Quality work, professional, and personable, a great combination! I don't know if you can find a better spot. I'm happy to have met Luis, his work is very professional. read more

Quality work at an affordable price. After trying to sharpen some knives myself using whetstone, my knives were still fairly full. I checked out some shops before deciding on SL Service based on the photos and positive reviews I saw. Luis was very professional and I was in and out of the shop in about 10 minutes with some very sharp knives. The difference in how they cut now is night and day. The best part is the knives have zero scratches and still look brand new. I can't recommend this business enough. read more

Excellent knife sharpening service, my set of knives is life new. Fast and communicative.

You never remember you need to get a knife sharpened until you hear the afilador serenading you with the sounds of vague Ice Cream Truck music! Once you get over your sadness that you won't be having a Rocket Pop, you wished you had that dull knife on you to bring it back to life. Having never been able to coordinate having knife in hand when the Knife Sharpening truck rolls by; I went about looking for a stationary sharpener. Something that's harder to do then one might think in Miami. I found a few but settled on SL Service. I spoke to the owner Louis before I went in. He was nice and polite and explained the process thoroughly. There were no pictures of his work on Yelp, so I wanted to make sure he wasn't going to grind away on my poor knives and leave 1/2 inch of scratches along the blade. I saw some poor craftsmanship by other places, so I was weary. I took 3 knives. The price was super reasonable, and the sharpening was done while I waited. It took no longer than 15 minutes in total. They came out nice and sharp and scratch free! They have since been used to do some heavy duty cutting and are holding their edges just fine so far. So, if you are fighting with your food instead of cutting it you need to drop into SL Service and get those edges done. read more

As a dog stylist in Coral Gables, FL (my temporary home), it was critical for me to find a reliable, skilled sharpener and repair shop for the beautiful shears that allow great styling for my customers. SL Service is exactly that trusted partner... the owner is kind and knowledgeable, and recently did me an enormous favor with service while I waited, after I accidentally dropped my Kenchii 7 inch curves right before a scheduled Asian Fusion groom! This business has your back, and they will take the utmost care with your precious tools. Highly recommend!!! read more

Great service and very affordable! Brought my high end Japanese Shun knives for sharpening. They sharpened them perfectly in a day at a much cheaper price than going to a retail store. Highly recommend. read more

Luis is AMAZING. I called this morning after a brief Google search and went over around Noon - thankfully, he was located just 15 minutes from my office. He immediately handled my unique need (large commemorative scissors for ribbon cuttings that needed a good sharpening) and found a way to sharpen them even with their large size. I love small businesses like this - they are the fabric of our community and so essential. And owners/operators like Luis make them even better. Thank you Luis and SL Service! read more

I have been using SL Service to sharpen my professional-quality French high carbon steel kitchen knives for years. Luis always does a highly competent job of bringing all of my knives to a very fine edge, for a very reasonable price. Proper knife sharpening is a skill that requires training and patience. Luis has both. Plus, he is a very, very nice guy. Chatting with him always is a pleasure. In short, if you live in Miami and need your knives, or scissors, sharpened, go to SL Service. You will be pleased. read more

Customer Service like the Old Days! Luis Goldgewicht is the owner and the guy who actually does the work. He really is an old fashioned craftsman. He's honest, knowledgeable and efficient. I brought in an old fair of pinking shears, a family heirloom. He said he wasn't sure if the shears could be sharpened because of the wear pattern on them. But he DID IT! Not only was he able to sharpen our old shears, he did it while I waited. This was truly service at its BEST. Thank you, Luis!!! read more

A local business worth supporting. In our modern days, folks that repair things instead of just throwing it away are rare. The store was easily located; directly in front of the turn-in to the parking lot. We had 4 kitchen knives sharpened (while we waited approx. 10 min), for a minimal cost. He even went as far as to straighten some that had bent at the tip! Great customer service all around! read more

Talked to Luis about repairing my very old Sunbeam Mix Master mixer on Monday. He was sure he could help. As promised, he got my mixer cleaned up and working in no time!!! Price was extremely reasonable and he was a delight to work with!!! Just wish he was a bit closer.... Had I known he could sharpen knives, I would have packed them in the box as well...Wow! Thanks so very much for sharpening my kitchen knives! I came in with 3 dull knives and left shortly with sharp ones. Great service, friendly, and professional. I have found my source for keeping my knives in good shape. read more

Over the years I've invested in a good collection of kitchen knives which have, over the years, lost their edges. I took them to a few places, including one of those trucks that people speak of, with results from so-so to terrible. The last time I vowed to not make the same mistake and searched a bit before selecting S L Service. They were a bit out of the way for me but well worth the extra drive. He did an excellent job and my investment is protected for the forseeable future. Most highly recomended read more

A customer service example! It's no easy to find a business that works the old fashion way, the good way, where working hard is the most important part of the business in order to satisfy the customers. I brought my knifes for sharpening after business hours and the clerk received me with open hands and happy to help me since Work didn't allow me to arrive earlier. Higly recommend this place! read more

I found this shop on Yelp and the reviews seemed quite good so I decided to give S L Service a try. I have decent quality Henckels kitchen knives that were in need of sharpening after about a year and a half of use. The owner was very knowledgeable about knives and sharpening, and impressed me with his explanation of the process, and how I can care for my knives. Although I was expecting to drop them off, he sharpened them on the spot while I waited, which only took a few minutes for my 3 knives. When I got home and started using them, I felt as if I was using brand new knives. Next time I won't be waiting so long to make my next trip to S L Service on Coral Way. I'm recommending this place to my friends, and I recommend it for all you Yelpers out there who want to bring your knives back to life. read more

Realized just a few days before Christmas that I hadn't sharpened my knives for all the cooking we were going to be doing. So, relocating to Miami from NY just 10 months ago for business purposes, and not familiar with where to get my expensive Global knives sharpened, amongst other knives (approximately 10 knives in total), I referred to YELP, and it did not fail me. The great reviews swayed me to SL Service! At first, being just a few days before Christmas with so many knives needing sharpening, it seemed as though I might not be getting them back in time, but Luis said he would do the best he can. I guess he saw the look in my eyes (was wearing a mask, so can't say look on my face ), because he called the next morning, and the knives were done, ready to be picked-up and in time to prepare Christmas dinner! I've had my knives sharpened many times in NY, and usually when my go-to shop is unavailable, I'm disappointed with the results. I can't say that about the work Luis did on my knives. They were sharpened to new-like condition! The entire process from dropping off to picking-up was professional, courteous, knowledgeable, reasonable and fast. Luis was solely responsible for it all! No need to look anywhere else for your knife sharpening needs. read more

I am a person that appreciates good customer service and the gentleman that owns this business is a true professional. I called ahead and he was very friendly. I Googled a place to have my scissors sharpened and even though it is not that close to my house, I drove there anyway after talking to the owner on the phone. He said if it was just one pair, he would do it as I waited which is what he did. He was very professional and not expensive. I highly recommend his business. read more
