Rude staff I was there on 3/10/26 got treated poorly except by totten staff doing glasses where rude because I didn't like any of the glasses I asked for my measurements the didn't do them just wrote numbers on a paper so I asked a valid question of how do you know they are my measurements? First off, all of the staff was fantastic! Cheryl welcomed me and was very friendly and helpful. The I saw Dr. Totten, and she was amazing. I've never had an optician spend as much time with me explaining what was happening to my aging eyes. She explained the options available to me and we agreed on a plan. I did buy one pair of glasses, and Lisa helped immensely with that process. I can't wait to get my new glasses! read more

I take my three children to get their eye exams every year with Dr. Totten, and i myself see Dr. Cotter. The staff here is always very kind and considerate. The folks that help you find your glasses are very knowledgeable and always work with me to stay within my budget - we worked with Anna this year but Dave and Amanda were both very helpful and encouraging while my kids looked at different styles of frames. The front desk girl Cheryl is attentive and kind, and even the young lady who did the testing before we got to the doctor, Jessica - was great, she made my children a little less nervous then they tend to be at most doctors appointments. I continue coming back to this location every year because of how well we are treated. Even when there is an occasional issue with an order - management is great at helping resolve it. I have been helped by both of the Lisa's in management and always felt like i was in very capable and considerate hands. It is also very important and helpful that they accept all state insurances because i have had a very difficult time in the past getting my kids into places because of insurance incompibilities. read more

Just when I think the customer service can't get any worse, they prove me wrong. My daughter and I went in this morning for scheduled back-to-back appointments. She has been under the care of a pediatric ophthalmologist since she was 4. She's 19 now and I've always had her glasses prescription filled here. When she became old enough to wear contacts, her doctor stated that he doesn't write prescriptions for contacts and that we could take her eyeglass script anywhere. For several years, Rx Optical charged us a $30 contact lense exam fee with her prescription. When we arrived today, I was told the contact lense exam would be anywhere between $89 and $189. When I explained that she just had an exam on Monday and presented the new paper script the person at the desk hemmed-and-hawed and said, "Let me check." She came back and said, "Unfortunately, my manager said that a full exam is required." "How much is that?" "$200." That's just unacceptable. To compound the problem, when she told me what my exam would cost, I learned that they're still automatically charging for unnecessary retina photographs. When I told her I didn't want that, the exam price dropped to $99. So basically, they're padding their fees with a laundry list of things you don't need. That's a win for them if patients have insurance. It's price gouging for those who do not. .We walked out and will never go back. The sad thing about it - they didn't care. read more

I have been going to another local eye doctor for years but had been treated horribly by the staff so I decided to try something new. From the moment we (my daughter had an appt as well) walked in it was nothing but kindness and honesty. Up front on possible charges, explaining different exams and then we met the doctor. I cannot say enough good things about Dr Totten- if you appreciate complete honesty and thorough explanations then look no further. Not only did she explain things so we could understand and relate she fixed my prescription that had been messed up for over a year. I ended up spending less than I did at another eye doctor and actually got a full years worth of contacts rather than only 6 months... oh and did I mention I could SEE again?? read more

So frustrating. Customer service is severely lacking. I stood in line waiting to be helped only to be told I missed the 7-minute window of allowed lateness. They went to check to see if the Dr would still see me but the Dr was not even done with the previous patient. I was then escorted into a room to have pics of eyes taken. I could see the alcohol swabs to clean the machine. Since the desk worker was not going to clean it before my exam, I assumed that the person previous to me had cleaned it so I waited to see if she would clean it after my pictures were taken, but she only escorted me back to the waiting room. So despite being chastised for being late, 30 minutes later I have still yet to go into see the doctor. read more

Herself and the rest of the staff at the Saint Joseph Rx Optical location make going to the eye doctor easy and enjoyable. Worst experience picking up my glasses ever. I'll start with saying the doctor I had the day of my exam was extremely nice. However, the staff at the office the day I went to pick up were extremely rude and made me feel very uncomfortable. I live out of town and the day they were available for pickup I couldn't make it to st joe during the day. When I was driving and getting closer to st joe I knew I would be getting there pretty close to their closing time so I called to give them a heads up incase they needed to do anything beforehand to help speed up the process since it was the end of their day. (I still wouldn't be making them stay after closing time or anything like that.) the lady on the phone says "uhhh.... Oh.. Um... okay?" When I got there it was clear she did not tell anyone else in the office or get anything out. The lady who answered the phone would not even look up at me. When the lady helping me went to the back to get my glasses I hear a woman say "What? She JUST got here??? I would never do that to someone" she fully knew I was in ear shot and made this comment. I could hear the other ladies in the back making comments about me. The lady who actually got my glasses and fit them for me was very nice but every single other person in the office that day was HORRIBLE. I don't understand how they felt it was right to complain and make me feel bad when I was there during hours of operation. Won't be getting my glasses here again. read more

Terrible! They were so unfriendly and rude and have just lost a new patient. When I walked in there was no one at the desk and no one even acknowledged that I was there. There were a few others waiting also and one lady said she had been waiting for over 20 minutes and no one had helped her! I finally asked one of the workers if someone would be checking me in soon. She asked my name and looked in the computer and said "we'll have to reschedule your appointment, the doctor is already with the next patient." Say What!? I'd been standing there for about 10-15 minutes by then. She said I was 12 min. Late. Not true! I used my GPS to get there as it was my first time driving there, so I knew exactly what time I got there. I have to admit I was 4 minutes late, but I also tried to call to let them know, and no one answered. I will be going somewhere else for sure!! read more

I live in California and was vacationing nearby when I stepped on my glasses and cracked the plastic frames at the temple breaking off one arm. I drove to one optical shop in SJ and was told they couldn't fix them. They were very nice but repairing frames just isn't their thing. I love my frames and they were expensive, so rather than give up and buy new ones I tried one more stop, RX Optical. The guys looked over my frames and said they would try as long as I was okay with some imperfection. I left my frames, name and number. In an hour or so I got the call that my frames were fixed. I returned to RX Optical, tried on my frames and they were great. My vacation was saved! Only I can tell they aren't absolutely perfect and I still get compliments on them. The guys refused to take any money for their time and skill, insisting that just a handshake was enough. It's been a month, my frames are still great, and I couldn't in good conscience not share my very good experience with RX Optical on Washington. It's the least I could do. Thanks guys! read more

I have gone here for years. I haven't always been impressed, but I have NEVER been disappointed. My latest appointment was yesterday. Since I am "aging" I having more problems with my eyes and I almost decided to go to someplace that others say is "better". Well, I beg to differ with their opinion. My exam was very thorough and I was not at all rushed. She took a lot of time with me not just examining but explaining why my eyes bothered me. She gave suggestion of things I can do and what she felt they could do with new lens. I was not rushed. I was not pushed into anything. The girl that helped me with ordering my new lenses checked and double checked my readings and assured me if I have ANY problem with the new lenses or if I am still having any issues after I get them I need to contact them and they will continue to work with me at no charge. I don't feel I can ask more than that. I highly recommend this RX Optical. They are very professional. read more

My glasses came up MIA , called RX optical because I paid the extra cost for the insurance wanting (needing) a new pair and was told no ... So needless to say myself and my husband will be new customers of Great Lakes eye care. Very disappointed. The one's who fit glasses don't really know what they're doing, had to go in several times to get my glasses fit with the correct lenses. They steered me towards the most expensive frames that didn't really work with my prescription and then they ended up falling apart after two months. Had to go to somewhere else to get good service and frames/lenses that work for me. read more
