My mother hired Ruth Movers in March for her move from her apartment in Blaine, MN to Burnsville,MN. They took $150 deposit when she spoke to the young lady in the office and setup to be at her apartment in Blaine on May. 30th at 8:30 AM. On the 30th we waited until 9:30am and nobody had shown up or called. We tried calling multiple times and nobody answered and their voicemail box was completely full so we couldn't even leave a message. I drove out to their location on the 30th and all their trucks are parked and doors are locked and nobody answered. We have filed a complaint with the BBB but I would tell everybody to stay away from this place as they either are taking peoples money and not providing the service or they are out of business. read more

Complete lack of communication for more than six weeks!!! Ruth movers were to move my belongings back (from their storage facility to my home) on March 27. Last contact they had with me was on March 26, 2020 to confirm my move and confirmed they were an essential business. Did not show up with my stuff and have not responded to my million emails, phone calls, and social media requests. Completely unprofessional and would never recommend. Have spent endless hours contacting my insurance company, the police, the city licensing division, etc. etc. To not have the common courtesy to call me back is so unprofessional. We previously used Ruth Movers to help with our move into the new house. They were very nice on the phone and it sounded like everything should run smoothly. However, they did not show up within the time frame they provided. The workers could have moved a little faster and I had to pick up cigarette butts from the driveway after they left since they had a few smoke breaks. The movers were friendly, just slow. They are reasonably priced though compared to other moving companies so with a little improvement for the on-site job, they could be one of the better moving companies to choose from. read more

Very unhappy. Crabby management. Paid over $7,000 for full service: both pack and move (one block). Then when price went over their estimate, she blamed me for not doing enough packing before they came. Also, lied about how much I had done. When I could not find stuff they had packed, Ruth would not return my calls or email. Threw case with EXPENSIVE telescope down on the ground when I accidentally lead moving guy to wrong spot in my yard. Left HUNDREDS of items behind in my previous home. Ruth Movers helped me get my baby grand piano from South Eastern Minnesota to Detroit Lakes, MN. The pick up and loading process was quick and professional, as was the drop off and reassembly. The staff was helpful, knowledgeable, and courteous through the whole process -- both the movers and the office staff. The only issue I had was that I was told I would be called to complete payment (as I wanted to use a different payment method), but the call never came, and I was charged a significant amount more than I had been quoted. While I still paid full price, my concerns were handled quickly and professionally. If you're looking to move a piano, I highly recommend this company. read more

February 28th I moved to my new house. I had the honor of meeting, by happenstance, a couple of guys by the name of Steven and John Roslin Jr.​ We were all at a local watering hole Fabulous Ferns Bar & Grill​ . Each of us were enjoying brunch on a cold Sunday. Steven overheard my conversation with my friend discussing moving and my concern(s) from my last moves. Steven politely introduced himself and spoke of the moving company. Net net, I engaged Ruth Movers, Inc.​ and a packing crew to pack my belongings. This was my first move that I had a wonderful experience. My move was wrought with complexities, four various elevators and eventually the track back across the river to Saint Paul. I will tell you after moving many times domestically and globally, this moving experience was outstanding, courteous, helpful and unwavering with ensuring my experience was filled with ease and positivity. I just called Ruth Movers for a 2nd time. This time I went online to read their reviews and in doing so I cam across a negative review while on the phone with Bre. I asked her about that complaint and she had lots of details about this "customer". So then I went to his yelp profile and saw that he had only written negative reviews and NO POSITIVE reviews. (pretty revealing) My experience was a good one. The crew definitely knew what they were doing. Many people just want hire some muscle and pay the cheapest they can. BUYER BEWARE YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. After this move I had other movers for my office. My wife went on craigslist to hire the cheapest we could find because the move was mostly little stuff. BOY WAS THAT A MISTAKE. I will never hire movers from craigslist again unless they have pictures of their crew and vehicles/trucks/vans and an actual company name. The guys that showed up we in separate vehicles with no moving van, on insurance, no company..Just day labor...the even refused to move my computer stuff because we did not mention it in our email messages. So somewhat of a long story. Ruth Mover's helped my family move some things from my parents home to my home about a 30 mile trip. Quick easy phone call to get an estimate. They thought it would take about 2 hours and that we would get an email with an invoice. Easy. They were prompt on picking the items up and the two movers were great guys, very professional and were clearly concerned with making sure that the items were moved in such a way as to not damage anything. Sounds like a great experience thus far. However, during transit the tempered glass on the front of our stove was shattered. The two movers assured me that this would be no problem they had seen issues like this before and it was taken care of by Ruth Mover's. They told me that they called "the manager" and that we would be getting a call that afternoon or the following day to set up a repair. They also wrote down on the invoice that there was damage. That call never came. What did take place was some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. We gave them about two weeks from the date of the move before we called, busy holiday season and everything. At that time they did not have a record of the damage occurring and said they needed to investigate what had happened. Okay. Waited another week called back and similar story from a front desk employee who said she would get this information to a supervisor who would call us the following week. Okay. Get a call the following week that we never upgraded our insurance for the move and that the damage would fall under their basic insurance which only provides reimbursement up to $50. This is a $400 dollar repair on our stove. I inform the supervisor that we were never offered any additional insurance and that the mover's assured us on the day of the move that the repairs would be taken care of. She went on to tell me that the mover's, representatives of their company, were wrong and that I should have read the paperwork more carefully. Ultimately true that the paperwork does state that damages during transport are not covered. However I tend to take people by their word when I have an employee of the company telling me that the problem will be taken care of and that they got that approved. Clearly we were lied to either by the movers themselves, which I doubt, or the managers tried to sweep this under the rug after the move was completed seeing as it took a total of a month to get this "investigated" and decided that they would not be covering it. My advice avoid Ruth Mover's. read more

We hired Ruth Movers to move our home contents from a southeast to a western suburb with four months of heated storage in between. Ruth was recommended by our real estate agent and our interview with them was very positive. We knew they would be expensive but felt the extra care they would take would be worth the additional expense. We were very wrong in our assessment. After the move into storage there was a surprise charge on our credit card with no explanation. Several phone calls later revealed that this was a charge for storage that was improperly computed. An adjustment was made, but an invoice was never received. At no time was an invoice ever supplied for storage even after asking. The move to our new home was a disaster with much damage occurring either in storage or in transit . The damage consisted of broken pieces of furniture, rub marks, gouges and nicks on many pieces of furniture. The moving crew took pictures of the damage and confirmed to us that the damage had been reported. I later called the home office to follow up and was told the damage had never been reported. At that time I was told to send an itemized list of the damage along with pictures for them to "investigate" and determine reimbursement for the damage . Weeks went by with many calls and no response. These calls were made to Bridget who we later found out was an owner. Finally we discussed this matter with our real estate agent whose agency recommended Ruth's. (We have subsequently been told the agency will no longer recommend Ruth's) The agent called the owner at which time was told that we had no insurance coverage. After more unanswered phone calls we finally were able to talk with the owner. At first we were told that there was no insurance coverage. After pressing the matter the owner admitted that there was $50 coverage on each damaged piece. We intentionally did not purchase the full coverage insurance because of assurance of the care our furniture would receive both in transit and in storage. We understood that our coverage was limited. We did not expect that it would be necessary to confront the owner to get the coverage contracted for. This matter was resolved finally after many phone calls. One of the services that was included in our contract was box rental at $2.00 per box which would be reimbursed upon return of the boxes. At the time of pick up of the boxes a $75.00 pickup charge was to be deducted from the reimbursement. We were also charged $75.00 for the delivery of the boxes. We did get charged for the pickup but no reimbursement for the return of the boxes. It again took several weeks of phone calls to get the reimbursement. Our moving experience became very difficult once payment for services was made. Our credit card was charged at the same time the service was provided with no opportunity for any corrective measure prior to payment. Communication with the owner was all but impossible. The disrespectful and defensive behavior of the owner set the standard for the move. We would not recommend Ruth Movers. read more

Very nice company, great staff, and they truly make you feel as if it were your own family moving your things for you. Used them twice already. Once for a large hide a bed couch and again for my dining room and remainder of living room set. They padded and wrapped everything so nicely and didn't get not one scratch. I have used Ruth THREE times now, with excellent results each time. The first time was to move a Mason&Hamlin grand piano and gun safe out of my home in Wayzata to my new home in Mendota Heights. They did a great job of being careful of the hardwood floors and were on time. The second experience also involved moving the same two items, but this time into a storage locker (divorce) until further notice. Once again, on time, professional, and prompt. The last time was to move my piano and gun safe into my new home in Eden Prairie. There was a miscue with the pick up time and drop off time. I had taken time off work to arrange for the delivery on the same day, but due to road construction, and other factors outside of their control, they were not able to deliver on the same day. I was not charged extra for storage, or for a new delivery date, and in fact they made an extra stop at my storage locker to pick up some extra things and did not charge me for the extra service because of the previous miscue. They went the extra mile to make sure I was a happy customer. I really appreciated the extra effort they went to to make sure the piano was well protected as well as the hardwood floors in my new home. I don't normally write negative reviews but I have to be honest. They started off so nice and kind on the phone (the owner) to get your business but they estimate at a really low attractive rate knowing full well that it will cost more in the end. Paid by the hour, of course the guys take their time. They were kind and good guys but needed to move faster. I'm not paying you to take smoke breaks.They assumed 3 hours for my window so I even booked comcast to come to my new place the 2nd hour in (truck wasn't even loaded yet though) My girlfriend even helped them the whole time. I lost some earrings along the way that were really expensive and I assume they're in the bottom of a wardrobe box somewhere (they were on a hanging closet holder). I didn't even mention it because I don't think they would care. When I got slammed with a bill over $800 I felt totally taken advantage of! Is it my fault their estimate was off? I only moved the exact items I had originally stated and even LESS. Is it my fault they weren't quick? No it isn't but I still get this bill. It feels wrong and I was so shocked I called immediately. I spoke to Bridget the owner who was originally kind to me and was met with a whole new personality. She came across as uncaring, unprofessional and almost cocky. I even stated how nice she seemed the first time we spoke. I could go on and on but just use a different company that sticks to their word and doesn't mislead their customers in estimates. Yes, my stuff was moved and yes the guys were nice and I don't want to say anything negative about them. I was robbed!! I called to have a piece of furniture moved from a store in Minneapolis to my home in Edina. Details about the furniture was provided and a quote was provided. They showed up and wanted $200 more for the move. They claimed the time would be significantly more to drive from Minneapolis to Edina than originally thought. I was being held up. We settled on $100 more. I was furious. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They are not honest and have figured out how to fleece the customer when they have little choice. read more

I had terrible experience, I scheduled an appointment to move a piano, gave my check card number and was given time frame for the move. The day of a move I called the company, was told by a customer service person Deena that appointment was never maid. She was extremely rude and insisted that I never paid or made an appointment. She hung up on me. A person who sold me the piano contacted the office, my card number was found, but despite of it Deena continued to insist that I failed to make an appointment. She refused to tell me the time when movers were supposed to arrive insisting that I told her to shut up and therefor she won't provide me with information about the time, I never told her to shut up, my kids heard the whole miserable interaction. I would cancel the move but the other party needed piano moved that day and the fact that I was stuck with the company and situation empowered Deena to continue bullying me. My experience with Ruth Movers was a disaster! I would not recommend the services to anyone. I decided to go with the highest priced option, Ruth Movers, as they had a good sales pitch and promised me that they would do the best job with my move. They told me how they are experts in moving furniture and would be able to complete the job the fastest and without any trouble. It is just my Wife and I, so I didn't expect the move to be too big of a deal, but we decided we wanted to avoid the hassle and leave the moving up to the Pro's at Ruth movers. Picking Ruth turned out to be a big mistake. While setting up the move, the lady on the phone told me it would be 4-6 hours based on the detailed form I filled out for them beforehand. Their per hour price (3 guys and a truck) is higher than many of the other options but I decided to splurge and go for the "best". What I received was three slow, inexperience movers that took forever to get the job done. One guy told me he just started the week before, the other guy mentioned how his job is to boss around the other guys and didn't do much work, it was a disaster. The three man crew would only do any moving when they were all together in a group, two guys lift, one watches. As hours went by with so little to show for it, I decided I had to help out and ended up working my butt off with the crew to get it done. I also had to call in some friends and family to move some stuff in our own cars and trailer, but the crew still 10 hours to finish the job. Between the breaks, doing things like carrying in one pillow at a time, and taking their time on every task, the project took the whole day. I asked the lead on the crew if there was anything unusual about my move that was making it take twice as long as the estimate and the guy said "No, they just always tell people 4-6 hours and it usually takes double". What a way to do business, get me to hire them by giving me one price, and then charging me an extra $1500! I was not ready for that extra cost on top of buying a new home but who would be. After the move, I contacted the company on Monday with my concerns and received a message back that day from Bre. She told me she was sorry about the trouble and that the Owner would review the info and get back to me. They even told me it was a "High Priority" matter and they would be getting into contact with me soon. I was happy to hear that they were concerned and hoped they would do something to help out with the trouble I experienced. That was June 29th, I wrote again the next week after nobody contacted me and was told that they were talking to the crew about the move and would be contacting me shortly. Then another week went by with no response. I contacted them again on July 13th and no response again. Apparently they don't care about their customers, it's all about getting the jobs booked with them. Underquote, over promise, UNDER deliver and never call you back seems to be the way they do business. Needless to say, I am very disappointed in the service I received from Ruth Movers. To charge me double the quoted price for a horrible, stressful move day with inexperienced / slow movers, and then didn't even have the curtesy to contact me about the issues as promised. I would not do business with a company like this again. Beware of this company and go with one of the many alternatives out there. read more

We hired Ruth's to move an upright piano from one residence to another. They had to go down a flight of stairs and take off a door. They were fast, efficient and very careful. When they arrived at the delivery location, I had just discovered the biggest spider I have ever seen in my life (a wolf spider--look it up) in the room where the piano was going. Had a move with them this summer. The guys moving we nice. However they put a dent in the ceiling above the stairs when moving a sofa to the basement. I tried following up a couple of times to get them to pay for the repair, but never heard anything back. It was rather disappointing. read more

My very unpleasant experience with Ruth Movers I hired Ruth movers, who claim to have 60 years of safe moving experience, to move my gun safe from Maplewood, Mn to Hayward, WI. The came to get my safe in Maplewood and wanted to take the door off of our 3 hinge safe. My wife informed them that the door was not removed when it was brought in to our home. They took it off anyway. When they arrived in Hayward they could not get the door back on. They claimed it only needed heavy grease - which they had none of. So I drove one of them to the hardware. Even with the grease they were unable to put the door back on. They called John at Safe and Knife in Rogers, MN where I bought my safe asking his advice on how to get it back on. He told them they should not have removed it and he did not know how to get it back on. The paint on my safe was perfect, now it is all chipped up. Ruth Movers claimed it was a factory defect. They called Ed the representative for Superior Safe. Ed informed them that if they remove the door on a three hinge safe the warranty is void. Ed called me and was very polite but of course the fault is not with Superior. Prior to Ruth movers ruining my safe, the door could be swung open or closed with my little finger. Does not sound like a defective product does it. At that point Ruth Movers "plan" was to leave my safe broken, in my home, with the door off, where it could fall on one of us or my grandkids. I spoke with Bridget over the phone and told them that was unacceptable. They ended up hauling away the safe. I have called many times and spoken with Bridget, all I ever get are excuses and stalling tactics. Not even a claim number for an insurance filing. Apparently the hope is to delay 90 days to prevent or make it more difficult to file a claim. I have received promises from Bridget on more than one occasion with dates she promised to call me on, to keep me informed. She has never called. Several weeks have gone by. My safe cost $4000+. I hired professional safe movers assuming they knew what they were doing. That was my mistake. Don't hire Ruth Movers as they don't know how to move a large heavy 3 hinged safe and if, through their own incompetence, they ruin your item, they are not professional enough to stand behind their mistake and make it right. Turns out they are bad at moving safes and bad at standing behind their work, but they are good at one thing... not keeping their word. Their extra insurance coverages are vague, especially the highest level which is not even described. I did not buy extra insurance - perhaps just as well, as, if that coverage is like the rest of their work... I have never even received an apology. If they ever make this right I will update my review. Update, This whole story began in mid March. In mid June I was finally paid for my safe. I was reimbursed 100% of the cost of my safe. So the good news is Ruth Movers submitted a claim for my safe and I was fully reimbursed. Now you know the whole story. I would NOT use Ruth Movers again and would NOT recommend this vendor to anyone. Compared to my other 3 moves with professional movers, Ruth Movers were slow (almost near to being lazy). In addition to being slow, they left a ton of things in my old residence and I has to make a number of trips to move them myself. The things they left behind were big items that were very visible e.g. a TV in the garage, a standing light on the staircase landing, and a shelf in my closet. I also hired them to pack my stuff and they left many drawers and cabinets unpacked. While packing my stuff, they looked at them and discussed them with their fellow coworkers about the items (almost intruding privacy). I don't write review often and when I read other people's review, I always take it with a pinch of salt. However after this experience with Ruth Movers, I am definitely trusting online review and by writing this review, I hope others would think twice about hiring Ruth Movers (even though they are priced competitively) and avoid the terrible inconvenience they created. read more

BEWARE - If Ruth Movers damages your property they will not reimburse you for damages and they will not replace it. Read everything they send you carefully. They broke my glass coffee table top, the estimate for replacement is $800. They damaged my bed frame and they are denying it. They are not returning any of my phone calls or my emails. I have not signed off on the move because of these unresolved issues and they debited my account $463.50 which I did not authorize. They keep your credit/debit card information on file. My bank is working on getting these charges reversed because what they did was illegal. I will never ever ever use this company again. My rating is really a '0'. read more
