Hubby and I shopped Tokunaga's from their Keawe Street location. Small family store filled to the brim with anything and everything fishing! Mr Earl Tokunaga even drilled bowling balls way back then! So kind to everyone. Used to go down to Wailoa Boat ramp and as the fishing families kids were swimming off the dock. Mr Tokunaga would throw quarters into the water for the kids to dive for! Hilo harbor Lurline days! Such fun! Mrs Ethel Tokunaga was a force to be reckoned with! Loved her! She always had a great knowledge of fishing/ocean supplies and always greeted you by name. Good Prices, Good Selection, Friendly Staff! I was referred to the shop buy another shop that didn't have the size of free diving fins I was looking for. The shop definitely had a good selection of sizes but the free diving fins section is pretty unorganized. I asked the new kid for some help finding my size and he seemed polite and told me to let him know if I needed any help. I laughed and said that's what I'm letting you know I need help finding my size and he helped but didn't seem to really know what was going on. Eventually I just found my size by myself and bought my fins. The Asian girl with the blue eyes at the checkout counter was super friendly and funny. Other than that this is also an interesting store where you can get your fishing gear, Guns, free diving gear and lots of other stuff. Personally, I don't claim to be the biggest outdoorsman. A fishing trip here, a camping trip there, but nothing crazy. That being said, S. Tokunaga is absolutely THE one-stop shop anytime I need something for myself or anyone else, in that regard. It's a no-brainer. You could walk in there empty-handed and basically come out ready for a week of offshore fishing. They will have you decked the f out. And it's not just fishing--they've got you for diving, hunting, the aforementioned camping, etc. The staff are never not helpful and are extremely knowledgeable. Something I think people of all experience levels can appreciate. There's really not much more to say about Tokunaga's. Anyone worth their salt knows that they're the go-to. This store is awesome. A must visit when coming to the big island if you love fishing. It's huge and packed with everything from lures to firearms and everything else to enjoy under the sun and under water. It's easy to get distracted from whatever reason you came here for. I usually come here when I'm in Hilo for some hammer bombs (cheaper than Honolulu) or floaters but always find myself lost in the firearms section or looking at the fishing rods and forgetting what I actually came here for. If you are like me and love fishing, you seriously need to check out S Tokunaga Store! They are literally stocked to the "gills" with anything you'll need for whatever the type of fishing you're planning on doing. Come here planning to spend at least an hour or so because there is just that much stuff!! Excellent selection of rods, reels, line, lures, you name it! I saw folks that looked like they owned boats and were looking for trolling gear, ulua fishermen, shoreline fishermen, all seemed content that they could find what they needed. They also have a wide selection of apparel, shirts, jackets, etc. My favorite section had to be the lures. They carry so many different types of surface lures, flies, spoons, a really impressive selection! I ended up picking out a bunch of artificial lures that I hadn't seen before! They also have a lot of very knowledgeable and friendly staff who will help you with anything you may need to know or purchase. It's obvious that this is a hometown store and it's also a happy place with a lot of smiling faces! this store does not stand behind what they sell i bought a 100.00 dollar rod on january 21,2019 used the rod one time on january 26 2019 realized it was flawed took back to store on january 27,2019 to exchang it not to ask for refund. the store said no because it was used, wtf are you kidding me? how am i supposed to know if it has flaws if i dont fish with it? this tells me that they are out to make a buck and thats it they dont care about what they are selling as long as they sell it. trust me i spent alot of money in this store for years i fish alot and its a very expensive hobbie we all know that. but this store is useless if they dont have a return or exchange policy. take your money to j-hara in keaau they have a very good selection and they care and back up what they sell. you know whats funny is i told them what was wrong with the rod you know what they told me? put wax on it. lmao, really they also never have anything instock. do your self a favor go in to the store look at what you want and save your self the 80% mark up and buy it from amazon.. and they wonder why local businesses is failing this store is a example of what not to do.. no return or exchange policy thats crazy. now i have to go through okuma and probably wait weeks until it gets fixed or replaced. read more

WOW, what an upgrade from their other store! Was blown away by ALL the new stuff and the variety of all the outdoor toys I wanted...even guns and ammo! All the stuff you need for offshore or on shore fishing. Went there for rod repairs, and they couldn't do it for the right price, but I understand where they were coming from. No BS.
