I ordered it and it was en route. In the meantime, a local plumber made me aware of the Deepwave whole house water filter produced by KIS Water Inc., a company here in Carlsbad. I drove over and met the owner, Kyle Kuypers. Kyle designed the system. He impressed me as a knowledgeable, articulate, and a man of integrity. I was so impressed by what Kyle showed me that I cancelled the order from the East coast. It had already been shipped, but I thought the Deepwave system was so superior in design to other filters I had researched that I bore the cost ($500.00) of shipping the other unit back. The unit I had returned required flushing, which completely drains and refills the filter cylinder, every three days. Failure to do so would render void the warranty. Every other unit I looked at required flushing, or "backwashing" at least once a week. That's a lot of wasted water. The Deepwave system is, in my opinion, superior to the other systems I looked at because it does not require periodic backwashing. The purpose of the backwashing in whole house water filters is to keep the filter media in suspension. The water enters the filter, flows down through the media, then up through a tube in the center and into your home. So over time, gravity and the downward flow of the water compacts the media and creates channels through it. Backwashing is designed to keep the media in suspension or as one vendor put it, to "fluff" the media. The Deepwave is designed such that the water entering the filter flows down via a tube in the center, then up through the filter media and into the home. This means that the media is constantly kept in suspension because it's not working against gravity. Any whole house filter that requires backwashing also requires electricity to run a timer. Every filter I looked at required this. The Deepwave, because it does not require periodic flushing, does not need a timer and therefore does not need to be plugged into an outlet. Also, through use of magnetic straps on the inlet and outlet pipes, calcium hardness crystals are kept in a suspended solid form. This softens and reduces the usual scale mineral deposits you typically see on your plumbing fixtures. Kyle put me in touch with Art Carlin, a contractor who is the owner of Absolute Water in Escondido, for the installation. Art was able to come up with an elegant and creative installation in a very tight space (see photo). The whole house filter is the silver cylinder on the left. If you're in the market for a whole house water filter, you've no doubt come across all sorts of companies, all claiming to be the best, and "top ten" type rankings that are often more confusing and contradictory than helpful. Often there is a list of what the filter purportedly does, but the backup testing protocols and data are not supplied. Kyle documented all the Deepwave performance claims. I have complete confidence in the company and in the system they sell. I highly recommend it.

I called the number on the system, and they are hard to contact and even harder to get an appointment with. So when we got an error code I called Rayne, gave them the model number and asked if they could service it. We installed a water filtration system in 2020 when we bought our home that required salt and allowing a tech regularly into our garage. As this turned out to not be our best option, we switched to the Spartan system- a seemingly low maintenance system shortly after. We were quoted $900, but paid $1900 due to a typo Rusty, the owner, placed in the e-mail quote. He put a symbol instead of a 1 in front of the other numbers in the email. So 100% more than what we were quoted, but we still ate the cost. We had a service call to check filters about a year later and Rusty actually took a filter out, rinsed it, tested water and all was well. He put on a jazzy demonstration for my husband and I and we felt we were in good hands. No filter needed changing, nothing. We were told our system should run well up to 10 years. Great. I learned later that we could have done a better job with regular follow ups for the filters and changes, but looking at reviews from the business manager under this site states they will call to remind customers of changes needed. This never happened and life got busy. In 2022 we put in a new dishwasher. Exactly 3 years later (last month), it needed to be replaced completely due to corrosion in the hoses and suspicion of "possible" hard water. I called RWI to have them come out and check the system. My home is tenant occupied, so it was explained to me by my tenants that the tech didn't know what the issue was, and was looking around for valves and basically said he would get back to us once he has some clarity. Next thing I know I'm getting a quote which I attached in a picture here. Calling for a review of this quote and an explanation as to the breakdown was pointless. The woman answering the phone reiterated that $700 in taxes was indeed not a typo. And the overall cost of this maintenance was almost as much as the entire system itself with no clear explanation as to what was found. She explained to me that she doesn't know that the tech did check the filters. I told her that this exorbitant cost is not something that we anticipated signing up for the system to which she replied. "well, then don't pay" after some back-and-forth. I specifically asked her "what am I paying for?" And she didn't understand my question. Why does media need repIacing, was hard water indeed found? No clue. I also informed her that when the tech was out, he stated that our system isn't a water conditioner, but rather a descaler. Seeing differently on the website, I asked her what exactly the system is supposed to do to then, she responded " I'm sure that was explained to you when the system was put in". Sensing a tone in her voice, poor customer service attitude, and incompetence, I asked to speak to someone else. Rusty, the owner got on and told me that I had an attitude as well, and he heard the whole conversation. No attempt to defuse anything, no attempt to start fresh, just jumped in with the same poor attitude I was getting from the woman who answered the phone. If a representative of your company is starting off a conversation in a manner that is rude, snarky, not helpful and condescending, you can expect customers to give the same back unless you are willing to rectify the situation as an owner. Rusty was not. I also have a reverse osmosis water system, and have been changing the filters annually myself, so we are not completely negligent. I will pay what I need to to keep my house running well and my tenants happy but if someone is not able to explain to me why something is being done, and what was found on a visit, It comes across as just giving me a quote and doing a job without really, knowing if it needs to be done. Change filters, sure, how is that $1900? And where is $700 in taxes ever appropriate? We accomplished nothing. I'm happy to take my business elsewhere and Rusty was happy to lose me as a customer. If you were looking for a company that becomes defensive when you ask questions, does a poor job of explaining and is willing to fleece you, this is the one to go to

You change the filter once a year and my husband did it and it wasn't bad. When we got it the guy who installed it was good. He gave all the info to my husband and did it pretty quick. We were initially going to get like a reverse osmosis water filter and alkaline from puragain water but it was 3x the price. This is basic but it does the job and our water tastes great.
