Let me start off by saying these are the most pristine, high-end athletic fields I've ever seen at…read morea community park. Even the bleachers were fancy. How very Southlake! If I were rating this based on the ball fields, it would more than likely be five stars. But, being a mom of kids not yet in sports, I came for the playground, and that is how I'll rate the park. It's an okay playground. A little small. It was big enough for my 5 kids because they were the only ones there, but I imagine on a day where sports are going on at the fields, the playground would quickly become uncomfortably crowded. My kids loved the woodsy theme - log slides, large mushrooms to climb on, doors in trees - and it was fun to watch their imaginations run wild. It's a great start for pretend play. Unfortunately, the playground has NO SHADE. No shade over the play structure, no shade over the benches. With the Texas sun and a metal slide, this is not a good combination! I'm no arborist, so I couldn't tell you if the small trees around the perimeter of the playground will one day be huge shade trees or not, but I'd venture to guess my kids will be long grown before that happens. There is a shaded seating area outside of the playground where parents of older kids could sit, but it's a little too far away for most to feel comfortable leaving a toddler, I would think. The bathrooms are clean and nicer than what the typical park has to offer. All in all, North Park doesn't stand out against the other playgrounds in the area. Bicentennial Park is just around the corner and is a much better destination for kids to burn energy and moms to catch a break.

The Bob Jones Nature Center is a great place to visit if you have small children. We have gone to…read moremany events hosted here by the city of Southlake and everyone has been wonderful! They always have a ton of activities set up for kids and their prices are reasonable as they ticket by vehicle. The activities are of high quality and often educational. I highly recommend you look into events here! They also have a few great hiking trails and a butterfly garden.

Even in the winter, when the trees are bare and all is brown, this is a beautiful spot to walk. I…read morecan't wait to return in the Spring. I'm pretty terrible at reading trail maps, but I believe we took the Bluebird trail and followed the signs to Grapevine Lake. The trail leads you right down to the water, where there is a nice little shore to throw rocks and splash around in. Someone even hung a tree swing a few hundred feet up from the lake. So fun! I can't speak for all the trails, but this particular trail was not entirely stroller friendly. I have a pretty nice jogger and a strong man to push it, so we did ok on the trail to Grapevine Lake, but the trail is very narrow in parts and most strollers will be too wide. You need one that is pretty much built for off-roading. The nature center might have a bathroom inside, but all I saw was a porta potty behind a privacy wall. Now is the time to get out and enjoy some outdoor exercise. The weather is crisp and nature is calling. Make your way to Bob Jones Nature Center and take advantage of the beautiful trails and gorgeous lake views.

The dinosaurs themselves were pretty neat. They moved and made noises. It would be interesting to…read morefind out how scientists have decided what the dinos sounded like. In any case, there were probably about 15 dinosaurs in total. Visitors follow a path at their own pace to view each dinosaur. Touching them is prohibited, but you can get pretty much as close as you want to observe and photograph. There is also a small dig area and a staff member walking around with a baby dino the kids can pet. Our first loop through prehistoric park took about 15 minutes. We splashed and swam a bit in the lake and then returned for another quick loop through the dinosaur trail before heading home. Overall, it's a pleasant activity and definitely a kid-pleaser. My children ages 1-9 all enjoyed it. The problem is the cost. $29 is just WAYYYY too high for what this is. Part of me thinks the city of Grapevine should just continue to charge the regular entrance fee into Meadowmere Park and use the dinosaur exhibit as a way to increase traffic into the park during the off-season. We for sure will not be returning to the park until the exhibit is over and the entrance fee returns to a more reasonable rate. If your kid loves dinosaurs and you've never been here, by all means, go, but I'd probably chalk this up to a once in a lifetime activity.

We had a blast! Upon entrance each kid receives a guide where they collect stamps around the park…read more There are 5 stations/stamps total. Our boys loved the trail and the dig site. There's an area with carnival type dinosaur games (ring toss, feed the Dino, etc.). Aside from the Dino attractions, the park itself is beautiful. Definitely worth the price of entry!
