(I used to take medication for my pain most days, but I noticed quickly that I don't need to take it for a while after I get a massage from her. Now I don't need the medication at all! Over time, my total amount of pain has lessened.) Her spa is located on the main drive in Graton, close to Sebastopol- though I come from near Tomales so I take back roads and Hwy 12 and make a left before I hit Sebastopol's traffic! It's a beautiful and relaxing drive for me. If you live in Sebastopol, it's still quick to get there via the northern end of town (by CVS and Andy's). The spa has a cozy waiting room, a separate comfortable room for massage, a restroom customers can use down the hall, and a beautiful garden out front. The place is always very hygienic and clean, as well as comfortable and welcoming. Soft relaxing music usually plays via a CD player in the massage room, which I like, but she can turn it down or off if you prefer. I make appointments by phone- Cairyl's schedule is usually flexible with appointments available various times and days with the proper notice. She's accommodating when things come up and I need to move my massage. Regular time slots are available (that's what I usually do) at whatever frequency works for you. Cairyl is caring and compassionate; she has just the right combination of professionalism and friendliness for a massage therapist. I always enjoy seeing her and chatting. She's excellent at helping with both my typical recurring pain and anything new or different for me. When I tell her where it hurts or which joints are 'stuck', stiff, or generally don't want to move, she knows exactly where to focus the massage and which muscles to target. Sometimes she's given me gentle stretches I can do on my own to help keep pain from recurring or to stretch the muscles that are the cause of my usual problems. She's great about incorporating feedback into your next massage, so don't be afraid to let her know what works and what doesn't. Everyone's different, and she knows this well and is wonderful about working with my particular physical limits and needs (like I always seem to need deep pressure on my muscles to get them to relax, more so than most people I think). Also, if you have sensitive skin, painful or sore areas, allergies, any other special needs, let her know- she's generally able to make accommodations. The night before her appointment my daughter told me her nose was starting to run and she thought she had allergies. The day of her appointment, it progressed very quickly to a full blown cold and her nose was really runny. She was concerned about being in a headrest and also about getting the massage therapist sick. I called to see if we could reschedule and was told it was not possible but my daughter could still come in and wear a mask on the table! I explained how terribly uncomfortable that would be and was told there are no ability to reschedule. My daughter was very much looking forward to the massage and since I live out of the area it was an important gift to help her release some of her tension. I asked to speak to the owner and gave my details and was told the owner would call me back. I never heard back and called again on May 13th, 7 days later, and asked again to speak to the owner to try to find a fair resolution for the situation. I was told the owner would call me back but have not heard back from her today. The impression that I get is that they do not care about my business. And if they don't care about my business, they don't care about your business. You may want to rethink using their services if you think you may ever be sick or have an emergency and have to miss your appointment. I am extremely disappointed with the lack of care of the owner of Jaiyen Spa. If I could give no stars, I would.
