For the past two years I have been recovering from massive back injury. I have 14 pieces of hardware infused in my body and broken ankles. Over the past two years I had over 100 physical therapy sessions, multiple back steroid injections, burning of the nerve endings etc. All of that medical shit aside nothing is as a relief like getting a massage from Erika. Over the same time period I have tried 20 plus massage therapist. None of them compared. Erika knows her stuff. She finds every bolt and every scar tissue in my body and her soothing touch relived the stress better than any pain medication or doctor could. I had a torn hamstring, and after months of physical therapy, rest, and all the other jazz, I finally tried getting a massage. I was desperate - I was in constant pain and couldn't run or exercise without my entire leg aching for the rest of the day (and the next). Erika fixed me in one session. Seriously - after a single massage, my pain started to dissipate and I was able to work out again. Now I'm back to my old routine, and able to work out even more aggressively. Erika is amazing!!! I was referred to her by another friend with on going pain issues. And they were right- Erika digs and gets in there like no other massage I've ever had. She can release tension that has been building for months. And she often teaches me stretches to do at home. It is difficult to find someone like her who enjoys and takes pride in their work (and it shows), uses the right amount of pressure for each person's individual needs and preferences, is detailed and thorough, has an excellent understanding of the human musculoskeletal system, and is extremely intuitive. I have had massages at resorts in Columbia, Buenos Aires, Thailand, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Calistoga, Burke Williams, in San Francisco and Joseph Smith (now Simply Inspired) in Marin County just to name some. I have also been to other private practitioners and some of the cheap-but-good places in the Richmond and Sunset for foot, chair, and full body massage. Many of these were enjoyable and worthwhile experiences, with a few standouts. Wat Pho in Bangkok comes to mind, and you can't beat the facilities at places like Burke Williams. Anyway, many of these therapists are strong, careful, respectful, courteous, and hard working. Many have "good hands" while some are amazingly thorough and work you over from head to toe. What is hard to find is someone that combines the physical ability, skill, and work ethic with intuition and precision. She has the capability to go deep when need be with a strength that seems to surpass the limitations you would imagine for someone of her size. As I answer questions about my problem areas, Erika shows she has both the training and the innate skill to identify and address my specific areas of concern, and when appropriate points out the muscle group and what activities may be causing the problem. She listens to my words as I communicate my perceived issues and she addresses them. Then, she "listens" to my body to find areas of concern I do not know exist or couldn't verbalize if I did. Having someone identify a spot you were unaware of and work on it in just the right way can be glorious! This combination of intuition and execution, in my view, is what separates the good from the great. Erika... is GREAT. Also, not unlike the other reviewers here, each person I have referred to her have been thrilled. The most common response I have gotten... 4 of six people I know of have used these three words. Best - Message - Ever. PS: My only complaint is that I wish she had a portable hot tub, But, I am sold on the in-home service. While I appreciate the advantages of the spa paradigm, there is nothing like having an evening "tuck in" massage where I can simply have some tea and turn in to my own bed without harshing my mellow with a commute in traffic. read more

Erika is an amazing masseuse. One of the best massages I've ever had, and I need regular work done to counteract my job as an artist hunched over a drawing tablet all day. She can be powerfully strong but also has wonderfully subtle finesse. She takes her time, gives you her complete focus, and works thoroughly and patiently. I believe a healing massage begins as soon as you are in your masseuse's presence and Erika is radiant. Her welcoming, warm energy and demeanor makes you definitely feel like you are being cared for. Some specific thoughts from our last session: Her intuitiveness is impressive. I like to guide my masseuse as far as pressure (bring it on!) but with Erika I rarely needed to speak up. She had a keen sense when to back off and when to bring it. It's immediately obvious how good her touch-response is and how aware she is of how much your muscles may be struggling. There were several times she brought me right up to my comfort limit... and then eased up right at the moment I would say something. It was quite impressive and allowed me to relax even deeper, knowing I was in good hands. Maybe the best thing I took from our session was a further understanding of my own body. I do traditional hand-drawn animation and once had a long history of back problems and carpal tunnel. I've been to physical therapists to correct my posture, have all the proper ergonomic yada yada, and now practice yoga regularly. I don't have the severe issues I used to have, but will still get the soreness and tension from overuse. I'm saying I spent some serious time trying to figure out where I needed to improve. I asked Erika to focus on my right shoulder blade, as I usually request. She did... and then continued to follow my muscle tension as it emanated from there. (This, for me, is what separates the good masseuses from the great ones. The good ones have a strong routine that covers everything... the great ones don't have a routine, but are having a new "conversation" with your body every massage session.) Erika was doing great on my back. But what I didn't know was coming was that we'd end up in my hips. Erika introduced me to some tension I was holding in my pelvic girdle that I never had the sense of. My initial thought when feeling the knots was "What the hell is that?!?" Some of them were excruciating to get worked on, but Erika coached me in breathing and her encouragement at my "letting go" was heartening. Afterwards, I felt amazing. I started to understand how much I had focused on correcting my shoulders, back, and spine, and how that may have brought some tension and pressure to my pelvic girdle. It was a revelation. And now, paying attention to my my pelvic posture is informing all of my current exercise. I expect to leave a physical therapist with this kind of info. Getting it from a massage is a pretty sweet bonus. And on top of all this knowledge and technique, Erika is the nicest, most attentive person you will meet. A sweetheart. Erika is an amazing and gifted massage therapist! I have chronic neck and back pain and I have had massage therapy for many years and seen many, many therapists. Erika is definitely a standout. I call her the knot whisperer because she finds them and gets them out. She is wonderful at mixing the therapy I need (often not relaxing at all due to my injuries) with some relaxing aspects of the massage so it is well-balanced. Erika Jensen literally gives the best massages I have ever had in my life. My husband and I have been working with her for the past couple months - he is a runner and needs lots of work on his body and I need to release stress I build up everywhere. Erica is friendly, professional, upbeat and fun to talk to. She really understands the body and how it moves, as she has been a dancer for years. Because of that, she seems to know when to push hard and when to pull back. As a result, her massages feel therapeutic and closer akin to body work, while still feeling wonderful and relaxing. First off, she is an amazing person and always makes me feel so comfortable and relaxed just being in her presence, before I even get on her table. She always asks me what we want to work on, and really listens and addresses what muscles are tight and sore. Her hands are so intuitive, I feel like she knows just how to talk to my muscles and tell them to relax. I've been meaning to post this for a long time! I saw Erika for a Prenatal Massage in my 7th month of pregnancy. I was feeling all the usual things--hip discomfort, low back pain, tightness in my upper back and shoulders, and difficulty sleeping. I wasn't sure how getting situated on the table would work since I was already feeling awkward in my body, but she explained everything and had all the necessary pillows and bolsters to get me comfortable and relaxed. I'm not surprised how quickly I was able to let go under Erika's care, as I had seen her before and have seen her since my delivery. She definitely knows what she's doing, she's so intuitive, knows all the pregnancy points to avoid, and leaves you with a general feeling of well-being. I cannot recommend Erika enough. If your having the 2nd and 3rd aches and pains you can't beat a massage from Erika in the privacy of your own home. She's the best! read more
