With my Aloha Grown hat - Makapu'u light house trail
    Lorie G.

Whenever Im in Hilo, this is one of my favorite places I go to shop for local Made in Hawai'i merchandise. My favorite item is their trucker hats. I have a small head, and have a hard time finding a nice hat with a design I like. Fortunately, Aloha Grown has that. Plus, I love going around the world and taking pics with my hat on and throwing a shaka to represent where I am from. Also, I appreciate that they give a 10% discount to kama'aina if you show your driver's license. The staff is always warm and friendly - pointing out that they have a sales rack in the back of the store. So, as long as Aloha Grown is in Hilo, I will be going there to get my hats (they also have clothing and accessories too).

Still one of my favorite places to get clothing in Hilo. Everyone is so friendly and the clothes fit and wear really well. I love looking at the new designs and colors.

Nice shop set up downtown. I like coffee mugs and the one I got from here had definitely turned into one of my favorites. The store is pretty cool too. They have an assortment of items from shirts to stickers, and the staff is welcoming.

Tshirt and mask I purchased. Everything else I got is souvenirs and won't post until after the gifting the recipients.

We walked into the store just to window shop, and were greeted by Auntie (Bev? Or Luana?) who was wearing the 2023 Merrie Monarch Festival tshirts which the store prints. That's so awesome! She and her younger coworker were so so welcoming. Not just to us but to everyone who walked in the door. She invited us to try on clothing, and to ask if we had any questions. She told us about the foundation of the store-that we should support local, be aloha and to take care of our 'aina. She was talking to another couple about going to Hawaiian Style Cafe in Waimea-another place we love. She also told us to go to Edith Kamaka'ole Stadium to get some posters, T-shirts from previous festivals, etc. I found a few things here to bring home as souvenirs, and my husband just told me that if I didn't purchase anything, he was going to purchase anything just because we felt so welcome. We want an Auntie like her on the mainland. I think I might have gone into the store years ago when I was looking for a T-shirt to support Puna. I really love this store. I would've spent more if I had more room in my suitcase.

I'm originally from O'ahu and was excited to see Alohiwais sign when my sister and I were walking…read moredown the row of stores. We decided to go in to check it out since their sign still said open. Mind you, I always go to Ho'omau Market and always buy stuff from their booth back home on O'ahu. I also just wanted to say that I sometimes see the owners at Ho'omau and they're SO nice and so inviting, girls working there are also very nice. But this one girl today, omg. So there were two girls on 6/9/26 at a couple of minutes before 4. One of the two girls were okay, but the other... let me tell you. I picked something up to try on because I have had my eye on this style of dress online for the longest time and was excited to see it in person. I was going wait for them to come to O'ahu but thought since I'm on vacation, I thought maybe I wouldn't have to wait to get it. Alohiwai is actually one of the first stores I always choose being a VIP at Ho'omau. I was in the dressing room trying on the one dress I took in, LOVED it, decided I was going to make a last minute purchase, and was almost about to come out, when I hear the other girl of the two say, "hey.. so we close at 4 and it's 4:04. So you kinda need to wrap it up" I didn't say anything because I was actually taken aback. I didn't get to see what she looked like, but my sister did. This girl worker, btw, was wearing an off the shoulder white top with curly hair and has tattoos on her shoulders 6/9/26 @ 4:04pm (& yes, I know the exact time to the minute since this worker was in a rush to get home). This worker lacked SO much professional ediquette. In the moment, I was in shock to have been talked to that way from a brand I actually REALLY loved and wanted to go back inside the store, but thought writing a review would be better. (couldn't if I wanted to because they were 4 minutes past closing time) Overall, I'm disappointed and just thought that that first experience IN STORE was a sour one. I ended up not buying anything in store because I felt rushed with the store being closed for 4 minutes. The unprofessional worker was assisting another customer and was being so helpful and professional with her, so maybe she took out her frustrations of wanting to go home right at 4:00pm on the dot with me? Not sure. But I took my business down to all the other stores down the row with better customer service. This experience was so negative for me that I'm questioning taking my business for Ho'omau this weekend when I get back home to O'ahu. Always love shopping at their booth, but for sure NEVER coming back to their home location.
