When I go out and eat dinner at any restaurant I am often asked how I enjoyed my meal. For the greater majority of the time I answer "good. I enjoyed it" but I never really elaborate on why I liked the food. Normally, a restaurant is just a restaurant; a place that you can go to, sit down, order your food and enjoy a meal. This time is different though. I recently ate at a soup restaurant named "Süp" (pronounced soup) and it sent me on a whirlwind of emotion and thought. I was infatuated with the decorations and atmosphere of the entire restaurant, the wait staff was outstanding and, lastly, what made this restaurant so great were the delectable soups that titillated the tongue and warmed the throat as they streamed from mouth to stomach. Süp is a delightful restaurant that has an impeccable atmosphere, a wonderful wait staff and amazing food.
Walking up to the building, I was a little apprehensive. It was a small restaurant tucked between two larger structures that made Süp seem almost insignificant. Upon entering I soon realized that it was anything but insignificant. There were tables and tables all filled with happy patrons which gave the room a cheerful air, and as the night wore on the air did not fade in the slightest. After ordering my party and I sat at a booth/ table. Now, normally I find those to be rather annoying to sit at but it suited this restaurant. The booth seats lined the walls with the chairs and tables all following neatly. In the middle of the meal I began to notice all the artwork that enveloped the walls. There were abstract paintings that let the mind interpret anything it could imagine and paintings of people that were simply breathtaking. I recall thinking about one painting and being reminded of my grandmother; it was of a sweet looking woman who was slim and had a very kind smile. All in all, the atmosphere made me feel very at home and welcome in this place of business.
The waitress who took our order was very pretty. She had freckles running from her nose to her rosy cheeks. With the most genuine smile on her face she said "hello, how are you folks doing today?" leaving me with an overwhelming feeling that she genuinely care how my day was going. When we all told her that we were doing well she replied "well I'm glad. Now what can I get for you?" all without losing her winning smile. All throughout dinner the waitress would occasionally stop by our table to ask if we were enjoying our meal and if we needed anything. The water I was drinking never reached the bottom of my cup she always came in time to make sure I had an adequate amount to drink. This waitress went above and beyond her call of duty as a server to make absolutely certain that my party and I were feeling cared for and taken care of. The best part of the meal by far though, was the soup.
When reading the menu I became enthralled in all the different types of soups they offered. There were chowder based soups and broth based soups, they had classics like chicken and tomato, ones o had never heard of such as broccoli cheddar. Süp did not just sell soup, they also had some sandwiches but none of the sandwiches tickled my fancy as much as the soups did. With all the possible choices I could hardly decide but one soup rose victorious above all others in my decision. I knew I had to have the broccoli cheddar. We had been finished ordering and were chatting when our food came. It took only a few minutes for my food to arrive which impressed me greatly, I honestly did not expect for it to come out with that sort of speed. I am always happy with a speedy meal because I do not like to wait for my meal to come. Anyhow, I took one sip of that soup and fell in love. I could taste every little piece of broccoli and the cheddar that the name assured I would taste. What really got me going though was actually a little cookie that they placed on my plate beside my soup. It was a delightful little thing that was oatmeal raisin flavored which I thought was quaint and a nice surprise although I do have one complaint. The cookie was very small and I wish it were bigger but that being said, it does not really matter because I did not go to Süp for its cookies.
The moment came when my party had to leave and when we were leaving I felt completely satisfied with my meal and the experience that came along with it. I loved the quaint home feeling that I found in the restaurant, the lovely waitress who served our table and most of all; the food that we ate at that fine establishment. Overall, I give it 5 stars. read more
