I've been here several times, and while they get the job done, the level of professionalism is lacking. I came in for a massage, and when it was time to pay, my masseuse hovered over me while I was Venmoing her tip. To my surprise, she then asked how much I tipped, which felt completely inappropriate and unprofessional. On top of that, she commented that the tip should have been a certain amount, despite there being no posted policy or expectation regarding gratuity. I just used Yelp request a quote to find an open massage spot this memorial Monday and Essential Massage answered within 10 minutes. They let me know that they had an opening so I booked on the website. Very easy to select what you like and book a time. It's located in a little business park of other wellness businesses and is very serene with birds all around and lots of lovely greenery. They have a bright LED sign to help you know which building it is. Inside it's immediately very relaxing with a lovely diffuser going. The lady who helped me was truly wonderful. You fill out a little clipboard to indicate focus areas and any specific issues you might have to avoid or focus on. I had selected a 90 min massage and chose aromatherapy, hot stone, and exfoliating add ons ($10 each) plus I selected to have cupping ($30). I chose medium-firm pressure. It's a cliche, but it really was the best massage I've ever had. The pressure was perfect for me. The atmosphere was so relaxing and the masseuse was really attentive. Her shoulder technique was so great to get into the tense bits. She began with a warmup on top of the blanket then oils on the skin. She gave amazing focus to my lower back (which is very hard from a fall that gave me some sciatica) and made sure to check everything was ok. The cupping was great. If you've never experienced it may feel a bit stinging and pressure but it slowly goes away after a few minutes. She let me know her family are acupuncturists so she knows all the pressure points to hit on and cupped where the sciatica hits. It feels great. Then she exfoliated and continued with head, face, and feet. She also used some Chinese herbal medicine on my feet that felt lovely. I can't tell you how relaxing it was. Truly the best. And she was kind enough to spend an extra 15 mins as it was my first visit. Please go and try for yourself! So so good. Very appreciated. read more

I came here for my birthday with my hubs for a couples massage. Usually I wait a few tries before reviewing a place, but this is a new location for this small business, and so wanted to give them a shout out to hopefully help them out. I've had a lot of massages and been to a variety of massage places, so I feel like I know what I'm doing, in giving them 5 stars. I know it's a good massage when I'm laying there thinking about the big tip I want to give the massage therapist. When they lull you into such relaxation that you think. "Please, take all my money. I don't care if you rob me in this vulnerable state." I loved that they made sure the pressure was good and reassured us that if at any point we were uncomfortable, to tell them and they would adjust. I love it when the massage therapist tackles a knot like it's something they want to conquer. She commented that my shoulders were really tight and she was really going after it with vigor. But not too much vigor, as I requested medium pressure, and it was perfect. This is a no frills place, and they don't charge you an arm and a leg, which is good, because my arms and legs are super tight and they're not worth much. But luckily my therapist, Lucy massaged the hell out of them, without losing them for this massage. It's nice to go to a fancy place (If you have the money to burn), but if you don't, this place is solid. It's clean, they're nice, they're anti-knots, they're committed to getting knots out, they make sure you're doing okay, and I also loved the use of hot stone in the middle off the massage to really get those muscles softened into a puddle. I scheduled appointment at the incorrect location over the phone as I was staying for a few days in Santa Rosa for a personal retreat. They were kind enough to fit me in as I requested my massage on a specific day. She was thoughtful and went above and beyond with making sure I felt comfortable with pressure, etc and the overall experience left me with more of a calm presence than when I arrived. We spoke a little about why I needed the massage to be that specific day and her kind thoughtful words were much appreciated. If I'm ever in SR again I'd definitely return! read more

I've had neck and low back pain for about 4 days. I didn't know which massage spa is good until my neighbor introduced EMT to me. I made an appointment for a 90-minute massage with the intention of giving it a try... The reception lady received me nicely and asked me about my pain points. She suggested to add the hot stone treatment to promote blood circulation during my massage. My massage therapist is Jenny, I'm really happy that she resolved my problem. This place is definitely worth to try. The whole massage process was very relaxing. I just love their room environment! The music melody, the quiet room, and the aroma in the room. I just can't say enough about how good essential massage therapy is. The receptionist is really kind. The rooms are super clean and smell good. My mom is 70 years old and has been getting massages at their Petaluma shop for about a year now. She tries to treat herself at least once a month because of lower left back pain. However she lives in Santa Rosa which is a bit far from their previous shop, but now I am so happy that their Santa Rosa location is opened. It is gonna be much convenient for her. I booked a massage here based on all the good reviews but was extremely disappointed. When I showed up and filled in the questionnaire, I noted that I had lower back issues. I then reiterated this to the woman at the front desk. I went into the room and got prepared. The room was fine but had very scratchy pilled up flannel sheets that were uncomfortable. When my masseuse came in, she takes out her phone and has me speak into it for it to translate to her. Basically did not speak any english which I was unprepared for, and I am guessing is likely not certified to do massage here. I almost left but the lady at the front desk convinced me to stay, and I had her reiterate I had lower back issues. As she went through the massage, she leaned her full weight into my lower back, pushing it down causing discomfort. This is not something you do to someone with back issues. Rest of massage was ok, but felt uncomfortable the whole time knowing that I could not communicate with her. The next day my back hurt way worse than before the massage. If you have no issues and just want to rub down would be fine, but definitely would not recommend if you want an actual therapeutic massage. read more

I worked in my backyard last week and sprained my lower back. It didn't get better after almost 3 days. I felt worthless but I was lucky to meet my neighbor who told me about Essential Massage Therapy. She told me that they are good and even booked an appointment for me. At the Spa, the Massage Therapist made an assessment and proposed a few changes to my session. She recommended me a 60 minutes focus massage, with Chinese herbal medicine and cupping therapy. After the session, my lower back was much better. In the following days, I saw a marked improvement and the pain is now almost entirely gone.
