it was excellent, he and his other staff members, a woman with dark hair and a dripping rose tattoo on her forearm and Peter, a young man probably around my age, were all great and made the atmosphere more inviting, which helped ease my nerves a bit. I'd say the only thing I wasn't a fan of is that they didn't wipe my spit off of me if it happened to get on my face and when injecting my blood back into me throw my gums, it was pressed a bit too firmly in my bottom limp, causing discomfort/minor pain. I get my teeth cleaned by Houda(? I don't know how to spell her name, my bad!), and she's great. Makes good conversation, very relatable, and she's always welcoming and kind. read more

I would never use this dental practice ever again, I was referred to them, by a student, that, I think was getting kickbacks for referring new patients to the practice. I was charged over $400, after the fact, for "services" that I was told would be $104. After taking my debit card, she charged me over $400 and gave the receipt to my husband, who was unaware that I had not agreed to this amount. All I got was x-rays and an oral exam. I call that a bait and switch. The woman practitioner said that my gums were black and rotten after I told her that I was using a charcoal toothpaste, three times, which left a black residue around my teeth. I am a person of color, and I took this as a racist attack. She thought that she was being funny and laughed. If she were intelligent enough, I would find this really insulting, degrading and very unprofessional. Read the other negative reviews on yelp. something I did not do beforehand and wish I had. Don't walk away from these people, run away as fast as you can! And if a dental office says they will not accept your dental insurance, there is a reason. read more

I had a terrible experience at this place today! Instead of arranging my payments for the service. She charged me $150 no show fee. Standing right there in the office ready for the appointment. I was trying to collect the payment. She was asking me for $400 and saying she would make smaller payments for next visits. We had to do it this way because the insurance covered for less then expected so I found myself in a really bad place at this particular moment. I was able to collect $300 Because I didn't put the $400 together, she decided to charged me $150 no show fee. In the most sassy and sarcastic way she tells me to grab the receipt for the $150 payment. I didn't want a receipt just because I don't like to carry papers in my purse. I finally took it and she says in the most remarkable way says, "you can throw it in the garbage outside!" ??? I feel somebody just stole $150 from me! The most unkind and mean place ever. I had been going to Dr Eccles for some time. Years ago my mom had helped me schedule an appointment for a root canal--which went rather well so I continued going to this place as my general dentistry. Felt like it was quite difficult getting through the work I was supposed to get done. The charges I was getting were too much--including the fact my insurance didn't cover much as they're out of network. It also felt like some of my teeth were neglected. I had an open/broken filling but it was overlooked for a different tooth w/ a cavity but it wasn't open or anything.... I noticed Dr Eccles was rather rough with my face + mouth while undergoing these treatments too. Some of the workers are nice and can be quite helpful here. I honestly think they could be more gentle, ask if the client needs breaks during long appointments, etc. I hope no one else has to deal with teeth problems due to neglect, or just being uncomfortable. I would recommend doing your research and going somewhere else. read more

I sought out Dr. Eccles services because he was listed as a holistic dentist, and I was looking to have some old amalgam fillings removed. And while I did successfully get 2 fillings replaced and have had some issues with the teeth themselves, the degrading mistreatment, physical abuse, sanitary issues, medical assault, mixed-messages and other communication problems I experienced from Dr.Eccles is what has earned him this 1 star rating. BAD COMMUNICATION & MIXED MESSAGES: Firstly, I drove from 3 hours away to seek Dr Eccles services, because when I talked to the office, I was told that they do porceline inlays, which is what I wanted. But Once I got to my first appointment, the dr. gave me quotes for resin fillings. When I asked the Dr. about the porceline inlays, he seemed uncomfortably reluctant to quote them for me. I let him know that I would be paying out of pocket, so I would just like to know the cost of the inlays so that I could plan my procedure accordingly. He was still weirdly reluctant to give me a quote. I don't understand why he would say that he does porceline inlays, but acts mad when someone wants exactly that. It felt like he was trying to pressure me into getting resin when that's not what I asked for and not what I drove from 3 hours away for. This was very frustrating and my trust in him was hurt by this initial interaction. He finally did get me a quote for porceline inlays, but I had to insist 3 times before he did, and he gave an a pushy attitude. This was such an uncomfortable interaction, and foreshadowing for what was to come. As I was about to leave the office, I thought to myself that I should try to find annother dentist that actually does porceline inlays without a weird reluctance and attitude. But the front desk woman, reassured me as I was checking out that Dr. Eccles would like to do the inlays. Since it is difficult to find other dentists who do this procedure, I set up my next appointment to get the inlays. ABUSE & SANITATION ISSUES: It was during my next appointment that I experienced what I would consider to be abuse and sanitary issues. The Dr was very rough with my face and head. He grabbed and turned my face and head multiple times while working on me. He didn't even try to ask me verbally to turn my head. He just degradingly pushed my head around throughout the procedure. At one point he had dropped one of the porceline inlays on the floor and didn't bother to re-sterilize it before he placed it in my mouth. Then at some point he straight up sprayed me directly in my left eye with the water squirter. He didn't apologize or even acknowledge that he did this. ( I developed pink-eye in that same eye a day later.) ABUSE & MEDICAL ASSAULT: When he got to the part where he needed to adjust my bite, he ended up grinding down the wrong tooth. Even after I had pointed out that the tooth he was grinding wasn't the one contacting the new fillings and that I could feel pain on the tooth he was grinding. He still grinded it down to a nub and told me that it's not suppose to hurt....even though it did. I actually had to physically push him away from me to get him to stop grinding that tooth. I honestly consider this to be malpractice, physical assault, and dental mutilation. It felt violating. I consider this man to be a monster. And he didn't even grind the tooth that needed to be ground down to correct my bite. I had to go to another dentist to get that fixed. After experiencing all this, it's difficult for me to see dentists in general because of the extremely negative association. If you are looking to get amalgam fillings removed safely, DO NOT go here. High integrity, very experienced, no bs...and just a pleasant person :) I chose Dr. Eccles to do my mercury amalgam removal after extensive research and lots of calls to dentists around the bay area. He's been doing this work for a really long time, which was an important factor for me. And I just felt a really great vibe from him and his staff...high level of integrity. He didn't try to sell me on a bunch of unnecessary procedures, which I had experienced with the other dentist I was considering. But he also didn't skimp on anything and put a lot of care into doing everything well. He did a great job of getting my mouth back to a healthy place, and was really good at soothing my anxiety about the dentist. I find him to be very affordable (I paid for everything out of pocket). He is an hour drive from where I live (each way with minimal traffic!) and I feel it's worth the trip. I had a very positive experience and highly recommend him. Dr. Eccles is our favorite dentist. He is mercury free and fluoride free, too. He is a member of IAOMT (International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology). He is an expert of amalgam removal, taking extra precautions. Our whole family sees him, including my mom. We haven't had any issues regarding charges & payments like the other reviewers. The staff is very friendly and knows me & my family personally. I love that Dr. Eccles is also holistic and leads a natural lifestyle like myself. I live in Redwood City and drove all the way to Livermore to have Dr. Eccles perform root canal therapy. I choose Dr. Eccles based on the educational information presented on his website and a phone consultation with his very informative receptionist Audrey. This was my first root canal and I was concerned about the long term side effects of a conventional root canal. Unbeknown to me I had a pretty bad infection going on with this tooth and Dr. Eccles was able to treat the infection holistically with ozone and fill the root canal with heavy calcium oxide as in Endocal 10. The infection was so bad I needed to return to the office several times to treat it but in the end Dr. Eccles and his top notch assistant Rene patiently and methodically treated the infection and completed the root canal. If you are looking for a good competent biological dentist look no further than Dr. Eccles and his team. read more

Recently had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Eccles for a new patient exam followed by a cleaning. I wish I could remember the woman's name who did my cleaning but I felt like I had known her for years she was very outgoing and friendly. Be prepared to spend some time here! LOL All were great from beginning to end. I didn't feel pressured into anything X-rays, etc because my previous dental office failed to do their job and send over my records to them prior to my visit. I really did appreciate everything Doc had to say and how thorough he was . Although I consider to be An overall healthy person I'm glad I found this office and am a new patient! My experience is similar to other one described here by Matthew C. Because I was in pain, the tooth was diagnosed as needing to be extracted. However, the doc required a payment of $3,500 up front. I later found out from the dental insurance company that this is not SOP. I gave him $2,500, of which only $1,000 was used for the extraction and other work. It took me weeks to get a partial refund, and I am still waiting 60 days later to received the final payment. We spoke on the phone a week ago, and I was told that the "check would be in the mail." read more

He is trustworthy, gentle and treats you like a member of his family. His staff is also very easy to work with and friendly. Dr. Eccles has been my dentist for over 20 years. I am very satisfied with his expert level of dental care. I have never had after soreness or problems with any procedure he has done. His staff is very professional and friendly as well! I have no more amalgam fillings. I have to admit I was skeptical about the claims that mercury leaches out and causes problems, but have no more amalgam fillings and feel better about it! I convinced my mom to see him when her bottom partial broke and she could only eat soft foods. Dr. Eccles fashioned a device for her that is as natural as her own teeth! Dr. Eccles was the on call doctor Labor Day weekend 2015. I was at our cabin and was injured for the second time on my right front tooth. I had a post and crown that was knocked back so far that my tooth was removed but still attached from the gums. Dr, Eccles saw me A.S.A.P. He took x-ray, impression and replaced my tooth in the correct spot to get me by until my next appointment.The impression Dr. Eccles took was very important and I didn't realize it at the time. The impression allowed my Oral Surgeon to make a temporary and permanent tooth for an implant. Dr. Eccles was so very kind and accommodating! I really appreciated him taking time away from his family on a three day weekend to see me. It was a great experience and I highly recommend him! read more

I don't usually give 5 stars to Anybody/anything, but I do so for Dr. Eccles, with few reservations! He uses a digital x-ray machine (so lower doses of x-rays - which is v. important to me;) used a very small tooth-isolating dam instead of the usual whole-mouth ones, which I find very claustraphobia-inducing; and removed my mercury filling with the minimum of fuss, and with all necessary precautions. I was on a budget when I went to Dr. Eccles. I had pretty good teeth, but figured I hadn't seen a dentist in a while and went for a checkup expecting maybe a cavity. I also had a little pain in one tooth. Having been told I was on a tight budget, the doctor came up with a list a yard long of things I "needed" to have done to my teeth. The total was thousands of dollars. On asking for details, almost every item was unnecessary and minor. Previous dentists had never made any comment about any of these items, which turned out to be mostly cosmetic, and so minor in effect that probably nobody would ever notice the difference if I did have them done. None of them was an actual risk to any of my teeth. I reiterated that I was NOT going to have all that work done, and asked him what was the most critical item. He said that the root canal in the tooth that was bothering me was crucial. It was also the most expensive. He did the root canal, which made no difference at all in the pain. It clearly did not need to be done. I'm still paying for it years later, and I still have the pain. No dentist since then has mentioned any of these items needing to be done. If you value your wallet, run. If you're a movie star, subject to extreme closeups, maybe he's your guy. If you're rich, go ahead and see him. You can help him pay off his mortgage. read more

I went to Dr. Eccles in 2008 because I was searching for a holistic dentist. The recommendation that he gave me was anything but holistic and is still causing me trouble and expense today. My front tooth had a veneer on it due to being hit in the mouth with a softball decades earlier and had turned slightly gray. never gave me problems. but just b/c of this, he recommended a root canal. No proper biological/holistic dentist would recommend a root canal on a tooth that is giving me NO problems. But stupidly, I took his advise and got the root canal. my tooth then gave me problems of chronic infection. months later I found another holistic dentist and had the tooth extracted. Next came the pain of having your front tooth removed, wearing a flipper that is worse when eating than wearing a condom when...very annoying. so I got a maryland bridge. which caused me to develop TMJ because of how my tongue retracts from it and how I hold my mouth now and more frequent headaches due to the size of it. I had to go back for about 11 adjustments/pairing down in 2009 (all of which was thousands of dollars). Now, since it's been pulling on my other tooth, I will need to get this bridge removed for the danger of losing my other front tooth. My options? a $5000 implant (zirconia) that will probably not take due to auto-immune condition or another very invasive feeling partial or flipper. Following Dr. Eccles advise on having that root canal has added so much expense and stress in my life over the past 7 years. I really feel he should be financially responsible for this at the very least. but I will not pursue this due to the fact tht I was the idiot to agree to it.
