If I could give SL Construction 10 stars, I would! After speaking to at least 8-10+ different…read morecontractors and/or handyman (who claimed to be contractors but had no license or proof to show), let's just say that the hunt to find someone trustworthy, timely and within our budget was like finding a golden needle in a haystack! Firstly, SL Construction was reasonably priced compared to others who were looking to up charge us more than double. I'm not a contractor so I can't specifically tell if the materials were vastly different to justify the difference in price etc, but what I appreciated was SL's timeliness in getting back to us asap, their really thorough follow up via email and text, and that they were legit. I also changed the scope of what exactly I wanted to do several times (adding projects, changing materials) and they were patient and more than accommodating each time. We were also able to verify all their licenses, insurance and all the stuff a contractor should have with the DCCA. Our scope of work was a few items, including: 1) repairing a rotted wood lanai, fully waterproofing, replacing the tile, and busted wood posts, and rotted wood under tile. 2) adding custom railings to 2 outdoor lanais that needed to be fitted exactly to existing metalwork. 3) completely transforming a 90s bathroom (and I changed the scope of work a few times ) 4) tiling another bathroom so it didn't give 90s ick vibes Through the process, I was able to pick my materials and work closely with them via text, email and a shared Google excel tracker as my working document so I didn't loose my mind with all the small but important details. They were incredibly easy to work with in choosing my materials from Amazon, Lowes, Home Depot and Golden Cabinets and picked all the items up. While the crew is heavily Chinese speaking only, working with their project manager, Maggie, is a dream! I will admit that sometimes the crew didn't exactly understand me, but it was super small stuff like moving a cabinet over a few inches, re-installing a faucet so the knobs were the correct way, etc. Anything that I had an issue with was easily remedied by Maggie, whom I mostly communicated with via text. In addition, I've had several "oh s*it!!" moments come up with other things in our aging home (nothing they did, but other things I've since found) and Maggie has been so quick and helpful to send out her team or try to find solutions that aren't gonna break the bank. I really appreciate their steadfast customer service and making you feel like you aren't just a number or an invoice. Further, the team kept our house immaculate - the floor was covered each day, and nothing was left a mess or left evidence that a construction team had been there. Cannot recommend enough!!!! 10+ stars!!!! Bravo! Photos are added below but not in order. You'll get the jist however!

We decided to start with electrical. I found SL by putting in a Yelp project for electrical work, and scoring because they were a general contractor and could address ALL of our needs!!! Over the past 4 months, we worked with SL to get what we wanted done, and we also added some new work because they gave us an excellent offer, managed all the work for us, and delivered excellent results. The leader, their laborers, their carpenter, their partners, and Maggie are so wonderful to work with. While waiting for permits to upgrade our meter and move our electrical line, they worked on the trench and poured concrete (hand mixing 120 bags of concrete!!!), replaced our garage roof, replaced our garage doors, removed an aluminum roof attached to the main house, and built a new roof and extended the roof line. They coordinated with HECO to upgrade our electrical service, moved our box, upgraded our electrical service, rewired our upgraded interior box, and just finished with new gutters now that the electrical line was no longer hopping from the garage to the house. They understood that I wanted things neat, clean, and aesthetically pleasing. We will now start saving for future projects, but we will look no further and will call SL as soon as we are ready to start on a new project. We are beyond lucky that we found them. Give them a call, you will not be disappointed. #concrete #roofing #woodwork #painting #caulking #electrical #gutters

I decided to contact the installer because the time from on to AC blower actually working exceeded 5 mins. I contacted KW on Aug 4th and they slow rolled me until finally showing up to look at the unit on Aug 19. The technician left saying he contacted the manufacture (Rheem) and he would get back to me. Well today, Aug 20 my system is completely down. I called KW again and they said they would order an electrical board and fan motor. Overall service response time has been POOR and now I'm out of AC for who knows how many days until the parts arrive. If they would have simply responded to my request for service at the beginning of the month I would not be without AC.

Despite what US mainlanders imagine, working in Hawai'i is no vacation when your "open-concept, breezy island workspace" doubles as a wind tunnel every time the landscapers roll by during a video work meeting. The new system's smart controls and quiet performance have transformed that sweltering, armpit-like corner into a functional workspace in my work office garage. After surveying four or five vendors for both AC and electrical work, Kawika AC was one of the few able to handle both quickly and seamlessly. They scheduled everything back-to-back over the same weekend I was available -- no nonsense, no delays, just efficient execution. Their team was down-to-earth, professional, and didn't try to upsell oversized or unnecessary units like some others did. Pricing was fair, realistic, and the workmanship was excellent. Highly recommend Kawika AC for anyone who values fast, honest, and high-quality service done right the first time. ALOHA AND THANK YOU!

They even attended a meeting in which they addressed various concerns from management to unit owners. My take prior to dealing with Ohana was that all of these companies all very similar other than who has a GC license and who doesn't but I've been sadly mistaken. Speed, timing, responsibility and reliability is everything and makes the world of difference when it comes to not only operations but for the affected Units. For this I am extremely appreciative to Ohana Construction.

She apologized for not being able to get me in the week I called but was able to fit me in the next week - which was faster than I had expected! The technician came at the quoted time and took about an hour, which is how long they had told me on the phone. It says something about other companies on island that this is a noteworthy comment! He was very friendly and worked quickly and efficiently. He showed me the visible spots he had cleaned, but the best thing is now our AC is back to being icy cold - I had to bump it up to make it warmer! - and it smells nice and clean. I paid in cash (there is a fee if you use card. You can also write a check if you prefer). We will definitely be happy to use this company again in the future!
