    Sushi menu.

This review is for the Ryu location near gate 79 inside Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport. This airport Japanese restaurant straddles the three-to-four star line for me. I'll bump them up to four because I like their menu offerings which include sushi, poke, and smoothies plus other healthy options like toasts (e.g. avocado toast, almond butter and banana toast) and acai smoothie bowls. Ryu is a local chain of sustainable sushi restaurants with currently five locations throughout Montreal. The airport location actually consists of two locations: (1) near gate 50 in the Canadian departures terminal and (2) this one near gate 79 in the US departures terminal. This location is counter-service-only with no dedicated seating, though there are small, common area dining tables nearby. This location has a simple yet nice build-out with a sushi bar, smoothie bar, and appropriately-themed Japanese decor. In addition to the made-to-order sushi, poke, and smoothies, there are shelves filled with grab-and-go snacks and other food products. We visited on a Sunday around 11am and were told the toasts ($9.25-13.00 each) and acai smoothie bowls ($13.50 each) weren't available. Sushi was available in rolls ($6.75-15.50 each), nigiri and sashimi ($5.00-6.75 for two pieces). Unsurprisingly, given the size of the shop, the sushi selection was limited to imitation crab, shrimp, salmon, tuna, and variants like smoked salmon and tuna tataki. There were four different kinds of poke bowls starting at $14.50-18.00 each and you could choose the base. No completely customizable poke is offered here. Smoothies started at $9.75 each and there were four varieties. I had a Hawaiian Classic poke bowl ($18) and an "#Acai" smoothie ($9.75). After a long weekend and before boarding an early afternoon flight, these both hit the spot. The Hawaiian Classic bowl came with tuna, cucumber, avocado, green onion, shallots, tempura, soy sauce, sesame oil, sesame seeds, and nori (dried seaweed). The bowl was made-to-order and neatly prepared. It was compact and the portion size was small (at least, for me it was). They offer only one size of bowl. I'm used to larger and tastier poke bowls back home (Atlanta) that include more types of protein and food for about the same price. However, I realize airport restaurants can charge a premium so I think that may be what's happening here. The quality of the ingredients was fresh/A-OK. My only real gripe with the bowl is how hungry I still was after eating it. The #Acai smoothie was delicious, satisfying, and helped to fill me up. It was ice cold, sweet, and refreshing. I felt good drinking it. The smoothie was made with acai berries, blueberries, strawberries, banana, almond butter, and coconut milk. Like the sushi and poke bowls, Ryu makes their smoothies fresh to order at the counter. The #Acai smoothie had great flavor and consistency. It was a little bit on the icy side, but that's what I was craving at the time. I think some people may find it too sweet, but the sweetness level was just right for me. My buddy got a Balance smoothie ($9.75) made with mango, pineapple, banana, and coconut milk. He sucked it down pretty fast so that should tell you how good he thought it was. Service was good. It looked like a mother-daughter combo working together. The mother was taking care of the sushi and poke and prepping/cutting ingredients while the daughter handled the register and smoothies. The counter wasn't very busy, but neither was the airport terminal.

I'm so happy that in the airport has sushi bar and I can eat my favorite kind of food before flying. Set of sushi and rolls is the right potion, I also have poke with salmon and add more of seaweed. Freshii is refreshing drink make me awake. One more thing they have vegetarian option too. One of my friends was so glad she can have the same type of food with us.

a container of sushi and a carton of juice

Chinese Guy pretending to be chef, refused to answer in English, can not get any answers from anyone, the sushi small mixed pieces and 1 box of juice was $40 Cad!!! What is going on in this Country? Are they taking us for fools? I asked for a refund and they ignored me! The worst quality sushi, worst service, I hope a health food agent reads this and shuts that place down. My review for this place is sub zero! Stay away!

I love eating at Japanese restaurants because of the atmosphere-a very clear, crisp look. This is the second location of Ryú in the Pierre Elliot Trudeau airport. They had a sushi and Poké bar. Pricea are on the high side ranging from 15$ and up. I ordered the spicy tuna Poké with avocado, cucumber, edamame, carrots, seaweed salad and caviar. Surprisingly there was no Quinoa available so I opted for the green salad as my base. I would've like spicy mayo because even the sauce wasn't enough. It was a bit spicy so I asked for less sauce. I support green restaurants. The highlight was the paper bowl that the Poké was served in. biodegradable is the way to go! Nothing beats good food and a view for takeoff!

YUL has a Montreal Canadiens restaurant. Did this used to be Moes because the foot print looked familiar. While YUL in the domestic area has a decent amount of places to eat the variety only stretches so far. I mean sandwiches, burgers, coffee, bagels etc and while you get a lot of the same just about everywhere it's nice to see a place like Ryu to change things up a bit. Ryu has a variety of ready made maki and nigiri combos like you may see at grocery stores packed up and ready to go. This would be helpful if you didn't want to eat on the plane or if you wanted to take it to go. They do have a decent sized dine in area as well if you felt you wanted to eat in. I ended up getting one of the maki and nigiri sushi combos and my wife ended up getting some sort of poke bowl but instead of rice she went with quinoa as the base filler. I have to say after a week of eating out in the US almost every meal this was a nice treat. We only had Asian cuisine once down there and I was sort of craving something with rice. The combo was a mix of salmon and tuna (total 13 pieces) and it was almost 18 bucks. While that seemed rather high I have to remember that we're at the airport and this food isn't fast food. My wife's poke bowl was a mix of carrots, cucumbers, edamame, wakame and tuna. The fish didn't looked marinated like Hawaiian poke or at least what we're used to at our regular poke place in Toronto but rather cut up tuna instead. Still, it was good as I ended up finishing it because my wife couldn't. I'm not normally big on quinoa but it went will with this bowl and it seemed to be actually filling. The food was good but seemed rather pricey. We've had better poke than this. IMO you can't really call it poke unless the fish is marinated. This place didn't even drizzle anything on it...? Still it's decent and a switch from what every other place serves in the terminal.

Good, quick sushi. There's to-go meals as well as made-to-order poke and green juice options. Snacks include cold tea, edamame chips, pocky, and more snacks. I don't think there's regular hours? The cashier had closed the register when I wanted to buy grab-and-go sushi, but she reopened the register for my credit card. She was very friendly and when I asked if they closed at 7 (it was 6:50 pm) said that the restaurant wouldn't want to pay her if she was doing nothing and it was getting slow so she was closing down.

Decent avocado toast made fresh to order - US terminal near Gate 79. Lots of avocado, two slices of fresh bread and seasoning.

I didn't stay long as I was just in the mood to take out. I looked at the menu online and to my luck they had a Combo "N" already in the fridge ready to go that was just made. I also had to wait a short while because I ordered a karaage appetizer as well. I love fried chicken. If I have an opportunity to get fried chicken at a place that's serving sushi whether it's in the form or karaage or katsu I'm taking it every time. Luckily they have an option to just get the appetizer which is just the chicken itself, not an entire combo meal so I went with it. I have to say it was so cute! It was in what looked like a Haagen Dazs half liter but when you take the lid off it looks like a mini bucket of fried chicken! The menu has a lot of choices and some while they may seem trendy some also seem kind of cool and different. They had sushi tacos in that the shells are wonton type and they serve them with salmon, tuna or lobster. While sushi burritos are not exactly new, they have that as well and if you so wanted, you could get ones made with karaage. Between other items I haven't even really seen before they have a lot of stylish and colorful selections to choose from. What I ordered was exactly what I had wanted which was a mix of maki a couple pieces of nigiri and that nicely fried and tasty karaage. The pieces seemed larger than other places that I've seen serve karaage which were more bite sized pieces. The karaage came with a nice spicy mayo which was perfect. These deep fried delicious pieces of chicken are not dry but just right. The Sushi shop for me was a nice quick take out order but it could also be a nice relaxing place to sit down and have made to order as well.
