Incredibly slow and disorganized service. Cashier looked confused when I asked for a receipt, and then I waited for 15 minutes for a sandwich. When I inquired about its status they told me that they were out of the bread my sandwich is on. We've gone twice, once for breakfast sandwiches and once for lunch. It's a cute, clean little cafe with a lovely back courtyard with extra seats. The staff at the counter are always very friendly, even saying "Thank you!" when you leave. All in all the atmosphere, while very busy on a Sunday afternoon (seriously, there was a line almost out the door! even though it moved quickly), was quite pleasant. And even with the influx of people, they moved in and out quickly enough that it wasn't a problem to grab a table out back. As for the food, it's a little pricey but totally worth it--everything was so fresh, and even though they're simple sandwiches (the one I had today only had four ingredients) the deliciousness lies in their simplicity and freshness. The breakfast sandwiches came on toast (several choices--I got white, boyfriend got multigrain, both were good); I would have liked the bacon maybe a little crispier and the egg maybe a little more yolk-y, but you couldn't beat the flavors. The coffee's also not bad. The lunch sandwich was heavenly though. I got the Tucson, which is just thinly sliced turkey, thinly sliced red onions, Swiss cheese, and chipotle mayo, pressed on a sourdough roll. It wasn't very spicy but it was quite savory and satisfying. The sandwiches are just the right size; not too big, not too small. My boyfriend got a grilled cheese (cheddar) with tomato on multigrain that I took a little bite of, and it was also pretty good. If I still lived around here, I'd totally be a regular. read more

AMAZING sandwiches and so many options! There is very limited seating here, especially in the winter. The coffee is good and they do have an outdoor seating area in the back. If you have not had their scones....change that. I cannot tell you how great their Ham and Swiss or their Bacon Cheddar scones are fresh from the oven. I enjoy the rest of the menu as well having sampled many of the lunch sandwiches as well but hands down are these two scones. I'm pretty excited to have discovered this year-old family owned sandwich shop in my neighborhood. Rybread has a really great origin story which makes me want to support them even more. The sandwiches are delicious and made with care. The only downside to customers is that there are often lines. If you are willing to stand outside or in the slim hallway to wait 10 or so minutes for your breakfast or lunch sandwich then I highly recommend Rybread! read more

I have been so excited for Rybread to open and they did not let me down. On my first trip I tried their signature sandwich, the "Rybread" crabcake sandwich and it was out of this world! They bake their ENORMOUS crabcakes on the premises and mine came straight from the oven. The bread that it was served on was super fresh and my sandwich was so good that I came back the very next day to try something else (the Philadelphia, also fabulous!). What a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. Fairmount has been in need of a place like this for a long time! Can't wait to go back again soon! read more

Go here often because I live close. But went today for take out, got their house salad which I order with no onions. They clearly put onions on it and the girl working the front noticed because I realized she took the salad back to the back kitchen. When I got home I could smell the onions and saw she tried to pick them off but didn't even pick them all off still had raw onions on it! If you noticed wouldn't you just make a new salad??? Really delicious! I live and work closeby, so I'm so happy for this place to be open. They have a variety of sandwiches and were able to satisfy both my vegan sister and my carnivorous self! A tad on the slow side, even though there were 3 guys on the counter, but hopefully that works itself out once they're open longer. All in all, definitely worth a visit. read more

We woke up really early on a Sunday and we looked for a good place to go. After checking out OCF down the street, we decided to go here. Very beautiful area, right next to the old prison (which, for those who don't know, is an historical landmark and tourist attraction). My gf got the Tuscon panini, which was very, very good. She also got the orange juice, which may have been the best orange juice I have ever had. Not too sweet and not too tart, but just right. I got the Alexandria panini, which I thought was ok. Her panini was filling enough for her, but mine wasn't quite enough for me. They seemed to have a lot of good-looking bakery treats so maybe I should have grabbed one of them. On the downside, it's pretty tiny on the inside. There are three tables and six seats in a small area where you pretty much have to wait for your food, plus all the stuff that goes with your coffee is right in that area as well. On the other hand, there's a good amount of outdoor seating. One of the employees was really nice and friendly and greeted people as they walked in. The other two I talked to were reasonably polite. read more

Rybread, oh how I will miss not being a few blocks away from you. There's nothing like a good sandwich, and these are right up there with the best. Certainly the best I've had so far in Philly. A teeny family owned spot with it's own unique personality. Rybread is the sandwich/pastry/coffee shop you wish you lived near. The owners and workers are the friendliest, and give the shop a homey feel. Whether you go during the week or on the weekend, there is sure to be a line, but you don't mind waiting. Prices are average to expensive, and everything is good. They have something for every taste from salads to sandwiches to baked goods to coffee and tea. My two favorites are the Napa and the Savannah, but I'm gonna go ahead and blindly recommend everything there. Tip: opt to sit out front instead of sitting in their seating area out back, as it tends to either be burning up or freezing. Tip 2: ask for your sandwich grilled. If you're taking it to go it might be a mess when you get it home, but it'll taste delish. Tip 3: Fairmounters, they deliver during the week! read more

There's lots about this place that could be really great. Delicious sandwich combos and good varied salads. Been a few times now and have had a few repeated issues / gripes. It's a shame as they'd be easy to fix. Firstly, the sandwiches... not toasted by default (why not ask customers if they want them toasted at the point of order as a general courtesy?), and swimming in mayo. Stomach-churning amounts of mayo. The staff could be way more friendly. There's a bit of a "we're too cool for school" going on here. The lines can't help matters but they should have a better system in place for getting through it quicker and being more friendly at the same time. Whatever happened to service with a smile? Last and most importantly, very unwelcoming to dogs (and humans!). We asked for some water for our dog as we were sitting outside and were told no, we don't do that. We asked for some water for ourselves and were also told no!!! This has happened on more than one occasions. They have taps and running water, so why so mean as to not provide a thirsty pup and paying customers with a glass of water with their sandwich and coffee?? Just bizarre. This place should be great, but just isn't. There are other places in the neighborhood that do a great job. Not sure we'll bother again. read more
