I was really excited when I saw this place was coming to NE. After my third time visiting, I have to say, that I'm overall, a little disappointed. The first time I came they were out of nearly everything on their menu, but it was one of their first days opened, so I cut them some slack. The tacos I ordered were not ones I'd usually choose, and they lacked flavor. The second and third times didn't make me feel better about the place. I don't know what it is. The tacos are just a little bland. I had the steak fajita taco and the BBQ pork taco most recently. The steak was really dry. The BBQ pork was okay. I'm not really fan of the slaw. Unlike others, though, I kind of like the atmosphere. Very industrial, but I think they pull it off. Anyways, I think this is my last attempt with this place. Bummed, but there are just so many better options in NE. Sorry, Rusty Taco. :/ read more

Oh my, oh my. I was pedaling through around 7pm after a long day at work. Rusty Taco has appeared in too many recent conversations to pass it up. I was solo and the night was unbelievably beautiful, so I grabbed a fish taco (grilled) and a black bean taco and headed to a park. I was glad to have "gluten friendly" options (perhaps the absence of "free" acknowledges cross contamination potential? I didn't ask, but this may be a red flag for those with celiac type concerns). At any rate, these little soft corn shelled tacos nestled in a hand stamped brown bag (reminiscent of field trip day in elementary school) were packed with pure culinary heaven. Tasty, spicy, and each wrapped up with its own wedge of lime. I like lime so much that the tangy little green guy may be why I didn't hesitate on that fifth star. My meal was perfectly seasoned, the ingredients were clearly fresh and real (the bright purple cabbage on my fish taco was crunchy and delicious), and the hot sauce held some real heat (not Minnesota heat). Did I mention that this place is very affordable? Also their staff were friendly and fast. I look forward to many happy returns. This might be the place where I drag colleagues for lunch meetings for a long while. read more

The location and ambiance are great, but the actual tacos are meh. I had a breakfast taco that had zero flavor - it was basically what I could make in my own kitchen if I didn't use any seasoning. I feel bad saying this because the employees are super nice and the operation is well run. I just didn't like the food that much. read more

Rusty Taco - Rusty Taco truck at Mpls Auto Show. - Tex-Mex Near Me - Minneapolis, Minnesota

I approached the Rusty Taco with low expectations. First the name sounds like a euphemism for a sex act that I would be ashamed of myself for engaging in, and second, when it comes to Mexican food I have an immediate bias towards burritos over tacos. A burrito is bigger, more filling, usually contains beans of the refried variety, and is a much larger salsa vessel than a taco. I will continue this by stating that I was not disappointed in my experience at the Rusty Taco. I ordered two tacos, and nachos that I split. My Tacos, though small, were really delicious, and very reasonably priced. The Shrimp Taco was easily my favorite of the two (the other taco I ordered was the Fried Chicken taco). I paired the tacos and nachos with an assortment of different delicious salsas that were provided. The nachos were pretty basic, but had a nice add on feature at .50 for each additional item. I spruced up my nachos with a very tasty queso dip and black beans! The look of the restaurant was very modern and clean, with a clever hipsterish motif. The service was really friendly, fast, and informative. Nothing better than a person who makes eye contact when speaking to you! My only complaint, which seems to echo through a few other reviews, is that if you want authentic tasting Mexican food this place is definitely not your stop. The Rusty Taco provides a good, reasonably priced meal in a cool environment, but lacks the belly busting experience of a "Taco Riendo". With that being said, if you are looking for a nice place to get quick, cheap, good food I would recommend a stop into The Rusty Taco. read more

Very tasty. Good prices. But sadly they served food in single use black plastic. Can't come back til that's not the case

Great tacos and a nice variety of hot sauces. Inexpensive, too. The service was friendly and unbelievably fast (about 3 minutes) although in fairness it was probably passed the evening rush). I will be back! read more

One of worst taco I have had in years ... Me and my husband went for lunch yesterday and wanted to have some hot food in this cold weather .... Ordered 3 different tacos Shrimp, fish and chicken ... None of the tacos tasted good and lacked flavor ... It was like these tacos where served for us right out Of the fridge.... Would not go back :((( read more

Wow. Cheap. Fast. Delicious. I usually get the nachos with black beans, queso and chorizo. The chorizo is so good. Better than almost any Mexican restaurant I've been to. The fish tacos are fantastic. And I never eat fish. I don't drink but they'll make you margaritas or the Negra Modelo you crave. When you're done instead of smoking your after meal cig... You can walk 15 feet to Smokeless Smoking to get your non-carcinogenic nicotine fix. The Rusty Taco is great for a quick Mexican food fix that's worth every tiny penny. read more

This is truly one of the latest gems in a city with an embarrassment of culinary riches. If you're in the mood for a good, authentic SoCal-style taco and a cold beer (or margarita!), this is where you want to go. I really, really appreciate the fact that they use corn tortillas, and the balance of slaw, protein and sauce is always right on the money. My favorites on the menu are fried chicken, shrimp and fried fish tacos. They are best with a moderate squirt of their habanero sauce and washed down with the beer of your choosing. read more

Bad bad bad. Being a pescatarian, I tried the shrimp taco and the fish taco. Both were cold and with each bite I couldn't tell the difference between the oily 'fried' soggy coating and the fish. It was all equally a terrible texture and very dry. The guacamole had little flavor and I'm convinced it was all processed ingredients without any real avocados in it. The chips and beer were good! Chips and salsa were brought to me while just hanging out watching the olympics, which was nice. I will not be back to fill up on chips and beer again, however. EL TACO RIENDO FOREVER! read more

Quick, easy, pretty good tacos. I've had the fish taco, bbq brisket, and fried chicken. All were pretty good, a little on the bland side. The tacos are pretty cheap 2.50 -3. You can also order chips with salsa, queso, or guacamole for $3. The salsa choices are pretty good, with my favorite being the habanero salsa. It's has some nice heat. I also like how the side opens garage style to feel like you have some outdoor seating. Overall I don't think the tacos are really that cheap. 3 tacos, chips and guac for $12 I should feel a little more full. For that reason the point I gave for salsa is lost. read more

My first experience with Rusty Taco was out of one of the food trucks in downtown Minneapolis, and after stopping there on my breaks from work regularly for a few weeks, the oddity of the name wore down and I didn't notice. That said, when I learned they were opening up a location a few blocks from my apartment, I was excited, and The Boyfriend was thrilled. (I believe his words were, "Date night, honey? On me!" with a waggle of the eyebrows and everything). I've had every taco on the menu and they are all pretty good. I wouldn't say they are AMAZING, and I definitely have to utilize their rack of sauces (that come in different flavors and spice levels) for some extra flavor, but you can't beat it for the prize. If I am starving, I get three tacos and a margarita on the rocks for about $11. The atmosphere is nothing special. Sports games playing, metal tables, boring lighting, but it's a relaxing place to kick back for awhile. Service is blah the times but I've been there, but in their defense, it was close to closing time and they were still very fast and efficient. If you're in the neighborhood and want to grab some quick and tasty grub, Rusty Taco is definitely worth a stop. read more

They're always slow, get your order wrong, and their cashiers are usually rude. They're food is good if you don't mind the service.

We ordered from them from a hotel in the cities as our child is a regular patient at children's hospital. We order do not even get 1/2 our order (and cold) called no answer called another location and complained they said we would get a call. Didn't so called location 3 days later made excuses said they would refund 1 week later nothing. Stay away from this place will, will be complaining to my credit card company to get charges reversed. Since they wouldn't. Thanks for taking money from Children's hospital patients read more

Rusty Taco - Tex-Mex Near Me - Minneapolis, Minnesota

Rusty Taco is good, not great. The prices are way cheap for what you get, the tacos are fun and different, but everything is a little one-note. I had been to the food truck before and was hoping the tacos were a little better, but they were the same. I wish they had some more fun with sauces and salsas. You'd expect a place that's straight from Texas to have some super Mexican influenced food, but a lot of the tacos lacked flavor. My two favorite tacos were probably the fried chicken and fish. It's also fast, which is nice when you're hungry. Guac and queso were both delicious (but when aren't they?). Chips are really good, too. Get these as a side to your tacos. My biggest problem with this place? They close at 10. This would be such a great place to go post-Northeast bar hopping, so why are they closing so early? Cheap prices and a space that seems suited for the drunchies... this would be my jam (er... guac?) if I was tipsy. I'd go back but if I was in the area I would probably rather go to Brasa or Punch for a cheap lunch. If they made a few changes, though... this place would be prime. read more

Only received 3 of 7 items from our door dash delivery so I drove over to rusty taco (defeats the purpose of using a delivery service). They told me I had to take it up with door dash and wouldn't do anything to credit me back (even just for the items that were not received). We're done with door dash and we'll stick to the taco truck from now on. read more

Good fresh tacos. Pretty conservative, nothing too "crazy" but that's actually a good thing. Service is pretty quick and the place looks clean. I had 4 different tacos and they were all good. I love fish tacos but here they were only "ok" (but still good). the Picadillo taco is very good. There are lots of Gluten free (GF) options and some vegan options too. read more

Rusty Taco - Tacos and chips and dip - Tex-Mex Near Me - Minneapolis, Minnesota

Our first experience here was perfect. Today was beyond terrible. Every single staff person looked miserable and were not at all friendly. We waited much longer than expected for our food to be ready and when our chips and salsa weren't in the bag, the staff seemed very inconvenienced to get it for us and rudely asked what salsa we wanted then. We drove barely 2 minutes to a nearby brewery... Open up our tacos, they aren't labeled as they have been in the past, and every single one is cold. Completely cold after an almost 20 minute wait. I could barely eat the meat in fear of how long that it's been sitting at an unsafe temperature. I will never come back and will recommend others to avoid this location at least. Regretting not waiting the extra 30 minutes for Brasa instead. read more

Rusty .... Taco ... ok. My wife and I went here with few expectations. The tacos aren't big, but they are good. They are modestly priced at around $2-3. I especially liked the pineapple on their signature taco. They were serving Fultons on tap. Beer and tacos, whats not to love? read more

Ordering at Rusty is pretty simple. The menu is made up of twelve varieties of tacos, priced at either $2.50 or $3 a piece. For sides, your options are chips with salsa or pico ($2) or chips with guacamole or queso ($3). They also offer tap, bottle, or canned beers ($4-$5) and margaritas ($5). Each of us ordered one or two tacos, a side, and a beer. Atmosphere Bright and fun. Casual counter service makes it an easy hang for a group. Service The girl at the register was quick to suggest her favorites, and the food came out lightning fast. Presentation Cute and easy. All of the tacos were presented attractively, open for you to personalize with a squirt of lime or hot sauce before rolling and eating. Taste The fresh ingredients make for tasty tacos. Value for Dollars At just around $10 for a filling meal and a beer, this is a great value! read more

Only have had one time of bad service. Great place. Fun atmosphere. People are friendly.

Rusty Taco NEVER disappoints, unless you don't like cilantro..then you might have some issues! It's a casual sit-down and take-out spot for modern tacos. My personal favorites are the Baja Shrimp taco, the Rusty Taco, the Fried Chicken Taco, and the BBQ Brisket Taco. The meats are all well seasoned and cooked to perfection, and their pineapple salsa in the Rusty Taco is not to be missed. They are very good at creating their own sauces and salsas. Everything is extremely flavorful and their "crazy-hot" salsa definitely has a habanero kick, though I'd kick it up a bit more if I were them. However, I do feel their quality has declined slightly in the last couple years, maybe I've been going at bad times. Other than that, it's a very solid choice in Northeast. read more

I used to love it here, but maybe that was because it was convenient and new. Unfortunately, now it seems to be worn and neglected. The food was still fine, the fish taco tasted a bit fishy. The staff is very friendly, but when they mixed up my order and gave it to another table, they just picked it up from that table and brought it over to me and said here's your meal. I had no assurance the other people didn't touch my food. But I was in a hurry and couldn't do anything about it but yet I still think it's not the way to handle the situation. Overall, it's fast, easy, and decent tacos but they're on the verge of somebody being able to steal away their business. read more

While the tacos here are decent, they are typically under-staffed, so plan to wait 30 minutes for your food. Also, check your order before you leave--a verbal repeat of the order will garner a 'yes', even if they short you a taco and mix up your order. (like my order). This place is a victim of its own success. As it has gotten more popular, it's gone down hill. Management is also unresponsive, so once you walk out the door with a messed up order, there is no recourse. read more

Youch. What a bad experience? I have never seen more disorganization at a restaurant in my life. I felt like I was on an episode of celebrity apprentice and non-restauranteurs were trying to run a restaurant. My "fast food"to go lunch experience took 45 minutes as I stood in front and the line cooks kept asking "what did you order?" and "we think we lost your order." I got the food back and it was decent, but did not come close to my expectations (their menu looked amazing and I was very excited to try the food). Sorry, but I will not repeat this experience. read more

Rusty's had delicious tacos, including vegetarian options, but we were really impressed by their *taco labeling*. We ordered maybe 20 tacos to-go of all types and expected a mash-pit of chaos. Instead each taco was wrapped in foil and labeled by flavor, easily decipherable! Amazing! read more

Slow, disorganized, and mediocre. That's Rusty Taco NE. They haven't solved a very basic operations management problem that Chipotle has mastered. Yes, there's more variety on the menu, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to streamline your taco making process so people don't wait 20 minutes for tacos that are - let's be honest - nothing special. I also witnessed some very questionable practices behind the counter, including moving fillings from one taco to another to correct a mistake in making an order. This place is a mess and needs a massive overhaul in management and operational practices. read more

I had the fried chicken taco and the signature rusty taco with chips and salsa. Surprisingly, I was not a fan of the rusty taco. The heap of pineapple chunks overpowered everything else. Great tacos, really fresh guac... good prices! What more do you want? I liked the (grilled) fish tacos quite a lot, black bean and chicken are also faves of ours. Nice selection of taco-worthy beers too. NE location was playing really loud music when I was there, didn't bother me, but I noticed a couple next to me were having to shout at one another... Very average food, but affordable and they do have many different types of tacos to try which is a plus.
