Before March 20th of this year I was working downtown honolulu and to avoid the traffic of driving to Waipahu just to cut my hair I saw this new salon coming to the area... Looking into the windows and thought to myself WOW I loved the set up and said I'm gonna try this place. As we all know trying to find that new hairstylist to replace the old especially after seeing the same person for over 10 years again I refused to make that drive after a loong day at work. Well! I'll have you know that I finally made my 1st appt with Alysse and till today am soooo HAPPY not only with Alysse cutting/styling my hair the way I see it fit but to the "T"... but not too forget the friendliest staff and the place itself makes you feel so at home... MAHALO NUI LOA Alysse and to Ryan Jacobie and staff for fulfilling my hair needs and for taking such good, good care of me everytime I visit... 10 THUMBS UP!! Good luck to all of you and keep up the good works and SMILES... ;) read more

I found Siera on Yelp after searching for a week for a stylist who could do my Keratin Treatment. She was so nice, flexible with my schedule, and did an AWESOME job. I cant wait to do my balayage with her in a few weeks, but I recommend everyone to go see Siera for a Keratin treatment! Thank you, siera!! read more

I'm so happy I found this place through Groupon! When I called to make an appointment, I already felt the connection. Hairstylist Allen took my call and scheduled my appointment for that weekend. It's been about 2 years from the last time I had cut my hair. Allen took the time to educate me about my hair and gave me an amazing haircut, deep conditioning, head/neck massage and beautiful curls! I totally loved what Allen has done to my hair! Allen is an amazing hairstylist I look forward to seeing him again!!! read more

Like others have said, it's a cute and quaint salon with very friendly and professional folks. Very unpretentious people and atmosphere. I can't stand those types of salons, where the stylists are sizing you up (Btw, there's one on Ala Moana Blvd....). The salon's owner and namesake, Ryan, is so friendly. Talked to me like I've known him for a while, even though I just met him that day. I initially met my stylist Kylie at Ulupono Academy when she was a student (even as a student she had skills =). Actually, all the folks at this salon were trained or were the trainers at Ulupono, so the way they operate is consistent and professional. I have thick and stubborn, straight-as-a-door-nail, hair and it's hard for me to find stylist who can tame my mane or doesn't give me grief for wanting to keep it long. Kylie is efficient, quick and knows her layers! She gave me her professional interpretation of the haircut I wanted. Plus, how you know its a quality cut? Because, even if I just wash and go and my hair air dries, the cut lays on my head like its been styled. That's the difference you pay for. And I was done in less than an hour. And the prices aren't even bad either. $35. I paid that much at Paul Brown for this dude (will not name or describe) and he took over 2 hours to cut my hair and didn't even do anything noticeable! That was horrible. So definitely I will be back. My recap: Pros: -Location: I'm biased I work a block away but its easy to get to and there's ample parking across in the lot or on the street. -Atmosphere: Although not the sleekest or fanciest salons on Oahu, it's clean, modern and very warm/welcoming. -The people watching: The salon has large picture windows with views of the water and all the interesting people who walk around downtown. -The products:Paul Mitchell products so you know they're quality. Cons: -Gladly, none so far! read more

I didn't intend for this to happen... it really was supposed to be just a fling... but I'm seriously thinking of leaving my old stylist for Kylie. I really liked my previous stylist but Kylie was just down the street and much more affordable. For $35 I got a wonderful wash, amaaaaaaazing massage, a great cut and blow out! I have super straight asian hair so it's really heavy and it often looks flat but she managed to create layers that took away the weight and added volume without making the back look sparse or thin. I don't like when my ponytail gets too thin but she left just enough. I was also really happy that I got an appointment so quickly. I'm so used to waiting at least 2 weeks before I can get a time that works. Oh and they're also open late so I can come after work. Super affordable and super convenient! They also do manicures/pedicures as well as waxing! read more

Every time I go to get my hair cut, I hear the same things, "Oh my god, you have so much hair!!" and "Your hair is so long!!" Yes, my hair is full, thick, and I go years between cuts, so it gets super long. When I do get it cut, it always feels like a gamble. Even if I dish out $$$ in hopes of a good outcome, I most often leave sad, thinking "I'll just let it grow out again." Then, I came here. It was my first time at Ryan Jacobie (thanks to a Groupon!) and I was scheduled with Allen. He just might be my hair stylist soul mate... He asked me a few questions, I told him generally what I was looking for, and I just felt like HE GOT ME. He knew exactly what I wanted and then made it happen. I left the salon feeling amazing for the first time since I can remember, and I couldn't stop touching my hair. Thank you Allen and Ryan Jacobie! See you again in a year or so ;) read more

I saw they had a special e-mailed and booked an apt right away. I live on the North Shore but because they had such a good deal going on it was worth the drive. When I got there I was pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the shop was. The service was great they offered me a beverage as soon as I got in and made sure I was comfortable. Davey is the guy who helped me and he was FABULOUS!!! When he consulted with me it was if he knew exactly what I wanted and needed. I got highlights, cut and oh the Awapuhi line they used in my hair was heavenly. I very much enjoyed the scalp massage I fell asleep lol I'm totally going back. Davey, I LOVE you!!!!! If I could afford to hire you as my hair stylist I would :) Love this place!!!! read more

I've been going to Ryanjacobie and seeing Allen for all of my sessions, never once did I regret it. He helped me go through the process from my natural black hair to a vibrant healthy blonde. I'd tell him what I want and he works magic to go above and beyond of what I asked for. Never fails to blow me away from my hair transformations after each session. All always makes me feel at home in the salon, all of the staff are friendly and the salon is always clean. read more

Ryan Jacobie is a new and upcoming salon in the Chinatown area. It's a cute little niche filled with vibrant wall colors and large store front windows. The owner, Ryan, and his staff are great and make you feel welcomed right when you walk in the door. The great thing about this salon is that they are a Paul Mitchell focus salon. What does that mean? It means that they use high end Paul Mitchell products and all of the staff are trained under a Paul Mitchell school. It's great to know that each stylist, although different in each his/her own style, all have the same fundamentals of hairstyling. Another great thing is that Ryan Jacobie also offers deals in the middle of the week, which helps those that don't have the cash but still want a fashionable look. read more

Found this place on yelp and found a groupon for a cut and treatment for $53. I was greeted by Amy, who was just as talkative as I am, we had great conversation and she did a good job on my hair. She's young but her skill is very defined and well practiced. I will be coming back to get my hair colored by her. Found my new go-to place. read more

I was really nervous cuz I wanted a pixie cut. I never had my hair this short but Ryan did such an amazing job! He knows what he's doing! A good Pixie cut is just sooo hard to achieve yet he made it look so easy. He took his time and his attention to detail was superb. I got the Groupon and I feel like I got waaay too good of a deal. Even with the $20 tip, it was such a great deal! Thank you Ryan! read more

LOVE THIS SALON. Always recommend Allen I started my hair journey with Allen about 2 years ago and that's when he was currently at another salon *will not be named lol* now he's here slaying hair. After years of box dying my hair I finally got my hair dyed professionally and I'm so glad I went with Allen. Literally ever since I've gotten my hair done I would get none stop compliments, we've done literally almost every color and I trust only him ! He's super friendly and if you have doubts about doing your hair, you can definitely trust Allen read more

Got a haircut with a groupon by Ashley. She was very sweet and she tried to cut my hair how I wanted it to be (I showed her photos) but in the end it didn't come out how I wanted and I didn't realize this until I got home and really looked at my haircut. I mean, what am I supposed to do? Tell her I hate it when it's already cut? Such a bummer... Here is what went wrong: First, she cut my hair shorter than I wanted (I've noticed new stylist tend to do this). She asked me if it was too short but it was too late anyways. Second, when I got home I noticed my hair was uneven at the front. One side was layered in the front and the other side wasn't and one side was longer than the other by a half inch. Third, she cut my hair straight across at the back (stylists should never do this-it makes a persons haircut look blunt and not well blended). When she noticed this, she tried blending it but it just didn't help. My hair is just way too thick at the back. She was sweet, but I definitely will stick with my stylist at Paul brown. Pretty bummed about my haircut! read more

It was a good experience because I liked my haircut. I forgot who i had but, when I first walked in I was a bit skeptical since the little details like seating, cleanliness, and design cohesion were two star but the personality and professionalism of the staff made up for it. They were very friendly and professional in behavior. I showed an example of the haircut I wanted and I received a good consultation. The staff was skilled and the haircut came out great. I got a nice shampoo and was happy when the cut came out to only around $26 when I was expecting it to be $40 since my hair length was at my shoulders. I got told I can come back in two weeks for a complementary touch up that I am looking forward to taking advantage of. I really liked it there, I just would like them to work on some of the details that would add to the customer experience and their rating. I would suggest better seating, less clutter, repaint the walls, and just clean up a bit more. Customers notice. read more

First Impression: Super impressed with this place. Chose it based off of other Yelp reviews and was not disappointed. Called at last minute for an appointment and the person who answered the phone was extremely cordial and pleasant. They were able to schedule me an appointment within 45 minutes from the time I called. When we arrived we were immediately greeted and the staff was extremely professional and courteous. Appointment was right on time. We were offered drinks/refreshments. Very impressed with Ryan Jacobie and will be back. I recommend this salon. read more

What can I say, I have been coming here for a long time and there are no down sides to this salon. The service is amazing, within a couple minutes of walking in they offer me water. It does not take long to be seen and I normally get the regular service which includes a wash and nice head massage. The stylist are all friendly and are masters of their trade. When I go in, I don't have any directions except to make my hair reflect my personality. And all the time, they get it right! I think one of the alluring features of this salon is the size, not so big but not to small, enough space that creates a modern and homey environment. When I want to look my best I always come here. read more

This place is absolutely amazing! Allen is my favorite hairdresser & I've only let him touch my hair since I've got to the island in January! read more

If you have never been to a salon, then Ryanjacobie should be your first. Service was simply amazing from start to finsh. I was offered a drink upon arrival, which consisted of a considerable amount of options. Secondly my stylist CHELSEA sat me down and asked me questions about my hair and what I wanted. She was great, she even asked me if i prefered clipers or just shears, which Ive never been asked before. She then asked me if I wanted to be rinsed out (TOTALLY RECOMEND) The wash and scalp massage I recieved was devine! My scalp felt revitalized and fresh, not to mention the style after was superb. She sent me on my way feeling super confident about my hair. I highly recommend ryanjacobie to everyone! Thank you CHELSEA. read more

Okay, so when I saw that Ryanjacobie had haircuts for $36.99 I was sceptical but I was tired of paying $60+ at other salons for subpar haircuts. I scheduled an appointment with anyone available and that person turned out to be Alyse. When I first arrived at the salon, I was greeted warmly and after checking in, offered coffee or water. I was happily surprised. Previous salons I had been to hadn't offered such a thing and they had been much more expensive. This was a good sign. After being introduced to Alyse, she got right to work putting me in her chair and setting up. When I started to describe to Alyse what I was looking for in a haircut, she seemed to understand immediately what I wanted, even though my description was vague as best. She was friendly, talkative, and completely down to earth. Very much unlike previous stylists who had chastised me in the past for my tendency to bleach my hair on occasion. Alyse was very thorough, however also timely. I admit that I tested Alyse a bit. When she asked me how long she thought I should cut my bangs, I asked her opinion and then have her cut them that way. They turned out perfectly. I walked out with a shampoo, blowout, and haircut in under an hour and a half. I was impressed to say the least. And the haircut I had was definitely not subpar. Honestly, the haircut I walked out of the salon with was even better than what I was expecting. I have to say I got the greatest haircut I've gotten to date and have gotten so many compliments. It was also incredibly affordable, especially with the free bang trims between visits that the salon offers. Alyse also mentioned to me at my appointment that I'd look nice with a pixie cut. Safe to say the next appointment that I had, I got a pixie cut and she was definitely right. Finally, I've found a salon that's not only affordable, but also a stylist I like and can actually trust. If you're looking for a new salon, I'd go to Ryanjacobie. Ask for Alyse. You won't regret it. read more

I decided to give this place a go after hearing good reviews on Yelp. Like others have said this place has really good staff. They're really friendly and accommodating. I called during peak time and they still squeezed me in. As soon as I walked in the guy at the front desk greeted me with a smile and offered me a complimentary drink that came in a pretty neat looking plastic cup. I was squeezed in with Ashley in which she did a very good job and was just as friendly as the guy in the front. Unlike most places where the stylist/barber sits you in the chair and speaks very scarcely; Ashley was really friendly and I enjoyed holding conversations with her. It's true that this place may be a bit more than other places, but even as a broke college student, I would gladly pay the extra $5-6 for superb service and drink. This is now the place I'm going to get my hair done! --The only minor thing I have to say is that they really take their time with you and are pretty slower than what I'm used to. I had to almost haul ass straight to work not anticipating how long it would take. So if wanting to get something done here make sure you have nothing to do immediately after! read more

I had purchased a Groupon for a color and Keratin conditioning treatment. The salon was cute, the stylus were really friendly and I enjoyed my service to great deal. I would highly recommend the salon and I will go back definitely. read more

It was my first time at Ryanjacobie today. I got a wash, cut and style. I had Stasee who was friendly, accommodating, and very quick! It took her well under an hour to create nice, even layers. Unlike some stylists I've had in the past, she was really attentive to my requests, and did not chop off too much of my hair. I really loved how she styled it as well and would consider coming to her for styling before a special event. I will definitely be back. Thanks Stasee! :) read more

Came here because it was close to my work place & I wanted to go on my lunch break. I have to say at of all the haircuts I've gotten in my 5 years on island I've never been more satisfied with my haircut. I'm new to the area and needed to find a new hair salon so I turned to Yelp. I trusted the high reviews for this salon, and I went in excited and with a VERY clear vision and description of what I wanted- complete with pictures. I made an appointment with Davy because he was high ranking (educator) which meant he was more expensive but I was fine with that because it gave me more comfort knowing he was more experienced. (I ended up paying $140 for cut and color) I am a very low-maintenance girl when it comes to my hair. I'm naturally a dirty blonde and wanted to get my hair a little closer to that natural tone but also have some warmth. What I got was orange. Nowhere in my pictures, or description, did I ask for a reddish warm hue but that's what I got. The kicker: I had NO IDEA the color was off until I got home because the salon doesn't have lighting at their chairs. I'll repeat that- THE SALON DOESN'T HAVE LIGHTING AT THEIR STYLING CHAIRS. There's only overhead lighting in the middle of the room and filtered natural light from the window. As I prepared to leave Davy told me if I need to come back in the next few days to adjust any of the color to call him soon. That was a really nice gesture that I didn't realize I'd be taking advantage of almost immediately. The cut I got from Davy was beautiful- exceeded my expectations (which is why this review is not a 1 star review). I called to explain my dissatisfaction and ask for another appointment to fix it. Joy was very sweet and relayed the info to Davy; he immediately suggested that I see it natural light instead of just florescent light because it makes color look different. Yep- did that. Still orange. Fast forward to me getting my hair fixed two days later. When I came in, Davy brought me to a chair off the main floor- without a mirror in front of it. I explained that I felt the color was too orange on top and he understood. I also asked if he was going to bring any more blonde into my hair (like all of the pictures I'd brought in had in them) and he snickered and said "Um no, that'd mean doing a lightening bleaching treatment..." He began mixing color and getting to work but it took me asking him to know what he was doing. I found this frustrating- if I'm coming back for a second time I think it's pretty natural to want to know what he was doing to fix the problem and be a part of the process a little bit. Towards the end of the foils he had an assistant mix some lightener and he applied it (somewhere) on the top panel of the hair. After the color he began styling my hair. While my hair was wet, I was facing a mirror, but while he was drying it, I was spun sideways. Again, very frustrating not being able to see the color come through. After it was dry, he walked me outside with a small mirror to see the color in light. Looked good as far as I could tell- much less orange. Got home, took a picture of it and realized although it was LESS orange, the color didn't change all that much and now there were streaks of ashy gray in my hair. My boyfriend, who doesn't have an eye for this, actually commented on the gray color because it's that noticeable. The lightener he applied to the hair mixed terribly with the already existing color and now I literally have gray streaks that start half-way down my hair and an orange-ish tint on top still. The people are nice there and my hair cut was amazing but I will NEVER go back. I tried to like this place and I gave it a second chance but if the top ranking stylist can't fix the color to meet my expectations, this place just isn't for me. Also, customers have a right to see their color in a well-lit environment; having lighting around the mirrors is just not too much ask. Best of luck. read more

This review is long over due! First of all I purchased a groupon for a haircut, wash and blow. My stylist I believe was named Stacie. She started off with taking me into the back to the wash room. My head of hair has never ever been washed like this before. The shampoo and conditioner had ingredients of some tea tree oil and the massage on my scalp almost put me to sleep lol. When the wash was down she brought me back to the chair where I was greeted by a fresh cup of coffee. This is Wonderful I thought! I told her I would like layers and to chop off about 4 inches. I was nervous going in and it's always a gamble when anyone cuts my hair. I could smile on the outside and be crying in the inside with my hair looking like it was chopped by a lawn mower. That was not the case with my experience. I decided to not look in the mirror until my haircut was complete. She even curled it at the end and sprayed it a bit. She turned me around so I would face the mirror and I was very happy and pleased! Great customer service and a great job!!! read more

I love this salon! The atmosphere is great, you never feel intimidated by the employees because they're always friendly and professional. I usually go to see Alyse. The first time I went there, I told her to give me a cut that "makes my face look skinny" (eh, it's cheaper and safer than plastic surgery right?!) and she totally came through. Like everyone else, I liked the beverage offer when first entering the salon. What a nice greeting. I was scheduled with Davey for a haircut. I've been cutting my own hair for over a year and felt it was time for a professional touch. He understood perfectly what I wanted in a cut. Long layers, cut off the dead ends, face framing, but keep the length. The end result was healthy looking and feeling hair that didn't look like it lost any length at all. Davey made me feel comfortable and entertained, which is important since you're stuck with your stylist for an hour or so. My last stylist made a few hours feel like a week. I obviously never went back to her. It was also Chinese New Year and the salon had a few groups of lions come in so that was fun. Before my cut was done, I had scheduled another appointment with him for a color. Again, Davey understood exactly what I wanted and didn't want. He took much care in my hair with a few condition treatments. He stayed over 2 hours after closing to finish and all the while assured me that this was ok. It's been over a month since my cut and color and I'm still very happy with both. Amazingly, my hair feels healthy and not dry and damaged like it felt after my last ombre. Lucky for me, I work nearby and it's very convenient for me to go back. And I definitely will. read more

Ryan gives the cut that keeps on giving! He has been helping me grow my hair out, and gave me this FAB rock and roll, hip, better than Sally Hershberger, shaggy cut. This was months ago and it still looks FAB! He helps me maintain the shape and style as we grow and keeps me looking stylin! Plus, we've realized that I shouldn't fight the natural texture of my hair (I would iron it in the morning) and he gave me some great PM product that makes my wavy hair, wavy, not course and frizzy and bushy. My first time there and I loved it! Ashley did a great job coloring my dry, damaged and brassy colored hair. She helped me pick the right color shade, did a deep conditioning keratin treatment, and gives great scalp massages. She took her time with the blow dry and flat iron styling to give me the perfect look. The owner Ryan was also there and very nice and helpful too. Giving his reccomondation with the color choice and then gave tips with the after care of my colored hair. Bottom line... I walked out of there a very happy customer, and will keep on going back! :) read more

I bought a groupon for them and made an appointment. The girl must have been new because she took a while. After my hair cut she didn't even show me the back of my hair so I had to grab the mirror myself and good thing I did because the back wasn't cut straight across. And she asked "Oh, is that how you wanted it?" Um isn't that how people usually get hair cuts. So after I paid I had to ask to make the bottom straight so that made me kind of mad.
