I thought that the queso and chips were fantastic! However I was so hungry that I scoffed down the mini taco in about 30 seconds flat. The tortilla apparently was authentic Mexican but I wasn't crazy about it. The good: $2.50 for a taco and the guacamole and cheese dip were delicious! They also have Jarritos! Yum read more

Stumbled at the door step of this restaurant when i took the wrong bus and got lost. I asked the cashier what she recommended. She told me what the customers' favorite was (fried chicken taco), and her favorites. She was really helpful and friendly. I decided to get the fried chicken taco, roasted pork taco, fish taco, and a side of chips with guac dip. As I grabbed my food, the cashier made sure I grabbed some hot sauce. She recommend their habanero sauce. The fried chicken taco and roasted pork taco was really good. Compacted with a good amount of flavor. I wasn't feeling the fish taco. It lacked flavor, and had an unattractive fish aroma. The hot sauce brought a good heat to the tacos. The chips and guac dip was okay, nothing special. Overall, Rusty Tacos is a good place to eat at. Great environment, along with great service. The food may vary based on what you prefer. It might have been destiny that I stumbled upon here. read more

I don't usually write reviews but this was too good not to. We are in Minneapolis for our Big Ten baseball season opener with IU. Most of the city seems like a ghost town with the impending trial starting Monday for the George Floyd murder. We found the Rusty Taco our first day here. I have to eat gluten free and I love Mexican food! The Rusty Taco was a bright spot! Tony knew all about gluten, I could have all of the tacos (with slight modifications- not the fried ones and put them on corn tortillas) and they have a dedicated fryer for their chips! The food was fresh and they are so friendly! I highly recommend anyone looking for great tacos - go to the Rusty Taco! I don't have photos because I ate them too fast:) we had the Texican, the grilled fish taco and the spicy fried chicken (except mine was grilled to be gluten free), the queso and the guacamole- all were awesome! read more

Odd experience. Personnel did not know where I could get the unsweetened iced tea on the menu that I ordered and paid for. Turns out there wasn't any. Can't believe I'm the first person to order their unsweetened iced tea on a hot summer day. Then, also after meal was ordered and paid for, informed that a Mexican taco shop has no black beans for their black bean tacos--So had to settle for grilled cauliflower tacos. Tacos had cilantro sprinkled all over them, which we had asked to be left off. Chicken found its way into my cauliflower taco. Food bland and mediocre at best and not worth the price. read more

Stopped by for a quick lunch. It's a great spot for fast and casual meal. My entire meal came out within minutes. The quality of food here is pretty average. Tacos were decent, especially if you choose a flavor to your liking -- the fried chicken one was amazing! Crunchy and saucy to complement the soft shell. However, the chips were pretty stale. The guac had virtually no taste (definitely needed more seasoning, even if it was plain black pepper). You definitely need 3 tacos at least to be filled up but luckily the prices here are great. Super cheap (~ $2.75 or so). The atmosphere was extremely casual. You order at the counter and seat yourself, your meal came in one single tray, and you pick up after yourself. Beer and margs are available at a decent price too. read more

I love R Taco! Of all the places to enjoy a decent marg and a plate of tacos, this is the place to go! The prices are not that bad and service is usually spot on. I would liken it as a good Quick Service restaurant (like Noodles or Potbelly) but....TACOS. The variety of tacos is immense and satisfying and you can order your marg frozen or on ice. I kept the plastic cup my Marg came in and it now is a very good water glass when I need one. Thanks for being there for me, Rusty, whenever I needed a delicious taco and a margarita. read more

Rusty Taco - Margs at happy hour - Tex-Mex Near Me - Minneapolis, Minnesota

The food is what you expect -- affordable, quality tacos with good flavor. The service at this location is awful, though. The last three times I've been here, they have either messed up my order, ignored me as I stood at the counter, or both. It's like having to interact with customers is an inconvenience for them, and they have blamed their mixups on the customer at every chance, having watched other interactions from my table. read more

Maybe one day I'll try the food. Went there once with an order waited over an hour and my ticket was not in the system. Asked for a refund. They took our order number and they would call. They didn't call, we called them. Been 2 weeks with no call back or refund. I even helped the manager out so he didn't wreck someone else's order too! read more

I have been to this place a few times for some yummy tacos. While it is in northeast, they do have a parking lot that is free to customers which is a nice perk. I have always gone to this location during lunch time and the line to order can be a bit lengthy for sure. They have a excellent assortment of tacos that you can order so you can really make your meal perfect for whatever you are craving that day. The downside on this location is that the wait for your food is longer than other locations. Yes, they have a line, but they don't seem to have a good process for getting orders out in a reasonable amount of time. Every time I go, I wait for a good 20 mins to get my food which seems a bit strange. read more

I'm from out of town and order 20 tacos. Came home after 30 mins to find that there was no sauce that came with the tacos. So I called to let them know they didn't give me any sauces - our tacos were eaten dry for the most part. Pretty much they told me too bad - you should have asked for it which made me soo disappointed as a 1st time customer. No one offered when we picked up and the manager said pretty much the same - too bad. Just bad service all around. read more

As a student and taco-lover, this is one of my favorite places to grab a taco (or three). Tacos range from ~$2-4 which makes for an affordable breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I love the wide variety of tacos BUT the fried chicken taco is my personal favorite (probably because it's one of the least healthy options, ha ha). I like most of the tacos I've tried here but the Tex mex one was pretty bad-- I didn't even finish it, the meat was so under seasoned and the taco was just generally underwhelming. Overall, great casual place to grab some affordable tacos, especially if you're going to mix and match a few! Yum! read more

Rusty Taco - Four tacos and chips & salsa for about $15! - Tex-Mex Near Me - Minneapolis, Minnesota

Went here with 3 others. We all got different tacos, and didn't have a complaint about any. The line was a little long and slow, but to me that generally just shows that a ton of people like the food. I would have gotten a margarita ($3) had it been happy hour, however didn't really feel like I needed one for $5. Chips and salsa were good but honestly would have gotten another taco to try instead of getting chips and salsa. Also, they have an allergen menu online which is HUGE for my bf who is allergic to milk. (Thank you restaurants that have options for dairy free people and an allergen menu so he can figure out what to order instead of having to ask!!) Price point in my opinion was good and will will definitely be back to try more and a marg at happy hour! read more

Probably the worst tacos I've ever had, and I'm white, so I've had many contenders for that title in my lifetime.

I have no idea why there are any negative reviews. The concept and food were so good, I am inquiring about franchise opportunities. Our tacos, brisket, fried chicken etc were all scrumptious. Service was helpful and fun. Sure, the place's decor has "low overhead design, but that keeps prices low. What's not to like? Rusty Taco would be amazing as a food truck, festival stand, and a restaurant near a university campus or sports arena. I, a self professed gourmet and overt restaurant snob, loved Rusty Taco. read more

Rusty Taco is a 2 or 3-star affair, at best. Upon walking in, the first thing I noticed was how insanely bright the lights are. Blindingly-white lights. Pair this with the concrete/steel-everywhere look they are going for, and it becomes difficult to "settle in" here. Perhaps that's their goal: quick service, quick meal, out the door. That would work for me, under one condition: you get a hearty meal at an affordable price. But Rusty does not deliver on that ideal. We hit up RT on a Friday night, seeking out $2 fish tacos. I ordered 3 tacos, thinking that might satisfy my hunger. Wrong. The tacos are small, and there was very little fish on my taco. I would much rather spend $7 on a massive burrito from El Taco Riendo, or heck, even Chipotle. The atmosphere felt flat, even on a Friday night. The employees looked bored, and there was not a single smile to be found...not from the employees, and not from the other patrons in the restaurant. My two friends were more positive about the experience than me, so I might try ordering some of their other taco options, which looked more filling. All in all, I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to hit Rusty Taco. If you're passing through Northeast and want a really quick bite, it's a decent option. read more

Worst tacos I have had, I wanted to like this place, I really did. They look like they are good, but they lack everything you want in a taco. No flavor, tried three kinds, steak, pork, and ground beef and all were not seasoned and bland, kinda like a college cafe throwing taco night with little effort. Salsa are okay, nothing special but not bad. They do have several choices, but for me I wouldn't want to try this place again. read more

We have been here a few times when visiting friends in Plymouth MN. Rustys used to be a very clean place w great food. This visit the place was filthy. Even had mouse feces right by the napkins and silverware. Then the food had been previously cooked and served to us. My husbands ordered just the ground beef tacos and were too salty to eat. I ordered One Baja shrimp and Two fried chicken originals. Let start with everything was cold. No one was making any meals or cooking. That did not occurs to us until we had our food remade because it was so bad. The sad this was it was not any better made fresh. Not sure what happened to all of the things that's used to come on the tacos. Now they are dry and just not good. Not worth your stopping read more

Three tacos and a pop for $10? I'll be back! I had a grilled fish taco ($3) and brisket taco ($2.50) at the just-opened Rusty Taco on Hennepin/Central in Northeast on July 22. The St. Paul taco spot and food truck favorite set up shop in Minneapolis in the former location of Look + See. The brisket was a bit fatty, but the fish taco was so good that I ordered another one. My friend had a couple of the namesake Rusty Tacos -- a spicy pork with pineapple that sounded a bit hot for my tongue -- and he liked them. On a Sunday evening, the place served a steady stream of customers, and I didn't see anyone wait for more than a couple minutes. The staff members seem like they're still learning their way around the place. I'll cut them a bit of slack (unlike Mr. Negative Billy D., the first reviewer, who ripped them on the fourth day of business), and I am confident they'll master the menu soon enough. It can't be that hard, right? Parking availability will make or break this place, and with the former Wilde Roast next door still vacant, it's not a problem yet. The lot has a dozen or so spots. But with little neighborhood foot traffic, this place will rely on customers making it a destination. So far, that hasn't hurt nearby Brasa. Sign on the door says they're open until 10 p.m. Too bad, because a nice taco could make a great late-night snack. The place is clean, the staff is friendly and it had ample seating. Give it a try. read more

I am a sucker for Mexican food. I love tacos. I love corn tortillas. I love guac. I love fried chicken and shrimp too. So, I like this place a lot. It's not authentic Mexican nor is it a formal restaurant. It's a "get food and go" place. The food hits the spot. Somewhat light (depending on what you order) and all parts delicious. I've been to the St. Paul location and the NE location. I prefer the NE location (more room, better service, easier parking), but Rusty Taco is always good. The food truck also delivers a punch at lunch time on the streets or at food festivals. I'm a sucker for the fried chicken taco, the fried shrimp taco, and the guac. Those three are my go-tos here. So good. It's not a typical dining experience. This is informal, so I would compare to a Chipotle like dining experience. But tastier?? :) read more

You've got hunger pangs and devouring a taco (like right now) is all you can seem to fixate on. And you want those tacos quick. But minus the gastrointestinal distress that frequently accompanies places like Taco Bell. This is when you go to Rusty Taco. The tacos are good, not great. Tasty, but not authentic. You can't really go wrong with a roasted pork taco and some chips and guacamole. The prices are not bad, around $2 or so a taco. And they serve beer. I agree with another reviewer who mentioned Rusty Taco should be open later; I think this would be a great place to grab a late-night snack, especially if you've got a serious case of the drunken munchies. read more

Rusty Taco - Roasted pork, fried chicken and brisket tacos - Tex-Mex Near Me - Minneapolis, Minnesota

What is it about ordering something a la carte? Why does it make it taste so much better? R Taco knows how to do good, cheap and interesting tacos the right away. Their straight forward menu has a variety of meats including shrimp, fish, ground beef, vegetarian, chorizo, breakfast and chicken tacos. They are between $2-$4 per taco. In my opinion, the best thing about R Taco is their guacamole. Hands down the best for the price and the warm tortilla chips make this a must-order. $5 margaritas also make this place a real winner. One of my favorite parts about this area is restaurants like these are filled with all different people. There are couples here on dates, a family with their two small children, college kids, old married couples and friends just catching up over drinks. It makes the atmosphere so special. My go-to is the fish tacos (grilled), a frozen margarita and guacamole, what do you order? read more

Rusty Taco - Is there a sweeter sight than a platter full of tacos? - Tex-Mex Near Me - Minneapolis, Minnesota

I like this place, but it could be better. Prices and options are good. However, with the options I had (Brisket Taco, Beef Taco) they could certainly season the meat a bit more so that the tacos are a lot more flavorful. The chips and guac were also okay...not the best, but not the worst. I was surprised by the $5.50 Corona that my friend bought....with how inexpensive the food was I just wasn't expecting such a pricey beer. Anyway, would I go back yes...but at least I know what to expect. read more

My meal here was a solid 3 stars, nothing more and nothing less. I had never actually been to Rusty Taco before so I didn't really have expectations, I just wanted some good food after a day of apartment hunting. I ordered the Fish Taco and Brisket Taco with a side of Guac and Chips. The brisket was not great, kind of dry and must not have been cut correctly cause it was grainy and chewy. The Fish was better, had a good deal of Cilantro which might bother some people but all good with me. The tortillas were also OK, they were kind of dry and cracking apart as eating progressed, maybe could have used two in order to hold it all together. The queso fresco was kind of abundant and powdery on the tacos, if you took a breath as you approached the taco with your mouth you might sneeze. The Guac was the best part of the meal, then again it is kind of hard to mess up. I did like the window seating facing Hennepin and the fact that there was Pacifico on tap made it even better, but as I read this again I think my review is more of a 2 star variety. Oh well... read more

Good overall experience for a quick taco lunch. The menu is straightforward- order tacos by number, try a few different kinds! The guacamole is tasty too. We ordered the Brisket Taco (good but very salty), a couple fried Fish Tacos (my favorite one, Chipotle crema made this a perfect combo!), the Rusty Taco (yay for pineapple), and the Fried Chicken Taco (the one bite I had was crispy and delicous). Each taco comes in its own separate paper tray with a teeny tiny lime wedge- just enough to squeeze over your taco. Prices aren't terrible but for 3 tacos around $3 for each, I still needed a side of chips and guacamole to really fill me up. This place is in a busy intersection but they do have a small parking lot. read more

Decided to grab some tacos after eating donuts at Glam Dolls. I got the margarita & a fish taco and it came with lots of red cabbage - I don't really like anything loaded with too much red cabbage. Although the fish taco was really fresh, the margarita was waaaay too sweet! Kind of unbearably sweet? The guac was okay but let's talk about that red hot sauce. That hot sauce is fire! Super creamy garlic-y spicy creepy hot sauce. It was bomb.com! Anyways, this place is alright. I wouldn't go out of my way for these tacos unless I was already in the neighborhood. As most people know, this fast casual restaurant is one that grew out of a very popular and successful food truck. This spot in Nordeast serves up flavorful tacos at rock bottom prices. The menu has a wide variety of options (order by number please) all around $3 each. Today I had the fried chicken taco (crispy with a nice spice) and one of the shredded beef brisket tacos. I also got a side order of their crispy chips and salsa and a drink and the total was under $10-a great deal and PLENTY of food for lunch. Order at the counter then step to the side and wait. They will call your name once your food is ready (which isn't very long). There is a decent amount of seating or you can get your tacos to go. Free off street parking (maybe fitting 10 cars) if you are lucky (or ahead of the lunch rush). I arrived at 11:40 and was lucky today. Food is tasty and fresh and there are three different house made salsas to add even more flavor to suit your individual tastes. DRFINITELY RECOMMENDED- a great spot for an inexpensive meal. read more

The service was friendly and professional, but the food was not so well. My partner order a couple of tacos, a steak fajita, and I got a #1 pico de gallo bowl. When the food came out, it was visually unappealing, but we wanted to still try it out.. and it was all bad. Out of all the food we ordered, the only well prepared thing was the steak fajita.
